"When Carla Meneses and her husband Fernando moved to Tulsa from Ecuador in 2012, they noticed the city was missing something significant: empanadas. Que Gusto has filled that void with a variety of sweet and savory options — including a vegan mushroom-seitan number, a breakfast empanada, and a halal lamb version — handmade daily at this bright, intimate downtown spot. If you’re feeling a bit hungrier, try the hearty arroz con pollo topped with sweet plantains, or go for the pork sandwich with avocado and chipotle-lime mayo. The combo of a smoothie and yucca bread is a great, lighter route, and there’s a grab-and-go case of packaged items." - Jess Brent

It's an unexpected place with food very flavorful! Service was friendly and knowledgeable. It took a little bit to get the food but it's because they put it in the oven and not just fast fry it. Great selection of vegan and non-vegan choices.

Google
The Must-Try place of your life, not just 2024; the atmosphere is quaint but quality. The staff is excellent and worth your best tipping. The food... It's the best in the city, bar none; if you find a place better, with the care and quality ingredients they utilize, I'd be shocked - mainly because no one does it like this: no one. From breakfast desserts, salads to sandwiches, sides to sauces, and anything else made in house: care and quality, with I believe, a dash of love. You cannot go wrong here, there is something for every dietary need, as far as I could tell.

GF pork sandwich. Patacones ( green fried plantains) is the "bun" to this delicious meal. Such a tasty treat. Stop by and order one today, your taste buds will be so happy you did.

Google
Amazing food with lots of gluten-free options! The new Yucca based empanada was absolutely amazing

Adriana Guzman

Google
Ok I’m impressed with their Cobb Salad. I had a rice and chicken dish there before and it was pretty good but the salad is awesome! I’m impressed with the size and the amount of chicken. They’re definitely one of the better priced lunch options in the area. Staff is very nice also.

Google
I recently ordered the coconut shrimp and fish soup with a side order of plantains. I have ordered the plum pie, vegan hot dog, yucca fries, vegan empanada with tofu and mushroom inside for the filling, and the homemade mango drink! If you are vegan or plant based you are really going to love the food here. I love the taste of the food here. Everything on the menu has been thoughtfully curated and presented. There are item specials. Be sure to ask about any menu item and enjoy the food and atmosphere at Que Gusto!

Google
I've been looking forward to trying this place for a while, and overall had a descent experience. I was wanting something a little healthier so opted for the vegetarian empanada and the yucca fries. The fries were great and I would definitely get those again. The empanada was ok, it was very runny and hard to eat, even with a fork. To be fair I have not tried any other menu items and there's likely much better options, but this was my personal first time experience there. The atmosphere was chill, it has a pretty small dining room but it wasn't overcrowded at all for lunch.

Google
We loved the pork empanadas, but the chicken wasn't a favorite. The choripan was delicious along with the fried plantain. And for dessert, we had the exquisite dulce de leche cookie. We will be back. They have a reward system, but we didn't realize until after our purchase.

Yelp
There's a plethora of latin-American restaurants in Tulsa. However, Que Gusto may be the cutest one of them all. This eatery has been on my list for quite a while as it's location is hard to miss and the buzz seems to be never ending. I met up with a special friend for lunch on February 8, 2024. After a quick jolt from my downtown job, I arrived around 12:15pm on a Thursday. I've often passed the place and noticed their outdoor/sidewalk seating. I got in and I was surprised to see how quaint the inside space was. There were four, maybe five tables in total with enough room to sit 10-12 people maximum. There were about 3-4 people there (which you notice considering the square footage) However, I don't need much space to operate. The large overhanging menu jumps right out and the cashier is unavoidable. I ordered the Arroz Con Pollo with a House-Made Juice (Mango & Passion Fruit). The House-Made Juice is worth the price! It's tangy and potent. Plus, the drinks are self-serve! The food didn't take long and it was quite fulfilling. The rice was soft and the vegetables were light. The chicken was pretty standard but the plantains were wonderful! They had a glaze that shined on the crispy outer-layer while the inside was soft and sweet. The serving size wasn't as hearty but it packs a delicious punch. I was primarily there to chat with my friend but was surprised at how comfortable I found myself. Though the inside space isn't abundant, the theme of the eatery seems to be quality over quantity. I spent about $20 but I still took food home and I got a refill on the juice. Overall, I think Que Gusto is an excellent option for a weekday quick lunch or weekend meetup on a beautiful day. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Ok on this visit I took a few pics. Delicious as expected. Beef empanada on point perfection, a fresh tasty salad & the sweetest plantains. The service was wonderful and fast. Establishment was very clean and well stocked with foods and drinks.

Joanna M.

Yelp
This location has street parking only. The location is small with maybe 5-6 tables inside and an outside covered patio. I love that there was a gluten free option but be prepared to wait 17 minutes for it come out (they will tell you when you order). The yucca fries with the chipotle mayo were so good. The gluten free is thick like a pie but still good. I wish there was a no cheese option. It was quick to order even though there wasn't a formal line and people were checking in who had ordered so it was a little confusing to determine who had ordered and who needed to order.

Yelp
Que Gusto is a lovely little Ecuadorian spot that serves homemade empanadas and warm plates along with their fresh arepas. I got arroz con pollo and an arepa since it was my first time trying this place out. The girl working the register was super sweet & patient with me while suggesting what to add to the arepa (mayo chicken & avocado) and food was served rather quickly. I have been telling some friends about this place in hopes they will get to enjoy a delicious plate like I did. Also, this is just a block or two away from Guthrie Green which is nice if you need a filling small bite or plate nearby. Ps. I may be biased because I could eat plátano every day of my life - I love it that much lol.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick bite and it was so nice! It's a smallish space but there is plenty of outdoor seating. You order from the counter and they bring to your table. The yucca fries are delicious and there are several sauces to pick from. Definitely want to come back to try the empanadas.

Monique' M.

Yelp
Ordered the vegan empanada and dulce de leches cookie. The preparation time was way too long, considering only one item needed to be cooked. Despite the wait, the empanada was excellent. I didn't even need to use the accompanying sauce. The dulce de leches cookie was just okay. I would definitely return for the empanadas and preorder over the phone for pickup.

Aja L.

Yelp
This is such a cute spot in the heart of Tulsa's Greenwood district. Wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you're looking for Latin delights! Empanadas - check. Tres leches - check. The space was clean and employees had a smile. Sorry folks, that really is the baseline. I have no interest in going to a place that's dirty and the employees are unfriendly.

Desiree L.

Yelp
Que Gusto is cute and delicious! I got the Gluten Free Chicken Empanadas and the Yucca fries! It was soo good! The green sauce is amazing! My friend got the regular beef empanada. I wasn't a huge fan but it wasnt bad at all. I'd definitely go here again! Highly recommend! It is a little small inside so it's probably more ideal for picking up your orders to go but we were able to sit down and enjoy our food and 2-3 others were sitting inside eating as well. It's a delicious hidden gem! Excited to try the other items!

Lisa D.

Yelp
We ordered our food to go and called our order in. Glad we did- the wait time was 20 minutes. My friend had been in the week before and had ordered the vegan empanadas and said they were amazing. Also said we couldn't miss the fries. She said when she went last time she asked a lot of questions and they were very helpful and answered all her questions and verified everything would be vegan. The vegan breakfast empanadas come with vegan cheese, spinach, organic tofu and organic soy chorizo. We both said we wished it had more filling. Like more of the spinach- we both felt it was salty- we never add salt to our food, so maybe this was just the chorizo that came across as salty. We really liked the yucca fries and ate most of them on the drive home. The empanada was for brunch the next day. We didn't eat a lot of the shell- feeling that it was a lot of breading. Many may like that. The restaurant was cute when I ran in to get the takeaway order. They a a frequent diner program if you add your phone number. I already had a text coupon for my next dinning experience before I even made it to the car

Virginia C.

Yelp
The empanadas are good, but the wait was tremendous and there is limited seating inside, but they do have outdoor patio seating. This is next to Lone Wolf. But - it's the only game in town to get your fix, so I will wait. It's nice that they have vegan filled empanadas. They are relatively big vs a small empanada app. Think hand pie sizes and Midwest portions. I think I'll go back for some of the other side dishes. Also - Friday/Saturday = ceviche days but it's a little pricey around $20.

EF C.

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation. Various different ceviches were being served. I had a sandwich and it was very good - big enough for two people. I also had an empanada - it also was good. Went back on a Saturday and had the fish and shrimp stew - it was delicious!! Comes with a side of rice, avacado salad and a fried plantain. This is worth it!! For dessert I had a dulce de leche cookie. This place has become a must go when I'm Tulsa. Indoor seating currently is limited. They will be expanding next store.

Krupa H.

Yelp
Que gusto is owned by a local Ecuadorian woman who believes in using fresh, organic, locally sourced ingredients to make delicious Latin food. Service with a smile is provided in this clean, modern and cozy space.

Haniyyah B.

Yelp
Food was 10/10. Everything looked and smelled delicious on the plates I saw walking in so I was indecisive. First I ordered the empanada and switched to the arroz con vegetales. The lovely cashier was so nice about it. Let me tell you baybeee the vegan chorizo they put in the rice is the perfect addition. I would've loved it spicier but that's just a personal preference. It was well seasoned. The mixed vegetables were well done and the plantains on top was the bomb. Cute nook in the inside, and enjoyed watching the sunset from the outdoor seating area. I would recommend everyone reading this to come by for dinner! Try the fresh mango juice too.

James T.

Yelp
Great food and quick service. My favorite lunch spot. I can't get enough of the pork sandwich.

Brandon R.

Yelp
Honestly best empanada I ever had, coming from a Hispanic that loves every form of empanada. It was very juicy and FULL. The rice and chicken platter was also very filling and had plantains on top. Food was very pure and fresh. Also very friendly and helpful service/employees. I would come back again!

Caroline B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get dinner downtown. It's not too committal if you want a quick bite and not a full service meal. One empanada is big enough to fill you up, and they have delicious sides. The yucca bread is so unique and delicious. The fried plantains are sweet with a little crisp. The patacones are crispy and salty smashed plantains. The yucca fries are a delicious unique version of a fry. I have a hard time picking! We also tried the milhojas dessert and it was delicious! My favorite empanada is the ground beef. But you can't go wrong with whatever you order!

Daniel T.

Yelp
Today I had the slow roast pork sandwich and I can't get over how awesome this sandwich is. The pork is full of flavor and juice that does not disappoint. The sand which also contains lettuce, onion, tomatoes, avocados, and a special mayo. If you're in need of a legit pork sandwich and don't know where to go, look no further, Que Gusto is one of the most authentic family run business around. Go check them out!

Rachel N.

Yelp
Empanada Veggie one, but tbh, the vegan one is tastier! Veggie empanada had onions, cheese, and lots of mushrooms I think. Savory. The outer dough is a harmonized balance of soft, crisp, and easy to bite. The orange salsa gives some medium spicy ;)

May T.

Yelp
I had cheese and tomato empanadas and yucca fries, both are delicious especially because I had never had yucca fries, it was unexpectedly delicious!! They had outside terrace to sit, so we sat there as the weather was so nice! Service was also good ^^

Kevin T.

Yelp
I was glad I had the chance to try this place out as I love empanadas! While here, I got their pork empanada, and it was a little pocket of heaven. Compared to other empanadas, this one was like the size of two put together. They gave you a fork and knife to eat it was and the insides were so good. The exterior was crispy and flaky, and the insides were somehow very saucy. Definitely reminded me of a pot pie! This place had a variety of different empanadas I wish I could try!

Mary H.

Yelp
Pro : amazing home made fresh hot empanadas And other fresh food Cons: small dining area and long wait for food, parking can be a pain downtown

Grace H.

Yelp
Y'all I am such a sucker for Que Gusto. If I could eat their empanadas and yuca fries multiple time a week without my husband getting annoyed or concerned, I would. While he may not be a huge fan of empanadas, I have been my whole adult life. My freshman year of college, I dated a guy from Argentina and he would make empanadas all the time for me. Once I became an out-of-college adult, so many of my friends were Latinas from Argentina and Venezuela and they would make empanadas. I guess for me, empanadas are nostalgic for more care-free times, but they are also SO GOOD, and Que Gusto slaps. I co-work a few blocks away, and I'd say that on days I go to the office, there's about an 80% chance I'm getting Que Gusto. There is not a ton of space inside, but I think most folks take them to go based on location and proximity to so many offices. I've never struggled to get a spot to sit either inside or out, but I would never come here with a group of folks expecting to all sit and eat together. I do not eat pork, but the chicken and the beef empanadas are both so well seasoned every time, without being overly salty or anything. They are quite large, and one should be enough if you get a side. You must try the yucca fries and get the chipotle mayo sauce to dip them in. I think Que Gusto is a great spot for lunch if you are alone or with one or two folks, or even to get it catered for an event. I don't think I've ever had it with someone and had them say anything negative about the food they had.

Becs B.

Yelp
I had been searching for a good plantain dish in town and finally found this place! Everything I've tried is so good.

Kathy P.

Yelp
Came for the fanesca in 2024. It did not disappoint! Delicious food, beautifully presented, with kind and patient staff in a sleek, modern setting. (Also appreciated the environmentally-conscious tableware.) The staff juggled the special orders for fanesca, customer demands, and DoorDashers with grace.

Toni H.

Yelp
Cute little spot with a super menu! Vegan and vegetarian options. We shared the breakfast, vegetarian, and cheese & tomato empanadas; rice and vegetables; and plantains. I don't think I've had better! Service was awesome.

Erica W.

Yelp
This is a place where you will dream about their food. It is well-made with fresh, local ingredients. Everything they cool with it locally-sourced. How cool is that?! On Tuesdays, you can choose what fillings you would like for Arepas. This make me happy it is on a Tuesday! Take that "Taco Tuesday!" Very nice staff and there is a really nice area for outdoor dining. The inside does have some seating, but it is very limited.

Megan D.

Yelp
This is our favorite Tulsa restaurant. We love the quality of the food, organic and locally sourced. Everything we have ordered here has been impeccable. They have specials going throughout the week and for special holidays. The service is great and feels like a family dynamic. It can take some time since the food is made to order so if you are wanting a quick experience I would recommend ordering ahead of time. Highly recommend!

Victoria N.

Yelp
Space was limited. The staff taking our orders was not friendly and had an attitude. And another staff kept bringing us the wrong orders. The recycled utensils were not usable. The empanadas are huge but quite pricey. The beef fillings were okay but very wet, making the dough soggy. Yucca fries weren't meaty and were very oily. I didn't expect to spend that much on lunch, but what's sadder was that it wasn't worth it.

Josh H.

Yelp
Tasty downtown spot with a small but hip atmosphere! The Food is exceptional, the empanadas are best I have had. Try a couple different ones they all taste incredible and will fill you up. Next time I am eager to try some arepas and rice dishes.

Lynnet P.

Yelp
Walking through Mayfest we overheard a woman going on about the amazing ceviche so we had to ask... this place is about as good as it gets! It's similar to what we became addicted to in Ecuador. The ceviche comes with fried corn for a little crunch and fried plantain. Just delish! I believe it's only available on the weekends. The other equally delectable dish was the Choripan. It's a sandwich however the bread alone is incredible and there's a smoky link inside with a Chimichuri sauce that gives that bright flavor. Absolutely delicious. Will have to come back for the empanadas next.

Whitney C.

Yelp
WOW! Peruvian Empanadas!?? IN TULSA! You have to try this place. Chicken emps, pork sandys, yucca fries, OH MY!

Tyrone S.

Yelp
Great vegan options! My wife loved it, the empanada's are definitely a go to if your down at Guthrie Green or just downtown period!

Jyl C.

Yelp
Authentic food made with high quality ingredients. The empanadas are the biggest and most flavorful I've ever had. I've tried the pork and the chicken with beef up next on my list. On Tuesdays, the arepas are always a special treat and worth making a trip downtown to the Arts District. There's a new parklet right outside the restaurant to accommodate outdoor dining. We enjoyed a bottle of wine with our empanadas last weekend, and it was the perfect pairing! Highly recommend this place!

Sharon S.

Yelp
Talk about amazing local, small business worth making a special trip out for. We loved every bit of this meal. We were only in town for a week, and right after our workout, we stopped by Que Gusto, place was packed, on a loved Monday afternoon. I had the chicken empanadas and my son had the beef version. Both were scrumptious. For desert we shared an order of the dulce de leche cookies. PHENOMENAL AND UNFORGETTABLE! Def didn't expect this spot would have anything this good. But we were blown away. Thanks so much for having such an incredible meal ready for us to enjoy our last day in Tulsa! We will be back!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
What a find! The atmosphere was terrific. The people were kind, knowledge & accommodation. And the food is divine!! Can't wait to try more next time I'm downtown Tulsa!

Pirh Z.

Yelp
Que Gusto has made it into a very, very exclusive list nested within my favorite restaurants list: the home cooking list. This is a list that restaurants only make it onto when the meal makes me feel like I'm in someone's grandmother's kitchen. When you feel like you're not just eating soul food, but very specifically and intimately, the soul food of that one singular person. The owners of Que Gusto are from Ecuador and they're scratch-cooking an assortment of South American specialties. Everything is made with the highest quality ingredients and you can absolutely tell in the taste. Americans often drool over the food they eat while traveling abroad, in part because of the higher food quality standards in other countries, and Que Gusto gives you that experience. Don't let the deceptive simplicity of the dishes fool you. Things like chicken and rice or (yucca, not potato) fries are an elevated experience. I'd rather eat any dish at Que Gusto than a tasting menu at a high-end restaurant. There's something so organic about the beauty of what we make for our loved ones. And that's the experience I've had every time I've gone to Que Gusto. And, what drew us to them in the first place, is the range of gluten free options. Gluten free and vegan are marked clearly on the menu, and there's a lot to choose from. The first few times we went, we got the GF empanadas, that are made with fatty and filling almond flour and grass-fed butter. YUM. Once I was able to look past those flaky pastries, I discovered new favorites. The arroz con pollo and pork sandwich made GF with patacones standing in for bread are both phenomenal. This is one restaurant I honestly can't get enough of.

Dieanna P.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Wish I took a photo of everything. Had the Arepa shredded beef and chicken empanada. Would recommend! Cashier was nice and very helpful

Matthew J.

Yelp
Best place in town! Love there empanadas!! Services is great. Great vibes. Chill place

Tabitha B.

Yelp
Tulsa is lacking on the empanada market, so I'm glad that we have Que Gusto to help us out. This little joint in downtown has the tastiest empanadas you can dream of. I have tried the tomato mozzarella, and the traditional chicken empanadas, and both were amazing. Of course, you can't go without the plantains, those were super yummy too! The sweet empanada is not my fav, it's still good. However, I am just not a huge fan of the texture. I definitely reccomend this place for brunch, a simple/light dinner, or if you're wanting some authentic South American fare. Give them a try!

Maura B.

Yelp
Spent the weekend in Tulsa with my husband. On our way out of town we decided to stop at Que Gusto. He loves fried plantains so they caught his eye immediately. I had the breakfast empanada and he had the beef empanada. It had a nice crispy crust and the stuffing was nice a warm. We also shared the chicken and rice that was topped with fried plantains. It was a lot of food for just the two of us so we took some home. It was all really good. I can see us eating lunch there often if we lived in Tulsa.

Tracy P.

Yelp
UPDATE: I hadn't been here in a while because of the Cov. I needed to grab a Gluten Free lunch on our way to visit family and they open at 10:00 which was perfect. I'm so glad I did. I opened my meal in front of everyone else who was eating hot dogs and I had the lunch of envy. (Yes, as hard as it was to share I did.) My review below stands. It's still AMAZALICIOUS. It was my first time to do a call in order and I had no reaction. I bumped them up to the big 5 stars and am looking forward to going back soon! What a great place to eat. Friendly people and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to GF and food allergies. The overhead menu is clearly marked for GF, peanut, tree nut and vegan dishes. I wanted a GF empanada so bad but it had almonds in it so I had to pass. I ordered Arroz con Pollo and yucca fries instead and it was delicious. As I was eating I noticed there was Yucca bread on the menu with the description of '5 cheesy bread balls' that were marked GF so I ordered some. They were SERIOUSLY tasty. It is a more delicious version of stuffed crust on a pizza. I could definitely eat myself silly with those. By the way...my husband really enjoyed his glutened empanada!

Jesus G.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Good service , me and my wife like it but it's little bit pricey, my best thing was the Raw vegan chocolate Tart .. we loved that they have lots of vegan and gluten-free options

Furious P.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Full Stop. Family Run. Just go. Love sitting on the patio eating an Empanada.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
We stopped at Que Gusto on a last minute trip to Tulsa and we were so glad we did! Vegetarian and gluten free options abound and the customer service was so good. The young lady working the front counter was cheerful and friendly while explaining the menu to us. The empanadas are made to order so unless you are buying something in the prepared section, be prepared to wait 10-15mins for your food. We tried the Yucca bread which tastes like Brazilian cheese bread, fried plantains, GF beef empanada, and tomato and cheese empanada. For dessert we tried a plantain cake and a sweet GF empanada with custard filling. Soooo good. The empanadas came with a little container of a homemade sauce/salsa that tasted very fresh. The dining area is very small with a long bench to one side with tables/chairs and a few other tables with max capacity under 20 I would guess. The decor was simple and clean. We will be back for sure!

Mike F.

Yelp
This is authentic food. Every time we travel, we look for local and authentic cultural food. This is definitely a great place with many different options. Great food, portions and price. We will be back.

Monique B.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this tasty Ecuadorian restaurant Highly recommend the Wild Shrimp and Mahi Combo Ceviche. Served with Patacones, topped with toasted corn which are more like a nut in size and dimension. Great consistency. The Pork Sandwich is way better than the name. The bread tastes freshly baked onsite, the pork is moist and flavorful. And the avocado is a simple, but wonderful twist The decor is modern, and the price is affordable. Rafael served us and treated us well as first timers. He rocks! Forgot to take photos of the food ... we dug in as soon as it was served. LOL

Jeff C.

Yelp
So with my favorite Mexican place in downtown Tulsa out of business, I decided to check out some new places. I am so glad I did! The empanadas are out of this world good. I got the beef for lunch. Meaty, flavorful, and all around amazing. I bought two more for dinner that night! I will 100% be back next time I'm in town. Only problem is, with such great food, I won't be able to try everything

Matt M.

Yelp
The arroz con vegetales (a terrific vegan option to the traditional chicken) here is simply AMAZEBALLS, as is the breakfast empanada (NOT a vegan option). Hubby loved his tomato mozzarella empanadas, as well as his plantains and coffee alike.

Eileen S.

Yelp
It's so fun to be at a new food place and try new food. We were there on a Tuesday, so we tried their Tuesday arepa special. The chicken chorizo and chicken avocado arepas were great. The ground maize dough is quite a new taste for me, and I enjoy it. Same for the dulce de leche cookie. I actually made my way to Que Gusto after seeing a photo of their slow roast pork sandwich on Instagram. It was as good as I hoped it would be. Love the crusty bread with generous filling. I look forward to be back to try their empanada and weekend specials. The staff there were really nice to help a patron who thought he threw his Invisalign in the bin. They offered to sift through their trash for him which I thought was above and beyond what they needed to do.
