Fruit farm with pick-your-own berries & apples, plus winery & bakery with fruit-inspired goods.
"Old-fashioned doughnuts often include sour cream or buttermilk in the recipe. Since her husband doesn’t eat dairy, Leah Klein of City Living Boston suggests a dairy-free version from Russell Orchards in Ipswich, Massachusetts, close to Crane Beach and the Crane Estate for views of the ocean and color-changing trees." - Adam H. Callaghan
"Another from Ipswich, Russell Orchards has been around for nearly a century, so the team knows a thing or two about apples (not to mention pears, apricots, and even uncommon fruits like jostaberries, all of which the team makes into wine). Fans of the orchard’s cider doughnuts are radical in their devotion — ask one, and they’ll assert that no other cider doughnut exists anywhere in the world. Fair warning to the sweet-toothed out there: Russell doesn’t roll the doughnuts in sugar." - Terrence Doyle, Adam H. Callaghan
"Apples are the main pick-your-own attraction throughout the fall — watch for updates on varieties on the Russell Orchards website — but blueberries, strawberries, cherries, and more are available earlier in the year, typically parts of June through August, depending on the crop. Open Tuesday through Sunday. Russell Orchards also offers a farm store, a barnyard (feeding animals and sections of the barnyard are currently off-limits due to COVID restrictions) and a winery (tastings are not currently occurring)." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
