Mise en Place

"Originally a small-scale catering business founded in 1986 by partners Maryann Ferenc and Chef Marty Blitz, this riverfront enclave has gone on to become a local culinary fixture. The sleek, comfortable space and assured service are as suitable for romantic duos as business groups—and either set would be well advised to sample from their list of carefully poured classic cocktails. The menu features a freewheeling selection of international flavors—from squash blossoms filled with creamy ricotta and spicy 'nduja, to mole-crusted scallops with a masa and squash purée. Desserts in particular are noteworthy. A warm pistachio polenta cake paired with olive oil gelato and basil blackberry jam, for instance, manages to be both comforting and au courant." - Michelin Inspector

Had been wanting to go to the restaurant for a while. Ate at their cafe at TPA airport handful of times & it’s pretty good for airport restaurant. Was expecting better from the main restaurant. 5 stars for presentation of the food. 5 stars for service too. Breads & the dipping sauce was amazing. Appetizer: Ordered Tuna Carpaccio. Tasted real fresh & very flavorful. However, the main course was somewhat disappointing. I ordered the wagyu burger just out of curiosity to try it. The patty was good. But, overall the bun was too thick & I would taste more bread than other flavors. Salmon was cooked well but, again was missing the flavor. Also for such a high end place to charge extra to pay with credit card is a frowned upon!

I wanted to love this place. Service was great, they had several non alcoholic drink options which was nice. Started with the fried green tomato salad. It was ok, the batter was a tad gummy against the tomatoes and wished they had a sauce or something on them. Next the cobia crudo- it was lots of interesting flavors with you guessed it mushroom base which was super salty. Next the scallops, seasoned like Bbq spice with muahrooms again, sadly these were terrible. First one had sand and I was too deep into it to spit out. Second had sand I spit out third had 3 pieces of sad so large I spit those out to show the waiter. Every dish had mushrooms which seemed odd to me. Last was the duck and mushroom ragu over grits with cheese curds. Very rich sauce, good flavor. What surprised me was after I told my waiter there was sand in my scallops and even showed him the pieces I’d pulled out. They left it on my bill. I didn’t wanna make a fuss, but it was really surprised that they didn’t just remove it after something like that. :/

One of my favorite Tampa staples! Their burger and scallops are my tops. Great service always and love date nights here.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at this restaurant, and we had an unforgettable evening. From the drinks expertly mixed at the bar to the delicious food, everything was top-notch. The lamb was especially flavorful, and we finished the meal with a delightful dessert. The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic dinner, with a warm and inviting ambiance. Our server was outstanding—knowledgeable about the menu and provided great suggestions. We truly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend it for a special occasion or romantic night out.

My new favorite restaurant in Tampa. Their cocktail menu looked OUTSTANDING and I was so happy that they have plant based options.

Google
A consistent best restaurant in Tampa and great location walkable in downtown near University of Tampa. Gary runs the bar and is super knowledgeable and helpful. Lovely spot with nice atmosphere and excellent food from Chef Owner Operator Mary and his Business Partner. Highly recommend this. Snag a seat at the bar or book in advance for the dining room and enjoy an elevated experience.

Google
Mise En Place absolutely exceeded our expectations. Service was great, food was incredible. My husband is vegan and he was accommodated with no problem. The (I think off menu) edamame dumplings were lovely, and both entrees (tofu and scallops) were really delicious. Perfectly seasoned and super flavorful. We will definitely be back!

Me & my husband drove over from Orlando to enjoy a wonderful anniversary dinner! The food was phenomenal, the presentation and flavors were outstanding. The ambiance was inviting and relaxing. & the staff were so welcoming. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner last weekend while in town. Restaurant is very sleek with an open concept. Service was impeccable. Our waitress was very sweet, gave us time to overlook the menu, helped us make choices and answered any questions we had. We started with the cobia crudo which was plated in a deconstructed manner that was unique. We all had a tough time choosing our entrees because they all sounded so delicious. I ordered the duck breast because it was out of the ordinary and sounded delish! My fiancé got the pecan crusted lamb chops and my bestie order the filet. We were interested in the scallops but no one ordered them so we got them as an appetizer to try. For dessert we shared the guava panna cotta. It was light and refreshing with a granola topping. We all enjoyed the evening and will definitely circle back another time!

Yelp
2.5 stars. The food would rank 3 in my opinion, but the service was hard to swallow. To start, they sat us in a very weird place, at the back of the restaurant, completely isolated. No one spoke to us for at least 10 minutes until we finally asked if we could move. Once we moved, the ambiance was better but the service continued to be inconsistent. For example, my husband ordered the "haiku" drink. It comes in an actual bowl. The waitress didn't warn us that it would be coming in a bowl. She just set it on our table, along with our appetizers. We, thinking it was a sauce, were dipping our bread in it! And no one said a word. Even when we asked where our drink was, they still didn't say anything. Very avoidable with some basic communication. The food was fine- but I don't get the hype. The Brussel sprouts weren't the crispy deliciousness you usually expect from a place like this. The rest of the dishes were forgettable. Nothing blew me away. The s'mores dessert tart felt like it should have been warm, but was served mostly room temp. Overall, the attention to detail just isn't there. The staff were nice but rather spacey, and the food was good but not great. If you're thinking about going, try On Swann or Edison instead. They're a similar price point with excellent food, service and ambiance.

Yelp
Good place to come for an intimate celebration or quiet date night. Ambience was understated, reserved. Quiet luxury vibes. The service was likewise high quality and present, not overbearing or simpering. Husband had two cocktails, the Haiku and a buffalo trace old fashioned. As to the Haiku he just kept saying "it's not bad... just odd." It was served in a small bowl of a dish rather than a cup, like one would sip ramen broth (the dish for which the drink is modeled and inspired). The old fashioned was a solid, good pour, stout without the burn, exactly what you hope for in a smooth bourbon drink. I had the Sober-Roni, and it was delightful. Actually tasted like what I wish all Negronis actually tasted like- I do wish there was a way to add dryness without alcohol but that's an ongoing search, and Mise en Place answered it well; 9/ 10 recommend. First thing, offered an amuse bouche of cold, seared endive. Bitter but well prepared and accompanied by a creamy blue cheese aioli. The combo was pleasant and the blue cheese offset the natural bitterness quite well. Next up, we ordered the Cobia Crudo. I did love this and the flavors were outstanding! The tostones were a little soft rather than crisp but otherwise a great start to the night. I also tried their squash and crab meat bisque. Smelled beautifully of curry and had a rich, spicy flavor that packed all the heat of a seafood bisque with none of the fishy flavor. Probably my favorite dish of the evening. For mains. I selected the venison loin. The meat was the star of this dish and cooked to juicy perfection. The hominy, however, had an unpleasant flavor that I unfortunately could not get past and did not enjoy at all. A complete shame. I thought it might be my palate since I am pregnant and that can change your taste (a weird but true side effect!), however, my husband said it wasn't to his preference either. Bitter and smoky and just a lingering... stale taste after that. I was disappointed but I don't know if it's just my palate being unrefined or if there was something off about the hominy. Either way not the fault of the restaurant, just not for us. My husband ordered the lamb chops with Amish cheddar chili grits and a cayenne buttermilk onion... donut (lol!) and it was fantastic. Those grits were creamy and perfect and the lamb was tender. He was extremely happy with his dish and I was jealous ha. Desserts: guava panna cotta and lemon ricotta cheesecake. Perfection on plates, we ate it all and scraped the plates clean. 10/10. Price tag under $300 for all. Overall it was a wonderful evening and dining experience. I would recommend trying Mise En Place, and we will likely return in the future for intimate evenings although it may be a while given my unfortunate luck with my main dish.

Yelp
Pros: * Beautiful restaurant * Top-notch service, very attentive servers * Mise burger FTW! (Take out the onion ring) * calamari was a safe appetizer choice. * Rosemary biscuits were yummy. Cons: * zucchini blossoms were very oily for my taste. * Ribye entree was meh. No seasoning what so ever on the steak, very chewy. Parsnips were very hard, i couldn't cut it with my cutlery. * Chocolate basque cheesecake dessert: MAJOR LETDOWN! I was looking forward to this dessert but it was quite dense. Basque cheesecake has been trending on social media as the best cheesecake for their luscious light and creamy filling. This was nothing like it. Overall, my friend and I spend over $170 for rather mediocre meal. Just come for the burger, omit the rest.

Yelp
I haven't been to a restaurant in awhile where everything was exactly perfect! OMG it was amazing, service, food cocktails it was an amazing dining experience and I would eat the fried green tomato salad everyday if I could. Soft shell crab is also a standout and just about any cocktail thanks to Gary the mixologist who is an expert! Get the Baseball Bat cocktail and thank me later! Incredible place in every way.

Yelp
A group of 4 gals were waiting for a table at Tori Bar and decided to get a drink at Mise En Place. We went on a Saturday evening and the hostess promptly informed us that the bar is first come first serve and he was just sitting a group of 4 to a table so we can take their spot. Gary, the bartender, was great in explaining the drinks and suggesting his favorites. I would definitely go back and check out the menu for dinner.

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant. We ate here a few years ago and for some reason have not been back until today. So glad we came back. The food is excellent. Be sure to check out my photos. They provide a delicious bread service for the table. We had the fried green tomato salad, the fried zucchini squash blossoms, the mushroom tartine, the burger and the veal chop. The veal was a special and it was in the top 3 veal dishes I have ever had in my life. For dessert we had the olive oil cake with sea salt olive oil ice cream Service was great.

Yelp
Overall, this place was nice and I enjoyed my experience. I've thing I especially liked was that it wasn't super loud and you could really enjoy and HEAR your own conversation. With that being said, I gave it 3 stars because the food was good but not exceptional, especially for the price. The cocktails were also good but definitely unusual. I also felt like the tables were way too close together. I could hear the entirety of the conversations on both my left and right side, which was kind of nice because it also inspired topics of conversation for us, but at the same time felt like an invasion of their privacy.

Yelp
Wonderful experience from the moment we walked in the door. The Matre'd acknowledged our request for a special table and made sure we got it. The service was great and the food extraordinary! I started with the foie Gras and my wife had the crudo. Both were fantastic but the best was the venison for my main course. It was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Desert was crème brûlée which was equally done to perfection. A great time and one of the best anywhere.

Yelp
Absolutely delighted to return to Mise en Place for the second time, and once again, it exceeded our expectations. This restaurant is truly exceptional. In my experience, it surpasses even some Michelin-starred establishments in the Tampa Bay area. Mise en Place is a hidden gem that deserves more recognition. If you're an adventurous foodie, this is your haven. Every item on the menu is a masterpiece, and I've yet to encounter a single disappointing dish. The flavors are some of the most intriguing and palate-pleasing I've ever encountered, igniting a delightful symphony in your taste buds. Mise en Place is an extraordinary culinary experience that every food enthusiast should savor.

Yelp
Came here for date night and I loved the vibe and amazing service! Deff top 5 date spot. Love that it's not a chain and has great cocktails and a great selection of wine. Yelp
A few things...wine list is fantastic!!! They are very accommodating for allergies. The food is always spot on and amazing. SAVE room for some of the best dessert you'll ever have.

Yelp
Came here for dinner conference had the salmon, it was fantastic the sauce the placed on the bed of vegetables was excellent. The service was ok can't expect much when you're doing a business dinner with 20 people there. The ambiance was ok not the greatest layout for some reason the seating and tables seemed off hard to explain. But the food was ok nothing out of this world the chocolate no flour cake was a little gritty wish I would have ordered the crème brûlée

Yelp
My wife and I come to Mise maybe twice a year for a special occasion but I haven't reviewed since 2017. Nothing has changed about my opinion except how much of a crime it is that this place doesn't have at least a 4.5 star rating. I get you'll always have someone who has a bad day and maintaining a 5-star rating is really difficult, but 4 stars is a travesty. The only change, besides their seasonal menu changes, has been the ambiance as the restaurant was redesigned in the past few years. It is gorgeous and romantic and you'll love it. I started with a gin drink that was basically a gin old fashioned. Then I had a second. I loved it. I would have had more but this is Mise and the drinks can be pricey. However, it was a perfectly made old fashioned even with gin. We started with the LA1 pizza, hold the sausage. Never would have expected a French restaurant in Tampa to make an excellent pizza but they did. Perfect crust. Perfect sauce. The goat cheese (or was it gorgonzola) was different but delicious. I then got their chicken entree. I've never gotten chicken here before-usually duck or fish and occasionally steak-but it looked really good and I've gotten duck like half a dozen times. Waiter said he would never recommend chicken over duck anywhere he has ever worked but he recommends the chicken here all the time. Anyway, he was right. Cooked perfectly, juicy and a bit crisp on the outside, and the veggies and sauce it came with complimented the dish perfectly. The chefs here are artists. The meals always amazing. Service was fantastic. There is never anything to complain about here. Yes, some meals have been less amazing than others, but this one was not one of those. This one was perfect. We will continue coming back.

Jenna H.

Yelp
Nothing but nice things to say about the place. Wait staff was so so so friendly. Food was incredible. I wasn't a fan of the bread they brought out. But it was free so I'm not complaining. My duck was perfection. Parking is a little hard to find, and you have to pay to park. But, it was my first time here so experience, food, and wait staff all get a 10/10

Yelp
This was my first time here and it's definitely worth the hype I've heard throughout the years. Everything was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is so elegant. I absolutely love the vibe with the dim lighting and the intimate setting as soon as you walk in. I started with the grilled little gem Caesar salad. This isn't your average Caesar salad as it comes in two wedge slices, red onion and salsa verde which made it very unique but flavorful. However, I was taken back by the white anchovy that was hidden so well I didn't realize it until it caught me by surprise in one of my bites. They also start you off with amazing bread service that comes with three different types one being a fluffy biscuit and a delicious green gazpacho dipping sauce! The cobia crudo was amazing I wish I would've ordered more although it does come with 4 slices. The tostones were perfectly fried yet, not greasy at all. I was surprised buy this dish due to the many flavors it had. Their short rib burger was also really good. I ended the visit with their Affogato and it was probably one of the best ones I've had. It comes with gelato, Kahwa espresso with a hazelnut syrup drizzled on top. Our server was kind enough to make sure that every dish was split in half as I was sharing it with my friend since we weren't too hungry yet left very full and satisfied. The only thing I didn't like was their sober Ricky Mocktail however, I did appreciate that they have three separate, mock tails available. Everything came out very quick and it was so delicious. I definitely can't wait to come back here.

Yelp
Consistently among the best restaurants in Florida. Chef Marty, Maryann and the team have been feeding me from Mise en Place for 25 years. Great food, wine, cocktails and service. Marty was the first local chef to open a gourmet chef:driven market & eatery but it was too early for Tampa. The two have been a positive force for local, small businesses, helping their employees grow their careers into other roles and likely far more positive things to recount here. Highly recommend! Located across the street from University of Tampa.
google avatar

Corey R.

Yelp
Drinks were superb loved how unique they were. The bread before dinner was a great start as well. Our meals varied from amazing to okay but nothing was bad. My rice noodle dish was the best of the table and the desserts were disappointing.
google avatar

Frank S.

Yelp
Wonderful venue. I had the soft shell crab and capellini. Others had tack of lamb and branzino. 5 star all around. Easy to have a table discussion without a lot of noise. Check it out.
google avatar

Elle E.

Yelp
Excellent service and overall ambiance. Expansive menu, with as many starters/appetizers as main courses. Was super excited about the zucchini blossom starter, as it is not often you find them on a menu. The delicate flavor of the zucchini blossoms were lost in the seasoned ricotta and heavy batter...so probably would not order that dish again. The tagliatelle special was well executed, with perfectly al dente pasta. Wine selection by the glass was relatively limited for the reds...could benefit from the addition of a Napa cab.
google avatar

Sebastian N.

Yelp
I've only been to Mise En Place once, but it left a lasting impression. The overall experience was solid, with attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere. And let's not forget about the food--absolutely delicious. Each dish was carefully crafted with attention to detail, showcasing the chef's skill and creativity. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience with top-notch cuisine, Mise En Place is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Horrible!!!! Don't believe what the ads say ... food is awful & so is the service Better off going to MacDonalds
google avatar

Martha P.

Yelp
Dined here several times pre-pandemic and loved the cuisine and experience. Recently brought beloved family from out of state here for an intimate dinner and was quite disappointed. Server was initially warm but appeared to be irritated when asked to repeat specials believed to be of interest to my husband with hearing impairment (which was disclosed with my request). Entrees for all were lukewarm, at best, and the duck ordered medium was quite undercooked. In the midst of our disappointing evening we witnessed the chef personally delivering the meal and overtly pandering to previous customers and their guests at an adjacent table. Thankfully there are many extraordinary restaurants in this area that exceed expectations and are not endeared to a select few... After this experience we have no plans to return.

Yelp
I ordered a short rib burger, and it was literally just a normal hamburger... otherwise all is good

Yelp
#599(!) Mise en Place is Best fine dining restaurant in Tampa. Period. Not a chain. A curated seasonal menu. Superb wine list and killer cocktails. And thoughtful plant based menu options. My fiance and I have had every type of food from vegan to steak and every single time has been amazing. When my fiance indulges himself and has a steak, Mise has never disappointed and he considers Mise at the top. When people think of steakhouses in Tampa, people usually mention Berns - well the older crowd mentions Berns. It's so old and stuffy there! Of course Berns has a good wine menu but their menu is boring. The chef at Mise is not lazy and constantly changes the menu. Whether it's your date or business associate, they will be impressed. If youre looking to celebrate a special occasion, I always highly recommend Mise.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
Honestly, it wasn't bad, just not great. It seemed that any dish that was very good was too small for the price. My dish was ok in price for the size, but too bland. We did appreciate the vegan options though, since one of the group members had a dairy allergy and ate mainly vegan meals. Service was decent. Our waiter was nice and attentive, but it did take a very long time to get our bills at the end (granted we did come with a large party and we all paid separate). The highlights of the meal were definitely the biscuits they serve for free and the vegan brownie for dessert. Overall, not a bad experience but I wouldn't say this should be your splurge place for going out and spending money.

Yelp
Mise En Place has been on my list for quiet some time and we finally had an opportunity to try it out for date night. The ambiance is beautiful and perfect for a dinner date night or adult's only dinner night. The service was expedient and friendly. We enjoyed the bread basket and didn't feel we needed to order any appetizers because we wanted to save room for dessert. As far as the entrees, I ordered the Caesar salad I'd rate a 3.5 out of 5 (not the best but good) and my husband ordered the steak and fries (same rating 3.5 of 5). The fries could have been cooked crispier, they were a bit soggy. The dessert was good, I wouldn't get the deconstructed cheesecake again however, the s'mores tart was good. I also loved the coffee/latte options from Kahwa. All in all, 4 of 5 stars but would order different items next time.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
I was very impressed with everything I tried! The highlights of the meal were the two appetizer specials, a delicious mushroom toast with whipped brie, Alabama bbq sauce, and crispy shallots, and the bourbon apple cider squash bisque with guacinale, candied hazelnuts, and cacao nibs. The cobia crudo with orange crema, spiced plantain chips, and pineapple was excellent too, a perfect tropical treat!

Dave B.

Yelp
It was our first time there and the food was delicious! The service was okay I guess..., it could've been better. I felt like our server was a little preoccupied. With a place like this, you'd think they'd acknowledge the occasion to why you're dining there. The food made up for the lack. The restaurant was cute. There was someone singing which gave the room a romantic ambiance. We ordered a bunch more but forgot to take a picture.

Yelp
Cornmeal Crusted Oysters 3.5-4/5 - Size wise, oysters shrink when cooked, so they turned out smaller for the price - just alright IMO and I'm obsessed with oysters! American Seared Red Snapper 4,5/5 - Snapper was delicately placed on a bed of beans, seared on the outside and was a chef's kiss because it was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside w/subtle ginger flavor. The plating was pretty! American White Cheddar Grits 5/5 - I have to say, surprisingly delicious and so creamy! This would be how I'd like my hubs to cook it at home for me, por favor! =) To drink, hubs ordered Mise Royale 4/5 - Hendricks Gin with Cucumber juice as the most potent flavor, pretty mellow yellow color with two huge square ice cubes! It was def. one of the pricest drinks! They served 3 different types of homemade breads with the circular ones that was the tastiest - pillowy and sprinkled with sesame seeds. They even served us amuse bouche - cucumber, melons and candied nuts in a delicate sauce - VERY good! Service was OK 3-3.5/5 because we sat at the bar & our bartender had many duties besides making drinks and taking our order, so I thought for the price point, it lacked the coziness since he was constantly making cocktails - it was noisy and not quite or as romantic and def. suggest reserving a table instead via OpenTable. The atmosphere is intimate with warm lights - highly recommend making a reservation due to limited seating. Parking is so easy in a harage & is only a couple blocks away!

Yelp
Food was great along with my old fashion drink. Atmosphere felt great and relaxing. Would highly recommend

Yelp
My husband took me here for my birthday and I was pleasantly surprised. The place is elegant and romantic, which I really enjoyed. The food was fantastic and found the menu to have a good variety of light to hearty dishes. My only complaint has to do with an event that was going on next door at the theatre, where people were lining up against the window of the establishment. There were no curtains or blinds to avoid the distraction of people peering into the restaurant as we were dining. I was very surprised that there was nothing the staff could do, considering this is likely not the first time. I would come back here for the lunch menu or to celebrate a special occasion.

Yelp
A Tampa Treasure when it comes to finer dining! We had not been to Mise En as a couple since before the pandemic shut things down. Their remodel of the front gathering room is stunning! I want to book a party simply to enjoy that space. Tonight's service by Tom and Lee was excellent. We never wanted for anything. Our burrata and beet salad was exquisite! A combination of flavors that were sweet & salty. The kitchen is doing a great job with every dish. Spatchlock chicken with mushrooms, asparagus and fingerling potatoes was my wonderful meal. My husband loved his duck with Brussels sprouts and a sweet potato, mushroom pocket of goodness.

Yelp
It was a great place to celebrate our 22nd anniversary, but I could go there any day of the week. From the amazing specials and innovative menu, to fresh bartender creations, to the incredible service it will not disappoint. Vinnie our server was excellent and he was surrounded by an incredible team. The ambiance is classy and different seating options gives you choices. Everyone helps out, and it is deserving of its Michelin rating. You will not have a bad meal and you will not regret a penny spent here!

Yelp
Service and Food was great. Absolutely love this place. Smaller place with good vibes.

Yelp
Probably one of the best restaurants I've been to in Tampa. The ambiance is such a romantic place. The Maitre'd David was amazing and even reserved a parking spot for my date. Once we got to our table, we were greeted with an amazing server who helped us pick great drinks. For starters, we had a seared pork belly with polenta & jelly glaze which was incredible, so moist & tender. Then I got the skirt steak frites while my date got the ribeye. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the Ribeye more while my date enjoyed the skirt steak. With 2 drinks and a bottle wine was $178 not including tip which was a great deal for such an amazing meal. I would definitely go back again!

Yelp
Repeat customers. We dined in after the renovation and the building looks great inside. Its bright and open unlike how it was before. We had the chance to grab street parking for free, but there is a parking garage right across the street that you can park at as well. We were seated promptly and greeted immediately which was great. Our waiter was very helpful in helping me find what was gluten free or what could be modified to be gluten free. All of the food quality remains the same which is great. My only complaint is service was so slow, but they did have a large party In the private dining room. We had the duck which was cooked perfectly. The cold hammachi was interesting and plated beautifully. Overall, I love this place for a romantic date night. The menu is very eclectic and you won't find one like it anywhere else in Tampa.

Yelp
Well, hate to write up a bad review on a restaurant that used to be one of our favs, but it's now deserving of such. Wife and I went for our 25th anniversary 2 years ago and waited an hour past our reservation time before getting up from the bar and leaving. No idea why that happened, but it did. Fast forward to now - we made a resv on thurs for Fri night and they had tons of openings - 1st sign ignored. Upon arriving for dinner we noticed that the decor had been updated and was quite nice. We were immediately sat and had a very attentive waiter get us drinks and bread. They were out of my 1st two bourbon selections, so I went with the bartenders recommendation. A 25$ bourbon, which was quite good. Then on to the app - zucchini blossoms. Wow, they nailed it and they were outstanding! Perfectly fried with ricotta stuffing and a solid aioli. Little did we know that this was the highlight of the evening. On to the mains - wife had scallops and I had the duck. Sadly the scallops had a fishy smell and were tough to cut. She ate one bite and pushed the plate away. My duck suffered from being tough as well, and I ate about 2 bites and decided to get the bill. No-one came to ask why we didn't eat any of our food. we paid the 150$ and left. I'm not a fan of returning food, so we'll just avoid this establishment from now on. Sad, as this was a go to for us for many, many years.

Yelp
First time visiting and will definitely be the last. We ordered oysters, calamari, and the softshell crab for appetizers. For the main courses, seared scallops and the fresh fish, which was grouper. The oysters were awesome, but that's where we stop. Everything else was very bland, with little to no seasoning. The calamari had no flavor at all, and the sauce that it came with was not impressive either. The crab was mediocre as well, and again not much flavor. The scallops were pan seared, and again very underwhelming. Lastly the grouper. It was the dryest fish dinner I have ever had. I had to send it back. I told them it was terrible and I couldn't eat it. They did offer me another item from the menu, or another fish. I opted for another grouper. Bad choice. No flavor, moist this time, but the breading was just not very good. I left most of my dinner uneaten. The owner did come over and apologize as well as buy me a drink which was the least they could have done. When the only item that we enjoyed is delivered raw, a lot of work needs to be done for the food that is cooked.

Yelp
Perfect date night spot! I loved how detailed the menu is. Not to mention the specials of the day, which I actually went with. I was one of the last tables to be seated for the night, and felt bad the chef had to ask what we wanted to order, as I'm sure he wanted to get home.

Yelp
I wanted to love it. Alas, I did not. Very disappointing. The duck was raw, though ordered medium rare...it was cold...and glaringly undercooked. The hanger steak was inedible...literally could not chew it...had to spit it into the napkin. The venison was ok. Melissa was lovely. Her assistant, Chris, was wonderful. The ambience was perfect. Unfortunately, the food was bad...so terribly bad.

Yelp
Delicious food, attentive service, calm up-scale ambiance. We had a great experience. I'd recommend this for a date or for groups. We drank delicious wine.

Yelp
In general I heard Mise was a hard-to-get reservation for a high-end meal. Reservations were tough to get, but the place was half empty when we arrived, and filled with seniors and business people. The food wasn't bad, just wasn't memorable. And the servers weren't bad, but the service wasn't giving high-end vibes. If someone really wanted to go I'd go again with them but I wouldn't go of my own accord.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dining experience here for my birthday. My boyfriend and I follow the Michelin guide around tampa & other cities we visit and Mise En Place has by far been the best we've been to in Florida. Duck was cooked beautifuly, service was amazing and ambiance was delightful.

Yelp
Very, very nice ambiance. I have lived in Tampa my whole life and this was the 1st time we have tried it. Had high expectations being that they have been around so long. Service was great and attentive. Had the Fried green tomato (per server recommendation). More arugula than tomato. The mushroom bruschetta was good but not alot of mushroom. Had the lamb chops and they were very underwhelming. I would try them again only because even the best have an off day. I hope that is the case. Until the next episode.

Yelp
As a patron of this restaurant for many of years. I have nothing to say poorly about this restaurants food, chefs, or waiters/waitresses. We are all human and make mistakes, but sometimes we should recognize that. The host walking into the restaurant did not only forget that, but enjoyed the fact of proving us wrong. We were looking forward to seeing Mr. Bocelli at Amelie arena. So we made a quick reservation at 5:15 to one of our favorite restaurants. We made the mistake of booking it on the first available date and thought we were locked in. So we showed up to an empty restaurant. Looking for our seats. The "host" or whatever that means in todays society showed a sincere lack of hospitality. Instead of politely saying we might have booked the wrong date, or trying to accommodate us in an empty restaurant. We felt like strangers in a world we weren't accepted in. We felt like this man just wanted us out and nothing in the past ever mattered. We felt like mise en place was not our place. When I do get time, I'll make sure to send him a copy of how to win friends and influence people, because this host was more in the manner of how to lose friends and enjoy the fact that people are wrong.

Yelp
Previously I worked nearby and grabbed Mis En Place for lunch frequently. Recently I decided to try them for dinner and I can't say enough positive things. The specialty cocktails we ordered were all great. The nice thing with Mis is they use quality liquor in all the cocktails so the price feels justified. We started with the charcuterie and cheese board and I was blown away. I have had boards at a number of Tampa restaurants and this was one of the only boards that's had a good balance between variety and serving size of cheese. All the meats and cheeses were nicely presented and large enough servings to really enjoy the different types. For the main course I had the grilled salmon and I was blown away with how great the meal was. Every part of the meal complimented the other and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The Meyer lemon ravioli that came with the salmon were out of this world good! I would order the salmon again just for the ravioli. The presentation was beautiful and the food was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The burger was also fantastic. They don't just serve you a basic burger they have taken the time to elevate the simple condiments and additions to make the burger stand out as something nicer than most restaurants can deliver. Dinner at Mis En Place exceeded all my expectations. This isn't necessarily a cheap meal out but with the recent renovation that has transformed the inside into an airy and modern space this doesn't feel like your grandparents type of restaurant out. It's atmosphere now appeals to a younger audience and their food is sure to impress anyone.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting this restaurant and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by a gracious host and seated promptly. Our server, Roxanne took amazing care of us. We started with two starters, the fried green tomato salad and the shrimp kimchi pancake. To. Die. For. Roxanne even gave us an extra splash of Spanish wine to try. The lamb chops by far was my favorite dish of the night. Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
This dining experience was almost flawless. The food was wonderful, great ambiance, cocktails were on FIRE, service was excellent. The most memorable part of our order for me was the fried green tomatoes dish. YUM! I will absolutely be back. I will say the staff at the door should be careful about how they first greet entering guests. There was a moment where I felt a bit unwelcome, but the same person was very nice on our way out so maybe we just caught him at an awkward moment. Everyone's human.

Yelp
Mise en Place is an upscale well-known popular French & American established staple restaurant that's been around since 1986, off Kennedy across from University of Tampa in South Tampa, next to Downtown Tampa. At night, Mise en Place transforms into an elegant, understated dining destination with an ever-changing, seasonal menu that offers adventurous yet meticulously crafted modern French & American cuisine. Inspired by both the seasons and the whim of chef Marty Blitz, the menu changes every week, save for staples like the chicken liver pâté and the rack of lamb. Mise en Place offers long list of boutique wines and specialty cocktails further demonstrate the intelligence and imagination that go into the crafting of the menu. The Grilled Salmon came harissa crusted, with French green lentils, sweet potato, wilted greens, and topped with green apple curry vinaigrette. 9/10 The Cappelini seafood pasta came with bay scallops, crab, rock shrimp, saffron leak fondue, & cofit grape tomatoes. 10/10 For dessert, the flourless chocolate coconut cake came with Chantilly, candied almonds, & passion fruit rum jam. 9/10 Our service was top notch, everything tasted great, and the dining atmosphere was very nice and upscale. I came for a wine pairing a long time ago before I started writing reviews on yelp and haven't been back here in awhile. Previously, Mise en Place served mostly only French traditional dishes like frog legs, snails, and foie gras which I'm not a huge fan of but I'm glad to see that they've transitioned to seasonal menus with some more modern & American flair which gives me a lot more options because I'm not a huge fan of a lot of traditional French food. If you're in the downtown Tampa area and looking for upscale modern & French inspired dining, this is the go-to spot! I look forward to coming back again to try more off their menu soon!
