"The best dinner parties are the ones where the host has thought of everything: from curating the perfect playlist, to having (more than) enough booze, to remembering to make cookies with rice flour for that one gluten-free guest, to putting a bow tie on the dog. These parties may be rare, but when they do happen, it’s the attention to detail that really makes people, and dogs, remember them. Eating at Opus Co., a tiny neighborhood restaurant in Greenwood, is like going to one of those memorably good dinner parties. It starts with the food. The menu changes regularly, and features seasonal ingredients cooked on a wood grill. For example, the Early Fall menu had a golden beet salad with homemade queso fresco, poached pear slices, radicchio, jerk-spiced pepitas, and charred leek vinaigrette that was so good we wanted to lick the plate. A soy sauce and buttermilk brined roast chicken with malt vinegar caramel was also outstanding. These may not be flavors you’d immediately think to put together yourself, but once you try them, you’ll wonder why every chef doesn’t use them all the time. Most dishes on the menu check at least four out of the five taste boxes (sweet, sour, salty, savory, and bitter) - even desserts like buttermilk bay leaf ice cream with squash candy and a smoked shortbread cookie. But thoughtfully assembled as the menu items here are, the food is only one part of what makes this place exceptional. The space may not seem all that impressive on first glance - the whole restaurant is the size of a studio apartment, with six tables and an extra four chairs at the chef’s counter in the back. There are no obviously expensive decorations or particularly distinctive pieces of furniture, and there’s not even a full bar. Despite all this, though, it feels special. Like you’re camping out with a group of strangers, but your food is being grilled to order, then served by extremely friendly staff. Opus Co. is pretty far removed from the city center, but it’s well worth going out of your way to Greenwood for. Bring a date who appreciates details more than a scene. Or, next time it’s your turn to host a dinner party, consider bringing your friends here and just taking all the credit for being a fantastic host. Food Rundown Beet Salad No one has ever grabbed you by the collar and demanded you order a beet salad - until now. This is one of the best salads we’ve ever had. Opus Pork Sausage Opus improves the concept of a sausage platter the same way Mozart could improve a used car dealership jingle. This grilled housemade sausage comes with herbed flatbread, fenugreek pickled apples, and some mustard seed-fermented fennel. Make a little sandwich - it tastes best when you have every component in one bite. Crispy Pork Belly A piece of pork belly, crusted in sesame seeds, sea salt, and fennel seed powder, that melts in your mouth but is simultaneously crunchy. The accompanying green tomato chutney and caramelized sauerkraut go really well with it, too. Roasted Cauliflower Roasted purple cauliflower, pickled cabbage, hazelnuts, and a spicy mole sauce made from “squash guts.” Get this as a side dish. Half Chicken Brined in soy sauce and buttermilk, then glazed with malt vinegar caramel, this chicken has a caramelized and sweet skin. It comes with “three small things” - we received spicy charred turnips, pickled apples, and some roasted kabocha squash. This was extremely difficult to stop eating. Steelhead Excellent if you’re looking to go down the Nice Piece of Fish route, and served with wine-poached pears, grilled radicchio, and a “risotto” made from kasu (the yeast leftover from sake production) on the side. The kasu is the crucial element here - it tastes like a wine sauce with the intensity turned way up, and balances out the bitterness of the grilled radicchio. Buttermilk Ice Cream On paper, this dessert sounds a little odd: buttermilk bay leaf ice cream, dehydrated squash candy, honey, and a smoked shortbread cranberry cookie. In reality, it’s the best dessert you never knew you wanted." - Aimee Rizzo

"Opus Co. is planning to close permanently in September. Before closing, it will offer a six-week-long indoor dining experience with a suggested donation to support local farmers, purveyors, and employees. A barbecue fundraiser will also take place to celebrate its fourth anniversary. The restaurant is known for its use of local ingredients and well-executed vegetable dishes cooked on a wood-fired grill." - Gabe Guarente

"Opus is a little different in that you can sit at the chef’s counter and still order a la carte, but the way to go really is the Opus Feast, a $55/person six-course romp through family-style dishes." - Jackie Varriano

"Another neighborhood gem that’s a destination restaurant in the making, Opus Co. delivers a surprising diversity of from-scratch elements despite a tiny kitchen. The chef’s menu here is the way to go — it’s relatively low-priced, and you’ll get to taste the kitchen’s most daring dishes of the moment. Lamb and pig are broken down on site and turned into charcuterie or charred on the wood grill, and local vegetables reign supreme. Little consideration is given to plating, which makes the meal all the more accessible." - Megan Hill

My fiance and I ordered the Opus feast, while I don't remember all of the names of the dishes & as a chef myself the atmosphere and every single dish and everything that was played was absolutely without a doubt delicious. At $55 per person I highly recommend going to Opus Co. We will definitely be returning to this place. I've attached photos from 1st dish to the last dish.

My wife and I went here for her birthday and we went with the $50 tasting menu option. If you've never been before, I highly recommend it. The food was superb and I'd have a hard time recommending just one item to go with. The staff went above and beyond to make the evening magical for the occasion. We will be recommending this to all of our friends and family.

Cools and cozy neighborhood spot. Service was superb throughout. Food neared excellent deliciousness levels but a couple of the wines including the chardonnay was not. This was not the factor that dictated my 4* instead of full marks. The reason was the food portions were on the smaller side. I understand it was a tasting menu but if we do the math it appears we could've gotten better value by ordering many of the tasting dishes separately that appear on the ala carte menu. However, I wasn't able to compare the dish sizes if this was done.

Thoughtful menu, delicious dishes, charming little spot and super friendly service We had a great time. Felt totally taken care of with half glass wines so we could try things. Didn’t do the “feast” but had one anyway with very nice but limited selections that somehow rather than disappointing made choosing easier. Despite being known for meat the vegetable and fish dishes were excellent. Also, good acoustics! Lovely evening that didn’t break the bank. We will be back if we can ever get a reservation.

BLUF: Gem of a tasting restaurant featuring open fire roasted locally sourced meats and vegetables in a quaint, affordable setting and owned and operated by the people running the restaurant. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Located in north Phinney Ridge, this awesome spot is small and justifiably so makes you feel like an important customer. No where in Seattle can you beat the quality of this food and the cost of its enjoyment. The owners have dedicated themselves to producing quality food at an affordable rate by splitting equally the duties of the front and back of house. On the evening we dined, the chef owner was bussing and washing dishes. Simply put, there is nothing these people wouldn’t do to produce excellent food using quality ingredients to be enjoyed at a price that most Seattle residents can afford. This is true dedication to their craft, and it is represented in the service and taste. We enjoyed the tasting menu and paired with local wines, ciders, and digestifs. Despite their excellence in service, there was never a time that we felt stuffy, overwhelmed, or snobbish. This was good, laid back, casual, and comfortable without losing an ounce of respect for their craft. The roasted, cured, and grilled meats and fish were on point. All served alongside a repertoire of pickled and cured, grilled and roasted, puréed and all sorts of transformed vegetables from the northwest. I can’t stress enough how great of a restaurant of this magnitude is within the bustling Seattle food scene where competitiveness is matched by rising food and rent costs. I applaud this group of owners and operators for working so hard to create the product that comes from Opus Co. I will be back and back again. Keep up the strong work! 👍🏻👍🏻

Opus Co is quite possibly my favorite restaurant in Seattle. With "The Feast" they have found the right balance between affordable price and premium quality to create an exceptional value for high end dining.

Delightful meal. We did the prix fixe and enjoyed every single plate. Loved the okra and eggplant (two vegetables I literally hate) and lamb. Wine pairings were on point and reasonable. Definitely plan to dine here again.

One of my new favorite restaurants in Seattle! My husband and I enjoy doing tasting menus from time to time and this one hit the spot. Our server was so fun and really made the meal a treat. We love going to places that serve high quality food but don’t feel stuffy or pretentious. They had great music on in the background and the atmosphere was low key and laid back. The tasting menu had generous portions for the two of us and they were very accommodating to my nut allergy. Fresh ingredients and dishes with an Asian flare! I’ll forever daydream about the crispy rice and the spinach salad we had last night! 🤤 Can’t wait to come back!
