Best Bagels in Austin | Eater Austin

"The name says it all — these bagels are one of the stars of the Austin breakfast scene. Head to Foster Heights counter window to order up the BLT or the Lox & the Works to eat on the curb or bring home to eat in solitude. Don’t skip the rosemary and salt bagel. Takeout orders can be placed online; the bagels are available also at a variety of cafes and shops around town; and there are outdoor dine-in areas." - Darcie Duttweiler

Pizza Bagels Land at Rockstar Bagels - Eater Austin

"Rockstar Bagels combines two great foods into one nostalgic dish with pizza bagels on Rosewood Avenue in Foster Heights. On deck are bagels topped with cheese, pepperoni, assorted vegetables, and sauces. There’s even a Hawaiian version with ham and pineapple. Owner Joe Humel always wanted to experiment with pizza bagels because of how simple it was. “Get your bagel, throw homemade sauce and cheese on top, and there you have it,” he said. It was his intention to have pizza bagels since the beginning, but he needed to focus on The items have been on the menu since late January. Rockstar Bagels opened its brick and mortar on Rosewood Avenue in 2014." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
One of my fav bagel shops in Austin! So yummy with a a couple of vegan spreads, veggie patty for protein. Love the everything bagel so much. I only wish there was more shade over the picnic tables.

Google
Great bagels, made fresh! We decided to split the veggie heaven add egg white. Super delicious and light.

Google
Paid five dollars for extra salmon and this is what they gave me. The rosemary salt bagel is good and their basil peach cream cheese is good. But they definitely did not give me even the normal amount of locs, let alone five dollars extra worth. Just go to beidermans

Google
Rockstar (🪨🌟) Bagels 🥯 has the best bagels & lox sandwich! Their is also a vegatrian version of bagel & lox. The bagels are fresh and service is prompt. Highly recommend!

Google
I stopped in this past Monday morning. Ordered a veggie sandwich. The cashier was less than pleasant. The sandwich was absolutely overpriced for what I received. I’ve had this sandwich in the past and it was significantly different in quantity of veggies. The listing of ingredients is basic: avocado, cucumber, red onion, spinach, tomato. I’m guessing they were running low on these things after a busy weekend, because ingredients were severely lacking or missing. If shortage of ingredients was the case then why not say, “we don’t have the ingredients for that sandwich right now?” Also, my everything bagel was a ball. Not a bagel. Not sure that I’ll be going out of my way to revisit this place anytime soon.

Bill Sirl

Google
The best bagel you are going to find in Austin as opposed to the wonder bread donuts found most places. Wait times on the weekends can be long. Order ahead but also know online ordering can get cut off when they get busy so it does not do much good unless you really plan ahead. For the vegan folks there are a ton of great vegan bagels but the vegan cream cheese is not great. As alternatives they have jams, peanut butter and sometimes hummus I believe.

Google
Really more 4.5 Bagels are great! I'm not some bagel scholar from Brooklyn so sorry if these aren't you some New Yorker's "bagel of dreams" but I think they are damn tasty. A little heavy on the schmear (but the flavors for those are great too). But easy enough to scrape a little off. Would be great if they had an indoor area to wait and eat, but nevertheless their patio is pretty nice and chill. Have gotten the lox and different sandwiches and multiple different bagel and schmear varieties and all have been good to great. Recommend the rosemary salt bagel with the peach basil cream cheese--money! Staff are chill. They do get quite busy especially weekend mornings so wait times can be a little long but usually not too bad.

Google
Maybe I caught them on an off day, but here's the gist of it. I ordered 6 bagels and some cream cheese. It took over an hour for a bag to be handed to me. I was told 5-10 minutes over and over. I get the bag and go. Check the bag when I get to my office, it was just the cream cheese. Headed back and was told it would be another wait. They refunded easily. Good luck.

Yelp
It is like seriously dangerous living down the street from this bagel stand. EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS FRESH AND DELICIOUS! These bagels rival NYC bagels. Yep, that's right, I've said it and I speak from experience. The cream cheese and bagel flavor combos are out of this world amazing. Extremely welcoming to all. Delish delish delish.

Yelp
Hrm, offers a decent bagel experience, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again. I recently tried their "Lox and the Works" bagel, which includes smoked salmon, tomatoes, onions, and capers. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The bagel itself was fresh enough, with a nice chew, but it lacked the distinct, flavorful crust that makes a great bagel stand out. The smoked salmon was passable, though not particularly memorable--neither exceptionally fresh nor richly flavored. The toppings (tomatoes, onions, and capers) were adequate but didn't elevate the overall taste. Everything just felt... okay. Service was efficient and the staff were friendly, which is always a plus. The atmosphere of the place is relaxed and welcoming, suitable for a casual bite. In summary, Rockstar Bagel is an alright spot if you're in the neighborhood and craving a bagel, but it's not somewhere I'd make a special trip for. If you're looking for a bagel that really wows you, you might want to keep looking.

Yelp
If you are in a rush I highly recommend ordering online!! We were and didn't and it was a 20-25 minute wait for all of the breakfast sandwiches. I got the rockstar on a jalapeño cheddar bagel with bacon and added red onions. I loved how much egg they gave you. And the bagel was soft. I wish it had been a little spicier but it was good.
google avatar

Elle K.

Yelp
I've had the Johnny hash and that was pretty good, but I went again and they were out of the Johnny hash so I just got a bacon egg and cheese bagel and they gave me way too much egg. Ruined the sandwich. I've had better bagel sandwiches in Austin. Their coffee also wasn't great, I got a vanilla latte. Workers were nice! A few spots to sit at around the walk up counter but too hot to sit there in the middle of summer.

Yelp
I consider myself a bit of a bagel connoisseur and always seek out a bagel with vegan cream cheese while traveling. I must say the bagels do rock, however, the vegan chive cream cheese was not my favorite. Not bad, just not amazing. I am always grateful when there's an option and even more excited when it's not just a plain cream cheese. If I had to guess it was coconut oil based. There was a sign indicating how long the wait would be, which I appreciated as it was 30+ minutes. Nice little walk up spot, but I highly recommend ordering for pickup online.
google avatar

Minh D.

Yelp
This place is very cute and staffs are nice.. the biggest issue is the bagels arent great. Got the rockstar with sausage and tomato/spinach on an everything bagel and cheese. The filling was bland and bagel was underwhelming - soggy due to the ingredients being steamed in the packaging. I had to add sriracha on the sandwich because of how bland it was... My first bagel experience in Austin and was disappointed
google avatar

Jacob E.

Yelp
The service here is amazing. But unfortunately, this weird sign made me feel kind of uncomfortable. It made me feel like this company is saying they don't make enough money to pay their workers the city of Austin's living wage. According to MIT research the All City living wage is $20.80 an hour. I understand the statement and how impactful gratuity can be to your employees, but it is also taxed at a higher rate. When workers have substandard wages in a high amount of tips and their tips aren't taxed sometimes they end up being left with a negative amount on their tax return. I just don't think the sign aligns with all of the other community work that this brand does nor would I consider them a small business is locally owned, but not only do they operate the store they have a wholesale department as well I would implore rockstar bagels to reconsider their wages And increase them to 2080 or take down the sign.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
Incredible bagels!! Everything is made fresh and is exceptional. Good portion sizes for the price. It is very easy to order online in advance for pickup but it is also easy to order on site. The workers are so kind and helpful. I have been several times and have always had an amazing experience. They also offer a few picnic tables should you want to dine in.

Yelp
Two-for-one Tuesdays! Order a "Gold" (bagel and spread) and get a Gold fo' freeeeeeeee. They even offer the deal for online orders (code: twofor1tuesdays). Be a rockstar; eat a Rockstar.

Yelp
So good and worth the wait! We came on a Sunday morning and there was a legit wait to get bagels! It's a walk up with some outdoor seating but it seems like ordering ahead is the way to go. I ordered a bagel with their veggie cream cheese and an orange juice. My friend got their vegan chive spread. Both were so good!! I can see why people love the spot!

Byron J.

Yelp
Delicious, freshly made gluten-free bagels and excellent service from Newell and the team. They're the only place offering fresh gluten-free bagels, and they do it superbly.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow!!! I called my daughter who is a UT graduate inquiring for a bagel place. A new friend from out of town wanted a bagel and I was not sure we here to go. Asking someone was faster than looking up in Yelp specially while driving. She recommended Rockstar Bagels. We went there and the place is just like you would expect a bagel place in Austin would be, a nice old corner house in east Austin with a little patio and simple shade, murals on the walls and of course fully loaded delicious soft and toasty bagels! What a breakfast!!! Nice and very patient service. Nice and friendly customers too! We, and our of town friend, loved it!!!

Yelp
I'm from NY and wanted to find a good bagel in ATX. According to TikTok, Rockstar Bagels was a must. I've now been twice, and the second time was much better! My first time, I ordered a The Rockstar with a Rosemary Salt bagel, egg, cheese, and sausage. I was just really in the mood for something like a breakfast sandwich! However, I have never gotten a "breakfast sandwich" bagel in NY, so I found myself comparing The Rockstar to a typical lox + creme cheese NY bagel, which just was not fair. So, my second time, I ordered just a regular Rosemary Salt bagel with lox + chive creme cheese. Much better!! In terms of comparison to NY bagels, the lox + creme cheese was spot on. The bagel itself was a lot softer than what I am used to (which is not a bad thing). With NY bagels, you need to rip them with your teeth. The Rockstar bagel was a lot softer and easier to tear apart. I am knocking off a star simply because service is quite slow. It appears that they are very understaffed. We waited for almost 30 minutes even though we were 2 out of 4 people who ordered. I guess they were managing online orders? Not sure, but it was a little odd for such a simple order.
google avatar

Corinne K.

Yelp
Amazing bagels, superior cream cheese. Great vibes. I also got the homemade orange juice which was consumed before a picture could even happen! The service was really quick! It was also great that they had vegan cream cheese for our two non-dairy friends in the group. The bagel to spread ratio was perfect
google avatar

Mindy R.

Yelp
I asked my husband how I should review this place and he said "Generous with their toppings". That sounds like the perfect description seeing as I had to scrape about a cup of cream cheese off my son's bagel so he could fit it in his mouth!! This is a great little neighborhood place. Order at the takeout window and take it with you to go or sit at one of the little stools outside of its nice outside. Tons of toppings. Vegan cream cheese available. Solid bagels.
google avatar

Carly N.

Yelp
I had bagels delivered to my hotel room while on a work trip. Delicious! Arrived fluffy and perfect. Excellent everything bagels and creamy chive cream cheese.

Charles N.

Yelp
Really disappointed. Was quoted 35 mins for my food to come out but ended up being one hour. Once I got the bagels they were not toasted like I had asked for.
google avatar

Rex M.

Yelp
To say this place is a gem would be an understatement! The bagels here feel like they are plucked right out of NYC, sliced and schmeared and handed to me from another dimension!!! The window/counter service is so easy with a rather large and unmistakable menu just to your left while ordering, I've even seen toddlers do it!!! Catch a seat along the railing while waiting for your food and don't forget to try the coffee! The drip was great! Lattes, not so much. Over all this place rocks!!!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Great bagels at a very fair price. Fast friendly service. Great selection of bagels and different spreads.

Yelp
Love me some Rockstar Bagels! Today I ordered ahead of time for a breakfast event. I was having issues online, so I called and left a voicemail and promptly received a phone call to place my order. I got two bakers dozen assortment of plain, cinnamon raisin, rosemary salt and everything bagel seasoning. Cream cheese or plain, chive and bacon. I just love picking up a bag of bagels here and the aroma. Smells amazing! Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Rachelle E.

Yelp
Blessed by the bagel. Rockstar bagels was a great way to spend calories. The customer service was super nice because I was slow and the overall products were phenomenal. Special shout out to the best iced chai tea latte I've ever had. Perfectly blended.
google avatar

Yelp
The build your own bagel was really yummy, I didn't give five stars because the coffee wasn't tasty at all.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
I really like the location of this spot. It's right near by my favorite pickleball courts. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese with hot sauce on an everything bagel and enjoyed it. I recommend coming between 12 PM-1 PM to get the afternoon special where you save a $1 off the rockstar bagel and build your own. There are a couple of areas to improve. I personally didn't care for the tipping option. It was shoved into your face and clearly, the person taking your order can see what you select. This kind of ruins the experience with tipping in my opinion. I thought the bagels were kind of small, especially for the price that you pay. I would've liked to see bigger bagels. The bagels also didn't taste very fresh and didn't have that cushy taste you look for in a good bagel. Also, the hot sauce was super mild and had no spice. Overall, this spot is decent and I wouldn't mind coming back.
google avatar

Matthew P.

Yelp
Great bagels and good price. Filled me right up! Love that they have cheese flavors for the season. Got a jalapeño cheddar bagel with cranberry jalapeño cream cheese - perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Bagels are soft even when toasted!
google avatar

Bianca H.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about rockstar bagels. Every time my husband and I come to Austin, we go to rockstar bagels for breakfast.
google avatar

Leticia M.

Yelp
Great spot for a bagel sandwich! I got the veggie heaven + bacon and it was very good! There is some bar type seating outdoor but not much. Service was quick as well. Will definitely be back before I leave Austin.
google avatar

Alanarose P.

Yelp
Great food! The service was great from the staff however my only complaint is how long the service took to get our drinks. I understand waiting for food, but our drinks took about 20 minutes. Also there was some not so well behaved dogs on the property, but I don't fault Rockstar Bagels for this. That was the fault of the owners. However the food was delicious. I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Nan T.

Yelp
Stopped here a few weeks ago for a lox bagel and was not disappointed. Fantastic bagel -- they packed it full of ingredients and it was so crispy and fresh. Great price point too. Really great service and a fun, simple shop. Pro tip: the line to order (both in person and online) can get LONG -- for a reason!! They're good! So order your bagel way ahead of time, while you're still at home so that it's ready when YOU are.
google avatar

Miranda S.

Yelp
My first time in Austin and this place was amazing! It had nice little stools where you could sit for a bit to eat with plants and a cute drive thru window! I got the BLT with mayo and I also added avocado and also got an orange juice. The woman who took my order was amazing and was great with answering my questions:) if I'm back in Austin anytime I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

savannah w.

Yelp
The food was great, it's outdoors. It was very filling. Wish they still had more vegetarian protein but they still offer a veggie patty
google avatar

Nicki G.

Yelp
Rockstar bagel is up there for me. I get a bacon egg and cheese + cream cheese and it hits every time. The amount of egg on this thing is no freaking joke!!!! I can barely finish it it's so huge. One of the best bagels I can find in Austin and it's usually a pretty quick wait time on busy Saturday or Sunday mornings!

Sarah P.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, great service and fantastic bagels :)!!! From out of town and was not let down!
google avatar

Shrinath D.

Yelp
My friend from Austin will die on the hill that Bodo's Bagels in Charlottesville is the GOAT bagel spot, but still fell in love with Rockstar! I tried an everything bagel with plain cream cheese for a classic taste test. Rockstar Bagels might not be #1 but they still delivered a solid bagel. The bagel was super flavorful from the water and seasonings and came super soft and fluffy. The cream cheese was normal and complemented the bagel well. Overall it was above your average bagel shop.
google avatar

Abbe W.

Yelp
Fresh, real bagels in East Austin! Yay! Rockstar has been around a while and they still do a great job. Their bagels are expertly prepared and there's an extensive selection of flavors. Love the everything bagel with the works...
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Recently diagnosed with a severe dairy allergy that has me *very* sad about giving up my favorite foods -- Thankfully, Rockstar has delicious allergy friendly options without sacrificing flavor or texture! So glad we discovered them. Will be back again, and again, and again!

Tyler H.

Yelp
Unfortunately if you don't order online you will be waiting forever. We ordered 4 bagels in person and waited for over 35 minutes. Their customer service is terrible. Probably won't be coming back.

Mia J.

Yelp
Takes absolutely forever, we waited for 40 minutes for a hot bagel. We checked on it three times and they kept saying it's a hot sandwich so it's taking longer, but about 10 people that ordered well after us got their orders before we did. It was bacon egg and cheese, the previous bagel place (Wholy Bagel) we went to took 5 minutes and tasted far better. Bagel lacked a nice crunch that great bagels have. Really wanted to try this place out but 40 minutes for a bagel was extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Ari R.

Yelp
I enjoy a good bagel, and this place offers a good bagel. Nice and chewy on the outside, while staying soft on the inside. There are a bunch of options for people with certain dietary restrictions. I've gone for the vegan cream cheese on several occasions and have not been disappointed. I'm really happy that there are consistently good options for me. I think the sandwiches here are pretty nice. The people I usually order with don't have any dietary restrictions and they've enjoyed all their orders. I've seen complaints about the wait around this place, but we usually get delivery, and it shows up on time. The one time we went to pick up our food, the wait was maybe 20 minutes? There was definitely a line to deal with, but it wasn't terrible. Would go back for pick up.
google avatar

Jr R.

Yelp
Best bagels in Austin! They have really good sandwiches, and I highly recommend their peach basil cream cheese and vegan chive cream cheese. Really good coffee too. I only wish they're were open later than 2pm.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
I like a lot of things about this place - location is nice and chill though there's no indoor seating, you can stand around and eat a bagel real quick. Employees seemed to be pretty happy so I can appreciate that aspect as well. However, the bagels themselves were just okay. Maybe I got used to saltier bagels in NYC, but the bagels themselves were missing something big. The jalapeno cheddar I got just seemed like a plain bagel. They seemed to be out of a lot of ingredients and certain bagels. Wish I had the option to put cream cheese on my bagels instead of the normal cheeses (I didn't ask, but the employee only listed 3 options). Rockstar bagel was a basic favorite - bacon, egg, and cheese. Nothing was inspirational or even that good about this take on a bacon egg n cheese. Turkey Club was good. The bacon on both of my sandwiches was cooked nicely - it has this weird baked bacon texture to it, but it's good. I didn't think I'd like this one as much as I did. Another big thing here is that you aren't getting "beefy" big sandwiches here as you'd get in NYC. Just an expectation given the price and NYC inspirations, I guess.

Yelp
Bagels are on point. Cream cheese selections rule. Window people cool as heck. Coffee okay! I heard they are the good kind of gentrifiers in that where they are used to be a dangerous corner but they secretly help the people that used to be in abusive situations? Yelp
I'm daydreaming about this place this AM the concept is pretty unfooled around with - legit bagels with butter, cream cheese or stuffed to the gills like mine (Indie Fit). Half of it was a meal in itself and it was a delightful mess to eat. Some advice: this is a small operation with limited outdoor seating/parking (waiting area only). There aren't any tables and wait times can be a little steep. We didn't realize this or that you walk up and place an order or can order online. Order online on the way over. Also don't sleep on the cold brew it was pretty good and packs a punch!

David B.

Yelp
The repudiation of Rockstar lured me to Lyft it there, and result was beyond expectations
google avatar

Cherry Y.

Yelp
Great bagels for a cheap price. I love purchasing their bagels by the bulk, especially the yesterday's bagels! I only have experience purchasing their old bagels, so I can't speak for much, but even those were great! I even ate one without toasting it :)

Beth K.

Yelp
I love Rockstar bagels. Great bagels and spreads. The veggie sausage is also delicious - well seasoned and a nice texture. I am often disappointed by the seasoning on the actual vegetables, however. I wish they would add salt/pepper/a little vinegar to the cucumbers, tomatoes, and spinach, and seasoning for the avocado. It's so distracting for me to bite into a bagel sandwich and just taste like, vegetable, when I'm expecting seasoned vegetables. The iced chai with light sugar was also extremely sweet.
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
Solid bagels at a solid price. The online system of picking up food is easy and even thought we came at 1:07 pm and they closed at 1 pm, they still gave us our food for pick up. I thought the everything bagel was a bit salty but the cream cheese was really good with the overall breakfast sandwich.
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
Finally got to party like a rockstar this morning after wanting to try Rock Star bagels for several months! I got the rockstar with eggs, bacon and cheese on a buttered bagel and a coldbrew. The eggs were fluffy and flavorful and the bagel was perfectly buttered. My cold brew has just the right amount of tasty and strong.

Iban G.

Yelp
The bagels here are great! They are jam packed with flavor and the gluten-free option did not disappoint. The employees were also very kind.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS!!!!!! You can't go wrong with a Lox bagel. 10/10 But let me tell you: KIMCHI CREAM CHEESE IS THE BOMB! I love kimchi but I was a tad skeptical before trying it cause the thought of kimchi and dairy seemed like a weird mix. I was so wrong. IT WAS DELICIOUS! I ordered a single bagel serving of the delicious spread and it was generous amount! SO YUMMY! 10/10
