Counter-service coffeehouse dishing up Filipino-inspired drinks and grub in a relaxed setting.
"The owners of Mano Modern Cafe want to open more locations, using their new formula — a kind of Filipino American spin on Panera Bread. This cozy West Town cafe has lumpia, pastries, and rice bowls. The drinks feature fun syrups like pandan and ube." - Eater Staff, Ashok Selvam
"Chicago’s Filipino community has been loud in recent years, and a merry band of Fil-Am folks from Cleveland decided it was a good spot to open the first of possibly many restaurants. Mano Modern Cafe in West Town is a tight spot with a nice variety of espresso drinks. The breakfast sandwiches some on pan de sal with fried egg, American cheese, and “pinoy bang bang sauce.” Customers have a choice of longanisa patty, tocino bacon (!!!), chorizo, or spam." - Ashok Selvam, Eater Staff
"Mano Modern Cafe, a casual Filipino-American spot that opened recently in West Town, serves a breakfast slider featuring a choice of tocino, SPAM, chorizo, or longanisa." - Ashok Selvam
"Mano Modern Cafe is a small Filipino coffee shop in Noble Square that’s a fine grab-and-go spot. Aside from regular coffee and espresso, they have ube, pandan, and White Rabbit (a milky Chinese candy) lattes—and though they could use a little more flavor, they’re okay. It’s the food that falls a bit flat. Silog bowls come with bland garlic rice and the chicken adobo isn’t that flavorful either. Handhelds like burgers and BBQ pork sandwiches aren’t much better due to fumbles like overcooked patties or buns that get soggy quickly and don’t hold up to the BBQ sauce. If you’re in the area and just need a caffeine fix or a place to work, Mano is okay. But for better Filipino rice plates, check out nearby spots like Uncle Mike’s, Kasama, or Sun Rey Cafe." - John Ringor
"Mano Modern Cafe is a casual Filipino restaurant specializing in rice bowls and Filipino-inspired sandwiches. The cafe offers unique items such as pandan chai, adobo rice bowls with chicken or pulled pork, 'candy tocino' bacon cheeseburgers, and maple pork sandwiches. For breakfast, they use Filipino buns called pandesal as sliders, filling them with eggs, cheese, and tocino. The cafe aims to create a network of Filipino restaurateurs around the country and demonstrate that Filipino cuisine can succeed on a larger scale." - Ashok Selvam
