Where to Eat and Drink in the Excelsior District

"With a Filipino Community Center and many families in the neighborhood, Excelsior throws down with a couple of favorite Filipino restaurants. Pamanguena succeeds in being both comforting and worthy of a special occasion, laying down kamayan feasts on banana leaves, heavy with barbecue chicken, lumpia, garlic rice, and more." - Becky Duffett

Pampanguena Cuisine - Review - Excelsior - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Pampanguena Cuisine is the antithesis of the small plate mania that’s overrun SF. The Filipino restaurant in Excelsior specializes in kamayan-style feasts that could feed the entire Warriors’ bench twice over. The actual amount of food depends on how many people you’re with, but expect your banana leaf-lined basket to be loaded with things like lumpia, a whole grilled tilapia, glistening barbecue pork, and a mound of rice piled high in the middle. Douse everything in vinegar and umami-packed “secret sauce,” and go to town. They do have other a la carte entrées, like a pretty good sisig baboy that arrives bubbling. But you’re not here for a light, no-leftovers lunch—you’re here to go big with the kamayan while admiring the space’s eccentric lobsters, hanging anchors, and other tropical decor." - Julia Chen

The Best Filipino Restaurants in San Francisco and the East Bay - Eater SF

"Pampanguena Cuisine offers a long menu of Filipino classics, but most people order one of the family-style kamayan feasts, served on banana leaves and intended to be eaten with your hands. The kamayan meal is now available for takeout, too — served in a big, banana leaf-lined box. Depending on how many people you want to feed, it might include a whole grilled tilapia, barbecued chicken, lumpia, shrimp fritters, salted eggs, steamed vegetables, and a mountain of rice, plus mandatory dipping sauces." - Dianne de Guzman, Luke Tsai, Janelle Bitker

Food was absolutely incredible I had their chicken Adobo, I Highly recommend it. Staff was very polite and friendly they made me and my wife feel welcomed. My one complaint and the only reason for 4 stars is the fact that they do not take credit cards and are cash only. It was an inconvenience for me to need to go find an ATM when I got the bill and found this out. In 2022 there should be no buissness that doesn't take card. But overall the inconvenience is not enough to keep me away I will be back for more of that delicious food.

I give 3 stars because of the amount you receive for to go order and Food is very good. Otherwise it would be a 1 star. But I asked rice for 3 people and charged shy of 18 dollars. If I would have known that I would have cooked it instead. For myself, even if the food is a 5 plus, I will never eat there or recomnd. With the amount of food that was ordered, why would I order this much freaking rice.

A hidden gem of San Francisco! It felt like a home cooked meal. The food was fresh, made to order, and tasted delicious. Atmosphere was great. The owner of the restaurant was very friendly and enthusiastic. Prices are unbeatable especially in SF. Will definitely be coming back.

Josie the owner greeted us and welcomed us to sit anywhere. The restaurant had lobster, crab, and seahorse decorations. While we waited for our food we watched the Filipino Channels. They also offer Kamayan and preset menu for groups. ~Drinks~ I got fresh Coconut Juice, it was refreshing. ~Food~ We got Bangsilog which comes with a boneless milkfish, garlic rice, two eggs, tomato and cucumber slices. I thought the milkfish could be a little bigger. The Sisigsilog also came with garlic rice, two eggs, tomato and cucumber slices. The Sisig was topped with fresh onion and green pepper. It didn't have crunchy pieces but it was still good. We finished everything and the portion was just right. The only thing I would request for when I come back is the egg, I prefer it to be sunny side up. I would come back here again. Customer Service was great and we enjoyed our food. Overall, 3.5 Stars and rounding it to 4. ~Customer Service~ Josie was very attentive and friendly. She even took the time to chat with us for a little bit. ~Tip~ Free WIFI just ask for the password ~Notes~ -ATM Machine -Street Parking -Indoor Seating -Catering Available

My first time visiting Cali/ San Francisco and I did not enjoy my meal. I’ve ate Filipino food many times and this is my least favorite. My sisig was badly burnt and the lumpia wasn’t very tasty. There is no logic to how they take/ bring out order. you can sit and order before other patrons and there foods come out first. I got meal before the couple who I met there before I arrived. So I could have easily been on the other end of that stick. 2 customers came in while I was there, sat and waited for 15 mins and no one came to serve them and they left and I don’t think the owners even noticed. Service is not great here.. imagine after getting my order ( pictured below ) I still had to go and ask for a refil of water after My cup was empty when they brought the food out.. Also charging $6 for RICE 🍚 is UNACCEPTABLE! First time ordering an entree that is supposed to be paired with rice but is not included and from the look of the people who sat next to me ( they ordered chicken adobo ) it also did not come with rice.. I mean I get asking for extra rice but it comes with ZERO rice and then they charge you $6 for it.. yes for plain rice! The menu says good for 2-3 people which doesn’t go well for a solo/ single diner. Left feeling unfulfilled with a $30 bill for an appetizer and an entree #burntsilog. Definitely won’t be getting my money again and I would strongly AVOID this place. Only reason they get 2 star and not 1 is because the owners seemed like nice people and were friendly. But their food let them down.. QUIT charging for plain regular rice especially when you know it should be included with the entree! NOT IMPRESSED!!!

Yelp
Not sure how accurate google is but I have been meaning to publish their amazing customer service here. It says that they are permanently closed?! If that is not accurate please go and support this place. Came here after our court wedding with 15+ people & they were accommodating & more! Bringing us back home with the tastiest Filipino food with the ambiance of grandma's house feel. We were going to order separate sides but we were told to order the Tatluhan Kamayan on Banana Leaves and we were happy to do so! So happy to be able to bring my culture to my friends and family on this special occasion.

Yelp
Oh no! Sad to hear this place closed. I totally forgot to write a review... The food was very good, heaping portions. ~ TATLUHAN - 4/5 Kamayan style, where food is served on a Banana lesf. Menu says this is good for three people, I'd say four or more, especially if you have small appetites. Definitely come hungry. Plenty of protein, our leftovers look like meals unto themselves. The sauces were made in house. Payments were still cash only, even in 2023

Yelp
I didn't have the opportunity to eat at the restaurant to enjoy the menu that so many craved about. I found this place by calling around looking to see who made Filipino tamales. This was the only place I found where it was available at the time. Other locations stop making them because they said it was too time consuming to make. I ordered a few to try for the holidays last year and they were very delicious; especially by my wife's standards. It was sad to see via Yelp that it is "permanently closed". Josie recently sold the resteraunt March 2024. Luckily, I saved Josie's cell number and contacted her directly to see if I can still order her Filipino tamales. I texted her and she was happy to take my order for 30 tamales! I will be picking up my order in 2 days at her home. Can't wait to surprise my wife for the holidays and enjoy them together.

Yelp
There aren't a lot of Filipino food restaurants in sf let alone kamayan style! This is a cash only restaurant. Came here for my birthday on a weekday early lunch. No frills, very homey style Filipino restaurant with an awesome selection of Filipino food. Many of my friends first time going there. Reasonably priced and delicious! Service was amazing. They accommodated for about 14 people and although we were waiting for a couple more people to arrive the person working said he'd start working on the kamayan ASAP so we wouldn't wait too long. I believe the two people working this day was a couple and perhaps the owners. They were very nice to us and seemed just as excited for my friends to try our food too and even explained what sauces went with which portion of the kamayan. They do give plates with Banana leaves and utensils can be used upon request but kamayan is meant to be eaten with your hands. Overall it was a very fun experience and I'd seriously consider coming again! I know my friends truly enjoyed this experience too. Crowd favorites (not pictured) lechon kawalli, lumpia, shrimp and their panict

Yelp
After having lunch, we decided to have dessert. I've had Pampanguena bookmarked because of the Halo Halo picture and was really looking forward to something like the picture. It was disappointing to bite into lots of ice! There were barely any jellies or toppings and the ube ice cream and ube jam were really small scoops compared to the mound of ice. So it was bland. The guy who took our order was pushing us to order more, so we got the Turon. Only 2 pieces compared to the 6 pieces in the photo on the menu. Basically tasted like banana egg rolls and you can taste the oil. I've definitely had better desserts elsewhere. Halo Halo - 2/5 Turon - 2/5 Was this an off day or did they run out of jellies, beans, ice cream...etc? Probably won't be back.

Yelp
If you want authentic Filipino food, come here with a large group!! There are so many options, their menu is super thick. But it tasted so amazing, & very affordable! We went with a group of 5 & split one of the big trays, then shared a halo halo at the end. There is also a hilarious Happy Birthday song, which is inevitably going to play while you're here because there are so many tables & lots of big parties come here. Plenty of seating, lots of food options, & very affordable. Only downside is that there are so many options it'll take a while to pick unless you go with someone who knows their Filipino food!!

Yelp
After a some bad Filipino food in Vegas, I had a strong craving for some good Filipino food and have had this place bookmarked for a while. It did not disappoint! Ordered the tatluhan for 2 people since we really wanted the grilled squid. It was HUGE and I have no regrets! Everything was cooked perfectly. Chicken was tender and flavorful and loved the pork. The mango/tomato/onion mix was so good mixed with the salted egg and fried shrimp and fried tilapia. The owner makes his own secret sauce that he recommended to dip the squid and pork in but I ended up dipping EVERYTHING in. Popped the fried food leftovers in the air fryer the next day and turned it into a silog (egg and garlic fried rice) breakfast. Sooo good! The owner was really sweet and made sure our water was full. He even told us his Spotify playlist he had playing. Loved the casual and comforting vibe here. Can't wait to come back to try their other dishes! Note: It's cash only here and there's an ATM at the end of the block if you don't have cash. There were plenty of metered parking spots ~6pm on a Sat night. Meters are free after 6pm M-Sat and free Sundays.

Yelp
Four of us came here and had the kamayan feast. The portions were just right! Absolutely order the feast with more rice. I loved every type of meat and seafood, so the combination on this feast was the perfect meal! When getting the feast, be prepared to wait about twenty minutes for your food but its worth it. Just a heads up in case you're coming here starving We also like to additionally thank this restaurant for serving us so close to their closing hours. Service was friendly.. Also, this restaurant is cash only! The parking here is like any other when finding parking in SF.

Yelp
Love this spot me and my girlfriend came here last night and it was her first time trying it. The restaurant looks different as before I think they did a remodel because there were no chairs in there last time I went. Customer service is amazing staff is really friendly and helpful. We ordered sisig, chicken skrewers, pinakbet , lumpia. We didn't order rice because we cooked rice at home We will be back soon! Thank you

Yelp
Great family style platter! Needed takeout for 7 people. Pampanguena has kamayan, a traditional Filipino communal feast for parties of 2,3,4, and 6. Ordered same day pick up via phone. No online ordering. Note, they have an old credit card reader which does not read certain cards, so bring enough cash, just in case. The food was ready at the scheduled time and packed tightly sealed in a reused cucumber box. Peeling away the foil revealed a generous feast laid on top of banana leaves. The meal including BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, Calamari, Fried Shrimps, Grilled Whole Talapia, Salted Eggs, Eggplant, Brocolli, Diced tomatoes and mango, and white rice with 6 banana leaf "plates". Everything tasted great! Lovely smokey flavor from the meats. Eggs mixed into the rice, tomato, and mango was a perfect balance of saltiness and sweetines. Animan kamayan (meal for 6 people) was enough for 7 people plus enough leftovers for 3 more servings. All my guests enjoyed this so much, they requested the restaurant information for their own future gatherings.

Yelp
This was a good place to grab Filipino food. It was a great value to get family style food with good flavor. It was a value to get so much food at a low price in San Francisco.

Yelp
Before I forget to mention it, this place is cash only!! Now, on to the review! Had dinner here with a Yelp Elite buddy because neither of us had been before. We arrived for an early meal and were greeted cordially by the two folks at the restaurant who were sitting around watching the news on TV, so you know this is definitely casual and a mom-and-pop kind of place! We looked at the extensive menu and I suggested the kamayan feast for 2 in order to get a variety of items (and it was very reasonably priced at $37.95). My dining companion also wanted garlic rice, so we requested that; I'm not sure if there was an extra charge or not. So, the waitperson brings our food after a short wait and it's this *huge* platter stacked with a ton of food! There was barbecued chicken, grilled pork, two salted eggs, Shanghai lumpia (yummy... so crispy), a whole grilled tilapia fish, a humongous pile of garlic rice, broccoli, eggplant, and a mango and tomato pico de gallo of sorts; definitely more food than any two people can eat!! There were also four types of sauce that accompanied the platter; a unique kind of soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce for the lumpia, vinegar, and shrimp paste (for the grilled pork, I think). Everything was tasty and pretty good, but the rice seemed like it might have been reheated older rice; it was not fluffy and moist the way I've had garlic rice before. But, it's not a deal breaker... I would still return for another meal. I just wonder if you can order the kamayan feast for 2 and have 3 or 4 people there!?

Yelp
Such a fun and delicious feast. Perfect if u like eating family style and trying lots of things. Service on the slower side as there were only a few workers and it's a family business, but well worth the wait. My favorite part was the crispy whole fish and the salted eggs. Portions are ginormous such a great deal!

Yelp
A cozy, chill and friendly restaurant with a deliciously insane menu! They don't mess around here, Filipinos intend to feed you and fill, you, UP because gotta make sure you have baon to take home! Ate family style with good friends. The salted egg rice mango combo is the best thing and all the dishes all around were delicious! Halo halo also did not disappoint, reminded me of childhood. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
GREAT FILIPINO FOOD & KAMAYAN-STYLE EXPERIENCE I was craving some Filipino food one afternoon and came across this restaurant through a quick Yelp search, and it didn't disappoint one bit. This is a must if you want to bring your family and/or friends to have a mini boodle fight with some delicious Filipino food! Food: 5/5 Delicious food and beautiful presentation of that food makes for a good food experience. Pampanguena Cuisine has a fairly large menu with options of regular dishes or platters to share Kamayan style (platters meant to be shared with family and/or friends like a mini boodle fight). We got the "Tatluhan" platter, which has Chicken/pork BBQ, Grilled Tilapia, Grilled Squid, Flitter Shrimp, Salted Egg, Lumpiang Shanghai, Mango/Tomato/Onion, Broccoli, Steamed Eggplant, and Steamed Rice in the middle - all of these are served on top of some banana leaves. It all tasted so authentic and something I definitely want to come back for! Service: 4/5 I don't remember if it was because of Covid safety protocols, but we were seated outside on the sidewalk during a slow weekday afternoon. We probably saw our waiter twice the entire visit, and we didn't get to ask for more water and other things we needed at the time. But our waiter was so polite and we enjoyed our food regardless!

Yelp
I have been going to Pampanguena Restaurant for years to buy pancit. I always ordered take out. Last year Josie told me she was probably going to close in March, 2024. I went there to get pancit in February and went back in March only to find the placed locked up and dark. I happened to walk by in April and saw people inside so I went in. Josie told me that new management was taking over and the restaurant would have a reopening. I think their plans might have changed.

Yelp
5/5 stars hands DOWN. Kamayan-style has been tough to find for me but this was conveniently located in the Excelsior/Mission area. Finding a table for two was fairly easy on a Friday night. I'd recommend coming here early so you can get a table further inside as the nights become cooler when the door continuously opens and closes. My friend and I split the Dalawahan (2) which comes with hefty scoops of white rice, steamed veggies (i.e. broccoli and eggplant), salsa (tomato/onion/mango medley), two salted hardboiled eggs, lumpia, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, and a whole fried tilapia fish all served on banana leaves. You can choose to eat with your hands (aka true kamayan style) but they'll give you utensils. The employees here are so nice and sweet. The only minor downsides are that you cannot substitute any of the meats or for vegetarian lumpias. They also do not take reservations unless you have a party of 10 or more. Lastly, parking can be a little bit of a challenge but if you circle around and go into the residential areas, you'll be able to find it after 6pm.

Yelp
Eighteen of us came here for dinner on a Friday evening. Some never had the Kamayan experience. We ordered 2 kamayans and Kare kare, lechon Kawali, extra lumpia's, dinaguan, sissig and chicken adobo. Ordering two kamayan was just right. Everything on the platter was excellent from the fish to the bbq pork, squid, lumpia's, shrimp etc. We had asked to swap out for garlic rice but that didn't happen. Some really enjoyed the peanut sauce in The kare kare. I especially liked how they used oxtail. By the time I got The lechon and sissig at my end of the table it was cold. I thought the Dinaguan was cold when I got it. The staff was very accommodating. We also had a large Mochi babingka pancake for dessert. It was a perfect way to end the meal. Everyone was happy as our entire meal cost $29 per person. I do wish there were no utensils at all so everyone could enjoy the kamayan experience but that was not the case. I've been to another restaurant that lines the entire table with leaves and dumps all the rice, food and condiments in the middle.

Yelp
Been looking for places that have the kamayan feast for years since a local Filipino restaurant near me discontinued this item. I was so excited when I saw that this place has several different kamayan feasts to choose from. We got the feast for two and the three of us had plenty to eat with more than enough leftovers to have for the next day. It came with grilled fish, chicken, pork, lumpia, salted egg, eggplant, broccoli, mangoes, tomatoes. It was quite a feast, indeed! The grilled fish was a little on the bland side, but it helped that they gave four different tasty sauces to add to the food. The chicken was moist and delicious. Pork was tasty but a little tough and fatty. Lumpia was crispy and delicious. Was able to call in the order in advance and it was ready in about 25 minutes. I love how they still make it presentable for takeout orders with the leaves and presentation was just beautiful. cost was reasonable at $33. I paid an extra $3 for garlic fried rice, which was really good and they gave quite a bit of it. The total cost with tax was $39. Make sure to bring cash because I completely forgot until I saw the signs. there is ample metered street parking. We definitely want to come back.

Yelp
Came here last night with a party of 5 and had a great experience! We came only 30 mins before they were about to close (I feel bad about this) but they were so nice and encouraged us to stay. We ordered a set for 4 people and added on veggie lumpia and pan it. There was plenty of food and everything was so delicious! My favorite was the bbq chicken, it was super flavorful and had a sweet sauce over it. I'll definitely be back and would recommend this place for groups!
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
One of the few Filipino restaurants in SF. We ordered the 2 people meal on banana leaves, and added adobong chicken and pancit Filipino vermecilli since my friend doesn't like seafood. It was really yummy especially the bbq pork, grilled pork, adobong chicken, and lumpia. The grilled tilapia was good too. They played American pop music in the background, which is a nice ambiance since it was quiet on a Saturday night probably cause it was pouring rain outside. They gave us water that had lemon and cucumber in the pitcher, and had great service. It's wonderful that SF/Daly City has the biggest Filipino community, so I hope more people will try Filipino food and expose their palate to more diversity!

Yelp
Some of the best lumpia shanghai I've ever had! Tray of 100 = $41, but please don't tell anyone how many pieces I sneak-eat in the car on the way to bringing it an event. Will be back for a kamayan feast experience!

Yelp
I don't know much about Filipino cuisine except that I used to be able to eat a plate of lumpia in no time at all. Of course that was back in high school when we had Asian potluck lunches. I've seriously had Filipino food a handful of times ever since, and that's a real long time. I had heard about this place before since it's been around since 2010. It was a casual spot with a bit of the tropics in its decor, and the owner Josie had a nurturing vibe that made me feel quite at home. I had no predilection of what to order as I needed Josie's help in understanding the difference among all the silog breakfast plates - adobo, bang, long, toci, tuyo...and on and on. I settled on the $11.95 Sisigsilog Breakfast because sisig is made from the throwaway parts of the pig - the face, the belly, the liver - all the innards (and outards) I like. It came with a couple of over-easy fried eggs, slices of cucumber and tomato, a bit of salad, and a scoop of garlic rice (photo: https://bit.ly/3OWPyqW). Good, homestyle eats. FOOD - 4 stars...solid comfort food, Filipino style AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars... definitely has that Manila street cafe vibe SERVICE - 4.5 stars...Josie was kind and helpful in a maternal way TOTAL - 4 stars...satisfying for a hearty breakfast appetite RELATED - Exploring the Excelsior? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/37B1acE

Yelp
Pampanguena Cuisine is a fantastic restaurant that offers exceptional food and top-notch customer service. The dishes are delicious, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Overall, it's a great place to dine out and enjoy delicious Filipino food. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I'm half Kapampangan, and this place reminds me of home. The food does take a little while to get to you, enough for me to walk down the street to get some cash and back before it was served. But I think it was worth it. They gave us a *catastrophic* amount of kare-kare to start. It was thick and hearty, but not too rich, and the oxtails inside were super tender and moist. Pair it with lots of the included bagoong. Then we had some pork adobo, and it seriously tasted almost exactly how my made it when I was a kid. I had one of those Ratatouille-esque flashback moments with the first bite. Tangy and salty and rich and simple. I had a friend with me who I wanted to show Filipino food off to, and Pampanguena did not disappoint. The woman who I assume is the chef even came out and packed our leftovers for us like a caring Filipino auntie. We left *incredibly* full and I was happy to share my culture a little bit.

Yelp
We were in San Francisco visiting friends and Pampanguena Cuisine was suggested for our dinner. This Filipino restaurant is famous for their mini boodle fight, which is a plate of mixed food that is meant to be shared among friends and families while eating with bare hands. They had 4 different selections to choose from, but it was pretty much the same food items with more quantity. Sisig was also recommended by the restaurant so we got that as well. It took awhile for the food to come out, but we were catching up so it didn't bother us. When the plate arrived to the table, it was seriously the coolest thing ever. We could only imagine if all those food were presented on a long table for everyone to share. The star of the meal was actually the dipping sauce. We were told which sauce was for what food, but we tried everything with everything and they were amazing regardless what it was. Most unique item on the plate was the salted eggs, we had no idea it was meant to be eaten with diced veggies. Our favorite was easily the grilled pork. Sisig on the other hand wasn't the style we liked, so it wasn't as enjoyable as the boodle fight. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and the service was warm and friendly. We would recommend this place to try, especially if you are into Filipino food.

Yelp
No wait for a friday night - idk why because it's such a good place!!! Lots of chairs and tables to sit at. Friendly owners, very good service. Their food is also great. It's so cheap for what you get. We got the "for 3 people"- and I swear u can even share it with 5 people for the amount it had. Their garlic rice was the best! You also get pork bbq, beef with such a great sauce, lumpia, veggies, squid, and fried tilapia. They provide all the sauces you need!

Yelp
Move over Isla, Pampanguena is where it's at! I've never left a Filipino restaurant without feeling gross from the oil. Pampanguena grills and steams their food and it is amazing. Took my dad here and he confirmed it's truly authentic. Can't wait to be back! Dont forget to get the Leche flan and halo halo- it isn't too sweet and has perfect texture. Thank you Lan!

Yelp
Was craving for Filipino food while in San Francisco on vacation during December 2015 and came across many of the positive reviews for Pampanguena. So we decided to give it a try unfortunately with dismal results. The food was not what we were expecting, I'd say mediocre at best.

Yelp
We ordered the kare kare, dinaguan, chop suey vegetables, lechon kawali, sisig and rice. The service was good and the owners were friendly and grateful. They forgot the bagoong to go with the kare kare. I like a sautéed bagoong but they had the very pink type. The best fish was the chop suey. We would want to try their breakfast silog dishes and others as well. Prices were moderate to high. Spent quite a bit for 4 of us, but can always look again to try lot provide the best tasting and the best prices.

Yelp
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: - The owners Lan and Josie have been in business since 2007, that's 14 years! - Pampanguena Cuisine has been featured on Lasang Pinoy & Adobo Nation. - Mostly known for their Kamayan ( prices varies depending on guests 2-6 people ) - Owners are super friendly, attentive and quick - CASH ONLY DUE TO COVID! - CLOSED ON MONDAY & TUESDAYS In the Bay Area, it is tough finding a Filipino restaurant that serves quality food comparable to your mom's or lola's home-cooked meals. Since the whole pandemic, I could say my parents have gotten more lazy cooking and became more dependent on ordering food for to-go. Yesterday morning I woke up craving Filipino breakfast since it's been so long. Through trial and error of planning (most places were to go or closed) , we stumbled upon Pampanguena's Cuisine on Yelp! I thought this place would be perfect to treat out my SO to bring back some nostalgia since he was born and raised in the PI. So glad we managed to find this hidden gem. Since it is quiet a drive coming from SJ we grew even more hungry as we got closer. Once we arrived we figured that we should settle for the Kamayan for 2 and order Kare Kare. DALAWAHAN (5/5): CHICKEN OR PORK BBQ GRILLED PORK GRILLED TILAPIA HOMEMADE KIMCHI: MANGO, TOMATOES AND ONIONS LUMPIANG SHANGHAI STEAMED WHITE RICE ( YOU CAN OPT IN FOR GARLIC RICE FOR EXTRA $ ) GRILLED EGGPLANTS & BROCCOLI SALTED EGG ** EVERYTHING and I mean everything was delicious! If I was to name our favorites it would be the BBQ, Grilled Pork, Tilapia and Salted Egg with the Homemade Kimchi! All the sauces that was given paired perfectly with all the meats. The only thing my SO & I didn't care for was the broccoli. The portions & quality for the price is a bang for your buck! In the future, it would be nice to see them consider making breakfast Kamayan! KARE KARE ( 3/5 ): If I could name my favorite Filipino dish it would be Kare Kare. This dish was rich/creamy, meat was tender and fell off the bone easily but it seemed to me that there was more vegetables than meat. Regardless of how much I love Kare Kare, for that reason I won't be ordering this when I return in the future. Kind of felt ripped off with this one. In conclusion, my SO & I loved Pampanguena and can't wait to bring family and friends the next time to try the bigger Kamayan's!

Yelp
Wow, I've never had Filipino food quite like this! First and foremost, even though there's a sign that says cash only, they will accept credit cards. They just prefer cash. This restaurant is located on mission in a part of the city that I don't usually come to. The outside doesn't have much curb appeal and inside, it definitely has a very homey vibe but their food amazing! We ordered the set for 2 and there was a good amount of food with a nice variety!! Makes me wanna come back and get the set for 3, just so I can take home more leftovers. Parking can be challenging and sketchy. All metered nearby or you can try your luck in the residential area. Service was super SUPER upbeat and friendly!! There was a bit of wait, about 30 minutes to get our food because they were super busy and one guy was running around like he was in the game Diner Dash All tables were full on a weekday around 1pm and everyone was ordering the set meal so definitely get yourself here to try some food!!

Yelp
HIGHLY recommend Pampanguena Cuisine!!! I called yesterday in the early evening and spoke with Josie who was extremely accommodating and allowed me to place a rather large pick-up order for today (Mother's Day) even though they were obviously going to be busy. Everything was ready on time and my mom absolutely LOVED her surprise lunch. I ordered a kamayan for 3, sinigang na baboy, pancit, pork sisig, turon and flan. The quality/value of every single dish was outstanding!!! Also, the fact that they offer kamayan/boodle fight platters to-go is AWESOME. I can't believe that I am only discovering this spot now, but I'm suuuuuper glad that I did. p.s. I reheated the meat/seafood on the kamayan that we ordered (for 3 ppl), rearranged the items, and made the rice into a heart for my mom :) (just wanted to give a heads up so people don't expect the restaurant to do this). :) Thank you soooo much, Josie!!! My family and I are SO happy that we found your restaurant, and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
It was my dad's 88h bday and I wanted to order pansit. I've never tried this place and wanted to support my neighborhood. I ordered 2 orders of pansit. My wife picks it up and they tell me it's all in 1 box for $35.00. Really!!! All other Filipino & Asian restaurants, that's 1 order. It was mostly noodles, dry, and not good. Don't go here. They take advantage of people and rip you off. Better go elsewhere!!

Yelp
A must for an authentic Filipino boodle fight aka kaymayan feast. The boodle fight presentation is beautifully displayed and most importantly delicious!! There's not many places in the Bay area that offers this experience, at least not that I know of. The amount of food you get is insane especially for the price, (soooo reasonable). Even if you come here starving it's a guarantee you'll have leftovers to enjoy for later. My Filipino mom also approved...she's very picky when it's not her cooking

Yelp
Finally found a Pinoy restaurant within the city!!! It is beyond expectations. Group of 7 friends vacationing and we certainly enjoyed every dish specially the Kamayan Animan feast. Super delicious and we ate by hand! Definitely a go to place when in town.

Yelp
My family has been coming to this place for years! Delicious authentic Filipino food at its finest. If you're trying to introduce someone to the culture, the "kamayan" platters are the way to go. We got a "Dalawahan," which came with grilled tilapia, chicken bbq, mango salsa, brocolli, eggplant, lumpia and salted eggs with an assortment of different sauces that compliment the dishes. I took the mango bits and added some bagoong to it, if you know you know! This place took me back home. They also have a sink within the dining area if you end up using your kamay! The servers/titos/tita's was on top of making sure we were enjoying everything. This gem will forever be one of my top spots to eat at!!

Yelp
My husband noticed that the whole place was empty when we arrived. I was so eager to boodle fight that I completely ignored my hubby's comment and brushed it off to just being early when they just opened. Should have seen this as a huge RED FLAG. All the missing reviewers are right. BBQ meats are old and only reheated after you order. We ordered my favorite Laing too which didn't taste like my usual order from other authentic Filipino restaurants. My Filipino husband said it's from a different region? Presentation wise, the Kamayan meal looked very appetizing until you dig in. Tired it once and that's all that I needed to find another place for a boodle fight.

Yelp
Food was ok for the most part and the service would have been good if not for the waiter arguing with a person in our group about their missing order which we all heard her order. Kind of pointless and strange.

Yelp
Dine In during Cocid Overall: 7.5/10 I enjoyed the Tatluhan 3 guests plate a lot! With $44.95, you get a generous amount of good food for 2 hungry adults! Yelp
This is a fun little spot when you want to eat with your hands family style! They serve a variety of Filipino dishes which all taste homey and delicious, however what sets them apart is their Kamayan feast. Kamayan is a table spread of food, all on banana leaves. You're meant to eat with your hands right off the leaves! How fun is that! It might just be the asian in me, but I honestly love eating without utensils! I feel like the food tastes so much better lol Kamayan is available only if you are ordering one of their multi-person offerings. It's a pretty determined mix of veggie, fish, meat and salty egg. You can also order single dishes as well, or other combos. I haven't dined here at all since Covid so I can't tell you how they're doing take out but I really hope to see this place continue to thrive so I can visit in restaurant once again! Important- cash only!

Yelp
Just a reminder, this place is cash only! Due to Covid, I don't go out to eat very often anymore so I failed to check if credit cards were accepted here. Luckily, the owners were super nice and I was able to quickly get some cash nearby. I got their kamayan for 2 and leche flan. Both had huge portions and very reasonably priced! My bf never had kamayan before so it was nice to see them incorporate the banana leaves in the takeout order so we can still experience it at home. It came with meats/fish, lumpias, salted eggs, veggies, rice, and salsa. Everything was delicious as well! The flan was also very creamy and dense! Parking was easy to find, but it might be a little more difficult once the world goes back to "normal". I would highly recommend calling in to check their hours since they were actually closing early the day I went. Overall, I'll definitely come back here to check out their other dishes or whenever I want a feast!

Yelp
We wanted to try something different. Found this place on yelp. So glad we did! Everything was delicious. Their lumpia is the best I have ever had! Their prices are so reasonable for the quality/quantity you get. This place is not known for its decor, definitely more of a dive. They also offer catering. Owners are very friendly and service is good. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Absolutely amazingly delicious, authentic Gourmet Filipino food. I love their lumpia party platters, which are always a sure hit at any picnic or party! Safety protocols in place and incredibly beautiful family run business.

Yelp
"Wow! Wow! Wow!" is what you'll repeat as you eat outside and do the Mmmmm, It's So Good Dance!. I was out in the city and wanted to eat Filipino food but at a sit down restaurant. To my luck, they answered the phone, informed me that they have available outside dining, and would have a table ready ASAP. I arrived and was greeted immediately with a set table. So from the start, EXCELLENT customer service! Although we were a party of 2, we went and ordered the Kamayan Feast for 3 which was what our waitress recommended so we would get the grilled squid and shrimp. I took her word on it and I am glad that I did! The set up is a colorful big portion of food that is balanced perfectly i.e steamed rice, grilled squid, fried shrimp with the head on (fried to perfection so you can eat the entire shrimp), steamed broccoli and eggplant, mango/onion/tomato/salted egg salad, grilled pork (with some fat on it because Hey! that is where the flavor is!), bbq chicken, and grilled boneless bangus. It is the perfect meal to share with family and friends. Bonus? The price is right! Sarap food and GREAT company which includes the owners of the place. DO NOT PASS UP ON DESERT! The turon is SOOO GOOOD! You have to get it! Like me, you will probably end up getting an order to go hahaha. Out of the many turons I have tried at family parties and other restaurants, this one is my favorite. It is not to sweet or highly caramelized that the outside is to hard to bite. It is just perfect. Just order it!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had I an early dinner here after exploring SF and doing touristy stuff. We had the restaurant all to ourselves. We ordered Filipino beef steak, the mango/tomato/onion salad with salted egg, pinakbet, deep fried bangus, and garlic fried rice. The beef steak was tender and had a rich gravy. Super comforting and delicious. The pinakbet was perfectly cooked. Veggies were crisp and fresh. The bangus was crispy, meaty and paired so well with the tomato salad. The garlic fried rice was indulgent. The waitress was polite, sweet, hospitable and I really felt like I was at home.
