"Chef Mei Lin will join pizza pop-up Caro Mio and its chef, Jackson Baugh, for a one-night-only collaboration on December 13 at Maury’s in Silver Lake. Baugh and Lin first met on the fourth season of Food Network’s Tournament of Champions, which Lin went on to win. The pop-up will kick off at 6 p.m. and is first-come, first-served, so plan to arrive early if you want to secure a pie. Expect specials like a char siu “al pastor” pizza with queso Oaxaca and pineapple, as well as Xinjiang lamb sausage pizza with cumin-laden sausage and herbed labneh." - Rebecca Roland
"We’re as tired as you of this whole “NYC vs. The Rest of the World” debate when it comes to bagel-making, so we’ll skip straight to the point: Maury’s bakes a damn good bagel. Operating out of a red-brick building in a more residential part of Silver Lake, this takeout-only spot serves bagels that are pliable and chewy, plus a whole bunch of cured fish options for every breakfast aficionado in your friend group. If you're looking for something beyond the well-done classics, get a bagel with buttery black cod or a $22 version piled high with lox and wasabi tobiko cream cheese." - sylvio martins, brant cox, cathy park
"Jason Kaplan’s bagel shop sits on the border of Echo Park and Silver Lake near the 101 Freeway. Bagel snobs love Maury’s traditional takes and even those that are out-of-the-box, like the Mori, an open-faced bagel with smoked salmon, pickled cucumber, lemon zest, wasabi, and tobikko roe cream cheese. Alongside the bagels, Maury’s also sells egg and tuna salad sandwiches on thick slices of challah, chocolate and rugelach, and sour cream coffee cake. The shop also offers an excellent dairy-free cultured cream cheese, available paired with loose bagels or in sandwiches." - Mona Holmes

"Maury’s was famous long before they even truly opened. Their weekly pop-ups at Eastside coffee shops were the stuff of legend, selling out most mornings as hordes of people lined up to score a bagel. With their 2019 brick-and-mortar debut, Maury’s was able to cut down on the lines, but the quality remains. These bagels are on the small side, but they are dense, chewy, and absolutely fantastic. The thin-skinned crust still has a bit of texture, and Maury’s makes them at such a clip that yours will always be warm inside. If you’re going for a sandwich, any of the smoked fish options are great, especially the fatty, smoky sablefish." - sylvio martins, arden shore, garrett snyder, cathy park
