Naija Boy Tacos: This First-Generation Nigerian Chef Fuses West African and Mexican Cuisines at New Sacramento Restaurant | Eater SF

"A high-volume craft brewery and barbecue smokehouse where Amedu worked as a sous chef for two years; the owner describes the operation as one that doesn’t take itself too seriously and remains playful, giving chefs room to experiment, and views the current moment as a culinary renaissance in Sacramento — an environment the owner felt was perfect timing for Amedu to make his name." - Tamerra Griffin

Tour the Sacramento Area’s Best Breweries With Rob Archie of Pangaea Bier Cafe | Eater SF

"When I walked into Urban Roots Brewing on a busy Friday night, Rob Archie — who co-owns the brewery with head brewer Peter Hoey — was standing in line to order a beer like any other customer, chatting and listening attentively to neighbors, staff, and friends; that neighborly mindset is baked into how the brewery operates. Opened in 2018, the taproom is a chance for Archie and Hoey to explore a broad range of beer styles and to make something for everyone, and several offerings nod directly to Archie’s personal history: Taste of Home is a barrel-aged peach sour made with Wild Beer that references mornings in Reedley surrounded by ripe peaches, and the black lager Nothing Is Certain is a lighter, dark beer with chocolate notes that Archie likens to an Americano and that also references Moonlight Brewing’s Death & Taxes." - Lou Bustamante

Urban Roots Brewery delivers a good dining experience that beautifully captures the essence of Southern comfort food. I recently had the pleasure of trying their ribs, greens, and mac and cheese, and I must say, each dish was delicious. The ribs are a standout feature – tender, smoky, and infused with a rich, flavorful dry rub. They practically fall off the bone and are best enjoyed with the house sauce, which adds an extra layer of depth. The collard greens were flavorful and well seasoned. They had a deliciously savory flavor that complemented the richness of the ribs. The mac and cheese was cool. I really enjoyed the cornbread too. The ambiance at Urban Roots BBQ is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who are happy to offer recommendations.

Service was quick and pleasant. I really liked the places it was spacious, breezy, easy going, not to loud, not to quiet, had plenty of seating, and friendly. We got the smoked tri tip and the pork ribs. The tri tip was really good, but the pork ribs, a bit dry and not really a typical smoked rib as it didn't have a nice pull from the bone, it was dry, and the flavor was not the best. The salad was okay, their version of Elote was decent, but definitely not great. Overall I do recommend a place to eat and hangout.

Google
The place is large, has indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly for outside seating. I ordered to-go for lunch on a Thursday. The wait was a bit longer than I expected since they had just opened for the day. The self serve sauce bar makes me uneasy, from a hygiene perspective. Anyone can contaminate the whole batch should they open the lid and talk, spit or do whatever else they want to it. I know it’s easy to do it this way, but you never know with people these days. Ordered the brisket and pulled pork sandwich, came to about $60. I would go back for the food, however it is overpriced. The beer selection looks really good. There’s also a small wine selection as well.

Urban Roots is actually a pretty great place to stop and grab some bbq. They have quite a few options for food to choose from. However, they have a slew of beer and craft beer to choose from while you’re there. They have an upbeat and clean eating environment. You can even eat outside under a canvas roof. This location is tucked away, but if you can make it, it’s worth the visit.

The Real Deal is Urban Roots Brewery & Smokehouse which delivers on outstanding BBQ flavors and fun atmosphere! Firstoff, let’s begin with the service which was good, but the wait to be able to order took a long time on a Saturday lunch. The wait after ordering took a bit as well. I would be prepared during a lunch or dinner be there for a bit. I have to say the rest is worth the wait. Second, the atmosphere and vibe are outstanding. Rustic looks and lots of seating inside and outside, seating for large groups. The decor fits the bbq world, lots of fun, and meat education. Thirdly and lastly, the Food, Yes!!! The bbq here is outstanding, full of flavor, beers are amazing, huge variety of beers and family style foods and single plates as well! I didn’t get time to rate everything so I will update this on the next go around! I will be back with an update I hope so!! Must try!!!

Google
Been a minute since I’ve been here. It exceeded my expectations. The IPAs they currently have are on point. The Cone Hops and Power Metal were sooo good!Unfortunately they didn’t have any cans of them. I think the brewer didn’t anticipate their success from my understanding. Food was on point. The fried pickles were SO good; they were crispy and the fry held up. The chipotle mayo was really good too. Brisket tacos were also bomb. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The one thing to consider is the parking restrictions; code enforcement doesn’t mess around. All in all, a great place to bring the fam and your dog.

Google
Very cool place! The covered outdoor patio has string lights and a mural, which make the atmosphere so festive! The food is delicious and was brought out extremely fast. The tri-tip was the most tender meat I've ever had. The staff were also super friendly and helpful. They even gave us samples of drinks when we were deciding what to order. Definitely hope to come back here!

Google
I came here for lunch one day while in town for business meetings. I got the 1/4 Tri-Tip meal with "Burnt end beans" and a "Winter salad" as my sides. I had asked for the meat well done and lean, I got well done but it could have been leaner. The 1/4 pound is two strips of meat and I ended up losing a solid portion to fat. Aside from that, the meat tasted fantastic. Their BBQ sauces were delicious, the soda machine had great better for you options, and the sides were fantastic. I'm very picky with beans, I usually do not like them at 90% of the places I go, but these were fantastic and they had pieces of meat in with them. I paid about $20 for lunch, which is a little on the high side, especially given the portion of meat. I did not have any of their beer as I had to drive right after and they had mostly IPAs and few if any beers that I would drink. I ate inside. The atmosphere was great and the music was fantastic. It looked like they had a private room and maybe even tours of their facility.

Yelp
Hubby took me here for date night a few weeks ago and it was such a great experience! Parking wasn't the easiest since it was a Friday night. We ended up about two blocks away but the walk wasn't too bad. As soon as you arrive, you're welcomed by a semi-covered outdoor dining area that looks beautiful at night with all the lights. Inside was busy and full of energy. You can hear the music, conversations, and the kitchen crew doing their thing. Plenty of seating indoors too. I saw the brewery side when we were walking up, but we didn't make it over there. Ordering was simple and the line moved quickly. I had the grilled shrimp skewers (6) with greens and a cucumber lemonade. The shrimp had an amazing smoked flavor, and the greens were actually really good, great texture and not too salty. Hubby ordered brisket, mahi mahi, baked beans, and greens. Hubby let me taste the mahi mahi and it had a little kick for me, but hubby loved it. Our total was about $77, which wasn't bad. The portions are on the smaller side, but the flavors made up for it. There were lots of families dining. It was friendly, upbeat, and perfect for a casual night out. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We came here for a networking event held in the brewing room with the barrels covering the wall. Super creative way to create privacy but still keep on brand with the vibes of the brewery. Parking - only street parking but it's surrounded by beautiful neighborhoods with big trees so it's not a bad walk if you have to go a few blocks. We didn't use it but I see they have a bike storage area and an outside area with seating. Service was good, they brought our drinks out fast. I can't speak to the food but from the smells around us walking in, it makes me want to come back when we're in town.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and one friend recommended coming here due to the indoor/outdoor space and of course BBQ! I'm not from the area so it looked a little tucked away and I didn't realize how large the space was until I walked in. It's an order first before grabbing your table establishment but honestly while it was packed there wasn't a large line or wait for our group. We ended up trying a mix of the pork belly burnt ends, ribs, and brisket. I am a brisket gal but the pork belly ends gave them a run for their money. I don't grab BBQ often so you know I had to pair it with the cornbread and mac n cheese. We also got sides of the collard greens and beans but they were on the saltier side for my taste buds. Worth getting to try to have a contrast to the richness of the meat. Service here is quick and within a couple mins we had our platters cut up and ready for pick up. Didn't get to try the beers this time around but this place looks like a great spot to day drink too!

Yelp
We stopped by on a whim, we wanted bbq and Urban roots didn't disappoint. The meat was perfect, the sides were on point, even the tables were like a backyard BBQ indoors. I don't know about the beer cause I don't really drink but our friends were enjoying their beer. Definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
Urban Roots absolutely nails it -- from the moment you step in, you're greeted by that warm, relaxed vibe with wood‑smoke in the air and a robust lineup of house brews on tap. Their brisket is smokey and tender, the pulled‑pork sandwich hits just right, and the pork‑belly burnt ends? Crispy‑outside, melt‑in‑your‑mouth inside -- they might just win you over.

Yelp
Great place to grab a beer and hangout! The beer was crisp and delicious! They also made their own lemonade! Highly recommend! My husband and I sat on the patio and enjoyed the fall weather. There is also food, but we did not order anything. I wish we had because everything smelled amazing! We will be back!

Yelp
Urban Roots is one of the few BBQ spots we like to visit when we're craving some good barbecue. We enjoy their outdoor seating area, as well as the plenty of indoor tables if we decide to eat inside. I ordered one of their salads -- I think it was a seasonal one with goat cheese and cranberries. For $22 without any meat, it felt a bit pricey, so I added some. It wasn't bad, but I've definitely had better versions of similar salads elsewhere. My husband ordered the brisket with mac and cheese. The brisket was tasty, but the mac and cheese was a big miss. On the bright side, their seasoned fries were really good -- super crunchy and flavorful. Overall, we were a bit disappointed with our visit this time around.

Yelp
It had been some time since I last visited and was in the area so wanted to stop by. Parking is always a bit difficult but after finding a spot we saw lots of people relaxing outside. We went inside and did not have to wait long to order a beer. We ordered a beer and sat outside. After enjoying one beer, I decided to try their smoothie. OMG it was a Coconut/Lime and the flavor was amazing. We did not order food as we had eaten prior. The food that we saw looked great.

Yelp
Went here on a whim while we were visiting Sacramento and found that everything here was amazing. The food, the drinks, the staff, the fellow patrons and the overall vibe and layout of this place was great. They had misters out front during the summer which was greatly appreciated. Wish we had a place like this back home.

Yelp
Came here for a team holiday party and they were nice enough to let us use the room in the back since we all came for lunch right when they opened at 11am. The place was bigger inside than it looks inside! The menus are ready to grab right when you enter so you can order right away. They have many options for beer that is shown on the wall. I ended up ordering the Tri-Tip meal with a side of mac and cheese. The meal not only comes with 1 side of choice but also came with house salad, cornbread, and a pickle. I wish I took a picture of my food with the tray because I wasn't a fan of the portion they give. But the Tri-tip meat itself was delicious especially with the chimichurri sauce! I wish I had a bit more meat. I will also add that parking can be limited as it is street parking. Other than that, the atmosphere of the place was very lively and the music was great to keep our team holiday party fun and alive! Definitely a good spot for an out of office team bonding.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere and ambiance of this local brewery and restaurant. The choice of local brews can be overwhelming so pace yourself friends. Also, while I haven't tried the food it looks and smells delicious- with lots of offerings. As a bonus if you do try the food save room for the soft serve sundae- looks amazing . Enjoy!

Yelp
I love visiting here for a chill, easy spot to grab dinner and a drink with friends. Parking is easy here, and usually free. Brisket is a hit or miss (2/3 times has been a miss, sadly). Ribs are always our go-to! 1 lb is 4-5 ribs so keep that in mind if you're sharing. Cheddarwurst was delicious! Def recommend trying if you want a supplemental item. Lots of seating! Lots of beer options! Dessert has been good too. Service is always super nice and helpful.

Yelp
Came here for a small party. The place is pretty big. They have both a large outdoor dinning are in front and two dinning areas inside. One private and the main. You order from the front counter and they give you a number to bring out your food later. They have an extensive beer menu and even some slushy type drinks. The staff here is amazing and very helpful. The private dinning area can be booked for parties but if you get there early like we did and it's not booked you can just grab some tables and you don't have to pay the fee. We had 20 something so it worked out great. I got the brisket and tri tip. I made sure to get the fatty brisket so it was juicy . the tri tip was great to. I had the burnt ends beans , hella yummy. The corn bread was kind of small but good. I would definitely come back for the food and it's a great place to hang out.

Yelp
We came here on a rainy Sunday night before the Kings - Lakers game and overall were very impressed. The place opened in 2018 so is well laid out with a cue for ordering, ample seating, restrooms with separate hand washing station . The place is spacious inside and out with modern casual design like Chipotle. The was a pretty big rush of people but the wait wasn't too long. The meal deal was a great value with your protein of choice, side, salad, and cornbread / roll. The bbq meats were well prepared but a little cold. The sides were very heavy and savory especially the mac and cheese. The peach cobbler tastes rich and heavy as well. We look forward to coming back!
google avatar

Constance L.

Yelp
Great vibes and fun atmosphere with plenty of seating and top tier service (including receptiveness to feedback!). Unfortunately half the BBQ meats we tried were super dry :/ We got the sampler platter for 4 -- the pork belly and surprisingly the turkey were the only exceptional cuts. The sausages were solid, and the letdowns were the brisket, chicken, and pulled pork, all of which were pretty dry and likely very overcooked. Onion rings were great though!
google avatar

jessica n.

Yelp
This is a go to spot for our family that's close to home. The pulled pork and brisket are everyone's favorite meats. My husband and I usually each get one of the meats and share them along with adding sides. Our favorites are the Mac and cheese and brisket baked beans. They have a pretty large selection of beers on tap but I'd love to see more non alcoholic options besides soda. The patio is dog friendly so now that we have a pup, we love being able to take him out with us to eat.

Yelp
This place has something for everyone. So many families with kids there, people on date nights, individuals, people on road trips... I was hoping to run into someone we knew from all the the Sacramento offices. Feels like a great place for a board game meetup on a quiet day (not a Friday). My first visit before was so memorable I had to get a souvenir stemless wineglass and even contemplated whether it would be possible to host a wedding reception there. Just ate there again. Still impressed. This review is really for the delicious combination of the mustard BBQ sauce + "brisket protein" (on the side of the caesar salad). See photo - it doesn't look like much but it was THE HIGHLIGHT. Thoughts on other items: Elote - VERY flavorful. Caesar salad and dry rub wings - very seasoned. Slaw - saucy and not that flavorful. Bean side - delicious. We had a lot of BBQ recently so were trying to lay off the red meats, but the beef and pork are really what to get at Urban Roots. DIY station for the BBQ sauces (and self-bussing) are by the bathrooms. The one downside of this place is the restroom sinks being only communal outside and not also inside with the stalls, which is a bit gross. On the drinks: Wide beer selection with cider and wine options. The 10 Degree Pilsner on the side pull tap was great. Pinot Gris ok. Would go back to try the Clash of the Tartans and mango hard seltzer next time.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in a BBQ mood, I always find myself coming back to Urban Roots. I enjoy the quick, casual feel to the place. Lots of seating inside and outdoors. Preferably, I sit outside -- even in the summertime -- they got lots of shade out there to keep it cool. Service is quick; you order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. The 1/2lb pork belly burnt ends is my go to. It's tangy and sweet. Comes with a side salad, mac n cheese, and corn bread. Good portion and always gets me satisfied at the end!
google avatar

Gina O.

Yelp
Bbq is delicious! Mac and cheese is really thick and homemade tasting. They serve you a salad with cranberries and it's so goood!
google avatar

Lily R.

Yelp
I'm so upset this place does private events on a f******* weekend I drove 30 minutes for this place and they were closed for a private event this is the second time this has happened so of your planning for to come here call ahead. They pissed me off
google avatar

Ziba F.

Yelp
This is a nice casual dinning restaurant. Food is ordered at the register and then brought to the table. The menu has something for everyone. The meal comes with your entrees and multiple sides. Tri-tip was cooed medium rare and can be 1/4 or 1/2lb. We went with 1/2 for $18. The flavor was a bit spicy but the chimichuri sauce was really good. The burns end beans was my favorite side dish. Sweet and savory it hit the taste buds perfectly. The Mac and cheese had the perfect blend of gooey cheese and soft pasta. The cornbread was a delicious sweet soft treat and the sweet butter was an added plus The side Ceaser salad didn't hit the spot. It was lacking in dressing unfortunately. It's a brew house and I'm not a beer drinker lol! However beer was ordered the urban light to be specific. It was crisp and light and was liked by those who ordered it. Overall the food was great and the atmosphere is a relaxed cozy experience.
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
Great vibe, nice and roomy! Would be great if there was good music. The ribs were good sauce good. Some people in this large group thought the collard greens were salty and make and cheese unseasoned
google avatar

Kellee B.

Yelp
We went here for an after work event. We sat outside on the long picnic tables which fit everyone perfectly. My coworker recommended their mac & cheese, and it did not disappoint. It was soft, creamy and so cheesy. I also ordered their pretzel that comes with brown mustard and a cheese sauce. The pretzel was so buttery and warm but at times a little too salty for my taste. It wasn't every bite so if I had asked for less salt ,I'm sure it would've been perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here during dinner time on a weekend and here is my experience. The place is HUGE, with plenty of seatings in and outside of the space for seating. It was very spacious and the open space concept is great. The worker got the line moving quickly so I did not have to wait long to order my food and receiving was in a jiffy 15ish minute. I ordered the pork belly burnt ends and the rib dinner platter, and dang it was filling! The pork belly is a recommend from me to order and the ribs were amazing if you enjoy the dryer type of ribs. How did they make the fries because it was AMAZING and sooo crunchy! Wonderful with the bbq sauce that was self served in the restraunt. I will definetly be coming back for more, especially the fries with bbq sauce because that was such a scene stealer to me. Thank you Urban Roots. Food Insta: @kellydotcoms

Yelp
Bbq is one of my favorite foods and I've been wanting to try Urban Roots. I finally got to try it out Friday night. Walking in, I was impressed by the outdoor seating and indoor seating, plenty of seatings for small and large groups! I also like the open kitchen concept. The concept here is you order at the cashier they'll bring the food out to you. This is similar to the bbq concept in Texas. For food I ordered a 1/4 pound of Brisket, half portion of ribs, and I made it a combo (side, side salad, and cornbread) for the side I chose the brisket beans. The food came out within minutes. The food tasted amazing. I've been craving bbq ever since I came back from Texas and this was comparable. Not as good as Texas, but as good as it gets in California. Everything was amazing here including the beer. Urban roots is also one of my favorite breweries in Sacramento. Overall I would highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Cam C.

Yelp
This place has yet to disappoint. Right now my go to are the wings. Get them dry rubbed with a side of the Alabama white sauce! It's a great combo. The beer selection is always on point and you can't go wrong with the onion rings. The staff are always friendly and serviceable. It's a place the whole family can enjoy and even your pets. Inside or outside you will have a good time!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Great BBQ in Sacramento, but you u definitely need to help yourself to the house sauces. I got tri tips, cheddar quest, and a side of the beans. The outdoor space is amazing on a nice day, and obviously their beer selection is top notch.
google avatar

D.wight L.

Yelp
Solid Sacto beer hall (makes their own brews) with a bbq swag. When this hit my search feed, I knew it was going to be a good match. Big open space, warehouse-y feel with high ceilings. Lots of communal bench seating, outdoor patio with a good amount of seating as well. Order up front and food gets brought out. 2 different areas/lines which is annoying, and if you want to get another drink/food item, get back in line...even more annoying. A positive is if you put a card down, they can run a tab, so you don't have to pay each time, which would have been a deal breaker for me. EZPZ Lager ($7/4.5*) It was warm that day and we had just came back from a baseball game in the sun, so could not do anything heavy. This was perfect as it was a crisp Pils style with a sturdier hop finish. I easily gobbled up 2 monster mugs, like how their mugs are .5 litres Euro-style. Pasta Salad ($7/3*) This was a side special for that day. It was penne pasta tossed in a pesto with chunks of summer squash and maybe another veg or 2. Just meh, pasta kinda gummy and the sauce was kinda bland, thought it would be more fresh and vibrant. Think it needs some acid to brighten it and more salt/seasoning. Hot Link ($8/3.5*) Good looking sausage with a firm chewy casing. May be house made as I've never had a hot link with stronger cumin note which gave it southwest vibes. Leaner than I wanted also as it had no pops, just dryish spicy lean sausage grind in the middle. Better when dipped into one of their hot and tangy bbq sauces. Brisket Plate ($29/4*) Half pound of brisket, we chose both lean and fatty cuts. Solid Q as it was tender but still in sliceable form. Good detectable smoke flavor and good on its own. Though a little sauce won't hurt it. We liked the fatty much more than the lean, so next time one hundo fatty. We turned this into a 'meal' so it added a piece of corn bread which was small but awesome, great texture and flavor. Get a side and chose their Collard Greens with Pork. It was nice and juicy and the greens were cooked properly. Just a tad salty, and glad it was a small portion, cuz any bigger I couldn't have took any more bites. But a pretty solid bbq out and with the cold homemade brews, just elevated this to a solid 4*.

Yelp
Our whole family loves Urban Roots. It's a great place to bring a large group as there is a lot of space, and there is something to eat for anyone in the group. All the food is incredible and this is no doubt the best brewery in the Sacramento area. The breadth of styles and quality is unmatched. The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and quick. There's really no notes on this one. This review was made in connection with a Toast promotion.

Yelp
Came here for a quick casual Tuesday lunch. The restaurant is bright and spacious and has plenty of outdoor space too. We ordered the angus brisket, shrimp skewer, and grilled mahi mahi. The brisket (1/2 lb) comes in four pieces, one of which is much thicker, leaner, and less tender. Apart from that we liked all items, and they were reasonably priced.
google avatar

Franny Z.

Yelp
I had the French dip and it was so good. I had onion rings too. We love this brewery.

Yelp
I remember really loving the pork belly burnt ends the first time I've ever been here. Coming again, it's absolutely still my favorite thing to order & I think it's worth it. So much savory flavor goes into. Just know it might be very oily. We also tried the brisket this time. It was pretty good, but not mind blowing. And the portion size was wayyyyy smaller than I hoped for. I know it goes by pound, but man, was I surprised. We made this a meal, which all tasted pretty good! Mac & cheese, side salad and the cornbread with the super yummy maple butter (I think it was maple butter). This is a pretty cool spot to hang out with friends and grabs some food and drinks. Staff was pretty nice. There's a table with bbq sauces & you put away your own dishes near there once you're done eating. I'd still come back, but make sure to only order the burnt ends, or make sure to look at photos to see what I'm getting.

Yelp
Been here a few times and haven't done a review yet. They are a craft brewery and smokehouse. Urban Roots has a nice selection of beers including ales, stouts, lagers, and even wine options. The draft list that they have is subject to change, but you can't go wrong with the options they have. Enjoy some good smoked meats, or their burgers, salads, and sandwiches. There's a nice patio to sit outside along with seating inside.

Leanna K.

Yelp
Tried the pork belly burnt ends, shrimp skewer, pork spare ribs, and tri tip. The pork belly was the clear winner -- tender, nicely seared, and coated in a sweet sauce that hit all the right notes. That said, it wasn't anything you couldn't find at plenty of other BBQ spots, so it's not enough to bring me back. Everything else missed the mark. The shrimp was very overcooked, the ribs and tri tip were tough and dry, and the sauces were just okay. For BBQ, I'm looking for juicy, tender meats that make you want to lick your fingers, and this just wasn't it. Ordering is counter style, they give you a number, and the food comes to your table. Friendly enough setup, but food-wise, I'd absolutely skip this as Sac has plenty of better options.

Yelp
My nephew was craving brisket for his 13th birthday. We had about 10 of us so we ordered basically everything they have. The place was clean and the staff was kind. It's a nice big open eating area with a good sized patio for better weather. The greens, Mac n cheese, cornbread and fried pickles were all very good. The meats were super tender, juicy and smoky. I pigged out, the only down side of great bbq is the itis... would highly recommend a visit. For the beer people out there they have a very big selection of beers on tap too.

Yelp
Delicious food, amazing beer choices. Wine choices not so much but that's ok. Had tri tip, burnt ends, Mac and cheese, house salad, and corn bread plus a few brews.

Yelp
Stopped by while I was in the area and I'm really glad I did. The place has a chill vibe a good mix of people hanging out, enjoying the weather, and just taking it easy. Service was quick and friendly from the moment I walked in, which always makes a great first impression. I grabbed a cold beer to start, then decided to try one of their smoothies went with the coconut lime, and man, it was incredible. Super refreshing, perfectly balanced flavor, and honestly one of the best smoothies I've had in a while. Didn't get a chance to try the food this time, but what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked awesome big portions and nicely plated. Definitely plan to come back soon to try a full meal. Great spot to relax, grab a drink, and just unwind for a bit.

Yelp
The atmosphere and service was phenomenal! The food...can't say enough...still raving about it. The burnt ends were sticky and delicious! Beer on tap selection was endless and the bartenders gave great suggestions to try. Definitely stop by if you're in the area or waiting for the highway traffic to die down.

Yelp
3.5/4 stars for me. This was a highly recommended to me by someone in Sac as they mentioned every time they have friends and family visit this is their go to spot. It has cool vibes and lots of beer selections and just a fun sit down place. We had a beer flight and decided to take our food to go as we were super tired from our long day. Staff is super friendly. I can't speak too much to the beer selection as I've really toned down on drinking beer for many years now. In regards to the food--- While I typically expect to more when going to bbq spots, similar to other reviews I cannot justify the amount of meat you pay for the price. Maybe this was specifically in regards to the ribs. The half pound of ribs only came with 2 pieces of ribs. It makes me wonder if they take into consideration the bones and if this is the weight precooked or after. The 1/4 lb pulled pork seemed to have more meat and more filling. I would say everything was good but nothing particularly out of this world or memorable compared to other places I've been. I would say the brisket tacos is prob worth a try in terms of taste and cost. Wish we ordered to dine in so that we could have ordered more food instead. -brisket tacos -1/4 lb pulled pork -1/2 Lb ribs -pork belly burnt ends We got the tacos, pulled pork, ribs,

Yelp
Our group loved it so much we went twice. The meat eaters loved everything they got- over the course of the few days they got brisket, chicken wings, beans, cornbread, side salad and mac n cheese. Lots of smoke rings on the meat and they were in heaven. I super appreciated the clear labeling of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan items. As the vegan I did not leave hungry- The side melon salad was tasty (no gross slimy melon to be found) and the succotash salad was delicious and filling. The salad is enough for two people depending on your hunger level. There is also soft serve (dairy based). Plenty of seating options indoors and outdoors. There are 5.00 pint nights (Monday and Tuesday). The service was perfect and everything came out quickly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Urban Roots is our favorite brewery in Sacramento. First and foremost, the beers are consistently top notch. We've been coming here for 5 years and definitely have our favorites (Luna De Miel Mexican lager is #1), but you really can't go wrong ordering any of the house brews. The draft list is expansive, covering the most popular trends, but also often including complex malty beers and other styles often omitted by other small breweries. Stick around for some great BBQ! We love the smoked turkey and have frequently taken home a half pound for sandwiches. "Make it a meal" for a fantastic lunch on the patio w/ pickles, salad, cornbread and your choice of side. We go crazy for the collared greens. The crew working here is so friendly and upbeat. Ask for suggestions & current house favorites... the team always seems happy to help. We no longer live locally, but do our best to make it to Urban Roots whenever we visit or pass through the area. If we are short on time we'll still stop for some beer to-go. This stuff is the best around town. Cheers!

Yelp
Stumbled across this spot while in Sacramento last month and it was a great find. Urban Roots features a large selection of beers/cocktails and their smoked meats hit the spot. My favorite were the wings!! Great spot for date night/day or friends get together, also family friendly too so truly anyone can enjoy it. Large venue, ample seating indoors as well as outdoors (heated lamps for the colder months) and offering live music on the weekends.

Yelp
Service was very good but the food kinda sucked. The portions were incredibly small, too. $30 something for a tiny tray of nachos that have been hammered to death in the oven. Yikes.

Yelp
When a friend told me that she was starting a new job, I immediately sent her a list of possible restaurants for us to celebrate this achievement. To my delight, she selected Urban Roots Brewing and Smokehouse...a restaurant that I have had bookmarked on Yelp for quite some time. Being that Christmas is near, the restaurant was packed with what looked like colleagues having a holiday party accompanied by good food and brews. I ordered the half portion Pork Belly Burnt Ends (so freakin delicious) meal with fries and cornbread (it's carb-loading season). To quench my thirst, I ordered the refreshing Blend In: Tropical ale (I'm not a fan of beer but found this to be quite satisfying). If you're a beer fan, they have a diverse selection. The staff here are very personable and friendly. Towards the end of our visit, who I believe to be either a supervisor or co-owner, retrieved our empty glasses and politely inquired about our dining experience (i.e., satisfaction with the food and drinks). His approach led me to believe that this business truly values the feedback of their customers, which is one of the indications of great management. I look forward to making a return visit in the near future!

Yelp
I enjoyed what I ordered. The USDA Prime Angus brisket had a good marbling, making it tender and juicy. The seasoned rub they use has a good flavor and aroma. The collard greens were fantastic. The greens were tender yet not overcooked. I loved the cornbread and even the salad was perfect. A complimentary dill pickle was also included with the order. The only problem was I could not get over how pricey everything was here. Half the brisket is only 4 ounces, three thin slices for $10. Even with the addition of two sides, it was not a hearty meal. Everything was delicious but I was disappointed with the $20+ I spent for my total order (half portion of brisket, two sides) because I was still hungry. 3.5 stars. The food was delicious but pricey. The portions could be more generous.

Yelp
Loved the chimichiri Tri tip! Ribs were good as was the Cali Club, but would prefer sourdough to white bread. Pulled pork was flavorful. Beers were great. Fries were crispy and salty. Loved all the barbecue sauces for dipping fries.

Yelp
Best bbq in sac hands down. Recently was taken here by a friend. Great environment, great staff. Plenty of seating. Everything tastes exceptional and the cornbread is to die for. The staff is super helpful, specifically McLane. He went above and beyond when my family showed up on Sunday night. Phenomenal help even with being counter service.
