Yelp
WOW! This one was also on the list of Italian spots that I bookmarked to try in San Diego. Safe to say this blew every single other spot in the city out of the water in my opinion. Cesarina, Illando, Siamo Napoli, Lucrezia and others, sorry to say, this is the reigning King of Italian Food in San Diego for me personally.
The owner/head of house Salvatore was very friendly and eager to serve.
We ordered:
-Taglierini Neri ai Frutti di Mare
-Gnocchi alla Sorrentina
-Cioppino
-Stinco di Agnello
-Tiramisu
All of the dishes were executed basically perfectly with the exception of the cioppino which had a little too much white wine in the sauce but who knows maybe the chef was having a little too much fun. As any Italian will tell you, the wine is good enough to cook with if and only if it is good enough to drink! Loved the Taglierini Neri in particular, it's not everyday you find a good squid ink pasta at an Italian restaurant.
The Tiramisu was slightly Americanized in presentation with chocolate drizzle, blueberries and mint, but was by far the best Tiramisu I have had (and I have tried several dozen Italian establishments across various different locales at this point). Just the right amount of sweetness, perfect amount of espresso and liquor soaking sauce, and zabaglione so well made it felt like a chewable creamy cloud in the mouth. If they opened up a pastry shop on the side and just sold that Tiramisu in a more classic Italian presentation it would probably also get 5 stars on Yelp, that's how good it was.
A presto, arrivederci!
