Potchke Deli is my new favorite lunch spot in Knoxville! An absolute gem! We visited for the first time at lunch yesterday, and we immediately fell in love with this place! The building is full of character with local artwork on the walls and cute decor. We visited on a Saturday during lunch. It was very busy with the line to place our order wrapping to the door and seating was limited. However, this didn’t affect our experience at all! After ordering at the counter, our food came out in a timely manner and was amazing! We ordered the Pastrami Reuben, Matzoh Ball Soup, Turkey Melt, and the Whitefish Bialy. Everything was fresh tasting and super flavorful. I highly recommend Potchke Deli and can’t wait to dine here again soon!

Visiting Knoxville for the first time and a local recommended I try Potchke. The messed up matzo ball soup was maybe the best soup I’ve ever eaten… Also, as someone with a dairy allergy I appreciate the many options I had to choose from. Plus the atmosphere was lovely. Highly, highly recommend.

Absolute love this place, I recommend it to literally everyone I see and talk about it non stop. When i comes to European/ Jewish Bakery’s this is as good as it gets in Tennessee. I havent had anything on the menu that is not packed with unique flavor and freshness. Some of the best Lox I have ever had and also great coffee. My friends get sick of me because of how much I talk about this place. It is the first thing I recommend to people if they are new to knoxville. It’s got great food for everyone no matter how picky. I could really write a whole essay about how much I love this place and break down each dish I’ve tried but I do not want to waste any more of your time. If your in town and in search of some fresh, flavorful, soul replenishing food then you have to come here Fav dishes: Lox Bailey, Matzoh ball soup, Avo Tartine, Potato Blintz, and honestly everything probably. 4.9/5

This place is great! Emily was super nice and helpful as I was traveling with my dog so she served us outside on the patio and made us a postcard :) The baklava is HUGE, more like a cinnamon roll but still flaky with that chewy sugary texture... way too good I ate the whole thing =O

Google
Spunky Jewish deli serving up some unique flavors. The space is lovely and fun. You order from the deli and grab a seat. It gets busy so plan to wait in line or for a table during peak hours. Food looks beautiful and everything is made fresh. I loved the blintz - creamy and unique! Ordered both the white fish and lox bialy and was just a little let down by the lack of texture. The bialy is thin and toppings were quite wet. Overall my order didn’t match my texture needs but I was still impressed. Word is the avocado toast is top tier so I will be back to try and enjoy a babka!

Went with my sister and my niece! We got the potato blintz, the cheese blintz, and the frittata sandwich. Even though the blintzes seem small, they pack a powerful punch. Not only are they soooo tasty, but they are also quite filling. The potato blintz is the perfect savory breakfast while the cheese blitz is a nice sweet treat. The frittata sandwich was my breakfast sandwich dream come true. The frittata allows you to enjoy all the mixins without losing anything from your sandwich. And the bagel? Not too chewy and not too dense. Perfect for a sandwich. We did not have any of their specialty drinks, but did have some of their bottled drinks.

I had a delicious lunch here today. I had the whitefish bialy and a Natalie’s Beet and orange juice. It was delicious, and light. I felt nourished but not overly carbed up. (AKA I didn’t need to pass out for a nap immediately after enjoying.) The bialy was perfectly crispy and soft at the same time, and loaded up with poppy seeds. My boyfriend got the Bat Mitzvah Showstopper. It surely stopped the show! The challah bread was HUGE. I joked that he ordered one sandwich for lunch and one for dinner. Impressively, he finished all of it. Both sandwiches were delicious and satisfying. The overall vibe of the place and fresh ingredients are thoroughly appreciated by a food and food service lover like me.

One of the best Jewels of Knoxville. Great service and great food made with excellent ingredients. So happy to have this Jewish bakery in Knoxville. Also the coffee is amazing!

Yelp
I love this place so much, but my god, turn down the music. The lunch crowd is fighting for our lives just to chill a bit before going back to the office. Aside from the aural assault, Potchke is a delight every time. Standout menu items: fussed up matzoh ball soup, secret menu sandwich, pickle me up shot

Yelp
EDIT: Changed to 4 stars from 3 because of incredible customer service. Will try the sandwich again and adjust accordingly. There are so many raving reviews about this place that I can't help but feel this could be a fluke but it's my opinion nonetheless. Great atmosphere, staff seems really nice, food was just okay. I had the lox bialy which tasted fantastic on the first bite but then I realized it was just the salt. Could barely taste anything after the initial bite. I am at home chugging water while I type this out. The lox itself was great but there was almost none on one of my halves. I had to deconstruct everything to spread it around. In the $17 price range definitely one of the least-enticing lox bagel offerings I have had. The pastrami and mustard, one of my all-time favorite combinations, was pretty disappointing. The bread was okay, kinda dry. The meat was pathetic. It's just little strips of bone-dry bacon-style pastrami. Every little strip that I bit was pulled out with every bite. I had to put my sandwich back together like at least 5 times. Boldly claiming that it's better than Katz's is one of the wildest things I have ever heard. For $22 it's absolutely not it. Just my experience. It looks like plenty of people are in love with the place. But it's a posh take on New York deli that falls short for me.

Yelp
Hidden gem we found in Knoxville. So many great options on the menu it was so hard to choose. Bialys and lox Were great. Matzah ball soup was jazzed up and delicious. Cute Jewish deli with a twist. We purchased a chocolate babka to go and it disappeared quickly.

Yelp
I drove to Knoxville for some exploring and wanted to find a great place to eat first. The high Yelp reviews led me to this place. This was the first of what I anticipate will be multiple visits. I got the Lox Bialy, open faced with a chocolate egg cream. I left the tomato and cucumber off my sandwich. It was the perfect ratio of ingredients for me! The bialy (like a softer, less chewy bagel) had lots of everything spice and tasted fresh. The cream cheese and nova lox is such an awesome combo. If you have never had it, nova lox is cured and cold smoked so it's not a strong smoky taste. I really don't get any smokiness which is my preference. If you like a Philly sushi roll, you'll love this! You can get it as a sandwich or the open faced is a larger portion. An egg cream is milk, flavor syrup (chocolate in this case) and some seltzer. It's something I'm familiar with and this one was tasty. It's not huge but it was the right size to have with my meal. All the staff I interacted with was super friendly. The space is bright and modern. The menu is filled with fresh options and multiple vegetarian or vegan choices. I was definitely impressed with the quality of my meal and felt the prices were appropriate for this type of place in a downtown location. Others might find the prices on the high side. Everything I saw other people eating looked great. It was busy but I didn't have to wait to sit down around 130 on a Sunday. I could see this place being packed during weekday lunches! I'm already thinking about when I can go back!!!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in Knoxville! You can tell all of the ingredients are really fresh and made with care. I cannot wait to try the entire menu. My all-time favorite so far has been the chocolate Babka.

Yelp
How have I not written a review for Potchke!? It's one of my favorite places in Knoxville, and if you do a little digging on the internet you will see some big name magazines also agree on their love for this fabulous little deli. It's a Jewish Deli where Vienna Coffee used to be in Downtown Knoxville. Call it simple but I love the avocado toast. I make avocado toast at home but whatever they do to this one stands out, and I have to say a lot of it has to do with that delicious homemade bread. As soon as you walk in the aroma of freshly baked breads hit you. They have a daily assortment of babka's on display for you to order, and do yourself a favor and try one out. I normally am more of the savory person over sweet so I usually go for the Everything Babka. I mean damn, it's literal fire. Absolutely Delish! But in reality they are all really good, a mix between a muffin and a croissant I would say. Just pull it apart and dig in. Anything and everything I have ordered I have loved. Another favorite is the Smoked White Fish on a bially, or the Mushroom Reuben. Whatever the case, if you are in the area and can't decide where to eat, go check this place out. They are only open for breakfast and lunch so plan accordingly. They have indoor and outdoor dining, and the patio is pet friendly. Here's a little secret, get there early if you want a Babka, because once they are out, they are out for the day. And a lot of times that happens before 11am. And another secret, ask about their secret menu. You're welcome. I hope you stumble upon this fabulous little place and adore it as much as I do. And if you don't want to wait order your pickup order on the app Toast, however Toast doesn't always have everything on their menu online, just an fyi. Cheers & Enjoy friends!

Yelp
Jewish deli in downtown Knoxville with quite a few vegetarian and vegan options, which can be hard to come by. Ordered online for pickup. Unfortunately, we ordered a loaf of babka and they were out so we had to request a refund (which couldn't be done on-site), so consider calling ahead and asking if they're out of anything. I had the mushroom reuben and my wife had the potato blintzes (the cheese ones didn't even show up on the website). The reuben was amazing, definitely an awesome vegetarian spin on the classic sandwich. The blintzes were good but a little small for the price. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
this place is a hidden gem of Knoxville. The ambience in seating is the best around. The food is unlike anything I've ever had. The food took a while to come out because it was very crowded on a Sunday.

Yelp
Had this on the list forever, and knew they were at least somewhat vegan friendly, but no idea about if they could also do gluten free. The menu pretty much says you have to discuss with the cashier, which we did. For vegan and gluten free, the Hebrew Hero can be both vegan and gluten free (confirmed the GF bread is ALSO vegan) as well as the Mushroom Rueben, but with that one they'd need to take off both the sauce and the cheese, then it would just be mushrooms on bread, which was neither recommended nor sounded good. The Potchke Salad without any dressing also is vegan/GF. The Rip and Dip sandwhich on GF bread subbing avocado tartine for the labna. Also, the Borsch(t) without the sour cream and rolls is also vegan GF. I got the Hebrew Hero on what I'm hoping was gluten free bread that was also vegan. The bread seemed too good to be both GF & vegan though! The sandwich was outstanding. I also got a house made strawberry fennel soda at the cashier's recommendation. My husband got the rip & dip entree and we shared a borscht soup, all made vegan. It's also a great coffee shop. The interior is spacious with a couch seating area as you enter and the rest is table and chair seating that is welcoming. Everything was incredible, fresh and delicious. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. This will definitely be the first of many visits.

Yelp
Such a lovely place with fun aesthetics and friendly atmosphere. Never thought something like this would be in Knoxville! Seating is first come first serve with order at the counter style service. You get a number and they bring it to you. So many pastries but we're here for the savory stuff! My friend and I shared a lox bialy open face sandwich and the matzo ball soup with all the fixings. Such good flavor, especially the soup. Tender chicken with perfect broth. Definitely a fun place for a weekend brunch!

Yelp
Love every thing about this little place, would definitely stop here again on my way through town. Highly recommend the chocolate babka & potato B.. I had a honey cappuccino which was better than my husbands cortado but we won't deduct any stars for that still excellent place to eat everyone was very nice and helpful with my allergies super cute building & vibe .

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch as we were driving through Knoxville. It was a little tough to find because it sits back from the main road. Glad we did find it. Friendly staff with very interesting menu. Food was great will be back next time through Knoxville.

Yelp
Potchke is a slice of New York City in Knoxville!!! You need an egg cream or a delicious sandwich on the best Challah you've ever eaten??? Come to Potchke. Its kitschy style and wonderful people will make you feel like you're at your Jewish bubby's house, even if you aren't even Jewish!

Yelp
We recently ate at this establishment on a Saturday morning at about 10AM. This is a busy restaurant so get in line and wait on a seat to open. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. We split a Matzo Ball Soup which was savory and hearty. We ordered the Cheese Blintz and Potato Blintz dishes. I thought the Potato Blintz was the better dish a beautiful combination of onions and Potatoes wrapped in a delicious crepe. My wife thought the Cheese Blintz wasn't as good as the one we had at Carnegie deli in NYC. Carnegie Deli has since closed so that comparison is moot. The ambience is interesting, multiple places to seat at the window and in a lounge area as well as traditional tables throughout.

Yelp
Best vegan breakfast in the east coast! The bialys with sunflower seed hummus and guacamole with chili oil and curry. The Hebrew hero was crunchy, stacked with fermented cabbage and cucumbers!

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, and a nice environment for meeting up with friends. Seating is a bit problematic, as it is a popular spot, but everyone there was warm and welcoming as we shared a table with other patrons.

Yelp
The place was bustling around 1pm on Friday. Free public parking lot under the bridge. You order at the front counter and seat yourself when you find an open table. Chocolate egg cream - I'd never had an egg cream before today. I'd only ever heard of them through rambling conversations with senior citizens and accidentally watching the Turner Classic Movies channel. Tasted like carbonated chocolate milk with Hershey's chocolate syrup mixed in. Certainly unique. Would order again. Whitefish Bialy -smoked trout filling was chunky, not your typical mayo-y mess. Complete with tomato, cucumber and greens on a poppyseed bialy. Would order again. Sunflower-Sesame Bialy - essentially just a sesame seed bialy with a few sunflower seeds sprinkled on as an afterthought. Kinda disappointed there weren't more sunflower seeds on top or baked in. The bialy wasn't toasted and didn't come with a schmear or spread. Probably wouldn't feel compelled to order this again. Still, the bialy had a tender crumb and a good chew. Potato Blintz - Fantastic dish. Two perfectly cooked crepes filled with finely diced potato, pillowy soft scrambled egg, and a little melted cheese. I didn't pickup on the caramelized onion, but was delicious nonetheless. Spread on a little creamy Labneh, soak up a little spicy chili oil, and top with thinly sliced avocado... and you got yourself a perfect bite. Complete dish. Would absolutely order again, and hope to try the sweet cheese blintz next time I'm in Knoxville. Lox Bialy - really enjoyed this sandwich. Served on a everything bialy (my favorite of the three we tried). Plenty of lox, and the pickled capers and pepper relish were sweet and bright. One note: there's dill and scallion schmear on the both the top and bottom of the sandwich, which was maybe a little too much schmear for my liking. Would still order again.

Yelp
Challah at the fine folk at Potchke for making me feel right at home in Tennessee. When I searched on Yelp for restaurants and came across a place called "Potchke" (true story, our dog's name was Tchotchke Potchke z''l), I thought it was too good to be true! In Knoxville, of all places! It was such a warm, welcoming haven on a stormy day. We discovered the secret menu and ordered the pastrami reuben. Thank goodness we shared it! What an enormous sandwich! And you know a place is the real deal if it offers Cel-Ray. The decor is truly delightful. More filling than the food was the pride I felt for my Jewish heritage when I was welcomed at the counter by a lovely young man wearing a Magen David. Mazel on a fine establishment and fantastic food, Potchke. I can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
So glad and relieved that the owners decided to keep Potchke around (it was initially meant to be a temporary pop-up). This is an incredible spot for some fresh and unique food in a eclectic, bright, and comfy setting. We admittedly had a challenging time finding Potchke, as the signage is very subtle, presumably because it is not a permanent spot. It is tucked into the Regas building, around the corner from Marble City Market. We stepped inside the space and were warmly greeted by the staff and the unique, multi-space room (a few comfy seating spots-one with a fireplace!, low tops, high-top work stations, and bar seating running all along the window area). This would be a cozy and tasty spot to work remotely. The menu is small with a few daily specials in the mix and the space and bathrooms clean and inviting. We ordered an iced coffee, avo tartine, lox bialy, and an apple crumble babka. Everything was wonderful. The salmon in the lox dish was perfectly sliced and very fresh. The bagel it was on was super soft and tasty. The avo tartine was the perfect combination of textures and flavors with the slight kick of the chili oil on the perfectly crisped toast and the crunch of fresh local veggies with the creamy avocado. While the side salad was a nice touch, I'm not sure it was necessary, especially when it was simply lettuce with a vinaigrette and a few seeds on top. I ended up scooping it onto my toast. The babka was really flavorful. I think it would have been even better warmed up or fresh from the oven. The sweetened butter served with it was a welcome addition. There is a water and coffee station and we liked that there were glass carafes available for you to fill with water and bring to your table if the small glasses were not enough. I would agree with another reviewer that more drink options would be nice, like teas, and fresh fruit juices. I would also say that this place is very pricey for the portion sizes. This will be a spot that I enjoy stopping by occasionally but not one that could frequently be enjoyed due to the cost. Special treat!

Yelp
The food was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. They have a reallly cute living room set up with plenty of Montessori style toys in a fun setting for families. The staff were kind and they even got me a half lox. The place is CLEAN and cute. They came highly recommended and I would recommend to anyone.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Driving thru TN. Who would have thought the most amazing deli style restaurant in the heart of the UT area. Potchke is a gem. Nothing traditional about the lox on Bialy and whitefish on poppyseed bialy. The potato blintzes were better than anything I have eaten in NYC. Right off I40 hidden away in an office building...find it and enjoy.
google avatar

Tif G.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches and babka! Never had matzoh ball soup before and gave it a try...not my favorite. Flavors are good, but the texture of mushy bread in chicken soup just isn't for me. The potato curry, chocolate, and cinnamon babka & coffee are all to die for, tho!
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible Food and Incredible Service. A very cute spot right next to Marble City Market the Food and Coffee were amazing. Ended up taking 3 of the different Babkas (Chocolate, Lemon Poppy Seed, Everything Bagel) home as a nice little treat.

Yelp
I am a transplant from Miami and was in fear of not having a deli to go to in Knoxville. I feel Miami is second to New York being the deli capital, so my expectations were high. When I heard about the Pop up Potchke, my curiosity peaked, because Miami has amazing Pop Ups. Due to business back in Miami I didn't make it to Potchke as soon as I would have liked, but I followed all the media buzz it was creating. Eventually my wife and I made our first visit. We had a little difficulty finding the place and went through the front of the building with the kindness of the receptionist ( which you could tell she had this happen often) and walked through the second doors to only be amazed at the fantastic colorful decor. We stood for a few minutes just soaking up the complete vibe of the restaurant. There was an incredible seating area which looked so miami except for the fireplace. Bright pink couch with a chartreuse armed sofa chair, with different color pillows and live foliage, it was so inviting. Then unlocking our embrace of our first new find, we see the beautiful turquoise counter where you order and a receive a metal holder with a number for your order. Here is where we found the most incredible babkas. This was the first place I ever saw individual babkas. They had a rich ribboned chocolate babka and my new favorite a Peaches and cream babka- rich flaky dough intertwined with vanilla pastry cream and peach jam. They also had shareable size of chocolate babka. We ordered the Potato blintz- two crepes with potato caramalized onion, cheese and scrambled egg served with labna ( strained velvety sour cream) chili oil, avocado and a small mix green salad. Everything was over the top delicious. I had one and my wife ate the other. We then Had to have our favorite, Lox bagel, but they served it on a everything bialy ( a bagel without a hole) with dill & scallion schemer, good nova lox, onions, big capers, tomato qiquillo peppers and dill - this was exactly how we eat them. this was so fresh and comforting. Finally we had to have the Matzoh ball soup. They offered it up two ways, classic and fuss it up ( chili crisp, pickled plum sauce and lots of extra herbs). We have never had it fussed up, but now we only want to have Matzoh ball soup fussed up. The menu is a condensed menu with all the favorites of a deli menu. I spoke with the Chef who was busy creating on a notebook (in another eclectic raised seating area with couches and chairs surrounded by a thick wood crafted railing that made you think of a exotic Asian location) who said to look out for season specials. The manager was so proud of Potchke that you would think she owned it. I watched her talk with everyone and help enthusiastically when it got super busy. She definitely has the pulse of the business. We sat at a table next to a big window that looked out to the spacious outside seating area. This venue has so many choices where to sit. They had a large, long wooden high top that would be great for a large group. They had individual high tops as well. I loved the 2 blue velvet chairs with a small round table for an intimate cup of coffee. Finally the two things that stole the show was two beverages far apart in difference, but crafted out of the best of imagination. Pickle me up is a shot served in a sherry type glass and it is their homemade pickle juice with a shot of fresh beet juice. It was refreshing and awakened your taste buds, I recommend this before devouring you tasted meal. The second was a desert in a glass, A legit New your chocolate egg crème. It was creamy and just enough bubbles to make it light enough to want to gulp it. This is our favorite brunch restaurant in Knoxville and will a be a constant hangout!

Yelp
Love this place. Charming place with delicious options. You can't go wrong here. I've been here twice and love it. Choices you don't find elsewhere.

Yelp
Excellent, modern "Jewish-fusion" restaurant. I call it fusion because the menu seems to blend a variety of unique options from the Jewish deli base. I had the matzo ball soup -- a great choice on a cold January day. It stood out because of all the herbs and spices in the soup. This was accentuated by my electing to choose the version with more spice. As a fan of big soup bowls like Asian style pho or Japanese Ramen, the matzo ball was equally as good and hit the spot. As good as my matzo ball soup was, the pastrami sandwich was even better. I mean..wow. This was a special that day and my son ordered it. I only tasted a few pieces of the meat (not even the bread). But, just from that small taste, I could tell it was awesome. Such good flavor. Probably the best pastrami meat I've ever tasted. I also ordered the Babka because I am a fan of Babka generally. Indeed, I sometimes order the famous Green's babka from New York or buy it seasonally when it is at Whole Foods. While this version was good, it wasn't what I expected for babka. Tasted more like a cinnamon roll to me -- which is a bit more moist and less crispy parts. Decent and tasty. But, I think it could be better. The coffee bar looks really nice. It was too late in the day to order coffee. But, I could tell they had good offerings and the coffee smell made me crave a cup. Next time! Aside from the food, I like the atmosphere here. Beautiful interior and nice, clean space. You order at a counter, seat yourself, and grab your own utensils, water, etc. Food came quickly. Overall: Great. I'll definitely be back. This is a wonderful addition to the Knoxville restaurant scene.

Yelp
Immaculate vibes, delicious food This little deli is a quaint, quiet spot where everyone seems to be friendly. The establishment is environmentally friendly, with self serve water pitchers and oddly great quality napkins. Many kosher options were available as well for diverse eating needs. My only personal preference was the lack of vegetarian options available.

Yelp
My favorite deli in all of Knoxville has the best matzoh ball soup around! I like it "fussed up", which gives it that extra spicy kick and keeps me coming back for more. A cool brisk and wintry day makes it extra special. I've tried several of their dishes and they're ALL wonderful, along with their AMAZING staff. I've been singing your praises all over town, so don't change a thing!

Yelp
Went here as one of the locals recommended it. Really enjoyed the potato blintz and chocolate babka. The salad that came with the potato blintz paired perfectly with it. Refreshing and delicious. Both indoor and outdoor seating available.

Yelp
They have the best lox hands down! I love sitting by the fireplace. The service is always fast and the staff are always so kind.

Yelp
Tasty brunch food! We visited Potchke late on Saturday morning and it was packed. At this cafe, you order at the counter, and they bring your food out to you when it's ready. Patrons acquire their own silverware and water from a separate table. Funk music played over the speakers during our visit. I tried the potato blintz. My food was served quickly even though it was busy. The blintz was excellent with a great balance of flavors. Overall, I had a nice time at Potchke and would recommend them.

Yelp
Stopped through on a road trip. Amazing food, very cool vibes, friendly people. We split a mushroom Rueben, a Hebrew hero and a bowl of borscht. All were outstanding!

Yelp
Like everyone else so far, this is an absolute five star establishment. The food and service is wonderful. I had the Whitefish Salad on a Bialy that was almost too much for a lunch, but powered through. My wife had the half order of Pastrami on Challah (yes they have pastrami). Our table mates had the Avocado Toast and , also, the pastrami. We left with take outs for later today. I saw a review that said this was not a "pastrami sandwich place". We saw today that it could be if you used the magic words "What do you have in the back." Off-menu delights always a possibility.

Yelp
I never take pictures of my meal, but was compelled to capture a picture of my breakfast. Every aspect of our experience was pleasing-- the food, the service, the kindness, the seltzer water, the charm.

Yelp
Hip, cute decor, clean, and tasty! Highly recommend for a breakfast or lunch pit stop in Knoxville.

Yelp
Potchke provides me a reason to get out of bed on Saturday. Food shouldn't be this good.Everything is treated with care and attention to detail. The pastrami that I just had was as tender as the winter night is long. It felt more comforting than the warm embrace of a lover.

Yelp
It was very attractive inside, good food choices. Loved my light roast coffee. Had the potato blintzes, pretty good but kind of pricey and barely could find the egg was supposed to come with Not a hugh fan of place your order and pay, then we will bring it out

Yelp
Our first time to Potchke! The place is cute as my wife says. The staff were great. The place was nearly full but everything was prompt and friendly. My wife had the rip n' dip with a garlic bially which was such a good bang for the buck to try a bunch of different things. I got the potato blintzes which were absolutely delicious. My one thought there is they are texturally pretty much one-note. We got an everything bially to go which I haven't tried yet. One caveat emptor is just that they don't serve alcohol, so uhm make your own arrangements should you wish. That said the "Pickle me up" is brilliant. Pickle juice, beet juice, seltzer. Now I am Not normally a beet fan, but it was delicious. I recommend getting the $2.50 glass rather than the $1.00 shot unless like me you just want to dip a toe into the water. Potchke may get me to like beets?!?! So .. all of that is worthwhile to know and great but is only prelude. The everything babka is incredible, transcendent. If you like savory pastries/breads do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Yelp
BEST lox bagel in Knoxville! Here it's called a "lox bialy", served with a load of lox, cream cheese, cucumbers, red onions, tomato, dill and capers. I've gotten it 4 times in the past few months. Super funky-70's-neon interior with very welcoming staff and great seating options. My favorite weekend breakfast spot where there is rarely a wait, and fairly easy parking downtown.

Yelp
I was anxious to visit this deli as I had read very good reviews. The pastrami with mustard, vitamin salad and Zapp chips was on their secret menu. The bread with caraway seeds was tasty. No cola was available so I ordered cream soda. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was very roomy. My only complaint was the pastrami was tough and appeared overcooked and chopped into very small pieces. Maybe a bad day.

Yelp
Ever since the disappearance of Veg-o-rama, in Central, I've been craving a veggie Reuben. : ( Well, the wait is over! ; )

Yelp
I wonder how places like this existed before the internet, because I struggle to imagine what kind of person wanders through Knoxville Tennessee looking for an ultra-hipster Jewish cafe. But it popped up on my search, and in I went. The multi-use building doesn't announce the presence of this restaurant, so you'll have to walk around the side to find it. Despite the enormous amount of time I spent scrutinizing their menu, when my meal arrived I still wasn't entirely sure what I was getting into. Looking it up again, they're vegan crepes filled with spiced sweet potatoes served on top of avocado salsa. A number of pickled onions were on top, and I'm not huge on the sour tastes, but between the warm spice mix of the sweet potatoes, I got an exciting balance of flavor. My fennel-flavored soda, again a real oddity, delivered a hint of sweetness and a definite herbal flavor. I took a chocolate pastry to go, which was fluffy, with chocolate tastefully layered in. Other options included a bialy with walnut-based dip, blintzes, salads, and a more conventional avocado on toast. The menu was mostly, though not completely vegetarian. This is a pricey place, and a lot of people seemed to be doing business meetings there. But they definitely delivered what the concept promised. And now even though I liked what I got, I'm wishing I'd ordered the bialy.
