The 20 Best BBQ Spots In Texas - The Infatuation

"You’ll probably spend the 60-minute drive from the nearest town with an HEB wondering if this whole trip is really worth the gas, time, and barrage of bizarre billboards featuring a man’s heavily-cropped face and the words “you know what I do.” But the pilgrimage has a purpose, and that purpose is burnt ends. These soft, savory nuggets have a thick, chewy bark that adds just the right amount of bite to the meat underneath. Pair them with sides like green chile cream corn and bacon green beans, and you’ve got a perfect blend of Central and West Texas worlds. Rejino is Olton’s main attraction—a one-stoplight town where the locals might glance up from their brisket just long enough to wonder if you made a wrong turn on the way to Lubbock." - nicolai mccrary, kevin gray, nick rallo

Rejino Barbecue - Review - Olton - Lubbock - The Infatuation

"You’ll probably spend the 60-minute drive from Lubbock to Olton wondering if this whole trip is really worth the gas, time, and barrage of bizarre billboards featuring a man’s face and the words “you know what I do.” But the pilgrimage has a purpose—and that purpose is burnt ends. These soft, savory nuggets are coated in a thick bark that adds just the right amount of bite to the tender meat beneath. Pair them with sides like green chile cream corn, bacon green beans, and banana pudding, and you’ve got one of the best barbecue meals in West Texas. Ok folks here we go! Not all BBQ is equal, just had Friday night supper at Rejinos. Has to be some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time. My wife had the mesquite smoked prime rib with green chilli cream corn and potato casserole. Of course, I had to have a bite. My taste buds went crazy, delicious. I ordered up a green chili cheese brisket burger with their sauce on it. Mac and cheese, heavy on the cheese just the way I like it . Never had a burger like this before, would I order it again? Heck yes. You probably noticed in the pic there was a cherry cobbler. Only way that could get any better is if it came with a cup of Lavazza Italian coffee. So what did I do? Bringing one home and going to fire up my Flavia coffee maker and brew up a Lavazza coffee. If you make the trip to Rejinos, come hungry this place will fill your belly up pass the full level.

This place is phenomenal. I went here on Saturday and it was a hopping joint, but for good reason! Some of the best BBQ I’ve had in west Texas. It is definitely worth the drive from Lubbock to get. I’m not sure how long they’ll do it, but on Saturdays they do a brisket stuffed jalapeño poppers, they’re so good. 10/10 place.

Rejino Barbeque, located in Olton, TX delivers above and beyond the hype. Rejino is a quick 45 minute drive from Lubbock, TX. The location is small but welcoming, just as you would expect for rural West Texas. Everyone I spoke with greeted me with a smile. Employees were happy to explain their menu and even guide me to some favorites. Growing up in South Central Texas, I like to think I'm familiar with great BBQ and Rejino is on par with some of the very best places I have visited across the state and throughout the country. I recommend the 3 meat plate to sample some of the best offerings and have plenty to share with one or two others as it also includes two sides. It's worth the trip but bring your appetite and come early. I'll be back for sure.

Went on a Saturday at 11:30am and a Wednesday at 1pm, line wasn’t long and it moved quickly. We had the brisket sandwich, ribs, regular sausage, italian pasta salad, potato salad, bacon mac n cheese, and pecan cream pie. They also have a small market with fruits, veggies, etc. Prices were standard for a bbq joint, staff was attentive and helpful.

If you’re in Lubbock this place is a 45 minute drive. It’s a great date spot or a great excuse for a day trip. There’s a great patio area and the bbq is amazing! Rejoin just added desserts to their menu and the snickers pie was to die for. There’s a general store located inside restaurant so you can pick all the premade food including salads, wraps, premade dinner trays too. Cute Town and walkable.

Heaven in your mouth! Peach and whiskey pork belly burnt ends were amazing! Great brisket, green chili creamed corn, and Texas Twinkies! Attentive and friendly service made us feel right at home!

Google
Had an Amazing stop on our top 50 bbq tour here. The food was great. The staff and owner are great. Even being from Dallas this place felt like home. It’s worth the drive. Hey there early. It’s worth it!

We first heard about Rejino's on Texas Country Reporter. Its background and food sounded interesting. So, a short 60 mile drive from Lubbock and we arrived just before the lunch rush. The interior was clean and inviting. As is typical for these type of restaurants, you order at a counter from a posted menu. The food is prepared and your name is called when it is ready. The interior looks like it seats about 30 or so. There is another enclosed area that holds six picnic tables. Now, to the food, it is fantastic. The meal is served on paper covered trays. The contents are spaced well so you can see what each item is. The food is fantastic. My wife ordered a salad with Burnt Ends. The salad was well put together and the amount of meat was beyond belief. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. I chose a two meat meal with sliced Brisket and Pulled Pork. The Brisket was two thick pieces, a layer of fat along one edge and a nice smoke line on the edges. It was tender and flavorful. The pile of Pulled Pork was just the right amount, tender and full of flavor. The sides, Macaroni Salad and Beans were both well prepared and enjoyable. All the employees we came in contact with were extremely friendly and helpful. This is a location we will be back to.

Yelp
This may be one of the greatest jewel finds I've ever had. In a small town between Amarillo and Lubbock. I always find it interesting in these really small Texas towns to have a 5 Lane Main St. Did they used to have cattle drives down these roads or something? Actually, I had to go out of my way probably 45 minutes but oh my what a find. Especially for the value. Check that, regardless of value or not. This was supposed to be a quick light tasting as I had already had a big lunch and was headed towards a big supper. But when I tasted the food, I had to eat every bite. So good. They've been listed on Texas monthly top 50 and we're started as a food truck my owners, Aaron and Christina. Unfortunately, I found out. Christina passed away at the beginning of this year. I spoke with the niece who has the new general manager. In order to try three meats, I got the Texas Trinity platter. Brisket was exactly what you would hope for. The perfect bar, the perfect moist, just the right saltines and pepper. Melts in your mouth.9.5 Pork ribs 8.9 were way better than you find at most places. I love all the things they put in the bark. Maybe could've been a tad more tender, but I arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon. Homemade sausage 9.7 was the bomb. I opted for the regular instead of jalapeño cheese. It's a mix of brisket and pork. Even though they sliced it, you could tell the snap was fantastic. One of the best sausages I've ever had and even better with a little bit of their house sauce 9. A word on the value. My platter was $25 and I got as much or more as compared with some of the top end places. It included two sides, a drink and bread. Green chili cream corn 9 was fantastic. Just right with the touch of sweetness. I opted not to upgrade it to Mexican street corn which he said they just add cheese and jalapeño. The baked potato salad 7.7 was what you would expect. Pieces of bacon and cheese mixed in and warm. Super. Only wish I could've tried the burnt ends. They also have a small market attached to the place where you can buy pre-prepared foods, drinks, and other small grocery items. I love it. Overall, I love the location, I love the feel, the people were super nice, the value was unmatched. I will send as many people here as I can, and hope to come back.

Yelp
The best BBQ in Texas. Service is excellent, staff is superb. We drove to Olton from Lubbock to see what the fuss was all about and I'm glad we did! It's a great place with tables inside and outside, just a typical BBQ place with the best food. I'll be back for sure!!

Yelp
At Rejino's Barbeque you will find a fantastic selection of Traditional Texas Barbeque. Brisket, burnt ends, pork spare ribs, craft sausages, bone in half chickens, jalapeño poppers and many other protein options that vary daily like chicken fried steak. I sampled everything they had. Everything was great...down to the sides! I loved the potato cheese bomb casserole and the pinto beans.  Aaron gave me a tour of his operation where he uses multiple 1000 gallon tank smokers to produce all his artisan barbeque. He also included some insider cool stuff like his butcher room where the trim meat and make sausage. Brisket: tender and juicy with a light oak flavor and salt/pepper perfectly balanced. Pork Ribs: spare cut cooked with great seasoning and gentle bite with just enough texture to chew but not mushy... very well executed Sausage: very well seasoned, smoked and perfectly emulsified craft sausages one of the top 3 I have eaten.  Jalapeño Poppers: one of Rejino's trademark items and they did not disappoint.  I will be heading back down there soon!

Jared F.

Yelp
The bbq was damn fine. The panhandle is a bit of a bbq desert. Rejino was luxurious oasis in this desert! The sliced brisket was moist and tender. The jalapeno cheddar sausage had the perfect bark and grind. For sides I had the jalapeno cream corn and tomato cucumber salad. Great additions. When traveling down I-27, make the pilgrimage!

Yelp
Amazing food!!!!! Make the drive from the LBK, totally worth it! They also have a little store attached with take away food and the banana pudding is the BOMB!

Yelp
This is an awesome place to eat that's off the beaten path. Where that path is - you need to take it! Great food, great place to eat, great staff. What else is there? Came at 11:55am on a beautiful weekend and the seating was packed. They ran thru people quick! When I strolled up, only one couple ahead of me in line. Score! I had the 4 meat sampler. Ribs were very good, nothing too fancy. The brisket was just killer!! Didn't need sauce, but I would have bought a bottle of the stuff. The pulled pork was some of the best in Texas. Finally, the cheddar jack, jalalpeno sausage was spot on. Also tried the Texas Twinkie. Basically a jalapeno popper with brisket. Quite tasty. For sides, had the creamed corn. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) it was over full and practically exploded when opened. It was very fresh though and tasty. Potato salad was "ordinary". I almost laughed. Everything was so spectacular that good old, solid potato salad was a disappointment?! I guess they rapidly spoiled me.

Yelp
Worth the drive if you're wanting great bbq. I had the Texas trinity platter. The brisket, jalapeño sausage and ribs were delicious! Definitely get the green chile cream corn.

Yelp
Driving through Texas doing the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ spots so had to get some eats from Rejino Barbeque in Olton Texas. What I did was went online the night before and placed my order to pickup, that way I knew I would get the food I wanted. As the motto here is open to sell out so when it's gone it's gone.... We got a 4 meat sampler for $35.00 ( which includes 2 sides) + $1.00 extra for the brisket burnt ends... YES we got brisket, brisket burnt ends, jalapeño cheddar jack sausage, and pork ribs with potato salad and pinto beans. Let me just say that for the price the Servings were nice and generous. Also this food was delicious as we got it to go and drive from Olton TX through New Mexico to El Paso Tx where we found a microwave at the hotel and heated it up and all!!! The food including the sides were delicious. The people here are ALL so nice that when we asked to meet the Pit master and they found out we were doing the Texas Monthly Top 50 stamp book the Pit master took time to talk to us about BBQ, his wood burning style and gave us a tour of the pits!! Thank you, I highly recommend you make your way to Olton Texas and get some delicious BBQ here. So the process here is walk up place your order, pay and wait for them to call your name for your delicious food

Yelp
Never heard of this restaurant until they got featured in a Texas online magazine. So we went there and found these long line of people, found out they just opened or moved to that place. We had the ribs and pork belly burnt ends for meat, and green chili cream corn which is actually real good. The only thing is that the meat was kind of dry, but it could just be something they overlooked given it was the first week in that new location. We'll try it again soon.

Kregg F.

Yelp
Outstanding service, bbq, and sides. Our family tried the brisket, ribs, turkey, and sausage. All were excellent--well-smoked, good bark, tender, but not falling apart. For our sides, we had the beans, corn, baked potato, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese. All of us loved the beans, the corn, and the baked potato. We found the potato salad good, not great. None of us cared for the macaroni and cheese, which had a good flavor but was unbalanced--much more sauce than pasta. Still, a great experience, great food, great people. Well worth the drive 45-50 minute drive from south Lubbock. We will be back to Rejino's.

P B.

Yelp
Food was good the restaurant was clean the service was good. Everyone was very nice. The only problem was that the flies were very tough. We even changed tables but to no avail.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
The only bad thing I have to say about this place is that I hate how far away from me it is. The brisket is smoked perfectly, the ribs are flavorful and tender! Sides and desserts are on point! The staff is always friendly and doesn't judge the amount of food I order. But I buy enough to last for several meals and bring it home!!

Yelp
Made a special trip to Olton on our way to Palo Duro to stop and try the newest addition to the Texas Monthly Top 50. I've eaten at nearly 15 locations on the list and I have to say Rejino definitely deserves a place on this list! I just want to say I give instant credit to anyone serving such high quality que out of a food truck! Anyone that smokes meat knows it's hard to do and stay consistent. I also want to give a quick nod to the amazing customer service. Talked with a lot of the crew at Rejino and they are all amazing people. I wish them nothing but massive success. Now for the food. The brisket had a very good bark and a super decent smoke ring. My only note on the brisket is I didn't get a lot of the smoke flavor in the actual meat. Eating the meat with the bark helped some but on its own it leaned more towards pot roast. But it was super hot moist and juicy. Enough for another attempt for me some day! I think the pulled pork was pretty out of sight. I definitely tasted smoke on the pork and it was moist but not sopping wet (which I hate). Great job on that. My ribs were phenomenal. I keep saying it over and over, I think Texas does ribs better brisket. Over and over I keep noticing how much better the ribs are in all the bbq joints lately and I'm not even a rib guy, maybe I am now ‍. Saved the best for last. The Jalapeño. Cheddar. Sausage. Might be the best sausage I ever had. The boys were telling me their story of how they tested their from scratch recipe repeatedly ! So much smoke. So much cheese. Great texture to the sausage. I absolutely loved it. Please visit these guys if you are from out of town! They are really on to something here.

Yelp
This is a fabulous BBQ place. I got the peachy pig sandwich and fries to go and both were great. Tons of meat in the sandwich. The sauce for the sandwich was great. It came on Texas toast with pepper jack cheese. Fast service too! Will definitely be back!

Jessica Jones M.

Yelp
There's a reason why this place is listed in the Texas Monthly! Everything here is perfect! The meat is always so tender and the sides are better than grandmas!

Aimee P.

Yelp
BBQ with full smoked flavor done on site. Menu with all the favorite meats, sides, homemade desserts and more. Clean inside outside atmosphere with great service. Worth the drive, don't miss this place.

Yelp
Awesome BBQ, great service!!! We ordered online so we didn't have to wait, but the line was not long for the "waiters".

Yelp
This place is in a gem in the city of Olten! It was totally worth the drive from Lubbock. The brisket was tender, with great seasoning and smoke flavor. The jalapeño cheddar sausage, and poppers were fantastic. My sister had the grilled cheese. The space was great and there was even worth it. It's was also I. Texas Monthly!

Timothy E.

Yelp
Been supporting these guys from the beginning. The staff are always welcoming & friendly, & the food always exceeds expectations.

Diane Y.

Yelp
The brisket, ribs and sausage are all good as expected. The brisket burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. Although Rejino's is in a small building, the space is maximized and clean.

Doug S.

Yelp
This is the best BBQ in TX. It was well worth the 6 hour drive from Dallas. If you're ever in the mood for amazing BBQ take a drive to Olton TX. The team is so attentive and goes over the top to make the experience amazing.

Robert H.

Yelp
Food great. Had peachy pig. Awesome. Fast service. Great atmosphere. Clean The Peachy Pig Sandwich

Yelp
Awesome wait staff great atmosphere food was great. They have made this food truck to to a booming business.

Yelp
Excellent bbq. I had the trinity plate (brisket, ribs, and jalapeno sausage). All the meats were great and the sides were good too. Plan to arrive early, the line gets long at lunchtime.

M G.

Yelp
saw this on you tube and drove from lubbock 45 min away. worth the hype? absolutely. got a brisket sliced plate with potato salad and potato casserole as sides. 10 out of 10 highly recommend. my husband gave it a 9.5 as he wished he'd gotten a different meat then thr jalapeño sausage. he said the brisket was a 10. daughter got a pulled pork sandwich and potato casserole side and also gave them a 10. atmosphere is simple. tasteful. hip and charming. they had 6 6persom tables and a few small tables inside, several tables on a covered patio outside with heaters. directions on apple were wrong. it said permanently closed for the brick and morter location and it took us to their food truck instead. we assumed it was a mix up so just drove to the permanently closed lolocation glad we did. best BBQ we've ever had. owners did a walk thru thanking everyone for coming. so cute.

Chris W.

Yelp
Solid brisket. Texas Twinkie was awesome so we're the ribs. Cream corn was great. Potato salad and Turkey were fine. Fun place

Carol S.

Yelp
Worth the trip!!! Food was amazing and every piece of meat was tender and moist - we tried the ribs, burnt ends and both the regular and jalapeño sausages. Their sausage is made in house and worth EVERY bite! Their Philly Cheese with brisket and buttered bread melts in your mouth. Make the trip. It's worth it.

Mike A.

Yelp
Drove 5 hours from DFW on 11/5/22 to get my Top 50 BBQ stamp and sample what I hoped would be some good food. We checked the website before we left - sure enough, they show open at 11am today. 11am comes around and no one here. Turns out they are closed today and they are in Lockhart. I guess I'll have to do this long drive another day in the future. Makes me angry their website wasn't updated and wasted all my time and over $100 in gas. Others were pulling up as we left. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Hands down the best barbecue I've ever had! Cheddar sausage is great, chicken is great, brisket is great, ribs are great. My favorite is the brisket quesadilla with ranch-- they don't always have it but when they do, get it! Brisket quesadilla is on the top 10 foods I've ever had in my life. We recently moved away, and we crave Rejino BBQ!

Justin M.

Yelp
I'm a self proclaimed BBQ connoisseur, all that means is I've eaten at almost all of the Top BBQ restaurant in Texas Monthly. With that being said, I will be nit picking a bit and that is what I have to do with Rejino BBQ because I could not find hardly anything to my liking. Tried the chopped brisket, sliced brisket, turkey, pork belly burnt ends, house sausage, jalapeños cheese sausage, and ribs. All were cooked to perfection. A true pit master. Most meats is what you would expect from a great Texas BBQ, but the stars of the show was the burnt ends and jalapeño cheese sausage. Burnt ends were a whiskey peach glazed pork belly which is basically taking burnt end, bacon, whiskey, and peach and combining it into one glorious piece of meat. The Jalapeño Cheese Sausage had large chunks of gooey cheese that were not lost in the flavor of the sausage at all. The BBQ sauce was a bit sweet to me, but I only tried it at end because I didn't need it on any meat. Sides were all good typical BBQ sides, nothing really to complain about sides done right. Honestly if this restaurant was in Austin, the line would be three blocks long instead of just one block in Olton and they could charge twice as much. They should be in the top ten of any BBQ list of Texas. Worth the drive to this small town. Order ahead or be there at opening and try as much as possible.
