18 hours in Charleston? My tour guide had no time to waste on mediocre, we enjoyed some of the best of the best. And so according to him, that meant Paddock & Whiskey would earn a spot on this brief itinerary. Boyyyy oh boy I am glad it did.
A late night menu starting at 10pm meant I could enjoy a full fried chicken sandwich on a sesame seed bun with pickles and all next to my fancy shmancy cocktail. It was the kind of late dinner that looks so luxurious and indulgent you almost feel like an important person while enjoying it. Especially when you're seated at a gorgeous bar, with perfectly attentive service. (It's possible that my tour guide might actually be a somewhat important person, and I am not denying that, however all my instincts say this is just how they do business here.)
I didn't forget to mention how cool it is that this bar took the place of Wells Fargo, including a tasting room in an old vault. It just isn't as important as the fact that without that cheeky detail, this place is swell. I love that there is plenty of variety in seating: couches, high tops, tables, and of course my fave a bar with wait for it....purse hooks & OUTLETS.
The outlet wasn't the highlight (it did mean I could charge my phone so that I would be able to hail the lyft home though, and for that reason it was maybe a runner up), the highlight for sure was the people - what an awesome crew. So if we are going with outlet as second place, that would put the smashed potatoes with herb crème fraiche third, followed up by the extra hot hot toddy. Honorable mention had to be The RX Bandit. For $13 it had all the elements of a bougie LA detox juice, at a fraction of the price AND with liquor, Monkey Shoulder to be more specific. I especially loved the fennel garnish.
A++++ for an experience that is mega cool, feels exclusive, and is still welcoming.
