"The Mexican food at Mírate may be inconsistent, but the cocktails are always hits. We’d happily send anyone to this multi-story restaurant in Los Feliz solely to drink under a giant lit-up tree in their courtyard. Classic cocktails feel new and interesting like a carajillo sweetened with nutty marzipan, a crisp martini that mixes gin, vermouth, and tequila without tasting like rocket fuel, and the best spicy margarita we’ve ever had—lacto-fermented chorizo makes this tequila cocktail taste like beef jerky, which sounds odd but is delicious in a smoky-salty kind of way." - sylvio martins, brant cox, garrett snyder
"A two-story, skylit restaurant-bar that pairs festive, lively volume with careful ethical sourcing and spirited innovation; the menu highlights nitro-infused pulque, specially canned cocktails, and an Oaxacan rum slushy among other inventive offerings. Bar director Maxwell Reis composes imaginative drinks that titillate the palate—don’t miss the El Taquero #2, a mezcal-based concoction emulating al pastor with asiento and tostada-washed private-batch espadin, Oaxacan pineapple brandy, chile liqueur, pineapple, and al pastor honey." - ByEsther Tseng
"The food at Mírate can be hit-and-miss, but its superpower is its courtyard. This labyrinth of a Mexican spot looks like a luxurious, multi-story treehouse built for a billionaire evading the IRS in the jungle. The massive tree rising through the middle warrants a moment of quiet appreciation, usually reserved for mountain peaks or a perfectly ripe avocado. Whether you’re seated at one of the candlelit tables or the separate bar area, this place is romantic. Stop by for a few tacos and some impressive cocktails, like the spicy margarita made with lacto-fermented chorizo." - brant cox, arden shore, sylvio martins, cathy park
"Mírate features multiple levels, two bars, and separate dining rooms with Mírate partner Matthew Egan’s photography and murals by Mexico City-based artist Jorge Telleache. The restaurant — which serves award-winning cocktails and dishes like kampachi aguachile negro and cochinita pibil — also offers views of the Griffith Observatory and even has a retractable roof. Alexa Nafisi-Movaghar from design firm Adean reworked the former event venue space, with new tiles, walled textiles, cushiony banquettes, and live plants tucked into every crevice, and room for 180 total diners at a time." - Nicole Adlman

"Mírate’s kitchen is now led by Alan Sanz, who previously worked at the now-closed Maizano Costa Mesa and Enrique Olvera’s renowned Mexico City restaurant Pujol. Tucked away up a set of stairs, the dining room at Mírate may be the lushest space in Los Feliz, with vines climbing the walks and small palms sprawled throughout. Here, Sanz serves dishes like kanpachi aguachile negro, Yucatán-style cochinita pibil, and honey-roasted carrots with salsa macha. Mezcal expert Max Reis mans the bar, serving drinks like the El Guero margarita, the Tu Compa paloma, and La Sonadora clarified milk punch. Find the semi-hidden entrance on Vermont, just before neighboring bar High Tops. Valet parking is available out front since Los Feliz parking tends to not be the easiest.
