It was a cold night and perfect time for hotpot. Shabu zone is our go to place. There is usually a short wait during cold nights as a lot of people have the same idea.
Once seated, you have a choice of soup. If you are not familiar with Hotpot, you grab raw ingredients from the bar located in the middle of the restaurant (vegetables, seafood, noodles) and you dunk the raw food into the hotpot. What soup you choose is a matter of preference, for me, I always go for the Tonkatsu (#4) which is pork broth and is very tasty.
We went to the buffet bar and grab our first plate consisting of vegetables ( spinach, watercress, mushrooms, fish ball, tofu skin, meat ball, corn and others). We also grab a second plate consisting of seafood from the bar as well... shrimp, scallop, mussels, clams, squid, fish and oysters. Once the soup starts to boil, we start putting seafood first then vegetables although don't think there is any real order so you can do whatever you like. They also have some sauces you can combine. I usually get the flaming ponzu that's also mixed with a number of ingredients... in addition, i add more garlic and spring onions. Yum! You use dunk the cooked meat, vegetable or seafood and enjoy.
Oh yeah, don't want to forget them best part. They have 11 different meats and meat cuts to choose from. Place the order with your server and they will bring it to the table. Best cuts, IMO, are 1, 2, 3, 5 and 11. Go ahead and experiment and enjoy! Whenever meat is running low, you can order a new set of meats.
There is ice cream and fruits on the side. Flavors include red bean, green team, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and sometimes, mango.
Restaurant is nice and bright. You can ask for refills, napkins or more soup or meat from any server. Think they pool the tips.
