Mill Basin Deli is a quirky kosher spot in Brooklyn, blending classic deli fare like pastrami sandwiches and matzoh ball soup with a vibrant art gallery vibe.
"This middle-aged Brooklyn treasure is as old-school as it gets, and though it’s a bit of a trek to Mill Basin, anyone looking for a true-blue Jewish deli won’t think twice," state Michelin inspectors of this deli near Brighton Beach. Latke "chips" at Mill Basin come piled high, and are served with a side of your choice: applesauce or fried onions."
"This colorful spot a stone’s throw from the seaside (great for after-dinner walks) doubles as an art gallery, which gives you something to look at while waiting for your overstuffed deli sandwiches. Chopped liver and brisket au jus are standouts, as are matzoh ball soup, or pristine chopped salads and bread dips. The menu sprawls in a pleasant sort of way, so in the unlikely event you’re tired of classic deli fare, you can stray to fajitas, turkey gumbo, or the PLT sandwich — featuring burnt pastrami slices." - Eater Staff
"A deli that doubles as an art gallery? This kosher deli in the Mill Basin neighborhood of Brooklyn does just that. The hot dogs are particularly fine and can be enjoyed while eyeballing Lichtenstein and Calder prints, and original paintings, most far less distinguished. While the stuffed derma is a bit gluey, the garlicwurst is excellent. The pastrami could use a little more oomph, but the matzo ball soup is first rate, especially with noodles." - Robert Sietsema
