"Pho Ga Vang, a Vietnamese restaurant with locations in Falls Church, Virginia, as well as Philadelphia and Atlanta, is throwing its hat in the New York ring. The chef and owner opened in Chinatown — the same block as Golden Diner and Vietnamese American bakery, Bánh by Lauren. The Virginia location made Washingtonian’s 100 best restaurants for 2024 list. There are several types of pho here, but of course, you can’t go wrong with the namesake, and the spring rolls are some of the best in town, according to Eater critic Robert Sietsema." - Emma Orlow, Eater Staff

"Chinatown has a new spot for pho. Phở Gà Vàng is a small chain with locations in Philly, the DC metro area, Atlanta, Vegas, and now, New York. They specialize in chicken pho, but have a pretty big variety, from beef pho to lemongrass grilled chicken-over-rice platters." - will hartman

"A transplant with one other location in Falls Church, Virginia, Phở Gà Vàng is a stripped-down spot with a knack for chicken phò. The Two Bridges dining room is bright and casual as a cafeteria, with a hodgepodge of kitschy, poultry-themed art that pays tribute to the house speciality. Order the traditional chopped chicken pho, and you’ll receive a heap of noodles soaked in a cloudy broth that tastes like pure schmaltz. The gravitational pull of that broth is almost enough to cancel plans over, but most other dishes—like the grilled shrimp over vermicelli noodles—are simply good and satisfying. Use this place for casual group dinners, and keep in mind they occasionally run out of items. Brisket and Diet Coke, for example. photo credit: Bryan Kim Food Rundown photo credit: Bryan Kim Traditional Chopped Chicken Phò There’s nothing complex about this broth. It tastes like exactly one thing: the pure, sweet, and salty essence of long-simmered chicken. The flavor clings to the noodles, and the juicy, bone-in chicken on top adds a little heft to your meal. photo credit: Bryan Kim Shredded Boneless White Meat Chicken Phò Same deal, different chicken on top. Bone-in is better, but you do you. photo credit: Bryan Kim Grill Pork Rice If you’re skipping phò (or supplementing your order), this sweet, charred, and thinly sliced pork is the correct choice." - Bryan Kim

Chicken pho from Philly

Cozy place for chicken pho! I ordered half a chicken and a bowl of rice noodles. The chicken was incredibly tender and the broth for the chicken pho was hearty. I nearly drank all the broth and didn't even leave a bite of chicken. It was a great price for fantastic chicken pho. The portions for the half chicken was very generous. The accompanied tangy and salty sauce paired well with the chicken. There was also a sweet chili sauce that wasn't overbearingingly sweet like other sweet chili sauces. They also include gizzard and liver! Some places give the blood as well but not this place. I definitely recommend this place for a no frills and simple chicken pho. The workers were very kind. I definitely plan to come again to try the other items in their menu.

Google
Today we tried grilled pork rice and lemongrass chicken rice. They were surprisingly delicious and also the sauce was good. The servers were friendly and explained everything patiently. This restaurant is underrated and recommend this place. We will definitely come back again.

Google
Surprisingly big place. The Beef Stew soup is AMAZING!! Highly recommended. Update 11/14/24: Got the Shredded Chicken Pho Very light broth, flavorful and very mildly salted. Very good. With the colder temperatures they have started to offer Hot Tea, which is a bonus. There is also a bathroom in the back.

Google
I had high hopes for their pho, but unfortunately, the food didn't really work for me. I really really liked the broth, noodles, and greens. The chicken meat was cut together with bones, and sometimes you can bite on a small piece of bone, which just ruins the experience a little bit. The taste of bamboo sprouts was a little bit off. Overall, it feels like a nice small but popular place with good service.

Google
@phogavang is a chicken pho specialist and there is such a variety to choose from! The place is unassuming but staff are welcoming and the food was yummy! Would return in the future when I’m in the neighborhood 👍🏼

Google
Found my new pho spot in lower east side/Chinatown. The young egg and the liver are cooked to perfection and basically melts in your mouth. The pho noodles are good quality, not the best I have had in nyc but not the worst. The chicken pho soup is very flavorful and has layers of flavor to it. The best part in the pho is the dark meat chicken. The service is great the staff are attentive, gentle mannered, patient and willing to make changes or exceptions on request. You can sit anywhere you like when arriving. TLDR; ORDERED: Chicken pho -> 9/10 would order again Young egg, liver and gizzard -> 7/10 would order again

Google
Their chicken pho is really good. Chicken soup is really clean and refreshing. Chicken is not dry at all. Their sauce is very refreshing.

Google
Yum yum yum! Loves the dipping sauce. This lime sauce. Very classic. Maybe a touch too much stock but it’s perfect. Fried chicken amazing too

Yelp
This is the first time I've had a chicken pho that's better than a beef pho! My favorite was the lemongrass grill chicken pho, but the traditional chopped chicken pho is also good. The beef combo pho was good, but the meat was not as tender as expected. The chicken phos are really their specialty! The staff are friendly, and the food came quickly. The restaurant has a casual and cozy vibe, lots of seats.

Yelp
Passed by this place randomly and had a craving for pho! Place is no frills nothing fancy kind of restaurant and the food was overall pretty good. Cha gio (egg rolls) - 5/5 were on point and really enjoyed these with the lettuce and picked veggies Pho Tai with Bo Vein- 4/5 always my go to way for having pho and while the overall dish was good, I'd say theyre close to getting the broth clear. A little under seasoned, but with a Sriracha, hoison, and fish sauce on the side, you can make adjustments. Overall a good option for a bowl of pho for about 15 bucks

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The decor is simple and plenty of seatings to dine. Service can use a bit of work but overall great. The chicken pho is their main offer and it did not disappoint. The Viet coffee is also very legit and strong. I need this chicken pho broth injected directly in my veins... WILL BE RETURNING!

Yelp
On a side street in chinatown we found this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The place itself has a good amount of space for people and with fast service. The lemon grass chicken pho was pretty good, we ordered it because we knew they were more known for their chicken items. The beef and egg roll combo was pretty good/standard. The price wasn't too bad either. Their viet coffee was delicious and super strong. Would come here again next time i'm craving chicken pho!

Yelp
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our two chicken phos at Pho Ga Vang, for which they are particularly famous. Specifically we ordered the traditional chicken pho ($14.99), which comes with rice noodles, and the lemongrass grilled chicken pho ($15.99). Although the latter also comes with rice noodles, to change it up we opted for egg noodles for an extra $1. Both noodle soups were excellent. Each had a generous portion of tender chicken and flavorful broth. It's hard to say which was better, because they each had their merits. I loved the tenderness and classic flavor of the poached chicken in the traditional pho, although I also really appreciated the lemongrass flavor and contrasting texture of the lemongrass grilled chicken pho. The broth was a tad oily, but still wonderfully savory and scrumptious. There was a high chair available and the interior was pretty large and spacious. The restaurant was clean and service was decent. I would definitely be interested in returning to try other items like the acclaimed cho gia and their beef phos.

Yelp
Overview: I highly recommend Pho Ga Vang! An affordable, authentic and awesomely delicious udining experience! Food: 5/5 The food was solid. The Pho Tony Special was extremely flavorful and delicious. The healthy portion is big enough for two. The grilled pork & egg roll vermechille noodles was tasty as well. Plenty of succulent meat with fresh crispy lettuce and sprouts are a perfect mix with the cold noodles. Add the fish sauce on top and you're in business. Everything is fresh and filling. Service: 4/5 Service is prompt and effective. Ambiance: 3.5/5 Very chill and laid back. I love the chicken artwork. It's bright and clean.

Yelp
Pho Ga Vang is a restaurant near Chinatown that focuses on chicken-based pho, as opposed to the more popular beef version. The restaurant is no-thrills, and features a pretty simple menu. They do actually sell the beef version of pho, though you should stick to the chicken pho. The chicken pho was very fragrant and comforting. The chicken itself was fairly tender and flavorful as well. It's a great thing to order on a cold, windy day. The rest of the menu was just OK. To some extent I think Pho Ga Vang is a bit of a one-trick pony. That doesn't mean you shouldn't stop by though.

Yelp
Earlier today I stopped by here, got a lemongrass chicken and steak pho. Lemongrass chicken pho- Meh, broth was too oily. No lemongrass flavor whatsoever. Chicken was only ok. Overall the dish left alot to be desired. The steak pho is much better. The beef was tender and the broth wasn't bad. I would have liked more star anise and other flavors in the broth because it was a little on the bland side. Service: friendly Overall: Likely won't go back, neither dish was really that great, with the abundance of good chinese restaurants in the area to compete with i'll pick them over a only ok pho place.

Yelp
It's nice to have a Vietnamese option close to the residential area where we don't have venture into the busy streets of Mott and all. Saw that this restaurant was spacious and had a few seats so decided to grab lunch here. The guy who is tall and slim was helpful and kind. Food isn't bad. Their specialty is the soup and that's all I would recommend getting. Egg rolls - here I am thinking of the traditional spring rolls you get at Viet spots but this ain't that. It's an egg roll with some sort of resemblance to the meat in spring rolls. Tried it and will pass on it next time. Pork rice platter - no, just no. Obviously not listed as pork chop, just pork. It looks delicious but this was insanely sweet and salty. Makes it tough to eat, quite challenging on the palette. Pass. Chicken rice platter - not bad. They use a different type of rice. Their rice dishes came with a broth that was different from the pho. Guessing it's the clear broth they have offered with their plain noodles. Steak and brisket pho - their phos are large with plenty of noodles. Although if you're a bean sprout fan, prepare to be disappointed. It's a small dish but I guess you can ask for more. This was good and I loved the broth. Really the saving grace for my experience here. Broth was clear, flavorful, lightly salted, and just delicious. Traditional chopped chicken pho and shredded chicken pho - depends on the type of chicken lover you are - you get two choices, bone or no bone. Either way, broth is solid and comes with lots of noodles. I'd be remiss to say that at least service was friendly and the soup was their winning dish. Although while selecting our seats with our little kids, be mindful that in the winter, it gets cold because the door doesn't shut well and you are on the second level. We opted to seat our larger group of five by the center and I heard the staff whispers behind me about problems sitting there. Being me, I asked if we needed to move. I would prefer staff be more upfront about things from the get go. Aside from that little tiff, food was fine. Skip the rice dishes and appetizers and stick to the noodle soup.

Yelp
This area in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge is getting some new places to dine. Pho Ga Vang is ine of them, as tge name implies, a place for pho, specializing in chicken. The staff is made up of young persons. The space is shiny and new, open for a month or so. Be aware, the front steps up are a bit steep, and that makes it not fully accessible. We were seated and hot tea was offered to us. There is seating and tables for maybe 50 patrons in total. We had lunch on a Saturday, and the atmosphere was simple, casual. Out egg rolls were nice and crispy with some meat inside. The pho I had came with beef slices and meatballs. The broth was chicken based, with a lught flavor. My wife had the lemongrass roasted chicken I found was delicious. The chicken, in my opinion, is the dish to order here.

Jessica B.

Yelp
A cute restaurant located near East Broadway of Chinatown. They offer a variety of pho if you want beef based instead of the chicken base they are known for as well as a variety of noodles. My family and I each ordered a bowl of the plain rice noodles ($10 each) and a full chicken ($34). The noodles were one size but it was relatively big and a perfect sized meal if you eat with meat. The noodles came in a hot soup filled almost to the brim and the noodles were still sort of crispy rather than soggy when it came out which I like. The chicken was cooked to perfection - very tender and included the internal organs except blood (which is my favorite). They provided two different sauces - a huge bowl of a sweet garlic sauce and the classic salted pepper sauce which is my family's favorite. The place is modernly decorated and has one unisex restroom behind the bar but before the kitchen. It is cheaper if you pay in cash as well. My family and I used to drive all the way to Philadelphia just for Pho Ga, but not anymore. This place is better, closer, and more reasonably priced! Can't wait to come back for more.

Jason L.

Yelp
My current go-to spot for pho in NYC. I've tried the lemongrass chicken pho and the pho tony special, both were very good and I drank all the broth lol. They give you a salt pepper lemon (muoi tieu chanh) dipping sauce which you will find as a staple dipping dish in Vietnam. The nuoc mam (fish sauce) was also very good and paired nicely with the lemongrass chicken vermicelli.

Stacy T.

Yelp
The restaurant is pretty large. It can accomodate large groups, probably up to 8 people. There were a lot of kids here. We got the traditional Chicken Pho and the Lemon Grass Grill Chicken Pho. The pho was so on point. The Chicken Pho was light and the chicken was moist. They do offer a side of noodles for $2. (Great for little kids!) The Lemon Grass Grill Chicken had a very interesting smokey flavor and aroma. I really liked the flavor, but it was a little salty for me. I wouldn't be able to finish it on my own. I would definitely come bacK!

Kathy W.

Yelp
Sooo good! My friend and I shared a lemon grass chicken pho and beef stew pho, and both were delicious. They were a great complement to each other too; the beef stew was thick and the lemongrass and lime balanced well with it. The portions were generous, so we left feeling very satisfied. The place is spacious and clean, with an assortment of funny chicken decor all over the restaurant. The staff was friendly as well. I consider it a gem in Chinatown!

Lily T.

Yelp
Came to Pho Ga Vang for a late lunch on a Saturday and it was busy! My table of 3 ordered a lot: - chicken gizzard and liver - traditional chopped chicken pho - lemon grass grill chicken pho - pho tony special - egg rolls Everything was really good, it's hard to find a good pho place in NYC where the pho broth isn't too oily/heavy and Pho Ga Vang provided just that. I usually don't finish the whole bowl of pho on my own but I was able to do it here. All the people who work here were fast, patient, and super nice, they helped me pick out dishes while I was waiting for my friend to arrive. The restaurant is small, minimally but well decorated with lots of chicken art! Come check out one of the newest pho restaurants in NYC and support Chef Tony!

Essie L.

Yelp
Kind of no frills place in a remote section of Chinatown, don't think anyone would come to this area if they didn't know about the place. We drove here so it's fine, but it's really in an area of Chinatown that's not convenient / close to anything much. The service was good and prompt, and the food was good and solid. The egg rolls looked like Chinese egg rolls with the Chinese wrappers, but they did taste like Vietnamese egg rolls. The chicken broth was good, and probably the best I've had in NYC. For that reason alone I'd come back.

Ruby N.

Yelp
Checked out this new place that popped up near Chinatown. It's super spacious in here and brightly lit. I ordered the Brisket and Beefball Pho and the portion was great and the broth was light and flavorful. I would recommend this as a great spot to visit with friends.

Erin Y.

Yelp
finally chicken pho in new york! really hit the spot flavorful broth and tender chicken a bit oily and not as clean as i've had in vietnam but like can't compare i understand they give the pepper sauce too

Lan T.

Yelp
I saw this restaurant from a reel and I wanted to try their "young chicken eggs". Not many pho restaurants offer that. The pho was good, and so were the young eggs. The service was good. We also ordered rice with grilled pork and it was not how Vietnamese grilled pork dish normally is. They were nice and took it back and made us something else.

Rainey C.

Yelp
Food was good, probably one of the better/best pho spots I've had in Manhattan. We came on a Fri night with a party of 3 at 7pm and waited about 15-20 min. We were a little confused/upset that they seemed to seat others that came after us quicker, but that was the only downside of our experience. Chicken was done well, felt the broth could've been a bit more flavorful but overall pretty good! I liked the salt sauce they gave us to go along with the chicken, that was probably my favorite part. Def want to try the rice dishes next time if I come back!

Sandy X.

Yelp
We came here for dinner and got seated immediately. This place is pretty popular and a lot of customers dine in. I got the lemongrass chicken pho and the broth was super flavorful. The slices of grilled lemongrass chicken were pretty good. They were thick and juicy slices. There is a dipping sauce for the chicken which gave it a sour and spicy kick to it. The pho itself was super flavorful and delicious. The dish is a little pricey compared to other Vietnamese pho places around the area. Overall I would definitely come back to try the other pho noddles.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Came here to try the new pho place around the neighborhood. Always want to try new places around. But was super disappointed here. The staff were super friendly. The place looks fast casual with their disposable chopsticks. The broth for the chicken and beef pho has a weird aftertaste. The spring rolls were not good the skin and the meat were not good. The liver and gizzard has absolutely no flavor or seasoning. If I wanted this I could have just boiled liver and gizzard myself at home. My chicken leg skin is done well. But the chicken itself was a little on the chewy side, overcooked. The rice wasn't bad. The lemon grass chicken was pretty tasteless and the portion size of the protein is so tiny compare to the rice. First time and last time here.

Connie G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying chicken pho (this is the first place in NYC that I've come across that specializes in it), so I don't have any point of comparison but I enjoyed it! The broth was super flavorful, and the portion was huge. They also give you a small dish of sauce to dip the chicken in (not sure exactly what the sauce is but it's very vinegary). I also ordered the chicken spring rolls, which were delicious as well - one portion comes with four rolls. Decor is also cute - there are fun chicken facts on the wall!

Fadda M.

Yelp
Very clean, new spot. People are rightly going nutz over this place. They specialize in chicken, & their pho broth is a chicken broth. Very thin on the apps - I wish they had summer rolls! The brisket pho was awesome. Super friendly staff. I will def be back !

Alex R.

Yelp
Place is 2 weeks old! Specialty is anything ga or chicken . Ordered pho ga lemongrass. Clean flavors and good portion. Everyone around was having pho variations. I guess need to come back and try ba beef. They were sold out of beef stew which apparently is popular.

Michael A.

Yelp
Fairly new pho spot that ive been to a few times already. I'd prolly rank it in my top 5 pho places in the city. Small dining area with about 6-8 tables. Wait staff is kind and attentive and food comes out pretty quick. I generally get the beef combo or the chicken pho. I've also tried the young eggs (just tastes like egg yolk, cause it is) and all are good. Nothing really stands out but it's overall good pho. Pricing is reasonable for what they give you.

Martin W.

Yelp
Man nothing like some hot pho on a freezing day in NYC. Been to this location a few times and have tried Beef Pho and Lemon Grass Chicken. Both times the pho was very good. Broth not salty and complimented with housin sauce and hot sauce added a nice kick. If I had to choose the lemon grass chicken would be my pick. Also tried spring or egg rolls that come eith daikon. I like to roll my spring roll in romaine lettiuce leaf with basil added. Hmmm so good when dipping in sauce. Both times have ordered take out. Plenty of seats available. Staff was friendly would definetely recommend and return.

Steben E.

Yelp
Pretty small place, could seat about 40-50 people comfortably. Clean and well lit which is always great. We waited about 15 minutes at 7pm. Fast and friendly servers brought out good in less than 2 minutes from ordering. I am very particular and pretentious about my pho and this has to be uncontested the best chicken pho I have had in the city. Rich broth with generous amounts of chicken and white onion. Noodles are springy and do not fall apart. I highly recommend this new spot!

Esther C.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a Saturday after seeing the long line for Golden Diner down the block and managed to snag a table relatively quickly. Having grown up in this neighborhood back in the day, it's interesting to see how it's changed so much but refreshing to see new and trendy restaurants pop up. Me and my friend ordered an appetizer of spring rolls and I got the chopped chicken pho while she got a regular beef pho. Everything was delicious and pretty up to par with other Vietnamese restaurants as someone who has frequented a lot of pho spots :) I would say the chicken pho is definitely unique and refreshing since I prefer chicken over the traditional beef so love the concept of this restaurant. I would recommend if you're in the area and need a quick bite, prices are affordable but I took off one star for the space, we sat in the back by the kitchen and it was pretty uncomfortable with servers trying to get through in a tight corner.

Kammy F.

Yelp
This is not the first time to visit Pho Ga Vang. Perfect place to enjoy a quick simple meal. Food is delicious. Service is friendly and speedy. They are playing the 50's to 70's music during the evening hours. We got there around 7:30pm and it's quiet. Give us a feel of relax. It's a clean and modern hop with some hilarious chicken related poster. Both chicken and beef broth are pretty good. I really enjoy all their beef pho dishes. Definitely will be back for the rice dish next time.

Linda N.

Yelp
Pho Ga chopped bone in was wonderful and with the young eggs was a perfect addition. Rich with flavor and very authentic. The lime dip is on point

Eszti E.

Yelp
Was delicious , absolutely recommend if you want something what warm your soul not just your stomach

De C.

Yelp
Underneath the bridge where the cars go zoom and the subway trains go boom, sits this new vietnamese restaurant ontop of a very high flight of stairs on Market St. The place is modern and clean because it just opened. We ordered 3 of the chopped chicken pho, we never had chicken pho before. The chicken was flavorful, the broth was not as different as I thought it'd be and the noodles were noodling. The portion was right for me but the rest of my friends said the portion was small, mixed opinions on that one. The spring rolls are very standard, not much to say about it. I would go back to try the beef pho next time.

Jenny Z.

Yelp
Pho with steak and beefballs - 4/5 Generous portion size for the price as you can tell by the bowl, and they gave plenty of noodles that weren't overly cooked or strangled together. The broth is pretty light and tastes like a standard pho meal you can get at Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown. Lighting inside the restaurant is also nice and very spacious. It is located in a more isolated area of Chinatown.

Birdy L.

Yelp
Just went today and got the brisket and steak pho, my husband got the shrimp pho. Both were very good and the soup was delicious and clear not fatty in the least. The herbs were fresh and clean. The young staff was friendly and quite sweet. I am happy they a just a few blocks from my apartment

Charlie P.

Yelp
Cute decorations! Large portion for the food. Lots of chicken pieces. Not overcooked. The chicken soup is just not my favorite. The livers taste weird. Customer service has room to improve.

Luc F.

Yelp
This recently opened Vietnamese restaurant is amazing. It probably has the best chicken flavored pho in the entire city.

P T.

Yelp
Broth is very cloudy and not good clean broth. Chicken is over cooked. Service is very friendly. But food needs more work. Ok for people who don't eat pho too much.

S L.

Yelp
Came here around 6 PM on a lazy Thursday evening and the place quickly filled up within the hour. We started with a chicken & liver appetizer, husband got the namesake chicken pho, and I got the chicken mien ga. Everything hit the spot - easily one of the most transcendent chicken broths we've ever had.

David F.

Yelp
Excellent chicken pho. My favorite is the shredded chicken variety. Service is friendly. Prices are fair. Pho is flavorful.

Gavin L.

Yelp
Ordered the beef combo pho, brisket and meatball pho, and eggrolls. The eggrolls were crispy and tasty. The pho had generous meat portions and the broth was clean. Would recommend and come back again!

Anna Y.

Yelp
Had seen good reviews so decided to try this restaurant, seemed busy. Ordered the steak and brisket pho and have mixed feelings about it. Great, hot broth (pet peeve with some restaurants when I get lukewarm broth), and noodles were springy (although very thin whereas I prefer the wider flat noodles). However, the steak and brisket pieces were small, weren't as tender or as plentiful as other restaurants. Service was friendly. Overall ok, slightly more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants, and I missed the variety that others offer (eg tendons).

Aileen C.

Yelp
The place is good but prices are higher than most Vietnamese place I been to. I would give 4 out 5 stars for taste but 1 star for portion size and price. The amibiance is basic, nothing special. I got the Tony special, which is assortment of Beef with their special chicken. I kinda walk out of the place hungry/dissatisfied. When I go to a Vietnamese restaurant for pho, I expect a huge bowl of noodles especially when I order their largest bowl. There was not enough noodle so I wanted to order some extra noodle with broth which on the menu was $10 (what???), so I didn't. The waitress did offered to give me some extra noodle and I was happy about that. I do expecting the chicken to be better since that is their specialty, but it was kinda chewy. They do have a nice very broth. I think it's worth a try if you don't mind a smaller portion.
