"Everything is modern and sleek — from the decor to the plating of the food —at this BYOB option in Hochelaga Maisonneuve, where the menu is traditional French speckled with Quebecois flair (think a poutine with pulled pork and mustard cream). The floor-to-ceiling windows keep it bright, while the fireplace adds some warmth and ambience." - Erinn Blicher

"L’État Major undoubtedly favours classic French styles and flavours (lobster bisque, the Alpine casserole tartiflette, foie gras), but isn’t afraid to take a risk or two. Take, for example, its interpretation of poutine, made with pulled pork, mustard cream, and pommes dauphines (potato puffs). Open for close to a decade, it’s a quintessential Hochelaga BYOB." - Valerie Silva, Eater Staff

"Foie gras, salmon tartare, magret de canard, mackerel confit — it’s all French fare, but with Quebec ingredients, at this staple Hochelaga-Maisonneuve BYOB." - Daniel Bromberg, Valerie Silva

"BYOW impresario Dominic Laflamme (Le Quartier Général) is the co-owner of this busy Hochelaga bistro. État-Major nails the genre's must-haves: Minimalist décor, open kitchen and a simple blackboard menu that accents crowd-pleaser proteins — like scallops, oysters, Gaspor pork, cerf de Boileau, lamb, and Stanstead rabbit." - Holly Tousignant, Eater Staff

A BYOW in HoMa, this eatery was casual, noisy and simple, reflected in the unpretentious tables and chairs. It felt more like a neighbourhood diner than a fine-dining establishment. The appetizers, the boudin noire and the foie gras were excellent. Then, we experienced a significant delay, waiting over an hour for our main courses. My wife chose the tuna steak, while I opted for the lapin farci. The food was good, but it didn't have much character, lacking the depth and complexity of flavors we were hoping for. The waitress informed us that desserts would be complimentary to compensate for the delay. However, I later noticed that only one dessert was deducted from the bill.

One of the best meals I've had in a restaurant. The steak was perfectly cooked to my liking and the sauce and mushrooms accompanying it were exquisite. I will definitely come back with friends.

Casual BYOB French style restaurant. The menu changed from time to time but we can always find a dish we liked. For appetizers, the focaccia with goat cheese was delicious, boudin noir was smooth and flavourful! We had Arctic Char and steak as our main course, both were perfectly cooked and delicious! The crème brûlée and Pavlova were also amazing! Servers are friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back soon!

An altogether beautiful meal with friends. We all chose different mains: chicken, trout, cod and venison all unique flavour combinations worked deliciously. Fabulous food. Service was friendly but uneven. Room for improvement. But definitely worth the trip to Hochelaga!

The food is beautiful to the eyes and even more delicious in the mouth. And the service is amazing. I'm going to go back for sure and since you bring your alcohol it's not that expensive for a meal of quality.

Bring your own wine restaurant. French style. Changes menu fully every month or so. Update after a few months, they are getting much better with the menu items. This is our favorite restaurant for this summer so far...

Delightful evening. Excellent, helpful service. Warm, comfortable atmosphere. Well presented French cuisine. I was also impressed with their timing: short waits between courses. Will definitely return and bring a group of good friends to toast with.

Exploring the city for new discovery, this place is a must go. Very impressed by the touch of plates. Every plate is special, has its own fragrance. The menu is on a board on the wall, very simple menu. They change their menus every once in a while, i must say, im tempted to go back !
