The Best Restaurants in Brighton and Hove - London - The Infatuation

"There’s one word that comes to mind when we think of Kindling, and that is ‘delightful’. It’s a light and airy modern European small plates restaurant near the seafront run by an ex-St. John chef, and as you might predict with this kind of heritage, it’s all about quality produce. The menu changes daily, but you can expect dishes like smoked tomato salad, exceptional seafood, and tarted-up vegetables complete with crispy chickpeas. Come evening, you can only order the £80 tasting menu, but if you’re looking to kick it à la carte, Kindling is prime territory for a fancy lunch. It’s also excellent for a foliage-filled date involving sweet nothings over their signature homemade ketchup. See, delightful. " - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Kindling - Review - Brighton - London - The Infatuation

"There’s one word that comes to mind when we think of Kindling, and that is ‘delightful’. This place is an excellent shout if you’re looking for somewhere to have a fancy lunch, a foliage-filled Brighton date, or to eat a Saddlescombe mutton burger that will have you cursing every sad Big Mac you’ve allowed to touch your brioche-loving lips. It's a light and airy modern European small plates restaurant near the seafront run by an ex-St. John chef, and as you might expect with this kind of heritage, it's all about quality produce. Though the menu changes regularly, you can expect dishes like smoked tomato salad, exceptional seafood, and tarted-up vegetables complete with crispy chickpeas. See, delightful. kindling – Brighton and Hove - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"The strapline of this understated modern restaurant is ‘food that is kind to the environment and good for the soul’, and their focus is firmly on using local suppliers and minimising waste. A lovely freshness runs throughout the assured, detailed dishes, which arrive with eye-catching presentation. The charcoal grill is at the heart of things and used to great effect across both the lunchtime small plates and evening tasting menus." - Michelin Inspector

We walked-in and got a table, which was nice as the restaurant was already packed. They serve what seems a good Sunday Roast but we wanted to tried their steaks. Their Ribeye was ok, nothing impressive so it is ok to use a sauce with it, it will actually make the meal nicer. The croquettes were really nice and so the spinach. Service was nice and attentive.

My husband and I had our first visit here last night for our anniversary. We both agreed that it was the highlight of our mini holiday in Brighton! Every member of staff is beyond welcoming, polite, and attentive. The food itself is like nothing else — absolutely delectable. We ordered the mid-week sharing platter and we could not believe how incredible everything it came with was. Each of the sauces we got (chimichurri, four peppercorn, and mushroom) really elevated our already incredible steaks (and lamb). The value of the sharing platter is really great as well. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting. At the end of our meal, we were given an anniversary plate with delicious chocolate truffles on it, a gesture my husband and I found very endearing. You seriously will not be disappointed. We highly recommend this place and cannot wait to return the next time we’re in Brighton! ☺️

The Sunday roast sharer was incredibly delicious. It’s hard to find somewhere that serves such tender meat and crispy and fluffy roast potatoes. We had lemon tart to finish, which we shared. It was the perfect amount of food. I would highly recommend Kindling for a Sunday roast. The service was great too.

After days of classic fish & chips, we decided to change things up and try burgers – and Kindling delivered perfectly. Even our children, usually loyal fans of the “golden M,” were impressed by their cheeseburgers and immediately asked if we could come back again. The food was fresh, well prepared, and served with a smile. Burgers & chips may sound simple, but here they are done with care and quality. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy for the whole family to enjoy a meal together. Sometimes, stepping away from tradition is the best decision – and Kindling proved it. Highly recommended for anyone in Brighton looking for something beyond the usual seaside fare.

Reservation recommended! From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and promptly served. I ordered the House Bavette with Chimichurri sauce, side salad, and skinny fries — everything arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection. The steak was tender and full of flavour, beautifully complemented by the vibrant Chimichurri. Even the salad and fries were exceptional. The table setting, complete with a candle, created a lovely atmosphere, and the staff were attentive, friendly, and professional — some of the best I’ve encountered. For food and service of this quality, the bill was a pleasant surprise. Kindling is truly a team that delivers excellence.

Absolutely lovely experience from start to finish! The food was delicious the steak was perfect and the mac and cheese was amazing. What really made the evening special was the staff so friendly, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. They went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for such a special night. I’ll definitely be back again soon! 😊

Had an amazing meal at Kindling tonight. We ordered the sharing T bone steak, mac and cheese and skinny fries for the main course. The steak was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a very long time, cooked really well and tasted amazing. The sides and sauces were great. Had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert which was literally perfect. The atmosphere was good, with it being pretty much a full house and service was friendly and quick. Booked in advance for a birthday and there was a subtle but well thought happy birthday, not anything over the top which was great

Came to Kindling last Tuesday to celebrate my partners birthday. Booked through the First Table website, and the only slot they had was 4:30pm, but they let us come in a bit earlier as we were a bit pushed for time, which was really appreciated. Lovely decor and can imagine it can get really crowded during busy times, but the atmosphere was nice and chilled while we were there. We were hoping to go for the mid-week meat platter, but it wasn't on the menu we were given, so it possibly isn't an option for the First Table promotion, so instead we went for the sharing cut of T-bone steak with a few sides to share. Honestly, the steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Also appreciate it comes to the table already sliced to save any arguments over who has had the most! Ordered 2 sauces but probably didn't need them as the sauce from the sides and flavour from the steak was plenty. Also ordered 2 starters - Courgette & Feta Fritters, which was top, and the Brisket & Jalapeño Croquette. This didn't turn up, which is unfortunate, as I was really looking forward to trying it, but by the time we finished our mains, we had had more than enough to do us so will definitely try it next time! Both agreed that even without the first table discount that this was fantastic value for money! Looking forward to our next visit!
