MiMi Mei Fair

"One for both horticulturalists and dim sum fans is Mimi Mei Fair’s plans for Lunar New Year. The swish Chinese restaurant has brought a florist in to transform the Mayfair spot into a particularly lush version of the Rainforest Cafe. There will be a tree for guests to dine under, with gilded cages filled with red envelopes hanging from the branches. Food-wise there’s a ‘Basket of Wealth’ which is three types of dim sum, mains include crispy pork with pineapple and pomelo, and there’s a traditional sticky rice cake with chocolate ice cream for dessert. The Peking Duck is sliced tableside and tastes like savoury candy. The dumplings could easily be mounted on bands and worn as gorgeous cocktail rings. "This atmospheric restaurant, set across multiple floors in a Mayfair townhouse, already features hand-painted silk walls, striking furniture, and ornate chandeliers, but it is getting a further makeover especially for LNY, with a purple floral paradise installation symbolising prosperity, peace and luck. As well as this, a menu, also by Peter Ho, will start with two “basket of wealth” dumplings, thought to bring luck, and continue with oysters and a chopped truffle vegetable soong. It’s available from 13 January until 5 February." - Shekha Vyas
