"Executive chef and Mezze co-owner Nicholas Moulton won big on Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Games in 2019, inspiring Guy Fieri to dub him the “veggie king.” The title fits Moulton even better off-screen at Mezze, where he works up a contemporary farm-to-table menu. Seasonal options might include miso-marinated bistro steak with roasted onion and delicata squash jam; scallion pancakes with lacinato kale; or petite butternut squash with beluga lentils, hen-of-the-woods mushrooms, and fermented squash-seed curry." - Emma Van Slyck, Stephanie Gravalese

"Technically Mezze is located right outside Williamstown, not North Adams. But don’t let geographical nuances or the short 15-minute drive keep you away - this is one of the best restaurants in New England. Located in a house that could easily double as an art museum, this farm-to-table spot (with a rather romantic outdoor patio) serves some really great seasonal dishes. It’s all very well thought-out, and at $65 per person for a three-course meal, also one of the more affordable fine dining options around. If you only have time for one place in the Berkshires, Mezze should be at the top of your list." - joel ang

"Bolognese We’ve come to expect a certain experience when we order bolognese, namely a weighted blanket of tomato, ground meat, and a lot of cheese. So we were confused when Mezze, one of the best restaurants in the Berkshires, served a dish filled with breadcrumbs and, therefore, some unusually crunchy noodles. But once we got over our initial shock, we realized we really enjoyed the added texture. The breadcrumbs made every bite interesting, serving almost as savory pop-rocks for pasta. We’re all in." - joel ang

Had a fabulous dinner with 12 other ladies here about a week and a half ago! All of our dishes were incredible and our server couldn’t have been sweeter. Super mindful about two tree nut allergies at the table too! Would highly recommend.

Google
We had a top-notch experience at Mezze. With a party of four we were able to all select completely different dishes, which added to a fun tasting experience. The staff is friendly, and the service is efficient. We sat in one of the quieter rooms and had a great view.

Google
Absolutely outstanding in every aspect! The flavors were exquisite; the olive oil alone was incredibly delicious, not to mention all our courses. Huge compliments to the chef! The ambiance was delightful as well, with ample windows that filled the room with natural light and brought in the lovely surroundings. The service was impeccable; the staff was knowledgeable and passionate, offering great suggestions and attention to detail. We cannot wait to visit again soon!

Google
Wonderful new additions on the February prefixed 3 course menu featuring Italian inspired dishes. Nick and Kevin, the chefs, do a fantastic job. Amanda, our server, was patient with our questions and knowledgeable of the items on the menu. Each course was an experience of delicious flavors. I highly recommend a visit to Mezze

Google
It must be the only game in town. $40 for a plate of pasta is a New York City price. And I live in New York City so that pasta should’ve been $26. Goo but not worth the crazy prices. And the lights in the bar are off putting. And get a dimmer for the barroom. Geesh. The lighting is horrific.

Google
Deliciously delicious. Menu seems to change season to season, but the beet soup, hamachi crudo, hanger steak, pork sausage tagliatelle, strawberry oat milk sundae were all super flavorful and fresh. There must be some weird magic going on in the kitchen - like, how do you manage to make beets taste that good?? The staff also made exclusive custom printed 1 year anniversary menus with a wonderful congratulatory message just for us (and on short notice too). Thank you so much for making our Berkshires getaway a wonderful experience! You guys be hard carrying Williamstown out here fr.

Google
Amazing experience… from walking in the door and being greeted by the very friendly staff, to one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Chef Kevin is a master of serving unbelievable dishes that look as good as they taste . His creativity is off the charts. The team at Mezze were perfection, so kind so helpful and so efficient. We look forward to our next visit. Hopefully that will be soon .

Google
My husband and I go to Mezze perhaps a bit too often at this point that the staff recognizes us, but it’s such a gem of the Berkshires from the food to the atmosphere that I can’t turn away. It’s our #1 spot for celebrations or when we have company in town. The food is so fresh and exciting, the drinks are fantastic (for anyone sober/pregnant - best Shirley temple in the world!!) and the servers are so warm and knowledgeable.

Yelp
We happened to get a very quiet booth in the bar which was romantic and comfortable. We both had fish which was prepared perfectly and very tasty. We shared a delicious dessert and overall had a great experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. The martini wasn't the greatest but everything else was.

Tuck V.

Yelp
Both service and food quality were excellent! Chicory salad and shaved fennel were delicious as was the perfectly cooked hanger steak.

Yelp
Our first time here and was recommended to us as a place to try. We made a reservation for last seating of 8:30 and they were able to oblige. Driving up to the reataurant, we were amazed at a breadth of the place. Extremely upscale and charming. When we got seated, we were given a price fixed menu of $60...which we didn't know upfront. The wait staff mentioned we could sit at the bar to order a la carte and few minutes later, our waitress kindly explained to us and also allowed us the option of ordering a la carte at our table. That was extremely accommodating and a definite big plus in our eyes. My son got from the price fixed menu, of which he got pasta chicken broth soup to start as an appetizer. He enjoyed the aroma of the broth but thought that was just alright. He got the bistro steak medium rare which was cooked to perfection. It also came with some small potatoes which was cooked perfectly and had a good crunch to it. For dessert, he got the chocolate cake with one scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cake was stupendously large and moist. My wife and I shared the grilled zucchini for appetizer and it basically was four thinly sliced zucchini grilled and drizzled in some type of amazing sauce. That was extremely tasty. I had the bistro steak for my entree whereas my wife had the shrimp scampi. This dish typically come over a plate of pasta but they were able to satisfy my wife's request since she has gluten allergy and put it over a bed of salad. All in all, amazing food and fabulous decor. Plus, our waitress was super attentive, helpful, and also gave my son a free taste of a non-alcoholic drink. We very much appreciate the service and highly recommend this place.

Yelp
3 course tasting meal not to be missed! I think I'm now obsessed with parsnip soup. Loved the apple they paired with it... it is perfect. I got the Bistro Steak, it was perfectly cooked. There were lots of windows so we could watch the snow coming down. Great, more traditional, dining atmosphere. We went on a Friday night and had a reservation, which I would recommend since they were very full.

Yelp
My husband and I agreed that we should've chosen Mezze for our anniversary dinner instead of John Andrews Farmhouse. People were dressed much nicer at Mezze (we had felt overdressed at John Andrews) and there were white tablecloths, which gives a feel for a more special occasion experience. The food was so much better too. The restaurant is split into several rooms (it looks like a house from the outside). At first we were led to a table in the middle room, but we saw that the back room had more natural lighting from the large windows and it felt more open, so we asked to be seated there instead, and they accommodated us. I love a pre fixe menu, where the chef makes sure everything on it is good! I appreciated all the flavors in our dishes, it felt truly farm to table where the ingredients were fresh. I love the creativity of the menu, and I appreciate that the vegetable course is not just a boring salad. We had the chilled asparagus soup and roasted hen of the woods & oyster mushrooms as the first course. For the second course, we had the bolognese and bistro steak. The bistro steak was very flavorful, even though it came with a sauce on the side, it didn't need it. For dessert, we had the skyr tart and coconut panna cotta, which were terrific as well. There was complimentary bread and olive oil, which was good too. From start to finish, we enjoyed our meal. They did serve the first two courses a bit quickly (okay, it is true that my husband and I eat fast) but we told our server to slow it down a bit after the second course, and she did listen to us. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
The food here is top quality. I would call it upscale rustic authentic Italian cuisine. Staff is top notch and ambience is relaxing. Well worth the trip there if you are in the area.

Susan L.

Yelp
Outstanding restaurant in the Berkshire's. Elegant without the fuss. Beautiful grounds which makes the atmosphere a delight. Outdoor seating is available in addition to seating indoors in two separate dining rooms. The salads are dreamy and dressed with edible flowers. Colorful and tasty. The pasta was a home run- pork and beef ragu. The chicken was perfectly roasted and plated, served with Hen of the Woods mushrooms. Desserts were also included with the Prix Fixe menu- would recommend them all!

Harold B.

Yelp
This is our third or fourth visit to Mezze in Williiamstown, Mass. As usual the food was extraordinary, the views of the Berkshire Hills was impressive, and the service was spectacular. We both had the Taglietele with a pork ragu sauce. It was delightful and very flavorful.. We told the waitress how much we liked it, and she brought over the chef's wife who told us they recently went to Rome to study various dishes, and they prepared this dish with house made pasta cooked to perfection based on dishes they had in Rome. A bottle of Barolo made it extra special. My gazpazho was very flavorful and smooth, The deserts were lovely together with French pressed coffee. An overall enjoyable dinner.

LH M.

Yelp
Lovely dinner. The chef is clearly attentive to details, both in designing the dishes he puts on this prix fixed menu, and in the daily service of the dishes. We had a delightful evening.

Jason W.

Yelp
Best balance of cuisine and ambience in the area. Price is fair for the quality of ingredients and skill.

Mickey N.

Yelp
We went to Mezze to celebrate my birthday. The staff was friendly and professional. The prix fixe menu had limited choices but everything we had was delicious. The steak and fish beautifully prepared. I highly recomendable this restaurant if you are in or near Williamstown.

Yelp
This review is for Dining Under the Pines. A great experience, smooth ordering process and our food was ready right on time as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere really is great, and it's nice to be able to eat underneath the trees and the picnic tables all seem new too. The pick up and ordering tents are very organized, and it's nice that they play music that creates a nice ambiance without being too obtrusive. The food is very tasty and high quality as well. I've never dined in their main restaurant but the burgers were like a more premium Shake Shack burger. The Roasted Chicken and Keftka sandwich were both flavorful and cooked well too. The Roasted Chicken had a beautiful presentation too. Overall, great food and experience! I would recommend Dining Under the Pines at Mezze.

L D.

Yelp
Delicious food. Disappointing service. Folks bringing food to table were great. Our waiter and the hostess were disappointing. Ambiance- lovely.

Michelle A.

Yelp
If you define Mezze as 'tapas' or 'small plates' prepare to be fooled by the prix fixe 3 course $54 pp menu with a cocktail menu that means business. Formal room with tables widely spaced faces a busy road. The sweet waitress recites the specials, including 'hawk' fish (actually hake) that arrives undercooked. Seasonal sun chokes and asparagus are tasty, steak frites could feed a family! Desserts hit the mark -- smores, sorbet and pannacotta. A well behaved golden retriever under the next table enjoyed the vibe.

Ira L.

Yelp
We did takeout. The food was good and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately the issue is the sticker shocker. The portions are average to small and the prices are steep for good but not exceptional food. A meal for two (vegetarian no less) was $80 excluding drinks. For that amount of money I expect to be wowed, and I was not.

Anthony G.

Yelp
An utterly phenomenal culinary experience in the heart of Berkshires. We are perpetual snow tourists in this region. If you ever travel with kids, you know they are picky. That creates a conflict of interest where kids want foods that adults aren't very excited about. Well, this place has great choices to keep both adults and a 6 year old happy. So far we have only ordered takeout, but we are looking forward to a sit down experience. My kids loved crispy turmeric potatoes and adults loved the farm beets. Kids had the pasta which even in takeout container tasted Al dente (yay!) and everyone loved herb roasted chicken. Hope to return here soon.

Yelp
We wanted to share an amazing experience we had at Mezze, unlike at any other restaurant we have visited. My wife had looked at the menu ahead of our visit, and had found an appetizer that she was looking forward to. When we got to the restaurant, that item was not on the menu, and the server explained that the menu changed daily. When ordering, my wife didn't like any of the other appetizers, so didn't order one (even though it was a 3-course prix fixe menu). A few minutes later, the manager came by and said the server told her that my wife had not ordered any appetizer. My wife explained that she was looking forward to the appetizer (a trout dish) she had seen online, and none of the others appealed to her. She asked my wife if she could have the kitchen making something else for her. She suggested French fries, and my wife said that would be fine. Our appetizers came, and then a few minutes later, the manager brought us the trout dish my wife had seen online. She explained that the chef had found the ingredients in the kitchen, even though it wasn't on the menu for that night. We were shocked that the chef had persevered to meet our needs. Later, when our desserts came, our server brought us an extra dessert, "a gift from the chef because of our earlier disappointment." We somehow managed to enjoy all three desserts, even though we had already had three appetizers and our two entrees! All of the food was wonderful, and this was a great example of a kitchen that went way beyond the expected in order to please us. We were so impressed that we would return to this restaurant at any time.

Warren M.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this restaurant doesn't have a Michelin star. I've eaten at Michelin starred restaurants and this meal was better than any of those. Always, there's *some* detectable minor flaw in the dish or presentation, but not here. Perfect meal.

Mary P.

Yelp
Fabulous! Great experience- not a place for a quick bite- at least not in Oct 2021. We had Fixed Price three course meals, and no regrets. Everything was prepared nicely and staff were great. The menu apparently changes frequently, so you maybe disappointed that the miso Brussels Sprouts are not available, but odds are something else that is phenomenal will be on the menu. Nice wine menu with interesting offerings not all pricey!

Zoraida A.

Yelp
This place is a little gem. High end food with great presentation and flavor. The service is top notch. It is more on the quite side but not boring.

Mary S. P.

Very Nice wine menu with interesting offerings not all pricey. Matty, their wine specialist is approachable, knowledgeable and has excellent offerings. Most restaurants of this quality start with wines over $40 a bottle- but not here. We have had the St. Amour Beaujolais a few times and a Spanish Monestrell and we are always impressed. We have been back since oct '21 several times and although pricey, it Never disappoints!

Yelp
I'm so happy our hotel (Tourists) recommended Mezze to us. Everything from "hello" to "good-bye" was amazing. Shout out to the bartender for making our Oaxaca Old Fashioned strong, just the way we like them. The parsnip soup had such unusual toppings but the taste was perfect. The bolognese was superb. The apple and cranberry crisp was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. All the servers were courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. We decided to dine indoors because it was chilly outside but they spaced out the tables in perfect socially distanced style and we felt safe. Our biggest issue with Mezze was that we didn't make a reservation here for every night of our stay, it was so good. I really hope that restaurants like Mezze are able to survive the pandemic because I'm already looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Another year, another show at WTF (No, that stands for Williamstown Theater Festival)! And that means another dinner at Mezze. Their 5 pm opening on a Sunday is perfect for arrival after leaving the theater. Of course that means a large influx of patrons all at once. But they are obviously accustomed to it as staff very efficiently meet, greet and seat all comers. Our party of eight were professionally served throughout the meal. Water glasses were refilled as needed, and dirty plates and serving dishes were whisked away as needed. The menu still had some holdovers from last year, but I can't vouch for their preparation being repeated. Last year, the Garganelli ($25) was popular with our group and I decided to order it for myself this year. It was delicious. Just a little bit of spicing in the tomato sauce, an excellent Italian sausage with a coarse texture that I wished there were more of, braised beef and pork bolognaise, and some bone marrow crumbs that added a crunchy texture to this pasta dish. My wife ordered the Hen of the Woods appetizer ($20) as her main course since she enjoyed that dish so much last year. This year's preparation had an egg yolk, and ham crumbs over the mushrooms on broccoli puree (and was $3 less expensive). She thoroughly enjoyed it once again. We ordered four different desserts ($8.50 each) for the table to share. I think the overall favorite was the Black Raspberries with lemon curd, shortbread, basil, and meringue. A very strong second was the Gammelgarden Buttermilk Panna Cotta with red raspberries. Possibly a tossup for second was the Chocolate Layer Cake with chocolate crumble and sweet milk ice cream. While the Angel Food Cake with strawberry pudding bar, vanilla cream, and roasted strawberries was the least favored, I think that was because people tended to view it as too closely resembling a simple strawberry shortcake that they make at home. I for one, really enjoyed the angel food cake and strawberries and got to eat an extra portion. Their coffee is served in a French press and is rich and robust. I don't recall what the wine was that the table shared, but I know it went very well with my pasta dish.

Susie Miller B.

Yelp
Mezze, Oh Mezze you saved my Friday night. The pick up bolognaise a true Covid delight. The service was grand, the pines quite divine, It continues to be culinary so fine. We're seasonal people, so soon it will be a longish commute the next times two or three. Til then I commend such great service so kind, Delicious, inspiring and at top of mind, Will be your fine dining in our hearts entwined with hopes that next year the world is refined.

Jodi F.

Yelp
On a trip to Williamstown, based on reviews we made reservations at Mezze. We were disappointed in the food completely. The short ribs were dry with no flavor whatsoever and the salmon dish was "fishy" (if you eat fish you know that any fish that has a "fishy" taste is old) The desert was even more disappointing. The atmosphere was cute and the waitstaff friendly ~ but not worth the $52 price fix menu offered per person.

Candace A.

Yelp
Not much to say about this place aside from the fact that it's overrated. In addition, the service lacked on so many levels. The menu is limited, offering options of mediocre taste. There was not one thing that I was impressed with. We had to ask to be served, no one asked how our food was, we asked for the desert menu and then again the check. It was just too much work for nothing. This laid back Berkshire menu and laid back service should be overlooked.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Decided to take a quick trip to Williamstown just to get away. Stayed right down the street from this fabulous restaurant! Went on a Friday and tried the tasting menu. We were sat by the fireplace and had great service the entire time. The food was FABULOUS! From the beet salad, to the the braised short ribs, to the chocolate pudding everything was fantastic! Highly recommended. What a treat!!

David V.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Orecchiette bolognese was excellent except the pasta was penne not orecchiette (not important). Hanger steak was thick, tender and flavorful - more like a tenderloin. Flame roasted peppers were plentiful and flavorful. Service was excellent. Will definitely go there again. Highly recommended.

Margie S.

Yelp
Wow, what a shame. Short on oysters (they ran out!), unwilling to cook my burger medium rare (Server emphatically claimed "We do it our way, cooked through"), our beef cabbage soup arrived ice cold and was barely enough to cover the bottom of the bowl (we sent it back for both reasons), the Brussel sprouts came out absolutely burnt, the service was non-existent and indifferent. We were exhausted by the experience! Our family had been coming here for decades. No more. Not coming back. PS Finally an owner/manager (?) appeared, but only as we were awaiting our check, and she comped the meal. That was nice, yes, but, unfortunately did not change our experience or our conclusions.

Joanne B.

Yelp
Even in the midst of a pandemic, Mezze is divine. Every single course of the prix fixe menu was flavorful and delicious. I had the Brussels sprouts and salmon. My husband had the candy squash and steak. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We love this place.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
If you're looking for a special meal out in the mountains, this is it. My husband and I had a wonderful meal here. They're going above and beyond with heaters on their deck to make dining options continue to work during covid. We ate here with their fixed price menu and everything was delicious from start to finish. I will say that I didn't find the service to be particularly warm or engaging. The stress of the new conditions shows through to some extent, but Mezze deserves a lot of credit for making fine dining work in these challenging times.

Nancy S.

Yelp
Great food but choice of music grates. Why this restaurant thinks it needs any music at all is beyond me, but the jumpy jazzy stuff chosen destroys the calming ambience I cherish at dinner.

Emily H.

Yelp
Definitely recommend Mezze. Everything was excellent. Great staff, great old house (used to be Le Jardin), great food, great views. Excellent place for a date night. We had the Hen of the Woods mushroom appetizer (egg yolk, fava beans, duck confit, ham crumbs) and it was perfect for two people to split and was really delicious. We never did receive any bread. The Garganelli Pasta (I called it Gargamelle Pasta, get it, from the Smurfs?) was really yummy. It had braised pork, beef shank, Italian sausage, and tomato sauce. All the ingredients were fresh and local so I was glad they kept it simple. My husband had the duck breast and loved it. I was a little confused by the "small plates" concept, since the prices seemed to match big plates, and the portions were huge. We didn't have room for dessert, but it's always good to have a reason to go back. :) It's best to make a reservation, since every table was taken, even on a Sunday night.

Blair J.

Yelp
Visited for dinner on vacation in NW Mass, and despite lack of competition for upscale dining, did not disappoint. Great vegetable preparations, creative cocktails. Salmon isn't always easy to get right, but ours was perfectly cooked inside and out. Order as many fresh veggies as you can, they do a great job working with what is fresh and in season.

Bob H.

Yelp
Excelent. Tonight we found all our food, the service, and the setting were well worth the cost.

Alissa O.

Yelp
The cocktails were delightful, the staff was warm and the environment was lovely. I recommend the salmon for the main dish and the pork belly for the appetizer. We will come back!

Roger M.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in the Berkshires -- and I eat at a lot of restaurants in the Berkshires. Like many of my favorites, it seems that most things are locally sourced. But, Mezze simply brings it up to a level of excellence in preparation and service that others do not match. As a result, it tends to be our restaurant of choice for birthdays and special events. (The other one is Chez Nous in Lee.) The menu at Mezze changes daily. I loved the appetizer of heirloom tomatoes with melon. It gave the meal a nice summery touch. The Chicken Breast with Cauliflower Pureé, New Potatoes, Mushrooms, Leeks was tender and delicate. Who knew that cauliflower could taste so good? I have been a fan of Mezze for years -- including in their old smaller Williamstown center location. It just keeps getting better.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Last night was my third visit to Mezze Bistro. Each time was a lovely experience. The only thing better than the food is the staff. From start to finish an excellent evening.

Dan B.

Yelp
This place is outstanding, and is unquestionably the best restaurant in the area. I've been here a couple times and both experiences were great. Despite eating here a couple times, I only remember a single dish: melon soup with scallop carpaccio. It was incredible, and it made such an impression on my that I barely remember the rest of the meal. The scallops were incredibly fresh, which was quite a surprise to me; generally speaking the quality of the seafood drops off dramatically as you gets further from coastal New England. I will gladly go back and order seafood again. They also have proper espresso. I know that this shouldn't be of major importance, but I like to finish a meal with an espresso, and they have it. Anyway, recommended. It's a little pricey, but it would be a great place to impress a date.

Lester L.

Yelp
Can't put any more words than impressively delicious. Service is great. Food is terrific. Highly highly recommended to try this out.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Just delicious! My favorite was the hen of the woods appetizer but all food was cooked perfectly.

Seema R.

Yelp
Wonderful service and food. The menu, while small, features solid choices. And dessert was particularly delicious. The setting was lovely.

Eileen L.

Yelp
Our most recent visit didn't hit the 5 star standard we normally loved about Mezze. I think the demand is high and the space during COViD just doesn't allow Mezze to be its best. Food was still good, service good but they rushed you through the meal.

Megan C.

Yelp
What a treat it was to dine here. Everyone in my party adored every course. I had the spring vegetables which were outstanding, the egg was utter perfection, the way the yolk cracked was art. I also had the pork loin and it was perfectly seasoned, the mushrooms added an appreciated earthy flare. We all ended with the meal with the tiramisu and just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we were served this showstopper. The water quality was also outstanding, it may sound odd but some restaurant water isn't very good, this water was so smooth and we raved about it all evening . Will definitely be back. Portions are a great size, though expensive, it is definitely worth the price tag and you won't leave feeling disappointed or hungry. The atmosphere is sophisticated, yet relaxed, and the staff has a wonderful eclectic energy.

Marianna A.

Yelp
The Food is extraordinary. The menu is simple but sublime. I made reservations for 6 people the day before and they said they would squeeze us in, giving us an 8:00 pm time. However, the place was relatively empty and They could have seated us sooner. That is the only reason I give it 4 stars. The food is exceptional.

Janine H.

Yelp
Mezze is our go-to restaurant, close to home. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The food is local and delicious and the menu creative. Mezze offers top quality cuisine in a serene space.

Rob S.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, we have been here numerous times. Food is good service is okay, busboy likes to pour water from a distance with a bit of showmanship , cute if you want the table, menu and hands getting wet. Bar seemed limited except for a large wine list

Rena P.

Yelp
We started with fried chick peas with shiracha sauce. It's good. The warm potato salad is wonderful. Our dinner hubby had the octopus he said it's excellent. I just had a burger it was good but will not pay $18 again for a burger. The dessert roasted strawberries with buttermilk ice cream and graham crumbs is Devine! We will definitely come back but will not be our weekly dine out routine. It's a pricy restaurant at least for us.

Yelp
tl;dr Good food; awkward service. --- Reasons why you dine at Mezze: 1. You are visiting Williams and this is the only place to go for a "classier" meal. 2. You are visiting the Berkshires and this is the only place to go for a "classier" meal. 3. You are a Williams student and this is the only place to go for a "classier" meal. My sister is a student at Williams so we stopped here to eat when I visited her back in October. For a place that has a monopoly on fine dining near Williams, I'm surprised at how good the food was, since they literally could serve subpar food, charge exorbitant prices, and still get away with it. Instead, the food was actually pretty good and the prices reasonable (NYC prices but they get a lack of slack because they have to import a lot of the food). We came in a group of 3 so we sampled a fair share of the entrees - my sister got a pasta dish that was less memorable, my girlfriend got a sous vide chicken entree that's reminiscent of a porchetta, and I got the steak frites with chimichurri. We also got a side of the maitake mushrooms that are supposed to be harvested locally. We finished with an almond cake with olive oil gelato. The food was really well prepared. My steak was cooked expertly and the chimichurri complimented the richness of the beef. The wild maitake was really the only disappointment - it was $8 and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary - tastes like maitake that I buy at the supermaket and saute myself. The only downside to the experience is that since my sister is a Williams student, she knew that the servers were also alums/students at Williams. We were served by an extremely awkward recent Williams grad - most of the time he didn't know what to say (or what the dishes tasted like) and when he attempted to make small talk he would make tangential comments that just made it even more awkward. Additionally, he made a big fuss about checking our IDs for drinks (we were all 21+ and he was doing his job, so it's OK), but it really just made the situation even more strained since I had to go back into the car to get my gf's ID, he had to come back to check her ID after checking mine already, and then he cautioned my sister from drinking any of our drinks because she didn't bring her ID. Basically, 4/5 for the food, and though I rarely deduct for service, I think that if Mezze wants to use younger servers they should at least go the distance and train them better if they want to serve a more upper-end clientele. The maitre'd was excellent, however. We will be back! (because this is not Spring Street and the food was fairly good) We'll see how the service is the second time around. ps. We were a bit confused on attire initially, but basically you could pretty much wear whatever you want that's not super casual. The restaurant itself is actually fairly laid-back - so nice casual or semi-dressy would be fine.
