OVERALL EXPERIENCE: concept seemed cool, but this was lacking in so many ways! Unfortunately, it missed the mark for us, and some of the dishes and drinks were more Japanese inspired than Chinese, so a bit confused as to the direction of this concept.
AMBIANCE: Very low light, noise is average, limited booths and some bar seating.
Upon entry, there are two small tables (IMO, this was a terrible placement for these tables). The cushioned seat is way too high, table too low. I would recommend a higher table, and chair to accompany it. Also to put a divider to separate the tables from the entry way. It does not make for a pleasant experience to have people walking so closely to the table, esp at the entrance. However, I would suggest to remove these two tables from the front entrance.
DRESS CODE: Smart Casual
ORDERED: Unfortunately, none of the food stood out, and most were lacking in flavor.
[4/5] shishito peppers: not bad, but not great
[4/5] mushroom salad: a bit bland, could use a bit more black vinegar and sesame oil
[5/5] scallion pancake: not bad
[3/5] sesame balls: presentation was lacking. a smaller platter may have been better.
[3/5] bbq pork buns (may have been steamed too long? the breading was a bit soggy)
DRINKS:
[0/5] fried rice: this sounded fun and it served a good punch but not in a good way. we were interested in the name and the combo; expected some sweetness and for it to be strong, but this just did not taste good at all! it was very difficult to drink, and we ended up not finishing it... and we do not waste alcohol!
[3/5] coconut yuzu: did not hit the mark on the coconut or yuzu flavor. it is whisky forward, but this was a plain highball, which I'm not upset at. just was disappointed that there was no coconut or yuzu flavors.
SERVICE: Service was great, and everyone was friendly!
PRICE: $50pp
PARKING: street parking (metered until 8pm), or paid lot across the street.
