The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei | Eater

"Fatty pork over rice is a splendid Taiwanese comfort dish and has become, over the years, the main draw at this quaint Taiwanese restaurant, an intentional flashback with lanterns and papered walls. It’s all small shared plates, and both the fried squid balls and white-cut chicken are lovely ways to start. There’s also creamy mapo tofu cooked with eggplant and sesame oil-laced chicken over sticky rice. [$$]" - Clarissa Wei

We came here on a Sunday for lunch and managed to get a table for 2 people. The menu offers a good selection of local dishes, alongside some recommendations. We had the thousand year egg, which was very rich and the right amount of spice, the sesame chicken, which was good but wish I knew it was cold and the mapo tofu which we really.enjoyed as it was less heavy than others we've had. The staff was polite and attentive. Overall, a good meal if you're in the area.

It has a low rating score but the food is top notch. Better than many highly ranked restaurants. Stand out dishes were the double thread ( sliced liver and kidney) with scallions, the braised pork rice( redefines pork umami), century egg in hot sauce ( my wife preferred it with sweet ginger), sauteed beans with deep fried intestines ( mouth feels was so good). Local draft beer paired well with the food. Only disappointment was the 3 cup chicken which though well caramelised lacked flavour( perhaps we were too full). Service was friendly and very personable. You can bring your own alcohol for a small charge. Caveat. This place only takes cash. Prices are highish for a sidewalk restaurant but taken into context, it's cheap for a Michelin quality meal.

Delicious and authentic Taiwanese Cuisine. Recommended to try Boiled chicken but needs to order in advance, Lu Rou Fan, oysters and boiled squid. Prior reservation is required. Only accepts cash.

A good choice when you are looking for authentically flavored Taiwanese cuisines. We started off with some side dishes, followed by impressive braised pork, braised beef tripe, steamed squid, stir fried pork liver, fried complex platter, and our favorite- boiled chicken. The texture and taste of the Boiled Chicken are amazing. Price is a bit on the high end though.

My Stove has been around for a long time but they have maintained their excellence. Every dish was great with the exception of the veggies which I found just average. My favorite dishes were the chicken, pork knuckle, shrimp. The spicy century eggs were the best I've ever had and when mixed in with a mouthful of the braised pork rice, is pure, creamy delight. The food is rich and flavourful. I wish there was something light and refreshing on the menu to reset the pallette, even a dish of pickled daikon radish would've been helpful. Amazing dinner and very affordable for this level of food.

Authentic and delicious! Must try the braised pork rice and the fried oysters vermicelli! Old school decor brings you back to the old days, the pace of serving is perfect and the portion is satisfying as well. Though if it’s kind of pricey, but still worth trying!

A very solid Taiwanese stir fry restaurant. We loved the three cup chicken, lu rou fan, fly's head and green beans with intestines. The flavours are on the strong side so pair very well with rice. Reservations are a must. Some dishes (sesame oil chicken rice) need to be reserved a day in advance so we didn't get to try them.

We had the sesame oil chicken, braised pork rice, long bean, and the oyster omelette. All was amazing except the long bean dish. The braised pork rice was definitely the star dish of this place (it was so good that we forgot to take a photo of it). Staff here were very friendly, although they seemed very confused when we asked for chilli. Definitely felt like homely food.
