Semea by Euskalduna

"This restaurant has improved in every respect following its move to the banks of the Douro – it has gained space, consolidated its culinary philosophy, and now boasts the added benefit of views of the river. The cuisine here, which includes rice dishes cooked in a wood-fired oven, is based around the grill and open fire, using local seasonal ingredients to create dishes that, although uncomplicated, are full of flavour and feature a strong focus on presentation. The restaurant’s other attractions include the delightful panoramic terrace on the first floor." - Michelin Inspector

Where to Eat in Portugal | Bon Appétit

"A riverside Cais das Pedras restaurant where chef Vasco Coelho Santos focuses on grill and open-fire cooking; recommended dishes include tarte de chalota (shallots with balsamic on buttery puff pastry), arroz de costela mendinha (oven-fired rice with slow-cooked sirloin), and pescada com pil-pil e cogumelos (golden-skinned hake in a creamy garlicky sauce with mushrooms), with a must-order rabanada for dessert—crispy and cinnamony outside, custardy inside—served with goat’s-milk ice cream." - ByMiguel Andrade

Food is good, service staff is very friendly, just not to the Michelin standards yet and more areas for improvement. For example, there’s a small bug in the food on my plate, which I didn’t see it flying into my plate (which means the bug was on the veggie before I took the food to my plate), when I called the service staff, he was very apologetic, but only changed the plate (which also threw out a piece of fish which was good and expensive). When he came back with a clean plate, he said he’s sure the bug flew to my plate, and the only thing he did was just saying sorry - to be honest, if you just took out the dessert or that side dish from our bill, we would feel much better, and it’s only €7.5-8.5. Another example, we ordered too much food and asked for boxing the fish, veggie and rice, but when we went back to hotel, I checked the box and realized the fish was not boxed - we still had half of the fish untouched and again it’s the most expensive dish. I’ve been to quite a few Michelin restaurants, and think that if you really want to get a star, how to put customers first is still where you might need to work on.

Everything was on top in this restaurant. The service was excellent, the food and wines we tried was also very good. Good guidance from the staff in every step through the dinner. I would like the entrecote to be a little bit more salty, but the other flavors in every dish was amazing!

It was good overall but not sure I would count as exceptional. The first two courses of the mushroom tart and potato were both awesome where it was a great blend of tastes and textures. The main and dessert were more just ok. I think the last two almost were trying too hard and let down an otherwise great experience Not saying the meal or service was bad but maybe my expectations were set too high with first two courses.

Nice restaurant with seating on a terrace. We were there for a lunch and tried several dishes. The steak was very good, the mushrooms paella was too strong for our taste. The service is very good and the atmosphere was nice.

An incredible restaurant recommended by the Michelin Star Guide. The restaurant's unique feature was that everything was prepared using firwood, creating a distinctive and delicious flavor. The staff was not only friendly but also fluent in English, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. We ordered the chicken and fish dishes, both of which were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The accompanying French fries were delightful. For our starter, we tried the highly recommended shallot pie, which was a delightful and flavorful choice. To top it all off, the dessert—a French toast with ice cream—was simply the best. This restaurant truly exceeded expectations and provided an unforgettable dining experience.

What a great place. Lovely sitting outside on the terrace. Received delicious dishes accompanied by live music. The fish with mushrooms served as a beautiful dish. They then professionally mixed up to bring the flavours together correctly, which will stay with me for a long time. Truly delectable.

This has made it to list of one of our favorite restaurants – a must stop in Porto. They were very accommodating when we showed up to our reservation with an extra friend despite being full. The wine showcase, bar and restaurant itself was stunning, especially loved the open fire kitchen. The friendly sommelier kindly entertained all our questions about the wines (lots of low intervention options which we love) and even gave us a little tour of their selection. Every dish was beautifully presented, super delicious (who knew shallot pies could be that tasty?!) and service outstanding. We still can’t stop talking about it. 100% will be back.

TL;DR: don't go to this restaurant! My wife and I ordered 5 different small dishes, most of them were horrible. We both ended up getting food poisoning from this restaurant (it was the only thing we ate that day). We were sick for more than 24h after eating there. Don't waste your vacation. More details: The restaurant has a beautiful view, the dishes look nice, and it's apparently part of the Michelin guide, so we thought, why not try it? My wife made the reservation. As soon as we got there, I found it pretty weird that the restaurant was 70% empty (only 3 other tables with people). This is a very rare situation for Porto and Lisbon; we did not see an empty restaurant like that anywhere else during our 12 days in Portugal. Then, I decided to check the Google reviews and saw 4.1, which is a fairly low score imo. So my gut feeling immediately told me that something must be wrong with the restaurant. We then ordered 5 different dishes (see pictures). My wife and I are foodies and we typically eat everything. This time, we literally could not finish these dishes except for 1 (torta de chalotas). The other 4 had a very weird taste that we did not experience anywhere else in Portugal. We left the restaurant and started feeling sick 1hr later. We had to go back to the hotel and the rest of the story you already know: about 24h in the bathroom :/ We contacted the restaurant. All they did was to send an email to us apologizing and saying they checked the kitchen and everything looked good. Stay away from this place! Don't get persuaded by the nice looking dishes and beautiful view. This is probably the worst restaurant in Portugal.
