"Michelin-starred chefs Ho Chee Boon and Hideki Hiwatashi opened the anticipated Molihua in the Medical Center’s Blossom Hotel. Molihua, which means “jasmine” in Mandarin, brings contemporary Japanese cuisine, dim sum, and sweets to the community. The restaurant’s interior, inspired by the jasmine flower, provides a soothing, contemporary aura, and dishes such as the Japanese A5 wagyu skewer, Aburi nigiri moriawase (grilled, flame-seared sushi), and Molihua grilled duck and rice are among its early standouts." - Brittany Britto Garley, Kayla Stewart

Came here to eat with friends and the staff were so friendly and welcoming! They helped with the menu and gave wonderful suggestions to choose from. The food had unique assortments that just melts with flavor. Amazing. Drinks and desert were just as unique and pretty as well! Atmosphere was a vibe too, 10/10!

Dined in on a Saturday at 6:45 pm for a party of two and was seated immediately by the sushi bar. It’s a very dark restaurant, not much lighting, needs more decorations. We enjoyed everything we ordered! The chefs know what they are doing! We ordered: Hamachi crudo: hamachi melted in our mouths, and the blueberries on top was a nice touch versus jalapeño slices! Crispy temaki salmon tartare: least favorite dish, beds more umami Crispy truffle puff: very soft mochi balls! The truffle flavor could have been stronger Chicken wing mochi karaage: this was so good, presentation could be better, it comes in a brown togo box, a nice round hybrid bowl plate could work better Otoro: buttery goodness and it was on top of ice so it was super chilled Unagi: kind of dry but good flavors Naruto: itty bitty four pieces of goodness XO hand pulled noodles: our favorite dish! Noodles were so soft and chewy! Chilean sea bass: very good flavors Garlic butter shoyo fried rice: the best garlic rice we’ve had! Coconut sago: needs more sweetness, and it was a tad too thick Chocolate and salted caramel cake: the cake was very dry

This amazing location reopened today, August 19, 2024 as a breakfast restaurant. OMG! The transformation was well worth the wait. The amazing staff Jennifer, August, and Chef Mohammmed, made this breakfast experience the best one ever. The ambience was both relaxing as well as romantic. From the soft pink flowers to the bold hunter green coffee cups, it is masculine and feminine energy entwined. Jennifer was our server and she was amazing. She was knowledgeable of our food choices as well as intuitive to what we would like. August greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile. He made constant contact to ensure we were enjoying our experience. Chef Mohammed was a genius in the kitchen. He hit every pallet from sweet to salty, heavy to light and literally made our taste buds burst. Although this location is inside the Blossom hotel, I am sure it is a gem in the city of Houston.

Came on a weekday for a birthday celebration. It wasn't too busy, but service was not attentive at all. We started off extremely happy and pleased. The hot dishes (photo) were very good. However, the sashimi/nigiri was so bland, no flavor at all. And the fish itself, some were fresh, some wasn't so much. However, the most unpleasant thing was that we ordered some nigiri flights. Some of the fish on the flight were out, and they did not even care to tell us, but just replaced them with some random other pieces. They replaced otoro, a yummy tasty fatty tuna, with mackerel (?) The replacement does not add up in flavor nor price point, and they didn't even ask if we were okay with that replacement or if we wanted to order something else. When asked, the server just simply, oh, they were out of that. No apologies, no nothing.

I had been anticipating dining at this restaurant ever since they announced its opening and I had high expectations. Sadly, I was a bit underwhelmed. First off, the food portions are laughably TINY for the high price that you pay. They should definitely work on portioning out the food so it’s a decent size. They also need to work on training the servers on having more of a fine dining approach and anticipating their guests. The dinner did not flow very well because of the server’s lack of attention to detail. No excuse because there were only 2 other tables there. There was also no ambience at all. This restaurant has a lot of potential. I hope they tighten things up in the future.

Yikes. Save your money. Much One of the most disastrous meals, or attempted meals I have had in a long time. MUCH better dim sum and sushi in this town. Once you find the restaurant which is hidden behind a cheeky single panel door, you enter an extremely dark room with no ambiance. 2 servers and 2 sushi chefs on a Tuesday with a pretty full dining room of large 6+person reservations. They require a $75 per person reservation hold as well. Undertrained server with the worst breath...a good manager should have said something to him. He could not tell us about the items we asked about. We did not get the first 3 items we ordered and after 2 hours and multiple chats with a manager and host, we asked for our check. They did comp the whole meal, since we only got one rice dish and 2 appetizers for 3 people. The food we did have was mediocre. The sashimi did not seem fresh and was lightly seared to hide that. When we received the Crab and caviar rice pot, the service quickly opened it and stirred it up, making it seem they did not have much crab or caviar as we searched for it in the dish after he plopped spoonful's in dishes for us. It was weird. He should've asked to serve us and at least let us see the $30 rice dish. Other tables around us were complaining as well. We watched an 8 top get one sushi roll at a time delivered to the table. I hear the gentlemen tell his dining companions "this is not typical food or service for Houston". Sad that this Michelin star chef we were excited for, has this untrained staff and lackluster atmosphere representing him. Also, there is no seating at the bar because they built the bar too high for ADA standards so they cant use it until the fix that. It was also difficult to watch a couple walk in with a service dog and get crammed into a 2 top right next to an 8 top with no room for the dog or the guest. Yes, it is early but I can't imagine this place improving much unless they do some major training.

We had an amazing time at Molihua at the New Blossom Hotel. Great atmosphere and service. We loved the menu curated by Michelin starred rated Chef Ho Boon and look forward to coming back again soon. Reservations do fill up quickly so would advise to book early.

We had such an incredible dining experience at Molihua and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since we went a few weeks ago. There are several items on the menu that I would not have necessarily thought or known to order, but we were in a group of 6 and so when they were ordered and I had the opportunity to taste them my palette was overjoyed. Crispy Temaki Tartare is so refreshing! The Crispy Truffle Puff feels like a warm hug and happiness. The wagyu roll was beyond all my expectations. The wild mushroom and balck truffle rice is so delicious

Yelp
I debated really hard to whether to give 2 or 3 stars. It was nicely designed and spacious restaurant. It was chill on a week day and this restaurant gave a bit of speakeasy vibe, located in 2nd floor of blossom hotel. We've had variety of sushi, moriawase, hamachi crudo, wild mushroom and truffle rice, chicken mochi karaage. Overall, I don't think the quality of food was fresh. The botan ebi was fishy and chicken also didn't smell/tasted not as fresh. I did not appreciate how they served chicken kochi karaage in to go container, because it's hard to clean after the rice crispy part of the dish (never seen a fine dining place serve food in to go box). The waiter didn't seem to know much about sushi in general which I feel like they should have trained employees with information. Please note that it will take AWHILE to get your dish regardless of how little people there are in the restaurant. Overall experience was speechless and it wasn't a cheap meal either. It's one of those place that needs a lot of improvement for what is being charged.

Yelp
Molihua is a great addition to Houston's sushi scene. We loved that the menu had multiple vegetarian options all labeled with a nice (v) to make it easy to decide what to get. The service was exceptional and ambiance was upscale. The booths located along the walls of the restaurant have additional lighting on them but the tables were very dimly lit. We let our server know that we are vegetarian and she helped explain the menu. We tried all of the vegetarian items except the shishito peppers karage which they were out of. Overall everything was delicious and we liked the unique options that were available for vegetarians. Edamame - tasty appetizer that comes with a unique spicy sauce Kyoto miso - this soup comes in a cup instead of a bowl and should be drunken instead of eaten. Great flavor Burgundy truffle - This dish wasn't labeled as vegetarian but was one of our favorites! A crispy truffle with a unique stuffing inside. Seaweed garden salad - This was just a regular garden salad, if you're looking for more unique dishes would skip this. Potato and egg sando - This dish also wasn't labeled as vegetarian on the menu. This is a potato egg sandwich on milk bread, which was tasty but the milk bread tasted dry crunchy kakiage - The crunch flavor of the sushi made the dish unique asparagus katsu - also tasty but less of a unique taste than the kakiage vegetable and mushroom tempura - came with onion, lotus root, and asparagus wild mushroom and black truffle rice - definitely the best item we tried! Very flavorful rice, would definitely recommend trying this one Grilled vegetable - this is actually just grilled broccolini I wish there was a better parking option. We read a few reviews that said valet was just as expensive as self-parking ($25!!), so we parked in the nearby MD Anderson garage and just walked over.

Yelp
This place is designed to be a nice date night spot - most things come in two, so eating here with a family or an odd number may get tricky at times. I thought the food was alright considering the price. As some other people have mentioned, there are other places in Houston with a similar vibe, price, but have better food. I personally think a similar place that does it better is Uchi/Uchiko. While I feel like there isn't a whole lot about Molihua that stands out, I did really enjoy the Chicken Wing Mochi Karaage - it's tender, tasty, and unique. The Pumpkin Puffs also deserve a unique shoutout. I personally wouldn't recommend the Molihua Grilled Duck and Rice. It's basically really expensive fried rice, and I couldn't even locate any significant pieces of duck. And while tasty, the Chicken Yakitori was on the drier side. The interior is upscale, dimly lit, and clean. Service is good with fresh, hot towels served at the beginning of the meal. Molihua is located on the 2nd floor of Blossom Hotel - most people either valet or self park. Restaurant does not validate.

Yelp
Overall enjoyed coming here! It feels like a speakeasy since it's hidden in a hotel and it looks like a completely different vibe inside the restaurant. The ambiance and decor is beautiful! The service was also attentive, friendly and good. The food was tasty as well. We ordered an assortment of food, including various nigiri, apps like chicken wings and tuna with truffle, and shrimp with xo sauce and hand pulled noodles. All were delicious! Keep in mind that it is valet but the restaurant validated parking!

Yelp

Yelp
Overpriced, average food and don't even get me started on the parking. The food was average at best...we got the XO hand pulled noodles, the grilled duck and rice, and the soft shell crab and mango roll. I wasn't too impressed with any of the dishes. The sushi wasn't that great either. We ended up getting 2 desserts, which were each $18/dish. We got the chocolate cake and the passion fruit dessert. The passion fruit dessert was def the better of the 2. The chocolate cake was literally 2 bites and was very dry. Parking is terrible with limited options. They offer valet for $45 and self parking for $35. The restaurant says they will only validate $5. We decided to park in one of the TMC garages and paid about $10 and walked across the street to the hotel. We won't be back. The price tag and the food weren't worth it, esp with the parking.

Yelp
Had a lovely happy birthday dinner at MoLiHua. This restaurant has so many things going for it. First, the food is delicious and so interesting. The Pumpkin Puff and Gyoza Black Wing really blew me away. Have never had anything like it. We also really enjoyed the Hamachi Crudo, Shishitos, the Wagyu roll and Hamachi roll, the Hand Pulled Noodles and Duck and Rice. Desserts were super creative and yummy. I also really liked the Shiso Sake cocktail. The food alone is 5+ stars. Now, there were a few things I didn't love- the location is very random (odd area and in a quiet hotel) and the hotel front desk staff were super unfriendly. Valet and self parking were both $15 (but valet was very friendly and fast). For a Friday night the restaurant was pretty empty and quiet. I worry this may affect them. Service was up and down. Waiter was ok- was nice, he poured a taste of champagne to celebrate my birthday but he only poured for me and not my 3 friends (it was a small amount). So I toasted myself lol. Who I think was the Manager was excellent though. Very attentive and good personality. Also came through with the birthday candle in the dessert after it was missed initially. So many good things going but a few areas they can hopefully work toward.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service. Excellent Japanese and Asian fusion menu. I enjoyed our date night dinner here! Give it a try! They are located on the second floor of Blossom Hotel in the Houston Medical Center. PS... hotel valet is a little disorganized, don't let it ruin your mood.

Yelp
I loved the restaurant. The service was very good. Quiet. Food was beautiful and tasted good. I would recommend to try aburi nigiri and coconut tapioca dessert. The only downside to this place is that parking is very easy. I parked myself in the hotel- the pass is so narrow and not cheap ($25 for 2.5 hours)

Joel G.

Yelp
The food is just ok. If you compare it to a Katami or other fine Japanese restaurants in town it's not up there. The portions are small and expensive..The restaurant is in the Blossom Hotel. As we arrived we valet parked. Inside the lobbyI asked if the restaurant validated, was told it would be $5 for first two hours. When leaving to pay for parking at the desk as instructed the clerk said first it was $27 and then $35. Bottom line, the whole experience was below par. We never received one of our choices. The restaurant quickly removed it from our bill.

Yelp
I wish I could give it a better review. I enjoyed the ambiance, décor and music when you first walk in. The place still has that new smell. The service was good, our server was nice and pleasant. Also, it was a nice touch to offer us a glass of Champagne (US, not French). so all the first impressions checked good. Then the food came... 1/ The miso soup is actually served in a glass shot and will cost you $5.50 each. 2/ They don't let you keep a soy sauce jar on the table and because the soy sauce plate is so small (a one piece of roll will not fit in it), we had to have the servers to come by several times for more. 3/ Their main dish is named after the restaurant: Molihua (grilled duck and jasmine rice). This is actually just fried rice. If there was any duck in there, it was hiding pretty well. 4/ The seaweed salad ($14.00) had no seaweed at all, it's basically a very expensive side salad. I was so surprised that I asked the waiter is this was correct when they presented to me...unbelievable! Obviously this is a one time visit for me. This place will have a tough time getting a returning clientele. Most likely to be used by the hotel guests. Houston has great Japanese restaurants and you can't compete by offering OK food in portions that are small, expensive and calling dishes that are not what they are.

Jasmine R.

Yelp
Wait staff was not impressive. Very pretty atmosphere but the food was bland. Nigiri was the highlight of our meal. Everything else was subpar
