"If you live in the North End, Monica’s should be the place you hit up on a Tuesday night after a bad day at work when you just need a glass of red and a bowl of bolognese. It’s a tiny, brick-walled spot with pop art hanging above the tables and a menu that hits on just about everything. It’s also got a full liquor license, something that can be surprisingly hard to find in the North End, and which you’ll need after those really bad days at work." - dan secatore

"Trattoria di Monica is close to the perfect little neighborhood Italian restaurant - it’s just that the neighborhood it’s in happens to have a greater concentration of good Italian restaurants than anywhere else west of Milan. You can get a decent meal here anytime, but it’s particularly great for a late weeknight dinner, when it’s just you, a few other guests, and a bottle of red." - Dan Secatore

Really liked the vibe of this Italian restaurant. I ordered the fried calamari which was really crispy and for the main course I ordered the lobster pasta which was probably the best dish I could’ve ordered because I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, it was a bit tedious to break open the lobster shell but it was really delicious and definitely worth it. 10/10 for the presentation as well.

We came for dinner on a Tuesday evening with no reservation and were seated immediately (table for 2). Pretty atmosphere and delicious pasta. Slower service but still enjoyable.

Pasta was good, very fresh. Menu described fresh ricotta on top which solidified my choice. However, no ricotta. I was told it was a “typo” on the menu. Service was non existent. Waited 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge my presence at my table, and once my order was taken I didn’t see them again. The person who ran my food didn’t know what black pepper or chili flakes were, so that was a no go. Disappointing since the food was decent. Would not recommend.

I think this was the best meal for us in Boston. We went on a Sunday around 7pm without a reservation and were seated in 5 mins (I recommend getting a reservation if possible). The restaurant was very lively and our server gave us some good recommendations. The food was fresh and delicious. The drinks, entrees, dessert. Everything was perfect. It was a tight table but we kind of managed just fine. I really liked the espresso martini and the eggplant parm.

This is my favorite restaurant in the North e End. I know that's a matter of opinion but the brushetta was among the best I've had from a restaurant. Service was great and the Chicken Parm over penne was amazing. Calamari was also on point.

Wonderful atmosphere, food, and staff! The frutti di mare is perfect, just like my mom made with a simple red sauce and plenty of mussels, little necks, and shrimp! The ravioli are like pillows of cheese, and both meals were made with fresh homemade pasta - incredible!

Before I get to my review, I need to call out the amazing bartender & our server, Isabelle. She was fantastic! From great recommendations to fun conversation. She was a great addition to our overall experience! Now to the food...unbelievable! From the appetizer to the entrees, the best food of the trip. The Brushetta Burrata started it off a bang, literally. The flavors and texture just amazing. The to the entrees, at a quick glance we chose the Frutti di Mare, a classic. Then we added the Lobster Fettuccine. Little did we know, they would be huge! We paced ourselves, talking to a couple at the other corner of the bar. Nope, not enough room as we ended up taking half of each back to the hotel. If you're looking for a great place, independently owned with great people and life changing food...go to Monica's!
