Maman - Nomad - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"A quick story: the first time we ever went into Maman’s Soho location for coffee and a cookie, someone was crouching at eye-level with the cookies on display. This gesture said: “I see you, cookie, and you will be mine.” It was striking and kind of sexy. While you can’t mimic this approach in Maman’s bakery right now, you certainly should try it once their cookies arrive at your apartment. They also have DIY cookie kits available if you want to bake at home (or send someone a present). We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"COVID-19 update: Open for pickup, delivery, and outdoor dining. If you've visited Marché Maman, or one of the other Maman cafés, you're familiar with founders Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall's talent for creating utterly chic, French-inspired spaces you want to live in. Their latest outpost, Maman Nomad, checks all these boxes. The first uptown presence for the duo, the gorgeous café and restaurant serve up decadent lunch and brunch options, including healthy homemade soups and quiches, plus their famous nutty chocolate chip cookies. Go for a relaxed brunch or afternoon coffee–or, in a pinch, grab something to go. COVID-19 disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations. "

I visited Maman recently and had a mixed experience. The pastries and baked goods were absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the visit. However, the service was disappointing. I asked at the counter if I could simply take a seat, and the staff member told me yes and that someone would come to take my order. After 15 minutes, no one showed up, so I had to call a server over myself. On top of that, there were food leftovers from the previous guest on my table for the same 15 minutes. No one apologized, acknowledged it, or made any effort to clean it sooner. The server who eventually helped me seemed unfriendly, annoyed, and clearly not in the mood to be serving customers. Great food, but the service definitely needs improvement.

Went to Maman for a quick lunch. The place was busy!!! I lined up and finally got my turn to order but got to wait for my seat. Service was good, i loved my salmon salad and drip coffee. Atmosphere was so so, because of how busy it was, i felt like I need to finish my food extra fast. Anyway, if you’re in the area please check this place out :)

Google
We went there attracted by the good reviews. It was very early in the morning and the place wasn’t busy at all. You expect to find a good environment, still not saturated by the chaos of the city. Instead, we were treated with indifference and like if we were bothering the girl that took our order. I say “good morning” and added something nice… she completely ignored me. She was starring at me like she was mad. It was very awkward and it almost made me want to leave. We got 2 matcha lattes to go: expensive and 99% latte. Not good at all. Atmosphere is nice inside, but it was ruined by the service. The only good thing was the lady that handed the drinks to us. She was nice and smiled at least. All the rest very overrated.

Google
The worst Maman experience ever. I ordered a chicken wrap, and the chicken was literally fridge-cold. When I told my waiter, he said, ‘It’s a wrap,’ as if that explained it. Yes, I know it’s a wrap — that doesn’t mean the chicken should be ice-cold. I asked if this is how they normally serve it, and instead of answering, he just grabbed it and said they could warm it up (which they did… with the lettuce still inside). The best part? When I tried to clarify, another waiter came over and told me to calm down. If you enjoy cold chicken, cooked lettuce, and being yelled at, this is the place to go.

I visited this location years ago and decided to stop by again — still such a cute spot! I only tried their signature summer drink this time (papaya matcha lemonade) and loved it. Super refreshing, beautifully presented, but a bit pricey at $10. If you’re into unique, well-made drinks, it’s worth it. They also have plenty of more affordable coffee options (americano, latte, etc.) and pastries that all looked fresh. The interior is cozy and beautifully designed, though seating is limited. Luckily we were able to grab a table and enjoy our drinks there. Overall, a really charming café in Midtown and a nice break in the middle of the city.

Google
You can't go wrong with their delicious croissants but the barista has a thing or 2 to learn about preparing a simple good hot latte. Learn how to froth the milk right and the milk should not be boiling hot.

In love with this place, creative drinks first time I hear about. Loved the white and blue cups and mugs soooo beautiful 🩵🤍 I would come again if I visit NY Highly recommended👍🏻👍🏻

Google
I have the privilege of going to Maman almost every day to pick up coffee orders — and it’s not just me who loves it, my clients rave about their coffee too. Every time I’m there, I’m greeted with warm smiles and even warmer coffee. The team here is genuinely great, and the service is always on point. Even when the line is out the door, they stay fast, efficient, and never lose quality. One of my favorite spots for sure.

Yelp
I've heard of this cafe from so many folks and while searching for a spot for a coffee and a table to get a little work done, Yelp sent me a sign to finally give them a try. First of all, the inside is CUTE. Love that it looks like a little French cafe with adorable tables, sweet little teacups and porcelain plates. It's cozy as heck. There were no free tables so I took my chai latte and headed out to one of the outside tables in their parklet area. They do not offer wifi but my hotspot did the trick for the day. But any fellow remote workers should keep that in mind. My chai latte was delicious, steaming hot and perfect on the chilly day. I know this spot is known for their incredible pastries, and I was for sure eyeing some of them, so that is a try for another day. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
TLDR; quaint cafe with picturesque interior but crowded seating. Great if you're grabbing something to go. Met a friend for breakfast at 9 on a Friday and this place was pretty crowded! All of the seats were taken when we arrived and we waited in line for roughly 10 minutes to order. The food was mostly pastries with limited protein options. I was in an adventurous mood and ordered the blueberry goat cheese scone. It was fine but I probably wouldn't order it again. The blueberry flavor wasn't particularly prominent.

Yelp
Maman will always be one of my cafe go-tos. I always come to their locations if I want a solid beverage. I recently ordered an Iced Matcha Latte which was a beautiful vibrant green color. The only con was that the matcha was a bit clumpy and wasn't whisked thoroughly before combining the drink, but the taste was still good. I've had their Lattes in the past and had a consistently better experience, as an alternative option. I also got their Passionfruit Lemon Poppyseed loaf and it was a bit too moist and very sweet. Thankfully, my unsweetened matcha latte balanced the loaf. I think some items are a hit, while others are a tad of a miss, depending on what you get. Overall, the ambiance and friendly staff make up for it. Regardless of my review, I'll continue to come to Maman for a nice midday pick-me-up!

Yelp
Stopped in randomly for a grab and go lunch post workout. When I entered, I noticed that there were white brights with tree branches lined with white flowers. Really cute and cosy for brunch, but also looked a little cramped. I headed over to the takeout line and ended up spending nearly $20 for the Tawni Salad. I really liked the spicy chilli sauce (which wasn't spicy but flavorful), but overall the salad didn't do it for me. it was definitely fulfilling and the portion was so large that I'm able to split it into 3 servings (mainly due to the farro). The pumpkin is a nice touch and overall might have been better if it was a warm salad. I removed all of the cheese because it was overwhelming.

Yelp
Super cute decor and total brunch vibes. The wait without a reservation on a Sunday for brunch was about 40 minutes. Breakfast sandwich was delicious and the salad was no frills - just greens with dressing. It was good but I feel the meal itself wasn't too filling. Their chocolate chip cookie was the perfect finale to the meal. I'm a fan but just pricier for what you get.
google avatar

Yelp
This chain does quick breakfast perfectly. I got the fresh OJ and the papa's breakfast bowl which was super filling but also light. Great use of fresh ingredients and herbs to make breakfast delicious and healthy

Yelp
Yuuuuuh. Just what I needed. Light. Simple. Delicious. Service was quick and found seating no problem!

Yelp
Came here for a cup of coffee the other day and this was a decent find. They have such a large selection of drinks - definitely check out their seasonal specialty Just a heads up. The staff would not give you a table before 3 pm on a weekend day unless you are order a full meal. We came at 2:50 and the tables were half empty. The hostess told us we would have to take the coffee to go. It was only after we said we'll just find another coffee shop, did they decide to make an "exception for us." Although, I'm not sure how much you can even count this as an exception. By the time we were actually seated, it was already 2:55. If they would have just given us the table instead of making a whole deal about ordering a full meal, I would have given Maman a 5 star review. It was just such a hassle that it really decreased the rating two full stars for me. IG: QueenOfAdventureNYC

Yelp
Super cute cafe. The cashier was super patient when I asked for the sunny side eggs to be egg whites and scrambled. The croissant was amazing and the cookies are to die for. Oprah's favorite ! Ambience is cute and cafe is not too loud. The dishes are a nice touch. My friend got a egg and avocado sandwich except they left off the avo ? There was a small line (maybe 10 min) around 9:45 am Note : they are a laptop free establishment

Yelp
This spot (there are a few in the city) was recommended to me a few times and so finally walked into one. Find a table, but order at the counter whether you're dining in or not. Great vibe, but it's a cozy space so you'll make friends with your neighbors or at least overhear their entire conversation. This is a work free spot so if you bring your laptop it's gotta stay in your bag. Food is delicious! I definitely recommend the tartine au saumon, it was delicious!! Reasonably priced and solid service. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
French vibe, great service, best avocado toast. Walked in, short line (good sign), Monday at 11:00am, a table opened up and in we slid! See above and pic. for the rest....

Yelp
4 stars because it's laptop free. Very quaint Maman cafe. The arched foliage immediately gasps you making you feel you're walking into a pretty botanic garden. The cup display & wallpaper & floral luminescence is beautiful. The staff seemed a bit introverted/shy. I decided to try the elderflower drink as I'd never seen it & the beverage case drew my attention with how bright and we'll positioned it was at the door. It was worth the try, though I hated it had 17g added sugar in it for an organic product. Go, enjoy!

Yelp
I love everything about Maman (branding, food, interiors, dishware) and am so happy for their continued success. This one star is JUST for the handful of times I've had their famous Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookies with what seems like expired nuts. You can immediately taste the rancidness and get a terrible aftertaste that takes a while to go away. I hope they stop making cookies with these bad nuts.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing breakfast and great seasonal coffees! French country aesthetic, with friendly service. Felt a bit rushed but that's okay.
google avatar

Cristina D.

Yelp
Every Maman location is aesthetically fabulous with lovely decor, ambiance and dishware inside and out! Their coffee is delicious and expertly textured milk is always a win! Their pastries are always yummy and there are always a HUGE assortment to choose from if you get there early (which I absolutely recommend because they get busy quickly). The service is also wonderful with polite, fast and attentive waitstaff at every location! So why the 3 star review? I left off two stars because the food itself is nothing to write home about. The tartine au salmon was just okay, and the green Shakshuka was more of a green sautéed veggie dish than a traditional Shakshuka. Again--not bad...just okay. That said: If I am rating the coffee, the pastries, the service, and the ambiance? 5 stars. If I am rating the brunch or lunch menu? Solid 3. I highly recommend you drop by for a visit! Just do yourself a favor and fill up on their pastries--that's where you'll be blown away!
google avatar

Yianni A.

Yelp
Pricey but worth it! The croissant egg sandwich was rich with flavor and quite filling. Coffee was exceptional and even though I didn't met the pastries there was quite an assortment for one to choose from. Recommend take a seat and enjoy the NYC tourist experience and movement!

Magda Z.

Yelp
The food here is sooooo tasty and FRESH. The bread is on another level super soft and crispy on the outside! The spot itself has a very cutesy vibe to it without being too try hard. Could get a little crowded but the line moves fast. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a breakfast/brunch spot to grab a quick bite or sit down.

Yelp
1/1 Ambience; 1/2 Food + Beverages; 1/1 Service; 1/1 Value Despite being a chain cafe, Maman has great standards across all of their locations, Flatiron/NoMad being no different. The ambiance has a rustic French vibe with lots of seating indoors and outdoors for when the weather is warm. The service is quick, friendly, and the lines move fast in here. My friend and I dropped in for a quick coffee and pastry: the maple latte (seasonal), the turmeric latte (seasonal), and the Paris to NY croissant. The maple latte was super sweet (even sweeter as a hot than as an iced), and my friend couldn't really tolerate the amount of sugar. I had the turmeric latte, and this was actually my second time trying it at Maman because I had one last fall and fell in love with it! I normally really dislike turmeric lattes, but the spicy balance and sweetness of the drink at Maman makes it a wonderful fall drink. We split the Paris to NY croissant and while I loved it, my friend found the chocolate too dense for hr liking. We were expecting Maman's chocolate chip cookie, but it was much more of a dense chocolate filling with crispy layers of pastry around it. Every item was so rich and decadent that despite sharing the pastries on an empty stomach, we were full for the next couple hours. All things considered, the prices felt pretty justified for the quality and portions of the food!

Yelp
stylish cafe / bakery located in the flatiron. the interior has a warm friendly vibe--artistic prints on the walls...and a good amount of tables squeezed into the area beyond the coffee/register area. stopped here to grab a coffee to go. coffee was solidly okayish imo. the baked goods look good and there are savory menu items from soups and salad to sandwiches and tartines. service is pleasant. this Maman location is pretty busy during the weekdays during the daytime...definitely would stop here again to try something to eat as the options sound good.
google avatar

Kann T.

Yelp
The chai latte is good but def sweeter than what I got outside. The service is great. They were nice to answer questions I have.
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
Super busy location that just underwent some renovations. I think they have less seating now, but the setup makes more sense. I don't feel cramped. Very friendly, patient person at the counter let me peruse before ordering. I'll say this was the best skim flat white I've ever had. It had the creaminess of a "real" flat white. I got the vanilla, oatmeal cookie, which had the lowest calorie count of the pastries (410 calories). It was a teensy bit dry, but it was tasty. Adorable dish ware.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
I ordered the chocolate chip cookie and the hot chocolate but got the hot chocolate iced haha. So I guess I really god the iced chocolate. I came here briefly to catch up with a friend before going to our facial and the cookie was so good! Apparently it's one of Oprah's favorite things. And the iced chocolate hit the spot. I appreciate that they were able to make it iced for me. Great service, great vibes

Nuria S.

Yelp
The food is always very tasty and they were quick to serve. I ordered a grilled cheese with the soup and that took longer. I think that the soup with The grilled cheese would have been enough as I didn't know the grilled cheese was so big. The quiche was tasty.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
Came again to try their matcha and it was super yummy! Very creamy and just slightly sweet without being too overbearing or bitter.
google avatar

Wendy L.

Yelp
This Maman location in the center of the Flatiron district is a great spot for coffee, snacks or refreshments at any time of the day. On a soggy Saturday late afternoon / early evening, I met up with friends for coffee and pastries. By that time, there were slim pickings left but we still managed to find some delicious goodies. The cafe is surprisingly big, and there are a number of tables inside (and a few outside when the weather permits).
google avatar

Yanina L.

Yelp
One of my favorite MAMAN locations Love coming here for breakfast. My new season favorite is Strawberry Rhubarb Croissant
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
Ambiance 5/5 Very cute brunch place and it is spacious. Perfect for a date Service 5/5 Even though this is a restaurant/cafe, and it has a lot of seatings, but it's actually a walk in self service cafe, which means you don't have to wait for someone to serve you to get a table. It's honestly the best experience you can have in New York considering how small most places are. Because of this reason, this place has now become a favorite brunch spot Food: Big portions of food and delicious coffee. Would come here again
google avatar

Anne B.

Yelp
Maman has plenty of locations across Manhattan, making it a convenient stop regardless of where you are in the city. I came for brunch on a Saturday around noon and had to wait 15 mins for a table. The ambiance is a nice vibe with plenty of greenery, it's a cute place to catch up with a friend. I've tried some of the coffee and pastries before and wanted to venture into something savory for this visit. There's a ratatouille dish that's only available on the weekends so I ordered that and my friend opted for the chicken sandwich. The ratatouille itself was warm and hearty, but the eggs on top of it were just a bit overcooked to be runny. My friend also enjoyed her sandwich. I also tried the sesame tahini chocolate cookie which I really enjoyed! The sesame flavor came through nicely and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The cookie happened to be vegan, and the bakery case displayed a few other enticing vegan pastry options. I wish the main menu itself had a few more vegan options, there wasn't much outside of avocado toast or salad. The service really varies, they tend to be busy so I wouldn't come expecting too much in terms of that. Nice stop for a more casual brunch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
google avatar

Charlotte M.

Yelp
Really delicious pastries and coffee, crowded but worth the wait , super personable staff, the decor is adorable. Nothing to not like about this little neighborhood cafe.
google avatar

Khanh-Chau M.

Yelp
Solid place for brunch with their croque monsieur and lemonade. Croque monsieur was greasy but still tasty! A bit overwhelming for me but I think I just needed to get a sandwich less cheesy! Cute place and staff was friendly.
google avatar

Sandra P.

Yelp
Great food, coffee and ambiance and friendly staff. It can get crowded, but there is ample seating, including a few tables outside.
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
I go here regularly. It's a good place to sit and talk. And the food is a cut above the usual coffee house fare.
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast with my friend who was out of town and from LA. He's trendy, so wouldn't meet me in midtown. I had the smashed avocado tartine with fried egg which I thought looked good but wasn't quite as delicious as it looked. The line was long but moved at an ok pace. Seems like a good local spot
google avatar

Shawn C.

Yelp
Croissant - Good Almond Croissant - Really good Vanilla Mango Croissant Roll - Cold, the crust doesn't taste crispy like a fresh croissant, and I am there in the morning. Various kinds of Croissant Cubes - Same issue as the above, crust taste kinda stale usually. Banana Walnut Bread - Fine, but the chocolate chips was not really necessary. Pain Au Chocolate - Fine Pistachio Chocolate Croissant - The chocolate doesn't really go well with the pistachio flavor in my opinion.

Kate O.

Yelp
Beautiful decor , Great Vibe Beautiful pastries, look forward to trying them. Will definitely return soon!
google avatar

Fennie W.

Yelp
Food was okay, nothing spectacular. Got the: - Maman's breakfast sandwich: Homemade bourbon bacon jam, avocado & oven roasted tomatoes topped with a fried egg on a cornmeal focaccia bun (Gluten free available) - Papa's breakfast bowl: Roasted potatoes, bourbon bacon jam, a sunny egg & sliced avocado served with chipotle aioli (Gluten free) Got the lavender latte and loved the latte art. Service was okay too. Asked the barista for recommendations and he looked at me like I had 2 heads so I went on my reliable Yelp app to decide what to get. Cute place, great for socializing. Can get a little loud though.
google avatar

Helik S.

Yelp
Cozy, lit up and welcoming little café in the flatiron area. We stopped early before a visit to the National Museum of Mathematics, just around the corner by Madison park. The interior is very warm, plenty of plants that create intimate sections. Espresso drinks perfectly prepared and served in proper China cups. Pastries were fresh and crisp, all served quickly and with a genuine smile - all joined to make a fantastic start of a day in midtown. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Maman but it fell short. The ambiance is very nice, inviting atmosphere. The food was not so great. The avocado toast had a small amount of avocado spread (didn't seem like fresh avocado) on stale bread. The toppings didn't go well either. We also got a pastry since the avocado toast portion was so small and we were still hungry. It was alright but didn't taste fresh.
google avatar

Lois P.

Yelp
Absolutely love the aesthetic of the cafe. There are multiple locations spread out through the city and all of them have beautiful interior inside. The flatiron location does get quite busy so if you're planning to sit down and dine I recommend coming early. As for the food all their dishes are very reasonably price in my opinion and honestly pretty affordable considering city prices. I usually alternate between the Katie sandwich and salmon tartine whenever I order from here! All the food and pastries are delish you can't go wrong
google avatar

Heidi B.

Yelp
A must-do when in the city! Food is always fresh and delicious- the pastries and lattes are incredible. Highly recommend the chocolate pistachio croissant if you can snag one before they are sold out!!
google avatar

Ross H.

Yelp
Delicious pastries and very solid cold brew. I've been to a few locations throughout Manhattan.
google avatar

Kassandra G.

Yelp
Only giving a star because the staff was amazing. I got two papa breakfast meals, I don't know why my potatoes were not even warm or hot. Tasted like they were days old. I'm very disappointed. We ordered hot chocolate and a latte both were at room temperature. If the food is not at the right temperature, I'm concerned how they store their food here not coming back.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Met up our friend here since 1) we were in this area and 2) grabbing coffee was a must in our travel itinerary. The shop is decked out pretty nice. All of the tables were occupied when we strolled in, but there were additional tables (hidden) in the back corner of the shop. The staff said to order at the register when we're ready. Since the register was literallyyy next to our table, I asked the worker if she could take our order when she was at the register. She looked and even sounded super irritated and said "you order up here!". Didn't think it made a difference whether or not I stay seated as I placed our order, since my seat was literally next to the register. As my friends and I were socializing, we noticed that the worker dropped a stack of UNWRAPPED (to-go) paper cups on the ground. She then picked it back up, and placed next to the rest of the UNWRAPPED paper cups that were resting on a vacant booth where the customers were jusssssst sitting. Definitely glad I didn't get my coffee to-go at that point, but that also made me wonder whether or not my cup was even clean.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Vanilla latte was just ok. I would've tried a few pastries, but decided against it to see how the coffee was. The interior is really really cute and the staff are nice. It looks a little crammed in there, but it seems like folks were enjoying their food.
google avatar

Juliya G.

Yelp
You guys. I wish I had a better picture, but these treats didn't last long once the box was opened! I got the pistachio chocolate croissant, plain croissant, and the nutty chocolate chip cookie. The croissants were so flaky and soft on the inside. The cookie could be a meal all on its own because of the generous portions of macadamia nuts, almonds, and walnuts in it. This cookie and coffee I'm the morning and you're set til lunch! I didn't stay so can't say how the service is.
google avatar

Aya E.

Yelp
Ordered: Lavender Hot Chocolate (~$6) Almond Croissant (~$5) Aya's take: Such a cute coffee shop/bakery! I mean this aesthetic is literally one of my favorites. I'm a sucker for lavender flavor so naturally, my eyes gravitated to that part of the menu and I knew I had to get the Lavender Hot Chocolate. It was silky, creamy, and rich. A great, warm, non-caffeine drink to go for. The Almond Croissant was a bit disappointing; a bit stale, not fresh, and lacked overall flavor. It would have been much better if they could/would heat it up (not sure if that is an option). One of the better cafes in NYC; I recommend checking it out!
google avatar

Cara E.

Yelp
I have saved several Maman locations on Yelp because they all look so beautiful and have great reviews. My friend and I were in town a couple of weeks ago and luckily needed a coffee stop while we were nearby to this location. I ordered a mocha and it was perfect! I really wanted to try the baked goods that looked delicious, but we were going to dinner right after. I love all of the greenery and florals that they use to decorate!
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
So this rating depends on when you go and how you want your food. The croissants were delicious, but we came for a weekend brunch and the staff were completely overwhelmed. Service was slow and staff kept delivering the wrong things to different tables. At one point one of the servers just gave us a chocolate chip cookie because they didn't know where it was supposed to go (not complaining). But yeah so great take out or just be ready to sit for a while if you wish to dine in.

Michelle G.

Yelp
I went to this place today, on a Sunday. It was pretty busy. But, the outside seating is first come, first served. The food was average. I had the omelet and avocado tartine. However, the pastries and coffee were delicious! It's very cute inside.
