Red Apron Review - Capitol Hill - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Red Apron, located inside The Roost, feels like it’s cosplaying as McDonald’s—except we’re not loving it. The Capitol Hill restaurant is one of 10 spots at the food hall, which includes places like Hi/Fi and Slice Joint. The Roost is always busy, but we’re not sure why. It can’t be the food—the burger joint’s signature Red Apron original (a double patty sandwich that looks like a Big Mac and even comes with pickles, shredded lettuce, and a special sauce) tastes more like a Bubba burger straight out of the freezer. If you’re looking for a great burger, is right across the street." - Tristiaña Hinton

Shelter Beer Garden Opening at the Roost with Low-ABV Beers and New Hi/Fi Taco - Eater DC

"Anda will open a new Red Apron outpost at the Roost on Saturday, September 26. That will bring on options to two types poutine served on a base of beef fat fries: a crispy pork belly and broccoli rabe option with smoked pecorino fonduta and cherry pepper relish, and a dan dan option with Sichuan beef gravy, salty peanuts, fried garlic, and scallions." - Gabe Hiatt

I don't know what people are complaining about. This place is great. Their beer selection is outstanding! The burgers are very well-executed. They use thinner patties, which allows the burger to be cooked to perfection in a way that you won't get with thicker patties. You get a nice, crisp sear on the outside and a rare on the inside that is somehow hot and not cooked. The buns and toppings are on point and I have to say that their beef fat fries surprised me as I was not expecting them to be anything special.

The chicken and donuts place closed. Thankfully, it's been replaced with awesome burgers! They are small, but juicy and delicious. I recommend a double. The beef is outstanding quality. The fries are fried in beef fat, and have some herbs and garlic. Tasty and crisp. The beer list is long and lovely. Soft serve to finish rounds things out very nicely.

The good: Fries are amazing, happy hour is a good deal, great beer selection and service is quick and friendly. The bad: the burgers are mediocre. For a place with craft ingredients (and price to match) the burger was really underwhelming - and way overcooked. If you're going to be a burger bar, get your main product right. Every time. I like to support local, but shake shack burgers is better and more consistent. I miss when this used to be the fried chicken and donuts place.

I used to go here for happy hour with friends. They have fun happy hour cocktails and their donuts are delicious. The main courses however are at a decline. The fried chicken wings are not fresh and extremely salty. Also their employees are not hygienic. They don't use gloves or hair nets when prepping and I spotted one scratching her Dred locks and putting her hands in food. Overall not worth it.

I have been there a couple of times. The donuts are fantastic, but may take some time to make. I took some to go but they greased the bag and it ripped before I got them home. The chicken biscuits are fantastic. The chicken sandwhich is good as well. The service has always been good. Their menu is not real extensive but has some good options depending on the time of day.

This restaurant is not only perfect for breakfast and lunch, it's also perfect for happy hour. The gourmet donuts are addicting and always an office favorite when we bring in a half dozen. The happy hour prices are really great for the quality of beer - don't forget the punch! All around great experiences at GBD.

I've been here a few times and the food is typically pretty good, but I've had at least one meal where I was less than satisfied. The service is pretty bad, even if you sit at the bar. The staff is hardly in a hurry to refill your drink and I've typically felt rushed. My last visit after a few "bottomless" mimosas the bartender told me they were out and offered no replacement. I wouldn't say it's all together awful the food can be good, but it is not the best brunch you can find. The service has much room for improvement.

I was expecting better. The server was good and very helpful. My chicken tenders were a little burnt. Happy Hour fooled me. I was expecting bigger pieces of chicken. The happy hour special that I ordered was the two pieces of chicken with a biscuit. The biscuit was not creamed top and soft like I was expecting. I have had better fried chicken before. I would have rather went to Popeye's or KFC.
