Mamasons - Review - London - The Infatuation

"- £6.50 If you think that that ice cream-stuffed pastries need a time and a place, then you’re wrong. A rainy Sunday was the setting the first time we tried a bilog (a hot milk bun filled with ice-cream) from Mamasons - a Filipino dessert shop in Chinatown - and it was absolutely perfect. We went for Milo (yes, the chocolate powder) but there are plenty of flavours, including ube, and queso. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
Amazing small filipino desert heaven that we found in Chinatown. I always love ube flavour so this place is a must go place to me. You need to order it through station by card and you put your name and they will shout your name out once the your order is ready. We ordered classic Halo Halo with Ube ice cream and it was amazing!! Highly recommended place.

Google
We visited Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream in Chinatown, London, and it was such a fun and unique treat! 🌈🍦 If you’re looking for something different, you must try the Bilog with Ube ice cream—warm, toasted pandesal filled with their signature creamy purple yam ice cream. It’s the perfect mix of hot and cold, sweet and buttery. Absolutely delicious! 💜🔥🍞 The staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even nicer. Just note—there aren’t many seats, so it’s more of a grab-and-go or quick bite kind of place. If you’re in Chinatown and love discovering new desserts, Mamasons is a must-visit! 🍠✨

Google
Delicious Halo-halo! Please go here if you are into dessert as you will be spoilt for choice. Great for children of primary age as it would be a good experience for them to test or try their selection of desserts.

Google
This place is full of deliciousness. Wish we could have tried more! The flan on top of the Halo Halo shaved ice dessert was an expected delight and the whole thing was super tasty. The classic Pandesal ice cream sandwich was great and the Ube Brownie quite a different texture and taste to a 'normal brownie' but insanely chewy and gooey when warmed up and the scoop of ice-cream topped it off perfectly. Highly recommend. Would go back weekly if I could.

Google
Got the bilog with ube ice cream which was delicious but the halo halo was disappointing. The description on their menu says it contains “shaved ice” but that is not accurate. It contains ice chunks which made the experience of eating the dessert very unpleasant. I’m being picky now but the menu also mentions “Oreo crumbs”. To me this looks like Oreo dust. I’m sad because I came here for the halo halo and was excited to eat it. I also love the Philippines and Filipino people. Will have to find another halo halo spot. This one was worth a try but did not meet the mark!

Google
This was so different to anything I’ve tried before, me and my partner got this to try in Chinatown London and we both really enjoyed it. There was a slight queue but worth the wait! definitely recommend especially if you want to try something new🤝🏼

Google
The Queso Bilog was a spiritual experience🧘🏻‍♀️ it’s 1M/10 for us. Someone clapped so hard, one passed out for a few seconds, and another person kept doing the otso otso(youtube it if you dont know) coz it tasted so immaculate😮‍💨👌🏼 I kid you not we saw someone fly into the restaurant😂 my guess is they taste the food from outside. This dessert doesn’t just slap, it uppercuts you into flavour of heaven🙌🏼 LET’S GO PHILIPPINES!!! 🇵🇭

Google
Very accessible and easy to find. Located in tourist area and lots of shops around. Nice place to hang out with friends and family. A go to place if you missed home. Ube and buko pandan ice cream is very good.

Yelp
Arguably top 3 if not one of the best ube ice cream I've tried in my life. No contest about that. The place is a bit small and the lines can be long during peak hours but it is so worth the wait and slight hassle. The warm matcha brownie topped with ube ice cream was phenomenal.

Yelp
Food: Ube coffee: Good textural balance of cream and coffee. Despite the vibrant purple hue, the ube flavor was lacking. Not sweet on its own, so consider adding sugar. 2/5 Halo Halo [not pictured]: the soft creamy ice cream and jelly assortments compliments well with the crunchy cornflakes and wafer straw. The beloved jackfruit delivers a comforting southeast Asian refreshment along with the shaved ice (my viet self and mom can attest). 5/5 Service: Convenient kiosk to order. They call you up when items are ready. Ambiance: it's a small establishment, so the tables can get packed quickly. Nevertheless, it's lively and it's within Chinatown, giving a convenience of having this dessert right after some dumplings!

Yelp
Food tastes great! Service staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, ambiance the cutest thing so welcoming and seats were comfy. Highly recommend and refreshing desserts!!

Yelp
Filipino Halo halo or ube ice cream are just a few favorites from locals here! Friendly vibe and cute seating inside! Associate was very knowledgeable of their selections and gave recommendations. Huge Servings so better to share or go small

Yelp
Went for Dessert Food - 5/5. Bilog was soft and pillowy, yet maintained its shape to hold the ice cream. The ube ice cream was creamy with strong flavors of ube and was not too sweet. The milo ice cream tasted just like the drink version, except in a frozen form with a creamier consistency. Queso had the savory flavors of cheese with a slight salty kick that balanced out the sweetness of the ice cream. The cone had a nice crunch and mildly sweet flavor. Service - 4/5. They are very busy with a consistent line yet the service was fast and courteous. Value - 5/5. The bilog is priced at £7.50 and the ice creams are between £3.8-7.5, depending on size. The black cone adds an extra £1.00. The desserts truly capture the Filipino flavor profile and their portions are solid. Parking - N/A

Yelp
Bilog was nothing special. Definitely not worth the 7 pounds IMHO. Mildly sweet so that part is good.

Yelp
It's located down a busy Chinatown alley. The area seems to be quite chaotic as the stores are small and the number of visitors is quite large. When we found the shop, there appeared to be a rather unorganized line in front. We soon realized it was just people milling about. The line did start at the door but we soon discovered that you can order from one of the 4 electronic pads on the counter. Once you place your order, it's rather a short wait for the desserts. We arrived about an hour before closing and the item I wanted - buko pie - was sold out. We opted for ice cream instead. We also ordered the Calamansi juice. Fortunately, we were able to grab a table infuse and enjoy our desserts. My favorite was the black buko. My husband liked the Calamansi (sorbet). The Calamansi drink was more tart than I expected. They started turning away customers about 10 minutes prior to closing. They had a lot to clean up. Unfortunately, the group of locals sitting next to us didn't bother to throw away their trash and left it to the workers to clean up after them. This was the only group that did so during our time sitting inside. Thanks to everyone else for cleaning up after themselves! Enjoy!

Yelp
We stopped by to try some dessert. This spot is located in the Chinatown area. I only opted to try one of their drinks. I went for the black buko milkshake. I chose to get this with oat milk. The milkshake tasted good and sweet. It was a nice pick me up after walking around a lot. Will definitely have to come back and try out their bilog.

Yelp
Mamasons was just okay to me. Nothing special or spectacular about it. And not really worth waiting in line for. They are usually very busy and there's limited space to enjoy the treat inside. I had the Ube Bilog and Halo Halo. I recommend just ordering the ice cream here. Or skipping it entirely if you're on holiday/vacation.

Yelp
Mamasons is located in London's Chinatown area. It is a Filipino dessert spot that offers 6 different flavors to choose from, along with different dessert options. We decided to try their halo halo with ube ice cream, black buko bilog, and an ube milkshake. Ordering can be done via ordering kiosks, they have 3 available to use. It probably took about 5-10 minutes for our desserts to be ready, altogether. Tbh, Mamasons was a bit disappointing. The ube halo halo I had was a bit bland and the flavors did not mesh well together. Kind of tasted like oatmeal. It was unfortunate though because I really do enjoy halo halos usually and this did not do it for me. The black buko bilog also was nothing memorable. Flavors could use some improvement. The ube smoothie/milkshake was all right. Again, the ube did not have much of a taste to it and tasted like plain vanilla. I believe London does not have much for Filipino food or desserts so having Mamasons is a great addition to its Chinatown. Mamasons brought a cool, new concept and new desserts to this area but still could benefit from perhaps a bit of tweaking to their ice cream flavors.

Yelp
I stopped by Mamasons for an afternoon pick-me-up. There were many enticing options on the menu, but I decided to get the one that I see most often splashed across social media, the ube bilog. This is an ice cream sandwich featuring bright purple ube ice cream stuffed inside a soft and sweet milk bun and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. Honestly, it was so much better than I expected! The ice cream itself was fantastic, not too sweet and utterly creamy. The milk bun was soft inside yet firm enough to keep its structure. The browned exterior of the bun gave it a nice sweetness as well. Although I'd be happy to sample other menu items, I'm not sure I could sway myself from getting another ube bilog on a future visit. It checked all the boxes for me! SO GOOD!
google avatar

Yelp
Passed by to try the Halo Halo and Ube and Queso dirty cream! It's definitely a fusion more so than the traditional Filipino dirty ice cream and Halo Halo. But still tasty and delicious. We enjoyed the Halo Halo most! Yum!
google avatar

Vika S.

Yelp
So so so good! We tried ube, black buko, queso and lychee ice creams in buns. I personally liked ube and black buko the most. Lychee ice cream (more of a sorbet texture) was refreshing, but I would eat it on its own, not in a bun. Queso was very interesting - it definitely tasted like cheese, while also being sweet, but I will probably not get it again.
google avatar

Briana N.

Yelp
Such a cute spot located inside of Chinatown! And super popular, you can expect to have to wait in line but it goes by pretty quickly. We got the ube bilog which was so delicious! The outside was still hot and crispy, which made the ice cream a lot easier to bite into. However, it was so messy. They have a lot of other dessert options that I need to go back and try!

Yelp
As soon as I saw this place listed on some "best desserts in Chinatown London" list, I knew I had to have it. Being Filipino, it seemed only right. The place seems to specialize in "dirty ice cream" and I have no idea what that is. So anyway, I ordered the ube bilog, which was ube ice cream inside pan de sal (a sweet roll), and it tasted just the way I hoped it would with a bonus--it didn't fall apart! Pan de Sal can be overly flaky sometimes so this really was a surprise upon finishing it. If you find yourself looking for something sweet at Chinatown in London -- definitely had to Mamason's. You can even order through just the kiosk if you don't wanna talk to anybody in this quaint spot.

Yelp
I was exploring Chinatown in London and saw an Instagram post earlier about Mamasons' ube hot cocoa. Very interesting concept so I gave it a try. Everything was purple/ube and I couldn't tell there was cocoa at all but tasted good. It was a nice warm drink when it was chilly and rainy outside. Good service and very busy (Sunday night).

Yelp
Multiple YouTubers recommended Mamasons, so my family and I were excited to try out this popular Filipino dessert place. We came close to closing time, so thankfully we were still able to place an order. We got 1 calamansi bilog and 1 ube bilog. The calamansi bilog, unfortunately, was way too tart for our taste. The pandesal portion of the bilog was only ok, and we would've been fine with just ordering the ube ice cream alone. We did like how potent the ube flavor in the ice cream was. While we love finding hip Filipino spots around the world and love supporting Filipino businesses, we likely won't return.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Let me be clear...if you don't try the ube bilog it's safe to say you weren't at the top of your class. My God! This was, literally, my first taste of ube ever and...NAILED it! It is the most magnificent "ice cream sandwich" you will ever have. Actually, it's the best one anyone will ever have...anywhere. Three order monitors are set at the entrance and the service was VERY fast. I don't think I was inside for more than 3 minutes. Then I stood outside making yummy noises and getting curious looks. This and Chinatown Bakery are two musts here in...errr...Chinatown. I'm going back tomorrow for one more before I head back to the States - I refuse to leave the UK without it.
google avatar

Janet L.

Yelp
The ube ice cream tastes on point. The ube brownie's flavor was dominated by the white chocolate chips. No decaf coffee.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
A traditional Filipino dessert spot located in Chinatown. I love the liveliness, decor and friendly staff! Got the Ube Bilog which is a milk bun filled with ice cream- think ice cream sandwich but with a fluffy warm outside. There are several flavors to pick from- ube was delicious!

Yelp
If you're in London and looking for a sweet treat, Mamasons is a must. I confess: I went here twice in the same week. The first time was so, so good (you always remember your first), I had to get it again as a treat to myself on Father's Day (I was in London on business). Although the names of the menu items might be intimidating, you actually use tablets in the restaurant to place your order, which makes the process very easy. The first time I went, on a Wednesday evening before a show, I ordered the bilog (Mamason's signature brioche ice cream sandwich) with the queso (salted cheesecake) ice cream. When I tell you that that first bite was life-changing...I could almost cry at the thought of never experiencing that first taste again. Lol. The bun was warm, chewy, and fluffy and the ice cream was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. Truth be told, my second experience was so lackluster, if it had been my first experience, I might not have gone again. The issue was two-fold: first, and I think most importantly, the brioche bun was stale. It wasn't nearly ask fluffy and chewy. Secondly, I ordered the lavender-colored ice cream flavor, the one you see in all the internet photos of the bilog. It's vanilla-esque, which is a flavor I can typically get down with but, I gotta say, it wasn't nearly as good as the queso flavor. It was, as I realize is often the case with vanilla, basic. The first issue I'll chalk up to going on the wrong day at the wrong time and the second issue is a matter of personal preference. Given my first experience, and the overwhelmingly positive reviews this place gets, I'm gonna guess that my second experience was an outlier. You absolutely must go here!

Yelp
If you need a quick Filipino sweets fix, this is the place to be. Right in the heart of China Town's sugar alley is where you'll find this gem. Menu is limited to top filipino drinks, deserts and bakes. We ordered halo halo ( nothing special about it really) ube and black buko bilog (pandesal with ube and coconut and charcoal ice cream inside). I like that the pandesal is thin and has a bit of a crust which makes the bread light enough to eat with ice cream. The crunch and a hint of salt from the crust is an extra punch. Very limited space inside and hardly enough chairs and tables. Gets busy, most ate standing and left since there is no space to hangout.
google avatar

Bianca L.

Yelp
Finally, Filipino dessert in London! The place was packed with people, which I was happy to see. The decor was cute and reminiscent of home. We ordered the Bilog with Milo, and we wanted to try the one with ube as well but we apparently ordered the wrong thing from the ipad, so we got 2 Milo ones. It was good but hard to eat due to the mess from the powder, and the ice cream was so soft that jt would spill out when you take a bite. Flavor was good and tasted just like Milo! The service was fast and efficient.
google avatar

Conner S.

Yelp
A great spot for Filipino desserts in Chinatown! They are typically pretty busy but they have an efficient ordering system and the treats come out super quick! I shared the Ube Bilog which is essentially a pastry stuffed with ube ice cream. It was delicious! I really liked how the pastry on the outside was still warm while we were eating it. There are a variety of other flavors and options as well!
google avatar

Linda T.

Yelp
We ordered our ice creams from their self service kiosk machines which was quick and convenient. We got the two scoop ice cream flavors: ube and milo. It costed about 4.50 GBP. We enjoyed their ice cream and the milo flavor tasted similar to Ovaltine. I would have loved to tried their other desserts and the buko (black coconut) flavor too. But our time in London was limited and we would have to comeback again one day!
google avatar

Shelly W.

Yelp
Wow! Ube ice cream flavor was so light and refreshing. Ube tastes like taro with a stronger coconut taste. The bun around it was slightly sweet and just the combination was delicious! Def worth a try.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Mamasons is a popular ice cream joint in Chinatown. They feature fun and eclectic flavors such as ube (purple yam), buko (black coconut), milo (chocolate malt), calamansi (Filipino lime), and more. They sometimes have rotational flavors such as avocado. The buko is by far my favorite! You can get regular scoops, or level up for a unique pastry + ice cream combo. Their signature is the bilog, which is ice cream encased in a pandasal milk bun, then toasted to be warm and slightly crispy on the outside, yet cold and creamy on the inside. They also have a tasty ubo brownie and a buko pie, both of which are scrumptious (the brownie is especially indulgent). If you're more a fan of drinkable concoctions, the halo halo is an over-the-top mixture of shaved ice, coconut strings and jellies, and more, topped with two scoops of ice cream. Very extra! The place can look busy, but service is always fast. Place an order at one of the self-service kiosks (or order up front if necessary), and they'll call your number in a couple minutes. Just note that dine-in might be a bit loud and cramped, so I usually get takeaway. Overall a delish creamery!

Yelp
Soooo good!! They give such a variety of things in your halo halo. This place is super popular and the queue often stretches out the door, so it's really nice they have self ordering machines inside. We came at an odd time so it was luckily empty, but I oddly felt like the workers kept staring at us. Maybe it's just me.
google avatar

Yelp
After Mamasons was mentioned on a "best hot chocolate of London" video on YouTube, I knew I had to visit. The hot chocolate featured on the video was the Ube Coco. I'd highly recommend it. The combination of ingredients on the video make it sound extremely sweet, but it really isn't - this is coming from someone who prefers Asian cakes and pastries and thinks American ones are way too sweet. I didn't have that weird aftertaste on my tongue when you drink or eat something too sweet and need water to wash it down. Tl;dr would highly recommend the ube coco!!!

Lauren C.

Yelp
We came back twice! The ube options were out of this world. Yum! Unfortunately, they were always sold out of the ube hot chocolate by the time we got there. I don't understand why they don't just make more.
google avatar

Leah P.

Yelp
Great location easy to find but limited seating and always full! Yummy sweets a must try! Heard so kuch about this place so here we are all the way from Texas, USA! Gotta support our fella PinoySo yummy! Will be back tomorrowIts that good!
google avatar

Andrea W.

Yelp
Came here for a bilog, got the ube one (was excited to see they had pandan but I couldn't eat two). Ube flavor wasn't too strong, and it's basically ice cream between bread, wasn't super special. Expensive for what it is, although very filling.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
Everyone talked about this place and getting the bilog, and they were correct. My daughter and I loved it! We got chocolate since that's her favorite and it was so yummy. I didn't know what to expect but the bread(pandan?) was just perfect with it
google avatar

Karyn T.

Yelp
I was really excited to see a bit of my culture in London and I definitely had to come in and support. This ice cream shop is tucked away in Little China, the shop size is roomy but still really cozy and decorated in fun art pieces and hanging plants (love). I ordered a two scoop sundae, the portion sizes of the scoops are pretty generous, my two flavors were ube and queso. I grew up on these flavors so I was hoping that the flavor profiles would live up to what I had in my mind and taste buds. The ube was pretty tasty, really hard to make ube taste bad, but the queso really missed the mark. I'm not sure if it's because they are using British cheddar but the flavor is a lot sharper then I expected. Even though I hadn't explored the menu further I would definitely come back, I've tried pandesal sandwiches in the Philippines before so I'm curious to see how theirs compare!

Gio D.

Yelp
Great food!!! Needs more chairs and tables though.. Try the ube bilog or cheese bilog or halo halo.. out of this world

Kayla P.

Yelp
Some of the best Filipino desserts I've ever had! Had halo halo and ube bilog. So yummy! We did self order but the desserts came out in 5 minutes. The ambiance made me feel like home:) love it here and would definitely recommend!

Yelp
I decided to stop to ice cream place Chinatown. I had a very delicious and strong little Dessert for mid day pick me up. I ordered the UBE iced coffee and it was very delicious.

Yelp
Always a treat to come here after lunch/dinner around Piccadilly. So happy to see a filipino desserts taking a spot in Chinatown! I've tasted Ube Ice-cream and Queso ice-cream in the streets of Philippines, and could say that unfortunately, these 2 flavours at Mamasons doesn't live up to its par. Still pretty good to those trying it the first time though! The Black Buko, however, FANTASTIC! Haven't seen anything else like it anywhere, even in the Philippines! Absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
I love that there is a Filipino ice cream shop in London Chinatown. While on vacation I just had to visit and show support for my people. I was so surprised how packed the shop was. I'm happy they are successful. Plus the shop is very cute. Hot pink, neon lights, art. It's trendy. I got a scoop of Milo flavored ice cream in a charcoal cone, an ube donut for my niece, and a bag of pandesal (Filipino bread rolls). The ice cream was really good. Think ovaltine flavor. The donut had ube cream in it and my niece gobbled it up. I'll take that as a good sign. We snacked on the pandesal back in the hotel and it tasted just like home. If I lived in London, I'd be going to Mamasons weekly.
google avatar

Ben J.

Yelp
Really awesome spot for dessert tucked away near Chinatown. My first time, I just had a scoop of their Ube ice cream - incredibly good, and a new flavor for me, so I wanted to go back and try more. The second time I wanted one of their Halo Halo treats but they didn't serve them right before closing, so instead I went for the bilog: cold icecream inside of a hot doughnut. Wow! That was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend it. Staff was nice, place is always moderately busy, it seems very popular. I want to go another time to try the Halo Halo as it's the only menu item still mysterious to me.
google avatar

Glen R S.

Yelp
Fun little place. Great ice cream. All self-service ordering on pad POV about ten seats for indoor seating

Ed Carlo G.

Yelp
I didn't like the pandesal and Ube ice cream combo. I think a sweeter softer bread like ensaymada would be a better combo.

Happie M.

Yelp
I'm glad that I found this place in Chinatown. Ordered halo halo but it's not the same taste like home. It was good none the less. I recommend it.
google avatar

Andie B.

Yelp
Mamasons is wonderful. I adore their ube ice cream especially getting it in bilog form, which is the ice cream sandwiched in a fluffy bun and toasted. The calamansi lemonade is also wonderfully tangy and sweet at the same time. Definitely recommend popping by if you're in the mood for a lovely dessert.
google avatar

Kacie Z.

Yelp
Found this spot while waiting for dinner! I love their halo halo! I tried somewhere else too but this place is better! The portion is good value. TheyThe ube ice cream bilog is great too. They added some Oreo into the ube ice cream, made it special.

Hectic and beautiful for those dream of diabetes. Bilong is the breakfast of champions

Yelp
Ok let's this review going... this is coming from a place of love and I just want them to improve their halo-halo. I was excited to get one as I LOVE halo halo and I haven't had one for awhile. I was pretty excited when I got it, looks pretty appealing especially with that big scoop of ube ice cream. The ube ice cream is legit but everything else fell flat. If I could rate this no stars I would...It barely had any ingredients that normally can be found in a halo halo (coconut jelly, macapuno-coconut strips, beans, etc). It also didn't have Lexus flan (which mind you the worker told me they didn't have any). As for the flavour it didn't really have any. Usually there should be a rich creamy taste when you mix everything... basically they need to add some suave to this. Ifor £6.50 I'd expect more especially since its pretty pricey. Instead of using corn flakes for crunch, I'd suggest try to get the real rice puffs they use in the Philippines. Basically I just got a big plastic cup of milky ice . Anyways I'd suggest they need to improve this cause as a Filipino I'm definitely disappointed... ugh. This review is purely for their halo halo so I'm not sure how the other items taste like... but I was less motivated to try anything with this disappointment.

Authentic filipino food that's done with a twist and unique way. It's as good as it looks. Noticed it's always busy because it must be really good. Having said that though they move line pretty well with a system.
