The Best New Restaurants In Austin: The Austin Hit List - Austin - The Infatuation

"Since starting as a food truck in 2015, Paperboy has reigned over Austin’s brunch scene. So good luck getting a last-minute weekend reservation at the new South Lamar location, where tables are already booking out weeks in advance. The menu is identical to the East Side counterpart, as are the vibes—bright and boisterous. Even on a Wednesday morning, the place is packed, with tables covered in lattes, cinnamon toast, and BECs. We can confirm that the pancake is still delicious and so thick you might confuse it for cornbread. The mushroom grits with leek chili crisp are pretty good too. Come here before Paperboy’s waiting list rivals the Nintendo Switch." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary, nicolai mccrary

Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings - Austin - The Infatuation

"Nobody speaks brunch quite like Paperboy, and now the buzzy morning/afternoon restaurant has a second location, this time on South Lamar. Expect to find the same classic menu of BECs, avocado tostadas, pancakes, and more. If this location is anything like the original, you’ll want to make a reservation soon if you plan on visiting for a weekend brunch before summer’s over." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Absolutely amazing experience at the newest Paperboy location! Garage Parking was easy to find and free, just a short walk away to the entrance. There are both indoor & outdoor seating options. The host was very friendly and sat us down quickly. Everything we ordered was absolutely amazing! The lox shareable plate is A MUST! So many wonderful flavors blending together for the perfect bite. The steak & eggs plate was portioned very well and cooked to perfection. The fries were crispy & freshly made. The chicken & waffles plate was delicious and the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The blueberry pancake was the perfect dessert for us! One is enough for two of us as they are thick! The vibes were the perfect environment for brunch. We will definitely be back!

So happy to try the new Paperboy location on South Lamar. The outdoor seating had a nice vibe to it. The music was a little loud, but they willing turned it down. Our waiter, Daniel, went out of his way to ensure our visit was as pleasant as possible. The prices are a little steep, but I must say, the food was excellent. Substitutions were welcomed. Generous slabs of crispy bacon made me happy. Their signature thick, buttered toast was a meal by itself. My partner praised the migas. A small but nice side benefit was the bike racks close to the entrance.

A decent brunch restaurant. The Frozen Creamsicle and the Pop Tart were incredible, but definitely divisive with my party. The Texas hash was okay too. The other diners I was with didn’t enjoy the seasoning on the potato wedges or the Smashburger more generally but I thought they were okay. I wouldn’t say the Biscuit Basket is particularly worth it just based on the size of them. All in All, whilst I really liked it, I’m not sure it’s the best value for money.

Google
Incredible breakfast! First time here and glad we tried it. We both had the Lox. Outstanding. The combo was perfect- just enough of everything. Not a traditional Lox- it had a smear that was fantastic along with fresh dill, roasted tomatoes and pieces of grilled bread. I am not sure what else was in it but it was, as I stated, outstanding. The wait was not bad and plenty of parking- there is some free outside and then a garage they validate the first hour.

Google
Similar experience just like paperboy in the original location, friendly staff, excellent service and best of all, really really good food. We are talking about pastries, and we're talking about all the breakfast needs and we're talking really strong coffee for you to start off the day. It was def not busy on a weekday morning and lots of tables and booths. Everything was great in terms of operations and the staff having it all together, and the only minor hindrance was the specifically with the parking garage. Brand spanking new building so you want to park on the right hand side next to paperboy cuz that lot is free, while the other lot on the left hand side is 1-hour free parking and then after that you're going to have to pay but the metropolis app and everything makes it pretty seamless. Overall a great experience I would definitely go back and get all the pastries, Let's get this bread

This place is phenomenal. Service was excellent, very kind hosts, food is just incredible. We got a paperboy pancake and the fried chicken biscuit with gravy, and it was probably the yummiest thing I have eaten in Austin. The lil remi coffee was also the yummiest cherry on top of the brunch. I absolutely would return!

Google
The brunch vibes are immaculate. When I say I want American diner food that is elevated and bougie this is what I mean! Aesthetically pleasing, parking covered in garage, and the pancakes are fluffy. Only thing missing would be a “pour over” coffee option and I’d probably eat here everyday. Throughly enjoyed my visit there “Daniel” definitely was an amazing waiter. His table etiquette was phenomenal and he was very helpful on a menu that I wasn’t familiar with. Can’t wait to bring friends and family here. Thank you all for such a great experience!

Came there on Sunday and waiting time was around 2 hours. We joined waiting list and went for a coffee and walk. We end up actually get our seat in 45 min. It was worth waiting. For me - it’s the most tasty breakfast/brunch menu in Austin.

Yelp
I lOVE Paperboy and have dined at the East location several times. I was so happy when I found out that they opened a location around the corner from my house! Sadly for us, but awesome for the restaurant, it is still hard as heck to get a reservation. Failing to find a reservation online for a Sunday at 12:30, I decided to stop by and check the waitlist. We were quoted...wait for it...a 2 hour wait!!! We decided to give it at least an hour if we weren't close, we had decided that we were going to give up and leave. Lucky for us, we got our text after an hour! I figured most people would give up and remove their name from the waitlist. The only downside to their waitlist is that you can only see on Opentable that you are on it, but not where you are on the list. They have a large outdoor patio with several fans so it was nice. The cold brew martini was amazing and desperately needed after my hangover! The only negative about dining later in the day is that they were out of quite a few things, so that was a bummer. We were not deterred and instead, opted for the avocado tostado but subbed for toast and added salmon, fried egg over easy, pickled onions, and sliced jalapeños. It was amazing!! We also shared the mushroom grits which were interesting and really good and as always, the cheddar hashbrown was a winner. The hostess, Kayley was so sweet & patient. When you work at a high volume restaurant, it can get quite stressful and even though there was a constant line, she handled it well and kept cool! It can be a thankless job, so THANK YOU for maintaining your professionalism.

Yelp
The locally acclaimed Paperboy has now opened their South location right across from the Ramen Tatsuya and right in front of the nice new Bouldin! Paperboy has been an East Austin staple for many years now and the fact it continues to have a long wait time is both a peeve of mine as well as a testament to their food. There's a large parking garage available to patrons when you drive down the center of the property and the first hour is free. Paperboy offers a pickup option if you don't have enough time to eat there or want to take it to-go for lunch. Known for primarily their breakfast cuisine, I love their entire menu. I rarely go for breakfasts anymore, but they have a great burger and the kale salad is now a weekly staple for me as it is both delicious and nutritious. They have a decently sized outdoor patio and some fans to survive the summers, but I'd imagine this place will continue to blow up even further as the weather cools down in the Fall.

Yelp
I am such a huge fan of Paperboy, and not just because the first brick & mortar location is a three-minute walk from my apartment. I am spoiled and lucky. However, I am often on this side of town, on Lamar, and thought it would be great to check out this second location. This location is just as popular as the east side! I strongly suggest reservations! I am glad we made them. Heck, even living down the street from the 11th street location, I still make reservations. Otherwise, you're probably looking at a medium to lengthy wait. No matter if you book ahead or decide to get on line, IT IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! The quality of the food and service is as perfect as the first location. Fresh and delicious ingredients for elevated comfort food. Lovely and airy decor. Lots of parking, yay. Do yourself a favor and check out this location. Seriously good stuff.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Poptarts will sell out quickly, do yourselves a favor and secure one for your tastebuds. Oh and the hash browns. Must order. Fantastic experience! Service, quality of food and drink top notch, and ambiance fun with a twist of modern diner vibes. While I was intrigued by the guava matcha lemonade, I stuck with the guava lemonade and it was both refreshing and plenty satisfying. Using actual guava pulp, it wasn't overly sweet, although I didn't mind diluting it to extend my drinking experience. The hash was wonderful. Wish there were two eggs, instead of one, especially because poached doesn't account for the whole egg. Highly suggest the kitchen changes order to have two eggs (although the order of one is true to the menu description). Prices are certainly on the "city" higher end. I'd rate this as a brunch spot I look forward to returning to, a regular even!

Yelp
I was so happy to hear that Paperboy opened up a 2nd location on South Lamar! Hopefully this will help manage overall demand decrease wait times across both the locations now. That being said, we arrived at 2PM for Sunday brunch today in order to avoid the brunch rush hour but there was still a 20 minute wait haha. It was my friend's first time so we ended up sharing everything so that we could try multiple dishes together. The Chicken & Biscuit is a MUST if you love a sweet, savory combination and I appreciated that the gravy wasn't too heavy or thick to complement the dish. We also ordered the Texas Hash because it sounded like a healthier option and ended up pairing well with the fried chicken. To end our meal on a sweet note, we tried the Paperboy Pancake, and if you love corn bread, you'll absolutely love this dish! Unlike the standard pancake consistency, the outside edges of this pancake was crispy, the inside was fluffy like corn bread, and the brown butter wasn't too heavy or overpowering. Even if the wait times might be longer than usual, it's always worth the wait every time! PARKING: As of 6/29/25, there is free parking behind the establishment in the parking garage connected to the building.

Yelp
This was a new location that just opened a few weeks ago, and they are doing fantastic so far. The staff was extremely friendly, it was easy to get a seat, and the food was outstanding. It was a little too hot to sit on their outdoor patio, but the inside was bright, well laid out, and had plenty of seating.

Yelp
This new location opened in June. It is fresh and new in every way. I ordered a Bloody Mary--they make the mix there and it was very good. L ordered eggs over ez and cheese grits. I went for Migas and cheesy hash browns. He commented that the eggs were perfectly cooked. My Migas dish was excellent and the cheesy hash browns were awesome. Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. The environment was welcoming.

Yelp
I always thought that people might have been too obsess with this place but now I get why! If you are in a hurry, you will want to make reservations months in advance, but if not, I recommend putting yourself in the list, run some errands and coming back. The food was AMAZING, so far the best brunch I have had in Austin. All the pastries and anything with carbs are over the top, do not miss the pancakes! Service was fast and people were super friendly.

Yelp
The place was so beautiful!! I felt like I was somewhere coastal! You can easily pass it, but once you know where it's at, the rest is a breeze. Parking is plenty behind the restaurant. The wait was under an hour. All the staff were very friendly. The wait for the food did not take long. It was fresh and delicious. I highly enjoyed the visit. Def recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Best brunch in Austin. You must make a reservation. Outdoor seating is shaded. Pancakes or made with a cast iron. Oj is freshly squeezed daily. If you have family in town, take them here. Great service, everything is freshly made as you order so it take about 5 more mins than usual for your food to come. Worth every penny.

Yelp
Y U M! I loved the East Side location and was stoked to try the new South Lamar location. I booked a reservation for the patio on a Sunday at 10:30. We arrived 10 minutes early and they were slammed. The patio had fans so it wasn't miserably hot. Our server was amazing and told us to order a shareable because the food could take a while and he was right. We got the ham and Gruyère empanada to hold us over and my goodness, I would love to crush one of those every morning. The flakiness was beautifully done and the filling was amazing. We got the pancake to share and let me tell you - they put the CAKE in pancake. It was so thick and fluffy. I have no idea what they put in that butter but my goodness, it makes it a million times better. You cannot go wrong with the cheese hashbrown. It is so crispy and the green onions on it tie it all together. The Texas Hash is more on the lunch side. It looks kinda small but is extremely filling. The Classic Breakfast was classic. Nothing more to really add, but the seasonal peach jam was tasty. Cannot wait to go again!

Yelp
What a treat being able to visit their second location in the first opening week! My sister and I enjoyed a nice brunch on their patio. It was private and cozy, even while facing the busy Lamar street. Our server, Daniel, had the best descriptions and gave really great recommendations. He's also a hero for safely removing a wasp sipping on my sister's coffee. 10/10 service I had their Emerald City (matcha lemonade) and the Chicken & Biscuit. My sister had the Texas Hash with avocado and a lavender latte. The emerald city is a refreshing and light on the sweetness. The chicken & biscuit was our servers rec and very grateful for it. Chicken was juicy yet crispy, well seasoned and lightly drizzled plate with spicy honey. Biscuit had a fluffy bounciness. I love when they do a soft scramble omelette type Texas hash had pretty good carnitas and the pecan mole was really a nice compliment. I wish they had a bit more throughout the plate. I love a good poached egg, well executed. I didn't try her latte as I'm not a fan of lavender, but she and the wasp seemed to like it. Thank you Paper Boy, best wishes on your expansion.

Yelp
The vibes of this place is great. They've done a great job with the space. The only downside is that its view is of the road, but there isn't much to be done with that. The restaurant is a part of an apartment building complex and there is parking in the garage below the restaurant. The system wasn't running yet so we didn't have to pay for parking at the end of June when I went. I asked if it will be validated in the future but they weren't sure yet. I highly recommend it. I met up with a friend for coffee on a weekday. They accommodated my toddler by providing a high chair and water in a cup with a straw. We tried the pop tart and the ham and cheese empanada. Both were good, the empanada was a little burnt on the outside but the inside was flavorful. The pop tart was homemade and not overly sweet. My friend lives nearby and has been to that location multiple times. She loves the menu and loves that its easy to pop in for coffee. I'll be back (if they validate) when I'm in the area!

Yelp
Service was terrific, food was just okay. Asked for soft-scrambled eggs and they were hard-cooked. The Paperboy pancake is interesting, but there's nothing in the menu description to indicate that it's more of a Dutch baby or clafoutis than a regular pancake. Not sure the iced tea was fresh. Maybe other parts of the menu are a better choice. We were on the dog-friendly patio, which was unbelievably noisy between the Lamar traffic and ongoing construction right next to the restaurant. So not a great pick if you want to chat with your companions over a meal. The restaurant obvs has a devoted following, so this was only our experience.

Yelp
The service was wonderful. Made reservations for breakfast to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and they went above and beyond to make us feel special. Food was amazing as always. Thank you for making our day!

Yelp
Had brunch today for an early Father's Day celebration. My wife, myself, and our 3 kiddos. Had such a wonderful experience! Glad we made reservations. They were out of all the shareable except for the blueberry lemon roll (which we ordered and it was a hit for the whole family). Our kids shared two paperboy blueberry pancakes (made it a breakfast which added 2 eggs with bacon or sausage). Wifey and I ate the Chicken & Biscuit each. Everything was so flavorful and absolutely hit the spot! Thanks for a memorable meal with my family!! We'll be back for special occasions!

Yelp
Strongly recommends this place. All the drinks and food we ordered are good. Definitely will come back again.
