"Masterpiece is a family-owned and operated Sichuan restaurant with dishes created by chef Rui Liu. From the Chongqing-style noodles and dry spicy eggplant to tea-smoked duck and shredded beef or pork with hot peppers, few things on the menu don’t come with a bit of heat. Masterpiece is worth the trek north from Atlanta and a great place to enjoy a family-style meal with friends." - Michael Tran
"Masterpiece sits near the northern end of Buford Highway, right where you might feel like you're crossing state lines. The Sichuan dishes here are worth every mile. The savory Zhong dumplings are packed with pork and vegetables and come swimming in a rich, tangy sauce that’s both spicy and sweet. The crispy boneless chicken with dry red pepper is another must-try, with crackly skin and juicy meat (fair warning—it’s fiery). Grab your crew, claim a booth in the spacious dining room, and catch up over plates that’ll have you reaching for your water glass." - nina reeder, jacinta howard, juli horsford
"Masterpiece sits up in northern Duluth, where you might question which state you're in. But even if you’re coming from South Atlanta, their Sichuan dishes make the journey worth it—especially the savory Zhong dumplings swimming in a sweet-spicy sauce. Another favorite, the crispy boneless chicken with dried red pepper may have you repeatedly reaching for your water glass (fair warning: it's very spicy). The dining room is airy, with big booths and large round tables, so it makes sense to bring your crew for a family-style dinner or lunch." - jacinta howard
"Purple Potato Juice Dumplings & Zhong Style Dumplings Even with an unremarkable dining room, Masterpiece in Duluth is where we’d take out-of-town guests to wow them with tasty entrees that are just as impressive as their stellar dumplings. The purple potato juice dumplings are vegetarian (filled with egg, tofu, bean thread noodle, and mushroom) and can hold their own against any meat-filled dumpling. The color of the wrapper is from purple potatoes, which is both visually appealing and adds a slightly earthy taste. The Zhong dumplings are pork- and veggie-filled, served swimming in a bowl of a rich soy and chili oil dumpling sauce that is spicy, sweet, and vinegary—a lot of flavor going on, andt it all works. Save the sauce after you finish the dumplings, and drizzle it onto your rice." - candy hom
