The Hottest Restaurants in San Diego, July 2024

"Does San Diego need another ramen shop? Apparently yes, judging from the ever-present line outside this ramen-ya at Westfield UTC. Though Ramen Nagi is famous in Tokyo for its niboshi (dried fish) ramen, its stateside restaurants specialize in pork-based tonkotsu, with other broth options ranging from spicy miso to squid ink or pesto. Customers are also able to select the thickness and firmness of their noodles, as well as a preferred level of garlic or oil for their bowls Don’t miss the lacy-edged gyoza, too." - Candice Woo

Good Ramen, with good service. I just think their broth was too oily. Their chicken karage was good but also too oily for me. I believe they added sesame oil on top or something. No beer or alcohol. The place was nice and the staff were nice and friendly, too. The seating system is little different so you will need to stay in a line until they give you a table.

The lead should have more patient with elder customers. You won't have return customers if you treat them impolite. The ramen was ok. The egg was fine . The chauchu taste like and look like thick ham with a porky smell . Inside was crowded with server and prep. The little sides are nice and green onion should cut nicer. Really should do better with such a good location. Really waste. Hope they can do improvements.

You know you’re in for a treat when there are only three items on the menu…ramen, karage and char siu rice. Had two of the three and the ramen choices are delicious. The char siu rice was a great starter. Service was fast and efficient beginning with the line up (yes there is one, but worth the wait) where you get the menu selection paper and get seated in about 30 minutes. Payment is cashless only so bring some plastic.

Love the ramen here and appreciate the operational efficiency. Ramen - you can choose width and broth saltiness, which I really appreciate because I find every ramen place to be too salty. I had the pesto ramen which wasn’t as weird as it sounds (but also not amazing). Would go with the standard noodles next time. They’ll take your order while you’re in line and there’s multiple verifications of your order. So you can eat very quickly!

3/5 Stars - A Mixed Experience: Ramen Nagi La Jolla Review I recently visited Ramen Nagi in La Jolla, eager to indulge in a satisfying bowl of ramen. Unfortunately, my experience was mediocre. Pros 1. Spice Levels: Customizable spice levels were a highlight, catering to diverse palates. 2. Service: Friendly, attentive staff provided decent service. Cons 1. Ramen Quality: Noodles were undercooked, leaning toward raw. 2. Limited Appetizers: Few options, lacking variety. 3. Kid-Friendly: Most dishes contain spice, limiting options for children. 4. Portion Size: Moderate, but not generous. Recommendations for Improvement 1. Refine noodle cooking consistency. 2. Expand appetizer selection. 3. Introduce kid-friendly, spice-free options. Rating Breakdown • Ambiance: 3/5 • Menu Variety: 2.5/5 • Food Quality: 3/5 • Service: 4/5 • Value: 3/5 • Overall Experience: 3/5 Ideal For • Spice enthusiasts • Adults seeking authentic ramen • Those open to trying various spice levels Not Suitable For • Families with young children (due to spice levels) • Those seeking extensively varied appetizers Conclusion Ramen Nagi La Jolla has potential but falls short in key areas. With refinement, it could become a top-tier ramen destination. Would I return? Possibly, to reassess improvements.

Long queue on Sunday. Decided to try during weekdays. Average ramen. Broth is too oily (Richness in oil = normal, suggest to choose light or none). MSG? Feel thirsty after meal.

Almost the most popular dining restaurant in Westfield UTC mall. Many people are waiting in line even if it's just 17:00 as the start time of weekday dinner. The inside dining space is quite small but they have a fancy outsider dinning space with a great pool and mall view. The menu is quite simple as one would get a sheet to choose what to order for the Ramen option, what are the DIY options like the firmness, the thickeness of noodles, garlic, salt, vegetables and what should be the add-on. The inside space is crowded but everyone enjoys their own food. There are many staff members to help customers. Do remember to leave enough time for the waiting lane and dinning time here.

Very authentic Japanese Ramen shop! Digged that we could customize it; noodle style(thick/thin), fatness, saltyness. Karaage chicken was Amazing, we just wish they didn't charged us twice, tho. Ay! Make sure to Check the reciept, before leaving! ;D
