Where To Eat Outside In Venice & Marina Del Rey Today

"Nueva took the place of beloved bottomless brunch destination Sunny Spot on Washington in Marina del Rey during the pandemic, but didn’t miss a beat. Their huge outdoor dining room is almost always full, with people looking for tacos, ceviches, and mezcal-based cocktails. Don’t worry, they’re doing brunch, too." - brett keating, james montgomery

Where To Eat Mexican Food Outside In LA

"Nueva took the place of beloved bottomless brunch destination Sunny Spot on Washington in Marina del Rey during the pandemic, and didn’t miss a beat in bringing back a spot that’s ideal for a boozy weekend situation. Their huge outdoor dining room is almost always full, with people looking for tacos, ceviches, and mezcal-based cocktails. They’re doing brunch with everything from cast-iron pancakes to ceviche, too. Reservations are encouraged." - brant cox

One of Venice’s Best Waterside Restaurants Gets a Big Summer Refresh - Eater LA

"Pier House has received a comprehensive redesign and menu revamp from Mike Dobson and Eric Bernek of the Venice Restaurant Group, adding a breezy, sunny new place for fresh seafood platters from chef Jennifer Corona. Though it’s been open continuously for the past year, the new menu items are just coming online, giving the restaurant a fresh reboot. Think whole grilled branzino with crispy chili and limes, raw Peruvian scallops, and blistered shishito peppers with black garlic aioli. The new interior design is an homage to the original Venice Pier of the early 1900s to the bustling area they’re trying to dub “Washington Square” at the end of Washington Boulevard." - Matthew Kang

Fun Venice Beach vibe with lots of outdoor seating and live music on Saturday. Dog-friendly, which was a big plus. Food was good, but service was off—they forgot our fries, brought the wrong ones, and we ended up canceling them. Parking is tough; there’s a pricey lot nearby or limited free street parking if you’re lucky. Fun place to enjoy some food, a drink and absorb the Venice Beach vibes + going on a beach walk right after, as the place it's pretty much on the beach.

Google
I had a nice vegan burrito here. It was a mixture of rice, black beans, tomato, zucchini, avocado, and with green mild and tasty salsa. The tortillas are good here. Even the small corn ones are full of flavor, so you can eat them without anything, which is kind of rare. I can't wait to try their vegan burger, pineapple rice and pasta. See you soon. Nice staff.

Google
The food, service and atmosphere are fantastic! Highly recommend the Kimchi Furikake Waffle Cones with Ahi Poke; incredibly delicious. The Bang Bang Shrimp and the Pork Tostadas were also good. The staff are an amazing team. Will definitely go back!

Google
We came here the other week and really enjoyed our burgers so we specifically made a trip back for their Monday burger special and are very disappointed. The sign on the door says 1/2 off burgers and $5 beer. There is ONE beer for $5. And there is a single Patty listed for $5 and a smash burger listed for $9. You'd think when every one in your family is ordering a burger on Monday burger & beer night you'd explain the deal... We went ahead and ordered the smash burger as listed on the Monday deal assuming it was $9 and were not properly informed that when we ordered it, it was a full priced $20 burger. The waitress had also suggested we do the burger off the kids menu for our children for $13 instead of the $5 single patty which obviously did not make any sense. While she was very kind, and apologized for not explaining or realizing her mistakes. She said she'd inform management for the confusion... but unfortunately nothing was done for us. Their prices are very inconsistent and you can be sure to be upsold whenever they get the chance.

Google
Amazing food (best burger so far in US, and I’m not a burger fan), and also margaritas in the happy hour special that runs to 6pm. Gave everything 5 stars, except for the “atmosphere” which we gave 4 stars … mostly due to the area itself being a bit grungy. Nothing wrong at all with the venue itself, it fits in with what’s around it - ie not high end but relaxed beach and a bit grungier style. Great value for the happy hour margaritas at $10 each, and the burgers at $15

Google
Excellent Venice Beach establishment. Food is great with awesome beverage selections. Staff was pretty attentive even though it was a busy Saturday evening with live entertainment on the patio. I had the poke bowl and it was tasty and fairly priced. Awesome venue for locals and tourists to dine/drink by the beach! Dog friendly is a plus!

Google
Came at 2 on a Thursday, got our food and drinks in a timely matter. I thought my steak sandwich was pretty damn good, the bread and the steak quality was amazing. I personally would have added a smear of mayo to balance out the flavors. My mom did not really like her Cubano, said it was too intensely flavored with too much mustard and horseradish. The serving sizes were also generous, we each only ate half of our sandwiches and shared a side of fries which was perfect. Would be perfect to split a sandwich, overall I recommend this place!

Yelp
Just when you think it couldn't get any cooler near the pier at the end of Washington Boulevard, along comes Nalu Vida. Menu is great, the staff are attentive and the food arrives quickly, and the vibe is relaxed/surfer/upbeat. We will be long time customers. Be sure to check this place out!

Yelp
Our volunteer fire relief group got breakfast burritos from here several times over the course of a few weeks, and there is something about them that is truly magic. Maybe it's the ratio of hash brown to everything else, maybe it's the gooey cheese, maybe it's the tortillas, maybe it's the reasonable size and not feeling awful after eating it - maybe it's everything! The staff was also very kind and supportive. Highly highly recommend, and can't wait to try more.

Yelp
It is so sad to see a place like this up charge and over charge people. We were there on Sunday to watch football. The waitress did NOT tell us that a 20% tip was included on the check (my bad for not checking). So of course I left an addiitional tip. THEN upon checking the receipt, I was overcharged for my two drinks and breakfast sandwich totalling $89.00! The Sandwich was $17.00 and the drinks were $15.00 each. I will never go back there and to makes things worse we were all locals. You cannot operate this way or you will for sure 1) lose customers and 2) get a really bad reputation. I am spreading the word to all my local friends to NOT give your money to this establishement. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!

Yelp
The food is good but the service is poor. I ordered the $5 burger special and declined to get a beer. The food didn't come out for 30 mins and the waitress never came back to my table after she dropped the burger off... would have been nice to order something else.. paid the tab, left and ordered at another restaurant.

Yelp
I stopped by Nalu Vida for a quick lunch on a Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was busy, I was seated right away, which I really appreciated. The ambiance was one of my favorite parts. It has a warm, welcoming tropical vibe that made me feel like I was on vacation. Our server was fantastic, bringing us menus and water as soon as we sat down. She recommended the Nalu burger, which I decided to try, and it did not disappoint! The burger was juicy and flavorful, and it came out in under 10 minutes. I ordered fries on the side, and they came with a delicious sauce that paired perfectly with them. Overall, my lunch was quick, tasty, and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to coming back and exploring more of their tempting menu. Highly recommend Nalu Vida for a great, relaxed meal!

Yelp
Customer service was amazing, the drinks were strong, and the food was fresh! 10/10 vibes in the restaurant as well, the heaters are powerful for cold nights and the games will be on the TV's. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will definitely be back!

Yelp
My sister and I decided to escape the LA traffic and unwind after a day of shopping around Abbot Kinney and Marina Del Rey. We were drawn in by the promise of an all-day happy hour--who could resist? As we stepped inside, we couldn't help but notice that while the ambiance had potential, cleanliness seemed to take a backseat (thankfully, the bathroom was in decent shape). With high hopes, we kicked off our experience with their house margarita. Oh boy! It was a puzzling concoction that left us grimacing after just a few sips. It's such a simple drink, but I wondered if the ingredients had seen better days! Just when we were about to throw in the towel, the owner noticed our struggle and graciously offered us a shot of their frozen Cocoa de Rasta. What a game-changer! This drink was a delightful burst of flavor that completely turned our spirits around. I had to order one for myself--it was that good! Feeling a bit peckish, we decided to try the smash burger. While it was juicy and satisfying, it didn't quite have the wow factor we were hoping for. It filled the void, but I wouldn't brag about it to friends. Perhaps it was just an off day or a Tuesday lull, but overall, I left feeling a tad disappointed. The kindness of the staff and that amazing frozen drink saved the day, but I'm not sure I'd rush back anytime soon. If you do decide to visit, maybe stick to those frozen delights!

Yelp
Really really cute vibe we came here for the aesthetic. The staff were so nice of welcoming. The food was so good. Monday is five dollar burgers.

Yelp
Nalu Vida is located at 1 Washington Blvd just steps from the beach. It recently opened about six months ago and they do a great job of Social Media marketing with campaigns on Tik Tok tht are unusual and funny! An old friend and her husband were in town and I thought Nalu was an appropriate venue since they were staying at a beachfront Venice hotel. Our server was Sierra who did a great job despite being windy in out outdoor booth. My guests had the Breakfast Burrito ($17), a house salad (($10), and I had a Bacon & Eggs as did my guest, but she had Egg Whites ($17) and I had the eggs over easy plus toast ($4). Toast should be part of any eggs breakfast in my view. Nonetheless everyone was happy with their choices and I was happy with my selection too. With Tax, the bill came to 73.37 and a $12 cash Tip for excellent service! When at the beach, give Nalu Vida a try as they have an excellent staff of servers and the location is just great being in the center of things in Venice. RECOMMEND!

Yelp
Place is pretty good. Beers are ok priced. Got an old fashioned from their barrel - verify inconsistent and $19 a small glass. Avoid that.

Yelp
I heard about this new place in Venice and wanted to check it out. The food is Cuban/Hawaiian infused. I like it, the flavors are delicious and flavorful. I ordered the Mahi tacos, it came with mango salsa and it was awesome. Good seasoning and the fish tasted fresh. Service was great, the server was nice, friendly, and helpful in explaining things on the menu. Ambiance is fun. They have outdoor, patio, and indoor seating area. Fun colors and decor.

Yelp
This place is actually really good and I'm pretty sure they just recently opened up or were brought under new ownership. Their food variety is extremely random in the best way possible. The same goes for their drinks, they have a nice list of things to choose from; but be careful ordering their cocktails, because some of them are extremely strong. Cayley was our server and she was great! She helped us pick what to order in terms of both food and drinks, and all of her recommendations were amazing! The only issue I had was when my table ordered their food and all of us. got what we ordered at random times. Some of us got our food first and others had to wait an extra 10-20 minutes to also get their order. It kind of sucks because by the time some of us were done eating the others just barely got their food. The timing was very off, so it definitely ruined the experience a bit. If not for our lovely server, this review rating would have been much lower.

Yelp
Was a bit hard to find anything that jumped off menu for me. Wish they would expand their breakfast/brunch offerings. I just had a breakfast burrito that was good enough. Generous size with good fillings. Nice outdoor sidewalk seating with lovely ocean view. Extremely pleasant local vibes and decent service. I really want this restaurant to be a huge success. The last place in this location was a mess. We need solid dining options in the area. Will be interested to see how Nalu evolves.

Yelp
We went here last night for happy hour, which is all night on Tuesdays in fact. Absolutely delicious margaritas for $10, plus we really enjoyed three of the happy hour offerings: bacon wrapped skewered plantains, which were four to an order; the chicken wings with accompany and coleslaw, which was a generous portion of about nine wings; and the mini tostadas topped with pork, also three to an order. Also we shared the strawberry cheesecake which was creamy and yummy. Service was attentive and fun. We sat outside right near oceanfront walk. We all agreed we would definitely return soon. We all wished they had had nachos on the menu as well.

Yelp
A pleasant first visit :) Love the vibrant colors of the beach themed design in a beachside restaurant right next to Venice Beach. Enjoying some food, reading some books and drinking some coffee, what a perfect morning. Woof. Friendly staff too. Woof woof.

Yelp
Nalu Vida is a great new addition to the Venice food scene! Perfectly situated right on Venice Beach, you can watch the sunset while enjoying an interesting and creative menu with Polynesian and Latin vibes. Their menu has a nice selection of small plates, dinner items and drink options. I ordered the vegan Garlic Nalu Noodles which was light and flavorful. The dish was filled with garlic chips and trumpet mushrooms along side a healthy portion of perfectly grilled bok choy in an unami sauce. Sooo good!! Can't wait to try it with the wild or salmon protein added!! My daughter went with their signature Panko/Corn Flake Crusted Adobo Chicken sandwich with a tropical jjcama slaw, Maui sweet onion chutney & cheese on a brioche bun. HEAVEN!! The crunch from the fresh jicama, the chutney's caramelized sweetness and the perfectly prepared, tender chicken - it was the stuff of dreams!! Although we didn't sample, any cocktails, it was a fresh and exciting menu and will definitely be back to investigate. The service was delightful-friendly, laid-back, and efficient. Price point is good for the quality of food and the serving sizes were perfect. Parking is available for five dollars in the public lot on the beach next-door, making this an easily accessed, accessible restaurant in every way. I can see Nalu Vida becoming a Venice staple!! Love love love

Yelp
Went with my friend Carol. Really great food. You don't expect "bar" food to be good, but Nalu Vida served delicious food. We tried several things except the wings and they were all delicious. Not greasy. Tasty, well seasoned. The bacon wrapped skewers, ohhhh so good. The hamburgers we saw people getting looked awesome. It was their Grand Opening and we didn't realize it would be that night. The servers were excellent. Happy. Very busy. The people were a great crowd. Nice to each other.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! From the management, staff, food and ambience, always a good time. Also its super dog friendly which makes it 5 stars in my book
google avatar

Stelio C.

Yelp
Bar rescue vibes with a vaguely island and latin theme. Beach adjacent and great people watching. Staff is usually friendly and accommodating. The food and drink are a solid effort when the stars are aligned, but sometimes it's overpriced for what ends up on the plate or in the glass. The happy hour margaritas are usually cough syrup grade, which is a shame because they were decent when Nalu first opened. Kinda stopped going after 3 disappointing experiences in a row.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Nalu Vida nailed it with their renovation project resulting in a polished and detailed finished product yet laid back surf atmosphere that reminded me of the famous Duke's. Its tropical and vibrant jewel toned interiors coupled with a creative, and fresh seafood menu and innovative drink offerings, made it the perfect place to have a sunset birthday dinner with my family. I was happy to discover that their fish comes from Tangaroa one of my favorite fish markets on Washington. Fresh, simple food creatively crafted with quality ingredients and a good ambiance is my jam so I was happy with my decision. Walking in gives you that staycation or vacation vibe whether you're a local or a tourist. Ideally located in front of the Venice fishing pier and parking lot where the bike path detours inland so it's a great pit stop when on a bike ride or beach walk. Perfect place to meet up post beach volleyball games or beach/surf day for a bite and drink from their unique menu made from scratch. I love the name which is a spin off of the local Costa Rican phrase "Pura Vida" which translates into "pure life" symbolizing a happy, and simple outlook combined with "Nalu" which means "wave" in Hawaiian . So it's essentially "beach life" fusing two languages and cultural references encapsulating their offerings and inspiration. Well thought out and executed and was definitely drawn to them since we have ties to Central America and Oahu. Our server Dominique was on it, super sweet, professional, patient and accommodating as we had 4 kids in our party. The mural behind the tables in between the couch nook and bar is a perfect backdrop to take fun photos and gives it a semi private feel to enjoy time with a larger party. Thank you to Justin for the fun trucker hat and allowing us to bring in a cake. Christian I appreciate you sharing your excitement for the menu and concept last week when I came in for the first time, choosing it as a meet up spot with a friend after seeing a sponsored ad on fb. They were busy getting ready for a grand opening the following Tuesday but were still super welcoming and kind to us! It was great to be able to just walk out onto the pier to take pics at sunset and let the kids play in the sand after dinner. They really are all things to all people and kid friendly from early day to late night options. Brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner, drinks or a celebration, they got you! They just opened so I'm sure it will continue to get even better as they fine tune everything. How does it get better than this!

Yelp
Horrible service from a woman who did not care about her customers. She was more concerned with her co workers opinion.

Yelp
Love this place - so happy to have this newest addition to my neighborhood! Food is delicious, especially the burger, and drinks a great. Very beautifully indoor seating area, extra cool vibe at the outdoor seating area and super cool people working here. Absolutely love and recommend Nalu Vida!

Yelp
We were so excited to see that this location had open. Restaurant closed last night, Beach. The Washington squares one of our favorite places to eat. There do you need gems and Nalu Vida just adds to the ambiance! The staff was wonderful, the cocktails are delightful and refreshing, and the food comes out so fast. It is hot and ready to eat. The salads are amazing and I love the mixture between the pokey cones and the Arepas and variety and more! Definitely add this to your Venice beach list!

Yelp
Went for happy hour. Nice venue. Wings were great. Got that cone app which was alright. Fish in it was fresh and good just didn't care for the cone itself so much.

Yelp
Amazing locale with a tiki surf vibe. Easily the best restaurant in Venice. Service was on point and the views were incredible, both inside and out. Their drink menu will blow your mind and the smash burger rivals any I've ever had. I'll definitely be returning soon.

Yelp
Coming back again tomorrow!! Got the shrimp arepa and the chicken sandwich. Everything had such amazing flavors, a little spice but so fresh. Loved all of the seating options and decor and the staff was so nice and knowledgeable. We also loved the music!

Yelp
This place is awesome! Staff was on point; ate their tostadas (pictured) and these umami ice cream cones they make stuffed with poke and the smash burger with a pineapple bacon jam WTF Super inventive menu. Coming back to try the rest. Great addition to the hood.

Yelp
It's wonderful to see a new restaurant in this space! It's so convenient to one of my favorite beaches, and everyone there is very friendly. I'm a lover of complex and interesting flavors, and the menu seemed like it was ready to deliver. I ordered the chicken sandwich because I saw some enticing pictures here on YELP. I had it without the slaw, so it ended up feeling a little lacking in complexity and I didn't totally love the flavor compared to the description. The fries were great, and I enjoyed the ambience of my space on the front patio nook. I was back again recently hoping to try the ribs, and they were sold out, so they are obviously doing something right even if my sandwich that day didn't quite hit the spot for me. I will probably be back A LOT so I look forward to trying more items and coming back with an updated review!

Margaret C C.

Yelp
Sweet server BUT she was totally inattentive and the food (brunch) had no flavor. None! And the inattentive server never checked on us so we could get salt, or pepper, or ketchup, or another drink. I had the crab cakes and eggs. The crab cakes had a little bite, but nothing yummy. My mom had the bacon and eggs, the bacon came out basically gooey when she asked for crispy and then they took the whole plate away to make the bacon crispy and the rest of the food cold. Great location though.
google avatar

Tyler G.

Yelp
They just recently opened and this place is great! Love the ocean vibe theme, but the drinks are even better. Their frozen cocktails were heaven. Other greatest hits were the tacos(the sauce on them is one of a kind). Looking forward to going here more this summer. You can literally surf, put your stuff in your car in the parking lot and walk right in for drinks and a bite.
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
The food was DELICIOUS! I really recommend this place - been here twice and was super satisfied both times. I had the shrimp arepa and the huevos with the rice and plantains. Go here!
google avatar

Cindy B.

Yelp
Fabulous food! Fun, casual atmosphere. Service was great, the owners were a part of the experience, too. On vacation and so far had lunch there twice!

Jordan W.

Yelp
Service was great. I was at the bar, and the bartender was quick to greet me. He also made an off-menu cocktail when I didn't want one that was on the menu which was greatly appreciated! Food was good! I had the mahi tacos. They didn't skimp on the mahi either - it was a good sized portion for tacos. Flavors were good as well. This was their soft opening. My only constructive criticism would be on the cocktail menu which is only tequila, mezcal, and rum based. I understand that they are trying to stick with the theme of the restaurant, but not everyone likes those spirits so it would be good to have at least one vodka option to give a little more variety. That being said, the cocktails did look unique - different (in a good way!) than what you see anywhere else! Cool vibes inside. They fully embraced the theme of the restaurant in both the decor and menu.

Yelp
Had such a great time at your Grand Opening! All the locals came out, it was so fun to see everyone having a good time! Your Caribbean Shrimp Arepas was Yummy. The servers worked their tails off. So Attentive & friendly. Also loving the new layout & color scheme. Makes me feel like I'm on vacation. :) See you soon...

Yelp
The food and service were great! The restrooms were well-kept, and the ambiance was perfect for the spot right along the water. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing sit-down!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and great food right at the end of Washington Blvd. they really carry their Caribbean theme through and do it well. I like the Cesear with Salmon.

Jaylon M.

Yelp
This place has potential if they brush up on a few things here and there. I'll break it down below. Service: Pretty quick service after we were greeted (which took about 10 minutes). Unfortunately our server was pretty short with us and didn't really seem to have great customer service skills. Not sure if she was having a bad but she was pretty rude and not personable at all. when we were sat at our table there was no hello, we were asked if had checked in with the host. When we answered that we did she just walked away. Later she came back to take our order. Very odd unprofessional experience. Food: The menu is pretty nice and well balanced with a wide variety of food that seemed to be inspired by native island cuisine. We ordered crab cakes, wings, and the furikake kimchi cones for apps and for entrees we got the shrimp arepa and the chicken sandwich. Overall the food was a 6/10. The wings were delicious but the rest of the food was lack luster and missing something. The quality of the poke in the cones was top notch. The chicken in the sandwich was pretty bland needing more brine time or even a good sauce would have done the job. The shrimp and filling in the arepas was great quality but the arepa itself was dry and tough. Ambience: This is where the place shines. It's beautifully decorated. Vibrant colors, nice relaxing island feel but upbeat and fun to some with friends. Overall, this would maybe be a place to come have drinks but I'll skip getting a table next time and just hang out at the bar. The service seems better there and I can just get drinks.

Kayrene W.

Yelp
Amazing food/presentation, amazing spot, and the owner Christian and his staff are the most hospitable! Great time here at Nalu Vida!

Yelp
Bad experience, I asked for a table or a little corner for two. It will take a while to bring the menu. I had to talk to a female waitress, because the male waitress didn't come. We ordered two cocktails with leblon cacha, the one on the shelf, perhaps that was part of the decoration. The waitress said she would check if they could make the drink. It took them more than 20 minutes to tell, well I had to ask for the drinks and then they confirmed that they couldn't make it. I paid and we left.

I never knew how much I wanted this. It's not easy to pull off sexy, chill and not pretentious.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails, atmosphere, and staff! Patrick the bartender was the best! Two thumbs up! It is a great place to unwind and enjoy the beach life.

Yelp
The decor, food, drinks AND staff are all pretty solid here! Feels like an upgrade from the handful of versions of bars that have been through this location. Check it out!

Yelp
Great vibe, great food and great staff. It's my new favorite hangout on Washington square. Oh, the music was great too!

Yelp
Great location. Friendly staff. Fantastic drinks. Nalu Vida is 10 steps from the sand of Venice Beach. It has a tropical feel and good music. I recommend giving it a try.
