I recently visited Rasa in New York, and it was an unforgettable experience! The food came out quickly. We started with the Sarawak, which is a bowl of pure magic. The flavors are unlike anything I’ve had before. It’s a deep, rich broth infused with aromatic spices, layered with tender noodles that soak up all the deliciousness. The menu describes it as having a "combination of earthy and umami flavors," and they were spot on—each bite was a comforting burst of flavor. The Sarawak is perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of heat and richness. It’s a must-try for anyone craving something different and exciting. We also had the Pad Thai with chicken, which was fresh, vibrant, and full of delicious crunch. The balance of sweet, sour, and savory was impeccable. The chicken was tender, and the flavors just came together perfectly. If you're in New York, Rasa is a must-visit! Will definitely be back for more!

I really like this restaurant. On my first visit, I had the Malay wings, and they were phenomenal—I ended up ordering about three rounds! My second visit, I tried the curry chicken, but I wasn’t a fan. However, their drinks are top-notch. One Mojito, and you're set for the night. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but if you're a fan of Malaysian food, I would definitely recommend it. I might go back just for the wings and drinks!

I recently dined at Rasa with my family, while the service was excellent—friendly and attentive—the food itself was just okay. The flavors were average and didn’t quite capture the boldness I was expecting from Malaysian cuisine. Another thing to note is that the prices are on the higher end, which didn’t quite match the quality of the dishes. For what you pay, I expected a more flavorful experience. Overall, great service, but the food and pricing could be better aligned.

Absolutely delicious. The food reminded me of lunches at Hawker centers in Singapore. The satay was grilled crispy with the most delicious peanut sauce, and the chicken and rice was packed with flavor. Every sambal was a treat. Looking forward to returning!

My partner and I ordered Sarawak Laksa, chicken satay, and curry puffs. Sarawak Laksa had a rich, robust broth full of flavors and warm spices that are in harmony with each other. Chicken satay is one of the best satays we eat in New York to date (satay came with delicious peanut sauce and sweet soy sauce / kecap manis). The curry puffs were quite filling as an appetizer and super tasty. Overall, we are satisfied with the food quality and the price!

Great food at Rasa! The dishes were super tasting with a large menu selection to choose from. The service was excellent, waiters were friendly and checked on you. They made us feel welcome in their restaurant. Honestly I felt that other customers service professionals should learn from them. Looking forward to eating there again!

Have both catered from here and dined in the restaurant and I can safely say that they do Singaporean/Malaysian food well at great prices and with good service. Always a pleasure to dine or deliver from here!

Randomly came across this place while in the area and can i say omg, the food was amazing best singapore noodles and laska i ever had. This place needs more love. And the service was exceptional.

More like a 4.5 for me than a 4, as this was a real revelation in terms of finding actual Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants I enjoy in the city. I will say outright this place has some excellent satay, curry puffs and hokkien prawn mee. The flavors are absolutely solid and bursting. The curry laksa and the kankung belecan were super awesome and the latter was pretty spicy as well (which I don't mind, though it was hard to make it edible for the kids). My only real disappointment was the hainan chicken rice which was just okay but not as good as some that I've tried elsewhere such as Taste Good in Elmhurst (which is still the gold standard for me re: Malay/Sgp food). But if we're talking about pound for pound great flavor and food - this is absolutely perfectly great for anyone looking to indulge big time. It's also worth pointing out the Cendol ice was also good. Not 100% authentic but still a pretty decent clone of what I used to enjoy in the hawker centers of Singapore. The service here was super friendly and excellent. I'd absolutely come back here any time.

If you know me in any capacity, you know that Malaysian food is my absolute favorite cuisine in the entire world. When I saw the spot as a potential fountain of flavor, I couldn't wait to come here and sample their menu. I was very excited to try the beef rendang curry here. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was pretty busy and it was also the Halloween day parade so I opted to take my food to go instead. My waitress was super nice and accommodating to my request and packed my food pretty quickly. The ambience here is really nice and perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a first date although it can get pretty loud. I took my beef rendang and meat stuffed pancake to go. It could be that my food was in a to go container, but the pancake was not as appetizing as I thought it would be. I just feel the meat lacked seasoning and the pancake exterior was not crispy enough. The beef rendang left a lot to be desired. I really wanted to be wowed by this dish, but I was disappointed. The color was not the dark brown caramelized color we expect from beef rendang. This curry definitely needed to stay on the stove for much longer. The flavors were very, very muted. I feel the seasoning was completely lacking. I could not taste any of the Galangal, lemongrass, chilies, or coconut coming through. The curry was also a little bit more on the runnier side, which I don't necessarily mind as long as the flavor is there but sadly this dish definitely needs improvement in that area. I hope they can strive to make the rendang curry closer to the authentic version that is eaten in Malaysia. I would love to come back here again if they work on improving this dish.

The service was fast and courteous. Our server was from Indonesia while the owner and cook was from Malaysia. The food was very good and authentic. I would definitely recommend it. Although a bit pricy at closer to $30 per person. We tried their Nasi Kerabu with Fried Chicken and their Penang Hokkien Mee soup. The portions were large and very filling. We also had their Malaysian Teh Tarik. The restaurant itself is not very big but well decorated and clean. So far this is one of the better Malaysian restaurants in Manhattan. Would definitely return to try some of their other dishes.

I've been to Rasa a couple of times over the years and it's always been a solid halal spot for me. I went with a large group of co-workers and most of us were happy with what we got whether it was fish or meat. I opted for the Sarawak Laksa and it was very tasty but I feel like the broth could've used more coconut flavor. All in all, this will always be a reliable spot for me.

I like the shrimp noodle soup. Taste of shrimp Soup is medium strong. I also like their cocktail drink. So strong and cold. Curry sauce is good also more on the sweet side. Waitress was very nice and takes us group pictures. Environment is good lighting and clean. We enjoy this restaurant.

Just okay. Ordered some spice blend broth dish with some claimed connection to Anthony Bourdain. While the broth was outrageously complex, the proteins (hardboiled egg, chicken, and shrimp) were all below grade. The egg was still chilly in parts from being refrigerated, the chicken was spongey, and there were only a few shrimp. I liked the potato/beef appetizer but the main was disappointing and I was hungry again within two hours.

We were a large group of 8 and they were able to accommodate us on a Thursday night with no issue. It was pretty empty inside. Malaysian fusion restaurant near NYU. Do not expect authentic Malaysian food here. They have alot of items on the menu from various asian cuisines. The Malaysian curry and beef rendang was pretty good. All of the other dishes were average. Do not get the mango salad (not even pictured here) but it tasted like chopped up mango with no flavor. The service was good and pretty quick for such a large order. Nice servers.

The beauty of New York is getting to try food from every country out there. Malaysian good hitting the spot at Rasa NYC. Please get the Rendang beef if you enjoy meat-based dishes! Service is also great and it wasn't too crowded of a spot on a weekday evening. Their chicken noodles were ok - nothing too special so I'd skip it personally.

Rasa is an underrated gem in the West Village that I've been coming to for years, ever since discovering it during my grad school days. This place feels like a well-kept secret, as I rarely need a reservation and can usually walk right in and get a table. The servers are always friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The food is consistently delicious, with authentic Malaysian flavors that hit the spot every time. Plus, the ambience is super chill, perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for real Malay food in the city.

Rasa was amazing! It's my third time here and the food always impresses. Great location, ambience is great and the service is very helpful. The food is full of flavor and it's nice to try to a new Asian cuisine besides the usuals. This is a great way to try halal Malaysian food in New York, and the portions felt huge!

The ambiance was very good here! the staff was very nice and helped answer questions about how the dish was prepared. The food was decent and I would recommend the drunken noodles. However, nothing was very exceptional.

Rasa was a decent place for southeast Asian food. It was easy to get a seat on a Tuesday evening, thankfully. The interior was clean and spacious for a restaurant in this area, and service was excellent. For mains, the beef rendang was excellent. The beef was tender and the curry was packed with delicious flavors, definitely a great dish. Unfortunately, the Hainanese chicken left a lot to be desired. The chicken was somewhat bland and a little tough in terms of texture. Definitely not the same level of execution as the rendang. Overall, a decent option, with an extensive menu that has plenty of selections. And each entree was under $30, so it didn't break the bank! But the food won't necessarily blow your mind.

I've eaten at Rasa once in the restaurant though this review is for their yu sheng (魚生) that was special-ordered for Chinese/Lunar NewYear for a dinner party at my friend's home. This is a unique Malaysian Chinese traditional dish that is a salad of sorts with strips of raw fish. The ingredients are place unmixed on a large serving platter and tossed together with chopsticks by everyone eating as a kind of symbolic/superstitious "prosperity toss". Each ingredient (27 total according to Wikipedia) has a meaning and basically the intent is that this dish will bring you success and wealth. Usually the ingredients consist of fish with daikon, carrots, red pepper, turnips, red pickled ginger, sun-dried oranges, key lime leaves, coriander, chilli, jellyfish, chopped peanuts, toasted sesame seeds, shrimp crackers or fried dried shrimp, with a sauce made with plum sauce, rice vinegar, kumquat paste and sesame oil. Getting back to Rasa's version of this dish, it was a hit! Everyone including a few kids had fun mixing up the dish and seeing that many people went back for seconds, it was clear the flavors won them over. Personally I think this probably could've used a little more fish but overall I can't complain, this was delicious!

Made ressos for 6 people (4 adults + 2 babies) for a Sunday at 1. Not everyone arrived until 1:30 but luckily they were able to accommodate us, which was much appreciated, especially with babies. To start, I had the iced butterfly pea yuzu tea. It was nice and refreshing, and not too sweet. For food, we decided to order a bunch of things to share: -Satay tofu puffs - the satay sauce was really good. This comes with 7 pieces -Roti canai - can't go wrong with roti canai. The curry it came with for dipping was great. Although for $10, I would have expected the roti to be a bit bigger -Char kuay teow (rice noodles with chives, bean sprouts, eggs & soy sauce with chili sauce) - this is usually my go to dish at Malaysian spots and it did not disappoint. Usually, it's make with thin rice noodles but here, they used broad noodles, which I actually preferred because I love me some broad noodles. The flavor was great - plenty of wok hei. For the noodle and rice dishes, you can choose your protein (shrimp, tofu, chicken, beef, squid, seafood). We went with the shrimp and they gave us plenty of plump pieces of shrimp. 10/10 would order again -Kampong fried rice (eggs, onions, sambal anchovies, chili, carrots, peanuts, shrimp paste, cucumbers, and an egg on top - for the protein, we went with shrimp and again, they give a good amount. The fried -Mee Hoon Goreng (thin rice noodles with bean sprouts, carrots, scallion, eggs, fried shallots, with chili sauce) -Hainanese chicken - the chicken was overcooked and a bit dry. It also looked darker than most Hainan chicken. The rice and the ginger chili sauce were good though The food is good but not Chinatown good and of course, not Chinatown prices. The portions are also smaller. But if you're looking for good Malaysian/Singaporean food and you don't want to trek to Chinatown, then Rasa is a great option.

RASA! What a cool name right? Don't you just want to rhyme it or make a freestyle out of it? "I was down at Rasa wit my homie Mufasa, Simba WHACK he prolly still eatin microwaved pasta..." But I digress. This place was PHENOMENAL. My homie who rates Thai food for a living gave it "a 8 or 9," and I never seen him give above a 7.5. The best Thai I have had in the city, well Terra Thai lowkey is right there but it's so different I can't compare. WAIT Y'ALL STILL EATING AT FISH CHEEKS?!?!? (LeBron laughing emojis) COULDN'T BE ME!! We went with the little beef pancake thing to start, the Malay Hokkien Mee (noodles), Massaman Curry, and the beef special that was recommended on the back of the menu but I forgot the name. Everything was amazing, but I think the highlight was the noodle dish bec...well now that I type it out and really think on it, idk. Everything was so flavorful, yet not overwhelming. I ordered Tom yam (shrimp) soup. A soup had only 2 shrimps. I was told it comes only 2. :( and almost nothing inside.... Then take $8? I ordered fried calamari and it came too soft and not round one. we were more excited about food qualities since it says 4 at yelp customer reviews . :( I'm not recommending here.

Came to Rasa for Mother's Day but have also been here countless times before for halal Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine and it hits the spot every time! More of a casual dining spot with lovely authentic decor, service is always excellent and the food comes out the fastest I've seen in a long time.. especially for NYC standards. My husband and I get the Malay hokkien mee with beef every time because it is soooo full of flavor (without being spicy) and the meat is cooked to perfection every time. The first time we came here we loved this dish so much that we ordered another to take home. Other good things are the chicken satay, and dumplings and what really surprised me were the Singapore crispy sambal fries! It looks like seasoned potato chips but the flavor profile is nothing like I've tasted before l, would highly recommend! Added plus was the tasty chai they gave us for free on Mother's Day, was such a nice gesture and only made me love them more!

I found this gem by mistake. I was in a rush, and I needed to eat dinner, so I went here. Low and behold, the restaurant was Indonesian/Malaysian. I was not disappointed! I tried the Laksa which is Malaysian, and it was good (though I can't really compare it to anything). I got the shrimp sambal. The name was questionable, but it reminded me of the food I would get at church LOL. Solid! I also really love shrimp and rice, so it was just a good meal that caught me by surprise. Would want to come back to try more.

I had a lovely meal at Rasa! The staff is so friendly and the food comes out fast and HOT, so you know it's fresh! The menu has lots of options from Thai to Singaporean to Malaysian. I will definitely be back to try more! The ambiance is nothing crazy but it's a nice place to get some good Asian food. Fries with curry dipping sauce: 9/10 Fresh hot fries and the curry dipping sauce was delicious! I only wish the fries were a bit crispier and slatier but overall this was a great appetizer to share before the meal. Char Kueh Teow: 10/10 With beef. Here is the description: rice noodles with chives, bean sprouts, eggs, chives & soy sauce with chili sauce. This dish was delicious! There were so many noodles and the beef was very flavorful. The meat wasn't too oily or too tough. I loved all the flavors in this dish and it had a slight kick from the chili sauce but it was barely detectable so it didn't overwhelm you. I would definitely get this again I mean just look at the photo - it DOES taste as good as it looks!

The food at Rasa was delicious, flavorful and halal. The server was so friendly and attentive to the large group I sat with. I think his name was Kenny...? Very nice. The curry puffs were a great starter, filling, and great taste. The pad see ew was is always one of my top picks when I see it on the menu. This was a great choice, and on the plus side, it heats up well for left overs.

I've been wanting to try this place, as I am a fan of Malaysian cuisine and have passed by it many times. The interior is spacious with lovely decor with pretty yellow lights in a spherical shape and brick walls. There is a calm and inviting ambiance. For my beverage, I selected the hot Teh Tarik, which is Malaysian pulled tea. This was so tasty, creamy, smooth, with just the right amount of sweetness. The menu is quite extensive and I decided to try one of the chef specialties: Nasi Kerabu with Kampung Fish. Since I had never had Kampung Fish before, I asked what it was like and was told it was similar to Mackarel. This included green beans, beansprouts, vietnamese mint, ginger flower, half salted egg, homemade chili, as well as cucumber. The plating everything was beautiful, but I really wasn't a fan of the fish, as it was bony and tasted very fishy. I also didn't really enjoy the cucumber with beansprouts salad. There was a weird flavor to it that I couldn't put my finger on. One thing I did like was the blue coconut sticky rice, which was cooked perfectly. I mentioned to the waiter that I didn't like the fish, and he graciously let me order something else. I went with Mee Goreng with shrimp, which consisted of egg noodle with beansprouts, tofu, tomatoes, egg, potato, and fried shallots in chili sauce. There were a decent amount of shrimp. They were plump and juicy. However, I felt like the noodles and veggies were not all that flavorful. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and patient. The prices were a little high. For example, the tea was $6, noodles cost over $20, and most Chef Specialties were more than $25. Since I wasn't that satisfied with my meal, I don't think I will be returning.

Was craving Malaysian food and found this cozy spot in West Village! Google mentions this place an extensive Japanese menu including sushi, which wasn't the case when we visited in December 2023. Other than that, the menu has everything that you would expect from a Malaysian restaurant (satay, curries, nasi lemak/goreng, teh tarik) We ordered the roti canai as an appetizer. It's thicker than usual but very crispy and soft inside, and the curry paired really well with it! Though it is a bit pricy for what it is. For our main dishes we ordered Nasi Lemak with fried chicken, Char Kueh Teow with beef, and Malaysian curry with chicken. The Malaysian curry was great, it came with a good amount of chicken and pairs perfectly with the included rice. The Char Kueh Teow was also delicious and super flavorful! It packs a bit of heat which we enjoyed, but definitely ask them to tone it down if you're bad with spicy. Warning: extremely hot since it comes straight out of wok! I was too eager to dig in and my tongue paid the price for it. The Nasi Lemak was my favorite, it came with a green rice (coconut?) that was fragrant and sweet. The chicken was the star of the dish, perfectly crispy and juicy inside with a distinct spice profile that puts classic fried chicken to shame. Service was great, they catered well to allergies without us having to ask first. Food came out as soon as it was ready. For that reason, I would recommend family style sharing so nothing gets cold on the table, and also you can try a bit of everything! Overall great restaurant that definitely satisfied our craving. We'll be back for more!

It's been a while since I e been here but Yelp has that recommendation to review places you e checked into, given a star rating, and posted pictures too... it's really in me for never taking the time to jot a few words down and while the Expedia a bit unforgettable and fantastic, I don't know if I have the words to express it. I loved the place, it brought me back to Indonesia, I made a friend at the bar and the staff was wonderful. I tried remembering all the words I picked up in Bali and learned a few more; but all that was really said that stick was the fact I need to get back over there very very very soon :( The food was phenomenal, I had bordaines favorite and kept it steadily draining from the bowl- so delicious, gotta go back.

This week was my first time revisiting rasa in five years. I'm always in awe of the impact the South Asian diaspora has on other cuisines and how those cuisines take that influence to make it their own. Sawarak Laksa: The laksa broth is just as flavorful and alluring as I remember. The thing about the chicken is it's juicy but not flavorful at all despite being in such a lovely broth. Kampong Fried Rice: This was a wonderful variety of tastes and textures. The funky shrimp paste. The refreshing cucumbers. The crispy anchovies and shrimp chips. All delicious. Roti Canai: This is what south asians call paratha. You can definitely find paratasfor cheaper in Indian restaurants. The potato in the curry was severely undercooked The pulled tea: Was delicious and pricey. Tastes just like masala tea, which you can also find for cheaper in Indian restaurants. Service was attentive and quick during lunchtime.

My meal at Rasa was my first experience with Malaysian food and it was very delicious! We got the Malaysian Combo as a group for appetizers and I had the chance to try Curry Puffs and the Chicken Satay. We also ordered and shared a Tom Yum Soup. My favorite was the Chicken Satay and I could do a whole dish of the Satay made here in the future. We also shared a Roti Canai and the Roti was made really well and the curry that came with it was delicious. The friends that I went out to eat with recommended trying the Nasi Lemak since it is. a signature Malaysian dish and I found it to be very delicious. They have the options to do a Curry or a Fried Chicken and I had the curry and it was great. My friend chose the Fried Chicken and I tried a bit of her's also and it was also very good. In the Nasi Lemak, they also serve rice, a variety of sauces, half a boiled egg, and some fried anchovies - everything in the dish complimented each other and I hope to explore more of Malaysian food one day in the future!

Pictured: Manchurian chow mein $12.50 and Chicken Tangra Masala $15.95 This Asian fusion restaurant had so many delicious options to choose from. We went with the manchurian chow mein and the chicken tangra masala. The chicken was very crispy and tender. Both dishes were packed with flavor and had a unique taste. I was recently there for the second time & I gotta say I loved the whole experience! Loved the food, the service was excellent. Keep up the great work guys !

Went to this place because of a suggestion. Service was normal and food was good. Nothing extraordinary with service. Things went south when it was time to pay. We asked for the bill but it was taking too long to be given to us so instead my husband went up to the counter to pay for it. Lady who was at the counter asked him which suggested percent to tip and she was about to check it off herself. My husband said that he would do it himself. He tipped $20 for a $128 bill for 4 people which was fair. Apparently that wasn't good enough for the lady at the counter because she said that the minimum percent to tip was 18% so my husband became upset and said that's not how tipping works, we tip according to our satisfaction. He decided to cross off his tip because he got upset at the lady's request for the minimum of 18%. Lady then started to say "oh no no that's fine" but my husband was already upset at her request for a higher tip. We then walk out of the restaurant and the manager follows my husband asking for what happened. My husband then explained to him that the lady was asking for a higher tip and that it doesn't work that way, he knows because he worked as a kitchen manager. The man then said they aren't after the tip that they don't want our tip but decides to ask him where he's from and my husband said California so then he has the audacity to laugh sarcastically and says oh ok that's why. We decided to walk away but this rude manager tries to comment one more time and says "you're from the Philippines right" then he laughs again then says "ok ok you go you don't tip anyways" which left us stunned but we decided to keep walking away anyways. This has never happened to us that a small casual restaurant like this would force us to give a specific tip. It wasn't even a fancy type of restaurant. Will never go back or suggest this place due to that lady in the counter and especially the rude manager who not only offended us but was racist towards us.

The food was so delicious, it was my first time trying Malaysian food and this was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was great and this is an awesome place to go for drinks with friends. Service was also very good.

Malaysian spot with tasty, authentic options. Anthony Bourdain had been here before for the Sarawak laksa, and that's exactly what I got. The broth was nuanced and immensely flavorful. Note that it does have shrimp. It was so good that even when my dad had some soup go down the wrong pipe, he still kept eating the soup in between coughing. The Malaysian combo came with 2 of each item - chicken satay, murtabak (these little potato pastry things), and curry puff pastries (note there's meat inside). My mom got the Nasi Kerabu with fried chicken and loved it. It came with blue rice, which was pretty cool, and the chicken was well done - lightly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The mango smoothie was a bit icy but I liked how they added a bit of whipped cream and strawberries on top. Credit cards are accepted. Indoor and outdoor dining is available. Two gender neutral bathrooms are available in the back. They do have alcohol; the Mekong whiskey was earthy and my dad enjoyed his neat. It's good for big groups as well as one-on-one hangouts, and they do have takeout. Overall, highly recommend grabbing food at this place whenever you're craving something flavorful.

I live in Boston and came here just to order take out as I was feeling super homesick.... The staff are so super friendly, we came around 3/4pm on a Friday and we're given (free) teh tarik while we waited for our order. The food was pretty good. I wasn't blown away as I'm used to tasting a lot more spices (flavor, not heat!) from my family's cooking. But that could just be me!! Still a worthy stop though

I love Rasa and have been going for at least 7 years. Located in the bustling and ever changing west village, this is a family owned joint with semi traditional Singaporean decor, warm and inviting. The first time I went to Rasa was after an NYU event where Rasa catered a dinner for faculty, staff, arts features and their guests. It was a feast galore with Tom yum, calamari, spicy crab, roti canai, belachan, beef rendang, and more. Ever since, when a friend wants those hybrid flavors-- some curry element, a seafood or veg, savory umami, rice always and forever? Here's where I go. The prices are decent yet reflect the increased neighborhood and I'd rather my coins go to a family owned person of color migrant entrepreneur. Over COVID, I've picked up take out simply because I was in the area around 4-5 times. During winter 2021, I was freezing and eating at home mostly due to panic and my own immunocompromised welfare. Rasa is perfect to have home flavors and decent portions! I waited for my order and they told me I could sit at a table in the meantime, offered me water, hot tea, and a small rice cake dessert for free! My order only took another five minutes, but I was treated so thoughtfully during a very hard time in the blistering cold that customer service like that can't be taught. Support for customers like that is communal, intentional, kind. My order was perfectly cooked. The belacan was shrimp paste bold with well textured okra, Nasi leak had every small dish curated to crunchy texture, spicy, comforting coconut rice. A standard, roti canal was sumptuous buttery layered bread in a spicy curry sauce and any curry dish I ordered had ample protein balance with vegetables. Sometimes you need exquisitely executed flavorful food and service that doesn't feel cut and paste, but real people doing thoughtful food service. I go to Singaporean and Malaysian food in Manhattan alot; Laut, Rasa, and more. Rasa scores in personalization and in a range of options. If you're taking an or of town long time friend who doesn't any away from spice but actually find towards it thrilled, who needs a sit down location that's warm and still styled, Rasa is your place. Every asian and in general BIPOC friend I bring stopping by from the Midwest for work or to visit family, loves this place. In this slice of the neighborhood it's nearly impossible not to eat somewhere not molded by an air of pretentious was and have quality food. If you like Thai, Cambodian, south asian cuisine, then Rasa is the delicious and inevitable answer.

Rasa offers excellent Malaysian food in the city. The Murtabak Pancake makes for a wonderful menu item that is complete with everything you could possibly crave from an appetizer - a decadent filling, crispy exterior, and an incredible depth of flavor. There is a delicious contrast between the savory insides of the Murtabak Pancake and the slightest hint of sweetness on the outside. The Maggi Mee Goreng is also amazing, comprised of onions, lettuce, bell peppers, and a fried egg to top it all off. The noodles, however, really make this dish stand out - each individual noodle is bursting with complex notes that are drawn out through the cooking process. The chefs at Rasa are clearly skilled with a wok and you can't go wrong with anything from the Wok Fry Noodles section of the menu. Overall, this is an excellent place to come for dinner, and I'll definitely make a trip back soon.

Amazing. The Nasi Lemak had an exquisite taste. The chicken was super tender and well seasoned. This was my first time trying Malaysian food and I enjoyed it. 10/10. I also tried the Roti Canai. Super delicious. The broth was flavorful. Only complaint is the small portion! Quick service too! The waitress was super friendly.

We came for here for lunch yesterday not expecting much. This is more a bistro. Thanks to the kitchen staff and the waiter who advised us wisely. All dishes we ordered were fantastic. In food there are few key elements that separate a good meal from a great one. The Icechang could have been sweeter but the waiter quickly recognised and brought us a molasses sauce to pour over.

Stopped in for an early fall lunch, seated in the outdoor seating area. Our server was very attentive, and we soon had an excellent Pad Thai with shrimp (Deputy Yelper rated among the best she's had in quite a while), and a Thai vegetable curry. All ingredients very fresh, prepared in a somewhat minimalist style (nothing cloying or heavy about the curry), and totally appetizing. Definitely on our permanent list for Malaysian/Thai in the west Village.

My friend and I had heard good things about Rasa but were pretty disappointed with our delivery order. Maybe the ambiance is a big part of their appeal, but food-wise the dishes didn't meet expectations. The roti canai and curry chicken were okay but unremarkable, a little on the salty side. Our main gripe was with the clearly frozen vegetables used in the curry laksa: the carrots and broccoli especially had that distinctly bland freezer taste that pervaded the entire soup. The dish had the quality of a microwaveable meal you could find at a grocery store, and I definitely expected something better at their price point.

I've been wanting to try Malaysian food for a while and wasn't disappointed. I had the calamari and Sarawak Laksa and it was full of flavor and perfect for a cold day. I wish there was more seating, especially since we had been seated near the door so there was a draft. The service was good but could've been better as one of my party ordered food to go and it wasn't ever followed up with.

Sarawak laksa packs SO much flavor. Its creamy, coconuty, aromatic, fragrant, and pungently delicious. Definitely, definitely get that! The Laksa was about $20, tax and tip not included. Definitely not the cheapest laksa around the city, but its not bad for the area. *Throw in a teh tarik (malay ice tea) to really add a cherry on top of that proverbial sundae.

Outstanding food, my only gripe would be that there are no options to alter the spice levels of the dishes. At least not to my knowledge at the time. I was seated immediately 6;30 PM, dinner time on a Saturday evening, but I was dining alone. Larger parties might have to wait a little bit on a weekend because the place was packed. I have to talk about the service first because it was superb. The man who seated me was very jovial and friendly, the waitress was nice enough to recommend her personal favorite dish, the Beef Rendang, and their best selling dish. It was absolutely perfect. I would've preferred more spice but I can't knock it for that. The beef is certified halal, and melted in your mouth. They serve it with a super fragrant curry gravy, topped with what appeared to be coconut flakes? And the curry gravy seemed more like a goulash style, with thin shreds of beef in it. Perfect amount of beef to gravy ratio and even though the dish was a bit pricey, you're getting a good portion along with the quality. The plate comes with some bright refreshing stalks of cucumber, which were very fresh and they serve a pickled radish and carrot. The waitress even gave me extra vegetables on the house after I told her that I was looking for a dish with a substantial amount of vegetables earlier when I ordered. Oh and the green tea was very good and earthy and free refills! Last but not least, the Satay Chicken. Again, a bit pricey for an appetizer but you get 4 nicely sized skewers, topped with a delicious peanut sauce, and crushed peanuts. Not only was the peanut sauce seasoned well, so was the chicken. The meat itself was bursting with flavor, it was seasoned very well, melted in your mouth and it had a nice barbequed char to it. This is one of those go-to places, very fast and enjoyable experience, in and out, food comes out really fast and waitresses are very attentive.

Rasa is where I go when I want to have lunch by myself. Not that it's a dine alone spot. Plenty of groups and couples. But it has a quiet energy that's also perfect if you just want to shut out the world and meditate on a bowl of mee goreng. Cooked to perfection. Great service. I'm so addicted to this one dish I haven't tried anything else yet.

Delicious!! Came here for dinner recently and the food was phenomenal! Service was very prompt and helpful as well! Good portions, good prices. It was a nice spot close to Washington Square Park. At this time it also had a decent amount of outdoor seating. I had the Thai Basil Green Curry which came with plentiful vegetables and well seasoned. My husband had the Pad Thai which he also enjoyed but was hoping it could've been a tad more sauce. Our friends also really enjoyed their meal too. The best part was our decision to get the Sake Kurosawa Junmai Kimoto which was delicious and smooth. We got several rounds out of this and had a nice buzz :) In all it was a memorable dinner with good food. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Legit one of my fave Malaysian places ever! I came here for the first time to celebrate an early Valentine's Day a few years ago (reservations DEF needed during evenings/weekends/special occasions) and remember being totally intoxicated by the smell of the food while we were sitting at the bar. Once we got our table, we ordered a few different things including roti canai and their appetizer sampler to start. For mains we got the hainanese chicken, char Keuh teow, and curry laksa, everything we had was literally mind blowingly incredible!! The star of the show was definitely the chicken rice, so so flavourful and so perfectly cooked! I've been back for takeout a number of times since COVID started and the food is just as fabulous when taken out as well! Huge plus for super friendly staff and clean bathrooms!!
