The Best Bars In Denver - Denver - The Infatuation

"We’d believe just about any story you told us about the PS Lounge. That it hasn’t changed a single thing since it opened in 1981? The worn floral carpeting and Houston Oilers helmet on the wall sure look like it. That it has the highest ratio of women to men of any dive? They still give out free roses and welcome shots that taste oddly like orange Tang to ladies, so that tracks. This Colfax bar is a Denver institution as much as Union Station or the capitol building, just with a better selection of whiskeys. The PS Lounge accepts pretty much everyone, but it doesn’t accept cards, so bring cash." - allyson reedy

The Best Denver, Colorado Bars | Eater Denver

"In the treasure trove of old dive bars that is East Colfax, the PS Lounge is a major gem — kitsch-filled, cash-only, and totally laid-back. Established by Pete Siahamis 40-plus years ago, it’s beloved for bestowing free Alabama Slammers on every patron who enters along with roses for the ladies. A jukebox and a pool table seal the deal." - Ruth Tobias

A Colfax institution where patrons get welcome shots and women receive a rose. Regularly highlighted by Eater, 5280, and Westword, it’s pure East Colfax personality: cash-only, jukebox humming, and an easygoing crowd that spans generations.

Cool rando spot still doing Cash Only! Lots of history and cool retro vibes. Great service. Bartender was amazing and all women receive a rose 🌹. Very Old Fashioned! Loved it. Complimentary shots as well! Good music to!

Anna Chirkova

Google
Stopped by this cozy spot recently and had such a great experience. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for a casual night out. Special shout-out to the new bar girl — she’s absolutely fantastic! Super friendly, attentive, and brings such a fresh, warm energy to the place.

Jennifer Melin

Google
Amazing experience! This place is a gem. Very welcoming atmosphere, and we were well taken care of. Loved the jukebox! Wonderful addition to our evening.

Tessa Stackow

Google
This used to be my favorite bar. Unfortunately the owner, Pete, is apparently homophobic (and quite racist, looking at some of the other comments here). He shouted at me for kissing another woman at the bar and called it "pornographic," but didn't say anything when his much older male friend was making unwanted advances, including touching me without my permission. I've heard great things about Knob Hill and love Bar Nun. I'd recommend either location to other queer folks looking for a safe space to hang out at a local dive.

Google
Stoped by for a drink. Bartender was very nice, but the owner came in and was an absolute buzzkill. I found him rough and unwelcoming. The place went from what could’ve been a “go to” to a “avoid”

Ben Taft

Google
New favorite bar hands down. Such a cool retro vibe. Drinks are incredibly affordable ($4-$6 each). The bonus welcome shots and complimentary rose for the ladies is an awesome touch. Definitely will be back.

Anna Myers

Google
Love this place. Every time I come back, I’m always impressed by how much attention goes into the guest experience. Cash-only with a charming bar/lounge, jukebox, and separate room for the pool table. Whole place feels very old-school. The pizza joint next door is great, and you can order from the bar.

Nick Fretchel

Google
Best dive-bar on Colfax without a doubt. I take anyone from out of town here for a few pints. Decor is second to none, service is spectacular & the place just has a great energy.
google avatar

Gina K.

Yelp
Came here on a whim and can't believe I was missing out on just a classic dive bar! We sat at the bar and noticed every woman who orders a drink gets a rose and the place is like stepping back in time. Everything is well maintained, the staff is very friendly and the owner, an older gentleman was even there. Go check out this classic dive bar on Colfax.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, how have I not reviewed this spot yet? It is my #1 recommended spot whenever people want a spot to hang out before or after the zoo, jazz in the park, museum of nature & science. As many have noted, this is just a classic dive bar. Cash only. Short list of beers. Strong drinks. Bartenders with the perfect amount of chatter. And it's made classy by the tang shot they give everyone and the flower they give every lady.
google avatar

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
I knew absolutely nothing about this place and yall I thought I was special getting a shot and a rose from them with my beer. The staff is super friendly. There is a single pool table and a jukebox. It's exactly what you imagine when you hear dive bar.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
I brought my service dog into PS lounge, and the owner kicked me out even after I showed him the doctors note from my primary care provider. Absolutely disgusting human being.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
This long time bar is like traveling back in time. The staff are so friendly and every lady gets a rose and tang shot when you visit!
google avatar

Cody P.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bar. Super friendly bartenders, a pool table, and good drinks at reasonable prices. Highly recommend!

Yelp
PS Lounge, more like PS I Love You. I don't make this proclamation too often, but PS Lounge is timeless. A staple on East Colfax for 40 years. The owner, Pete, is there every single night. Ladies are still greeted with a rose and every customer with a complimentary shot. It's a [high] dive where you're guaranteed a good time. The drinks are cheap. You can stick with a can of beer or a surprisingly solid selection of whiskey. My go-to lately at PS Lounge has been a neat pour of Old Grandad. It just seems appropriate when I'm there. I enjoy the versatility of the bar. A group of four snuggled up in a booth gazing over the old photographs plastered on the wall. Pool rats hoarding the pool table all night. A couple having an intimate conversation at the bar. The loud college kids feeding the jukebox. PS Lounge is a place for all. The New York vibes are really special. They're still a cash only bar and somehow it doesn't irritate me. What's not to love about this Denver institution? Don't ever change.
google avatar

Kristin C.

Yelp
This place is always consistent. Such a a gem of a dive bar on Colfax. Pete, the owner shows up most nights. He's friendly and runs a great business. They provide free roses and shots as you sit down. There's an old school jukebox with some great tune options, a pool table, and comfy booths. You can even order pizza from Enzo's next door. Don't forget to have cash when you go because they are a cash only business.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
What a historical gem on Colfax! A friend of mine kept raving about this place so a group of friends and I decided to go check it out. PS has a friendly east coast dive bar feel to it which is right up my alley and the drinks are super affordable while also well-made. The best part? All customers receive a free shot that tastes like a Flintstones vitamin (for those of you that remember those, hello nostalgia!) and the girls in our group got a nice flower for each of them. What more can you ask for! Tip: This is a cash only bar so make sure to bring some to pay for your affordable drinks and tip!
google avatar

Logan C.

Yelp
This is an old school bar, Cash only, cash jukebox, cash register! Great atmosphere free welcome shot and a flower for every lady that comes in! Plus Enzos pizza next door! Owner Pete is here most nights and very welcoming as old school as can be. Great place, def recommend

Yelp
This was absolutely the BEST bar we've been to. Lacey was smelling a random liquor and I offered an idea for her to use that liquor, she did and gave me the sample shot, it was another girls birthday and Lacey gave me the extra shot that was poured. Little did Lacey know, we were celebrating my dad's 1 year death anniversary. When I told her that I was getting drunk for that reason, she bought me two rounds, gave me a hug and said to "make sure I don't cry too much I'm too pretty for that". TRULY, the KINDEST bartender I've ever met, she deserves a raise and then some. Thank you Lacey, for making an incredibly sad 22 year old girls', night. You reminded me that people like my late father, do exist.
google avatar

Stacy P.

Yelp
We love this bar! It feels like stepping back in time, and is perfectly complimented by a late dinner at Bastien's, just across the street. Staff are always friendly and have good cocktail suggestions, and you'll feel welcome and comfy during your stay. And yes, the ladies still get a rose upon arrival! PS lounge is a Denver legend that totally lives up to the hype. Snobs need not darken the door with a bad attitude. :)

Yelp
When I walked into the place I felt like I was back in my time in Ireland. I went to this place because of the pool table, but when we got there it was occupied. My partner went to talk to the people who were playing to see if they would share so we could play and hang out at the bar. I went to ask for directions to the bathroom. The bartender stopped me and asked if I needed help. I asked if she only had one pool table and she said yes. I asked where the bathroom was and she gave me the directions. When I was leaving she asked if we were going to stay at the bar and I said it was up to the boys to share the table. Then she said to me, "Sorry, the bathroom is for guests only." I have never felt so poorly treated and I was shocked by this rude response, because we would probably stay at the bar. When I went back to the pool table to see if they would share, my partner said yes, but I couldn't stay in that place that I left after such rude service.

Joseph P.

Yelp
Unbelievably rude bartender (apparently the owner?) I used to come here for the chill atmosphere, but this guy is so unfriendly I will never come back
google avatar

Clarissa L.

Yelp
Our favorite dive bar when we are in Denver. Every Lady receives a rose and a house shot. The atmosphere is very welcoming, my favorite is the jukebox. My husband and I, highly recommend this place to whoever is visiting Denver.
google avatar

Drew I.

Yelp
If you like good drinks, a vibrant atmosphere, overly zealous feminist, and mysogenist owners, THIS is the spot! Don't forget to inhale the smell of puke and the 80's
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
Easy to like....cash only... free cordial plus a rose for the ladies ....Pete the owner on site....stop by if on Colfax!
google avatar

Calvin G.

Yelp
Everything everyone says is true -- the owner really is there every night, ladies really do get a rose, everyone really does get a (soft) shot of SoCo and Sunny D for free. The pool table costs $0.75 and is well maintained. There's a jukebox. It's cash only and Coors Banquets cost $4. It's everything you could ever ask for in a dive.
google avatar

St C.

Yelp
I could rate this lounge higher and had a great time here with an old friend I had not seen in 20+ years. It is a CASH only place, but they did have an ATM on site. The bartender welcomed us with a free house shot and the lady got a rose. This is a little local hangout with a great jukebox to play your music. People watching was fun and the place was the perfect place to catch up on lost time.
google avatar

Kevin Q.

Yelp
Owner is an ass. I walked in hoping to play a game of pool, on their pool table. Owner immediately accused me of trying to hustle customers. Mind you there was only one other person at the bar and he wanted to play a game as well. Totally unnecessary attitude from the owner, and it tuned me off from even being in there. Avoid this place until ownership changes.

Mark K.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Pete is the best, if you haven't met him get over to the PS Lounge, graba. drink (Cash only) and order a pizza from Enzo's End Pizzeria, you will not be disappointed. Best Jukebox in town.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Great old school bar right on the strip. Everything from the sign out front to the bar to the bartender was awesome!! Every woman that walks in gets a Rose and a shot. I strolled in here half in the bag and immediately met 3 women at 3pm, they were from outta town too! Later on, the crowd was all over the place... you had couples, regs, pool junkies, switch hitters & college kids lurking around. The bartenders are super good & they are cash only. This is a Denver Institution/ Must See!!
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
Umm yes please! Ladies get a rose and a shot when you come in... need I say more? Drinks are super cheap abs it's as dicey as they come. LOVED finding this place!
google avatar

Sabine F.

Yelp
This is the first time we visited this establishment. It is our son and girlfriends favorite place when visiting Denver. The owner is super inviting. He offered us a round of drinks and ensured we had a place to sit. When we ordered our drinks, all of us ladies got a rose and all of us got a free liquor. It is a small lounge but they make you feel like family. The jukebox is a beautiful feature.

Megan V.

Yelp
Turned me away for the way I smelt. Not a kind action, ripped my thorned rose out of my hand and kicked me out. Update: went back and Pete apologized. Redeemed.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
An absolute blast. Fruity shots for all, roses for the ladies. Just a fantastic low key vibe.
google avatar

Bill J.

Yelp
What a cool place. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Stopped by recently for the first time with my partner and we absolutely loved it. Great music, generous pours, and a great vibe. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Bec O.

Yelp
We went out with our son and his girlfriend last night and at the end of the evening we ended up at PS Lounge and what a blast from the past. This is a cash only bar, but they have an ATM inside those who operate on cards. Ladies get a rose and everyone gets an Alabama Slammer on the house. Talk about throw backs. Bartenders are women - they are welcoming and professional. I don't think they put up with any foolery. The cocktails are stiff and do not break the bank. No fancy IPAs here. The decor is funky and fun. I gotta say the place is clean. There is a pool table. It is not regulation size, but at $.50 to play, whose complaining. The clientele runs the gambit from hipsters, professionals to old timers. Pete, the owner, is a celebrity for sure. Enzo's pizza is next door - you can literally walk to the restaurant from inside PS Lounge. YUM As far as so am concerned, we hit the jackpot.
google avatar

Luke L.

Yelp
Pete kicked out my drunk roommate at least twice from this bar. I am thankful that Pete has such a discerning eye. I joked with him about it the next time we were in and he was grinning from ear to ear. Pete is a kind hearted and genuine older guy and has a real way with words. The guy gives out roses to all the women who enter and free shots to everyone. What's not to like about the place? In seriousness I don't feel comfortable in the bar with Pete staring down from his corner seat. He is as stoic as they come and cuts-off / kicks out people however he sees fit. The drinks are ok and the jukebox is above average. I won't spend time or money here again. If Pete just stayed home this would probably be my neighborhood bar. Unfortunately he's ruining his own buisnes.

Valerie K.

Yelp
The owner harassed us because we had a service dog. So much so we left because he ruined our evening and he wasn't going to stop. He was clearly ignorant of the laws around disabled and service animals. We will never go back and will encourage others not to either.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Crafted cocktails, a long list of craft beer, modern technology - think again because you ain't getting it here but that's not to say that you won't have a ton of fun at the PS Lounge. I would consider this a finisher bar - as it is usually the last bar of the night that I visit before hitting the hay. It has a charm about it that I have not been able to put my finger on anywhere else in Denver. It's dark. It's outdated. It's cheap. It's cozy. Five dollars for an old fashioned? Yes, please! One dollar for 3 songs from the jukebox (the old school one, nothing digital can be found here, minus the cell phone that you bring in). A free rose for the ladies and a free shot that is poured for you as soon as you place your order. This is my kind of place. The PS Lounge is conveniently located on Colfax Ave - one of the oldest streets in the city (Denver's lost highway) and is walking distance of a distinctive mix of old and new school businesses. So cozy up with a drink, order some pizza from Enzo's (the pizzeria that is attached) and enjoy a fun night out on the town.

Adrian D.

Yelp
We came from out of town and this was the best bar out of the gate. Super friendly and great drinks. Would definitely recommend to everyone. Great dive bar p.s. Lacy is the best bartender in the game.
google avatar

RunAway B.

Yelp
The "PS Lounge" was a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite over-the-years ... BUT unfortunately, I met the owner today. He acted like he was the Godfather of the Greek mafia. No smiles, just sternness in his expression. He growled with a stern face at the bartender (a great bartender too) about the ice in front of the customers, as he sniffed the ice for some odor. Not a nice man at all. Any employer that acts that way is not someone I wanna give money to. Then the "Godfather" sat at the end of the bar with his mean expression, glaring at the people at the bar. When I took a picture of a rose laying at the bar, he sent the bartender down to my end of the bar to tell me "the owner wants you to leave!" ... the Godfather has spoken! A bit confused & with an expression of bewilderment, I "immediately left my full Coors Banquet on the bar & proceeded to the front door exit (for the last time) at the Godfather's command. The owner likes power obviously & ordering his staff & customers around. The owner IS the spirit of any business & his spirit is not positive!! day 102 "DUSA 2017" (Discover USA) day 155 "666 Bars of 2017" / bar 311 "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! (but won't return) #RunAwayBill #DUSA2017 #666BarsUSA #WorldsLongestBarCrawl 06.04.17

Yelp
Visited this bar back in June on a trip through Colorado. Great 60s looking interior, jukebox, friendly locals. Pete the owner was a super nice guy and a very generous bartender.
google avatar

Khaled I.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place by accident but we are so glad we did! Free Shot (Alabama Slammer) and a Rose when we sat down! Lacey the bartender was awesome and as was the owner (Pete)! You can get pizza next door and eat it at the bar! Juke Box for music with some classics. If you love local retro dive bars, this is for you!!
google avatar

Maria Jo N.

Yelp
What a dangerous little hole-in-the-wall. Ladies are greeted with a rose and everyone gets a house shot. The drinks do the trick, let me tell you what! The jukebox plays classics and old NFL emblems and photos of celebrities I probably should recognize cover the walls. The booths are cramped (cozy) and you'll make friends with at least 2 strangers.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
PS Lounge is ALL THE VIBES. If you're a dive bar lover like me, this is a must stop here in the Mile High. I come here every so often after a show at The Bluebird or Lost Lake and find myself wondering why I don't come here, like, every night? Pete, the owner of this fine establishment, stocks the bar with fresh roses for every lady who comes in. He also gives everyone an Alabama Slammer, which is crazy sweet but also the tasty price of $free, so I'm not complaining. They make all the basic bar drinks here, plus there's a pizza shop next door to cure your late night munchies. You can even bring your pizza to PS Lounge to enjoy with your drink and some jukebox music. Seriously, what's better than Hall & Oates on the jukebox and a cocktail in your hand? Nothing, that's what. The walls of PS Lounge are covered in photos of guests from throughout the years, and I'm going to go ahead and #humblebrag that my photo is somewhere on that wall. Pete takes the photos himself and will usually give you another free drink--talk about customer experience. Don't forget to bring cash with you, as this is a cash only bar!
google avatar

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
An ode to the PS Lounge: Patrick dishes drinks delicious, this missive lists his twists auspicious. His feat? Pour shots fee free, indeed they're sweet His feet trod sod earning money from Bunnies Now his sweet treats are peddled petals; each lady lost in David Austin. Meet Pete to complete your retreat. Shake hands with the man and understand where it began -- Athena's seen a scene fly by in the Mile High dive, am I right? Archduke of the juke, toons swirl and the girls swoon, Shimmy, shake, shuffle, it's magic for the men with a ten; Hamilton heats up the hips with swift hits. PS - Everything.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Pete is a real ass hole... He offered me a shot on Friday night and I declined because I didn't want to get too intoxicated. The following evening I thanked him again for the offer and he abruptly cut me off and said "I'm trying to work here man". There were about 12 people in the entire place at that point and there was no rush for drink orders. A few minutes later when I tried to order a beer he told me to leave. I was not intoxicated and only had a couple beers at that point. I initially thought he was joking. When I asked him why, he told me he would call the police if I didn't leave immediately. Pretty strange way to run a business if you ask me. I've worked as a server before and wouldn't be angry if someone didn't want to take a shot. In fact, I would appreciate them knowing their limits and being responsible. I wasn't trying to be rude. I just didn't want to get wasted. Other patrons were surprised and apologized for Pete's behavior. On my way out someone said "Don't take it personally. He just gets into bad moods sometimes". I didn't get upset by it. I just think he is an antisocial prick and won't be going back.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
The ultimate 5 star joint. This, my friends, is the real deal. It's cool without trying, it's cheap, the drinks are great and you're greeted as family the minute you walk in the door. One of America's great bars. Long may it rule.
google avatar

Aleigha H.

Yelp
It was a nice touch to get a rose when you sit down. Girls love gifts! I loved getting a rose for no reason besides the fact I came in and sat down. Then they give you a free shot to go with your first round. It has an old juke box with great tunes. Dive bar and kinda hipster feel. Mary the bartender is awesome!

John B.

Yelp
First time in my life going here. As soon as I walked in I was kicked out. Nobody else was in there except loud crickets. It was early in the day and I had just walked in straight from my hotel. What in the actual F*&^?? Bad management. Bad judgement. Badly run. Bad treatment of people from out of town for no good reason. I will not be back.
google avatar

Jaime K.

Yelp
Was looking for a bar near Lost Lake this Friday night to meet up with some friends before a show. Noticed that PS Lounge was literally right next door and had to give it a try. I'm all about dive bars, and the diveyer the better in my opinion. This place is awesome. When I walked in and sat down at the bar, the bartender gave me a rose, and a shot on the house! I was all about this. Then when I went to pay for our drinks, the two beers were $7.50. That's what I'm talking about! Ended up coming back here after the show and it was pretty crowded, but decided to stay for a PBR and talk about what food we wanted to eat. Basically, if you're in the area, you should drop in and see for yourself!
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
I stopped into PSL last night with a couple of coworkers of mine. We are in Denver for a convention. This bar is an absolute find! We had so much fun there. Pete made us feel welcome and at home even though we might not ever return. We are going to return tonight for one last visit. If you live anywhere near this neighborhood you should stop by. It is friendly, throw back, fun, and welcoming not to mention the obvious great drinks.
google avatar

Mary Beth D.

Yelp
We loved this place! My co-worker did some research as to where to go when in Denver and came up with this place. We came in on a Monday night and were greeted by the bartender who asked if we had ever been in and welcomed us. She said ladies get a rose (nice little touch) and everyone there for the first time gets a shot. (Not bad for a free shot) The drinks are cheap, the atmosphere was a great dive bar with a great jukebox and the bartender was so cool. I don't remember her name, but she was awesome! There were only a few people at the bar and a couple in a booth when we were in around 11. I'll definitely make a stop in here next time I'm in Denver.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
We went here again for office hours yesterday and I realized I wish I spent more time at this bar. I love the dim interior with the big booths. I love the cheap drinks. I love Pete himself and the fact that he gives ladies roses still. The jukebox kicks ass. The pool table doesn't have a bad shooting angle. The bartenders are friendly. The drinks are stiff. And for my own P.S. - there is a picture of me somewhere amongst all the other photos hanging on the wall - taken after a long summer night of bike-riding and bar crawling. Don't worry though I'm behaving perfectly acceptable in it. :)
google avatar

Ruggy J.

Yelp
Being from San Francisco and very used to spending no less than $10 on every drink I consume, imagine how 1% I felt like when I rolled into PS Lounge and made a Hamilton stretch into four, yes... *four* vodka + sodas! That's no typo: a well drink at this lovely Geek man's rathskeller will only ding you $2.50, even at 11:45 on a Friday night. Is this real life?! How does he pay his bills? Not only is Pete (owner of PS Lounge) running quite the nifty little dive, he's also a ladies man who makes sure that every human stemming from the XX chromosome is handed a fresh cut rose upon entry, and you'll never start your night of drinking without a shot their finest fruity elixir. It's like he's giving away the farm any given night, but in the most charming possible fashion. I feel like I'm rich in the 3oh!3!

Austin W.

Yelp
I want to preface this by saying that I love PS Lounge. It has been one of the most inviting locations that my partner and I like to frequent. Tonight was a total s*it show. It took 15 minutes before my partner went to the bar to grab our drinks - every time we've been here they've come directly to us with a rose, a shot, and to take our orders - the bartender was drunk, and it just didn't feel like the inviting bar that we are used to. But when the bartender's friends walk in, it was nothing but smiles, shots and drinks. I don't know who this new bartender is, but they totally made me and my partner feel so unwelcome to the point where we don't want to come anymore.

Megan M.

Yelp
I do not leave reviews, but this place warrants the lowest review and the most negative attention as possible. Please do not spend your money here. There are plenty of better bars steps away ( Middle Man and Bastiens across the street) that deserve support. After reading other reviews of people who experienced the same ignorant behavior and judgement from the owner ( and bartender who enforces it) this place does not deserve to be in business.
