"Midnight Oil is a late-night dim sum and cocktail bar in Downtown Long Beach that’s decked out in traditional Chinese lanterns and pottery. The decor sets the mood for pork buns, har gow, shumai, and popcorn shrimp, and although a fried rice-inspired cocktail wasn’t on our bingo card, here it is—made with Baijiu, gin, rice syrup, and served in a snake cup." - cathy park

Love the decor! All the cocktails sound so interesting, I want to go back and try them all. I had the persimmon & apples, strong but very refreshing. Egg rolls were freshly made in house, angry edamame were perfect to snack on while sipping on drinks.

Wonderful restaurant whether you're looking to socialize or have a quick bite. The food was good and the prices reasonable. The dark ambiance made it feel more intimate and if you look around, you might find a panel to bring you to a different vibe entirely. Will definitely be back!

Great food, creative and delicious drinks, decor and service impeccable. Little bit light on the vegetarian options for food, but more than enough to get by.

Yelp
Finally! Late night dim sum in downtown LB! Owner and master mind, Leonard Chan, has completely transformed what used to be a Miami-themed Rosemallows into an elegant, grand Chinese bar. They offer some creative, Asian-inspired craft cocktails such as Chu-High, Whiskey High Ball and "Fried Rice." I tried the Coconut Yuzu, which consisted of Old Forrester bourbon, coconut juice and yuzu. Excellent balance and not totally sweet. Dim Sum I tried: Pork & Shrimp Shumai - 4pc for $6 Hargow Shrimp Dumplings- 4pc for $6 BBQ Char Siu Pork Buns - 2 pc for $8 Sesame Balls - 4pc for $5 Everything was delicious and can't beat that price point here! I wanted to try the Shrimp Fried Rice, but they ran out of rice. It's still the soft opening and they're working out some kinks, but it was still a fun experience overall. The speakeasy, Road Kill, is still up and running and they are preparing to open an Opium Lounge on the other side of Midnight Oil. Looking forward to checking that out in the near future too!

Yelp
Hottest new bar in downtown Long Beach!! Conveniently located by a parking garage, which is so clutch in this area. Upon entering, I felt like I was entering an old school Chinese wushu drama. I love the Chinese theme décor and the soft music playing in the background. I'd really have to commend the ownership about how on theme everything is. I met up with a friend at Midnight Oil to check them out for their soft opening. There was a little construction in front for another part of the restaurant, but I'm glad they decided to take the leap and opened. They're already mentioned improvements they are undergoing based on the soft opening feedback they've been getting. I love that mentality for a new business! There were booths along one side of the restaurant and plenty of bar seating. We opted for the bar to be social. Peter was the bartender who helped us for the evening. Of the drinks I can remember, I tried their Hojicha Mule with Gin ($15) and a Fried Rice cocktail ($15). The hojicha is great for anyone who likes tea, like I do. It has a splash of ginger beer and lime to really balance out everything. This is something I can dangerously keep sipping. The fried rice cocktail is definitely more unique and an acquired taste. I happen to like it cause I like five spice and sesame oil. It has an umami sensation. I kept sipping and sipping and the flavors kept evolving. At times I felt like it was like a chill sweet and savory broth. Super creative and definitely not something you'd find anywhere else, but make sure you like the ingredients before ordering. I dig it. Ohh and not to mention it's served in a stunning snake cup, honoring the Chinese zodiac year of the snake this year - at the time of opening. For the food we definitely sampled a good amount of their menu. We ordered the Scallion Pancake ($12), Pork and Shrimp Shumai ($6), BBQ Char Sui Pork Buns ($8), Chicken Wings ($13), Shrimp Fried Rice ($17). DELICIOUS. Wow. How did no one think of this combination sooner. I love dim sum and I usually struggle to wake up early enough for it so I looooove that they have dim sum. And it goes so well as a drunk snacky. Absolutely Genius. I was munching and drinking and munching some more. If I had to pick, my favorite is the chicken wings and the shumai. My friend really like their fried rice cause it's more substantial. I'm a snacking person so I like those small bites. Their menu has something for everyone. Next time I come back I'll definitely have one of their frozen alchy drinks. I saw that they had a machine swirling like fat Tuesdays. Fabulous! I also want to try their egg rolls and sesame balls on my next visit. Next time I need to bring back more friends to share food with.

Yelp
Learned about this place from LB Food Coma and it did not disappoint! The food was so good, and I appreciated some vegan options (I am a vegetarian). I had the angry edamame, scallion pancake, vegetable mushroom buns and sesame balls. All very good but my favorite hands down were the scallion pancake and sesame balls. I will be craving more of them later on, I know. My husband (along with sharing with me) got the Har gow and char siu pork buns. He's eaten a lot of dim sum and was impressed with the food and said it was the best char siu he had ever had. The cocktails were all delicious. We loved trying the Fried Rice! It had the Ming River baijiu which was new to us but good. Most of all, I loved hearing from Peter how he crafted the drink. His thoughtfulness and dedication toward crafting his drinks didn't go unnoticed. The overall ambiance was nice between the decor, the old school kung fu movies playing in the background and the fun secret tiki bar. Service was great. Leonard was very attentive between the bar and tables. I loved how him and Peter both sat down and chatted with us at one point. I appreciated the interactions, and recommendations on drinks they gave. It felt very friendly and made me feel excited to come back! Thanks again, Peter and Leonard for giving my husband and I great service and an overall great date night.

Yelp
Great new spot to catch a drink after dinner around the area . We decided to try their cocktails, and I was a fan of the melon. The chu-hi was a very interesting combo with lemongrass and winter melon, loved the after taste. Didn't get to try the food because we were too full but will definitely be back to try the food. Usually we aren't cocktail people, so next time we'll try their liquor and wine menu. Not too loud overall, nice ambience !

Yelp
I've been waiting all week to try this place out and finally got to! Starting off, do not be surprised by the massive wall being constructed as they are adding a third bar (as we were informed by the staff member). When it comes to seating, there's a bar and booths. We were sat in a booth and automatically fawned over it, since it was really roomy and comfortable. When you walk in, you'll see a projector playing films as well. For food, we ordered the shu mai, har gow, radish cake, and spam fried rice. Along with that, we ordered the passion fruit vanilla, persimmon & apples, and whiskey highball. Our favorite dish was the radish cake and least favorite was the spam fried rice, which ended up being spicier than expected. Everyone we talked to was very kind but I will say that we did order a dish that never came out even after mentioning it to three different staff members. At the end, we just asked to remove it from the check and it worked out since we were stuffed!

Yelp
Went for the first time last night and it was delicious! The service was great and it was a cool ambience. It's not often you come across trendy Asian restaurants in Long Beach! Leonard was the owner and he was amazing! He was so friendly and checked on every table. I'll definitely be coming back

Yelp
I hit review stars by mistake. I was looking over the review and I'm planning on going there in the future because it sounds perfect. I live in North Long Beach so it's not far from me.

Yelp
I haven't been yet but feel awful business rating is low from a 1 star rating as someone (Robert) literally can't read when they are open. Customer trying to go on a day they posted are closed, then comes on here to complain on yelp that they aren't open when they literally say they aren't open and gives them one star. I cannot wait to try it out and support! Do better Robert........... also it's spelled wasted not waisted buddy.

Yelp
Visited Midnight Oil on a Thursday night and it was very busy. The host found us 2 seats at the bar very quickly. The vibe was chill and music was good. The bartenders were very attentive and recommended cocktails to us. During the 2 hours, we tried (don't judge) Whiskey Highball, Coconut Yuzu, Persimmon & Apples, and Fried Rice cocktails. Drinks were all very creative, well balanced and strong. Since it was dinner time we had the Popcorn chicken, Chicken wings, Pork ribs, shumai, hargow and turnip cakes. Food all came out quickly and hot. Cocktails and dim sum... what a great combination! Also as for pricing, they could've easily charged a few bucks more for the quality cocktails and food. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

Yelp
The Chu Hai and melon are both great drinks. But the M&M shot- I'm still daydreaming of. For food, I had the chicken wing, popcorn chicken and the shu mai all really tasty. Can't wait until the rest of the menu rolls out.

Yelp
We had a great experience at Midnight Oil. The drinks were complex, earthy and exotic, the atmosphere is conducive to interaction, food delicious and generously portioned. Just talking about it makes me want to go back!

Yelp
They have a soft menu as they are newly open but the food was amazing. The flavors are right on point. Our server Sue was friendly and open to feedback. She was a bonus to us as we tried the flavors of many of the foods. A for sure place to try if you like dim sum and good vibes. Just be patient as they get the experience put together. Can't wait to go back and try new additions to the menu.
