"COVID-19 update: Temporarily closed. Located in Hotel Palomar, Sable is the destination for a few drinks or a full meal. They serve gastropub dishes with an American twist, and a long list of wood-fired flatbreads. Their 14-page cocktail menu is garnering plenty of attention, too, for its mix of old-fashioned drinks (a long list of options for a good old Martini) and new twists (Ice & Fire, for example, is a tequila-based drink with Sriracha, cucumber, agave, and fresh lime)."

Sable Kitchen in River North’s pop-up channels ‘90s spring break vibes - Eater Chicago

"One of Chicago’s most pedigreed bars is dipping into ‘90s nostalgia, the era when MTV started to drift away from playing music videos. Sable Kitchen & Bar, the essential cocktail lounge in River North attached to the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Chicago, plans to bring back those spring break vibes when MTV VJs would set up remotes from Daytona, Cancun, Jersey Shore, and other beach destinations. It’s called Aloha Beaches: A ‘90s Spring Break Pop-Up Bar and starts on March 31 and goes through April 30, according to a news release." - Ashok Selvam

Sable Kitchen & Bar - Review - River North - Chicago - The Infatuation

"But Sable in the Hotel Palomar is pretty great if you’re looking for a low-key place to catch up with someone downtown. It’s cozy and relaxed inside - and they have good bar food (like truffle popcorn and a solid burger) not to mention a long whiskey menu that you can navigate while killing time downtown." - Adrian Kane

Very nice spot. The staff were incredibly nice and friendly. We sat at the bar for cocktails. The cocktails were all clever, although they were not cheap, they definitely earned their prices, especially in this neighborhood. Very glad to have randomly stopped in here. The setting Is nice generally, but the bar felt really comfortable relative to many of the other busy busy bars in the neighborhood

Google
Food was very good. My husband had the 2 egg breakfast. I had the fried egg sandwich. The potatoes were so yummy. Small quaint little place. There is a mix of booths, couches, and higher table with bench plush seats on one side and individuals chairs on the other. Very clean, good service. We had an issue with our order being lost for a moment in the mix of things but the staff came out and was honest about what happened and offered compensation. They even sent us on our way with some yummy popcorn. The same menu is offered in room if you are staying at the Palomar. Nice job Sable!

I met a friend here for drinks on Sunday this past weekend, while I was in town for a conference. When I walked in, the place was pretty empty, not unusual for a Sunday. I sat down at the bar and talked to the bartender briefly about their drink list. I had absolutely no idea how extensive the list was. There is an entire page for gin & tonics. They have classic cocktails with a twist, and their "unforgettable" cocktails. The bartender had only been working there for a few months but he had the entire list memorized. After my friend got there, she told me it was on of the best cocktail bars in the city and she had always wanted to go. The waitress was so funny and quirky. She also had so many recommendations and was very knowledgeable on the drinks. When she was busy at other tables, what I can assume was the manager would swing by our table and ask how our drinks were. He was suggest other drinks based on our taste preferences, and assured us if we hated it he would send it back and try something new. It was such a nice surprise for being in downtown Chicago. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

Google
Always solid cocktails at this bar. We were staying in the polamar so this place was great for a night cap. They have a great cocktail list. The bartender was friendly and quick. Ice cubes were nice and clear. The old fashioned a are always a go to when I visit here.

Google
Fantastic cocktails and usually a good but not overcrowded bar scene. All the food that I've had has been great, although the oysters were poorly shucked. Bartenders are super friendly and informative as the concoct those perfectly made drinks. A more sophisticated scene than others in the immediate area.

Google
Terrific brunch with a great vibe and music playing. Attentive service and great food. The highlight of this place is their tremendous selection of bourbon, single malt scotch, and other spirits. I took a picture of the very hard to find Blackadder, one of the best single malts in the world (in my opinion). Highly recommend this place for that reason and yeah the food and service is top notch.

Google
Just stopped in for a quick after dinner drink. The atmosphere in this place is amazing. Everything is classy and well though out. It is dark but not too dark where you bump your knees on everything. I just got a beer on tap but I hear their specialty cocktails (especially their whiskey ones) are amazing. They are pricy at $14 a piece. I didn't try any of the food but from what I saw waiters carrying by me the whole time I was there and from what my friends have told me, it's worth checking out.

Google
This is a really great place. The ambiance and decor is relaxed with a nice upscale feel. The food is fantastic and the staff is friendly. They have a nice cocktail and spirit selection. We stopped here for a late lunch and ordered a few sharables. Everything was wonderful. The calabrian toast (on the weekend afternoon menu) was absolutely amazing. We also ordered the fries, which were good but not great, although the garlic aioli made them much better. I would definitely go back the next time I'm in the city. For couple cocktails and some small plates, this place was perfect.

Yelp
I stayed in the Sonesta and CBR was in my lobby. I had one of those travel days. I was exhausted the next morning. The service was first rate, the coffee was high quality and my custom omelette was better than expected. I chose ham, cheddar and tomatoes. The ham was flavorful,, the cheddar was the real deal. The tomatoes were truly delicious farm fresh tomatoes. They exceeded my expectations. The experience continues into happy hour. The house red was delicious. Nate was my bartender. He served up the short ribs which were featured in other reviews. Amazing! Had dessert in a glass. Muddled berries, gin, egg white, topped with charred rosemary. Gorgeous.

Yelp
11am on a Saturday morning, approximately 7 tables out of 50 full. Would not usually mind a slower waitress if busy, but there was literally nothing going on. Waitress checked on us once to take our drink order, 4 2 ingredient cocktails, and food order. Food came out before the drinks except for one meal which we waited an extra 40 minutes for. People were done eating when we asked where the 4th meal was and they said it was coming. Why not bring out all food at the same time? Then told us they would comp the drinks for the table and bring an extra for the person left out, all of it ended up on the bill. Waitress had no clue the whole time and didn't check on us once to even see how the food was. Pretty bland place, do not recommend

Yelp
Edgar treated my group and I with wonderful food and drinks. I would definitely recommend this place for food and as a chic little hide away from the high noon summer heat.

Yelp
Great little bar attached to the Sonesta hotel. One of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. Nice happy hour menu too.

Yelp
I stopped into CBR after giving up on getting a seat at a nearby, newly-opened Italian eatery which shall not be named that turned out to have backless barstools and a very high decibel level. Located in the Royal Sonesta Hotel (formerly Palomar), I have fond memories of this spot from its earlier incarnation as Sable. I hadn't had a chance to visit CBR until yesterday. I was in search of a hand-crafted cocktail in charming, peaceful surrounds. I'm happy to report that CBR delivered. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a cozy winter evening. Holiday decor around the space added a seasonal, festive touch. When I stopped in, it seemed like most of the patrons at the bar were staying at the hotel, but I felt welcomed and was promptly offered water and a drink menu. I had a taste for a negroni, which was exceptionally prepared. The menu features mainly light bites, and I was told by the Nate behind the bar that CBR offers happy hour (wine/beer and featured craft cocktails along with food) on Tuesday-Friday, from 4pm-6pm. Will definitely be back here for an elevated happy hour!

Yelp
We chose this random brunch spot, and it was no regrets at all! We shared the chicken and waffles, and it was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. I loved that they split it for us, it was so good. It's a NEED to try. The braised beef was just as amazing! I loved how fresh everything tasted with good balance of flavors. My friend got the steak and eggs (w/ potato's) and it was okay! It was pretty good just a little burnt. The lady who served us today at 10:45am, I believe she was new, SHE WAS SO GREAT! She was so quick, accommodating and friendly. The only 2 things we didn't care for was the coffee alcoholic drink, and the fact that I checked in on Yelp and was given a 20% off coupon, for the manager to not let us use it, and gave us another percentage instead, I loved the food though so try it out!

Yelp
After a long drive to the city, we were looking for a quick bite and saw that our hotel restaurant was closing fairly soon. We asked if we could be seated and order food and the server was so nice to get us seated. I ordered the "I'm just mad about Saffron" cocktail and man was it good! It had a ton of different flavors and the combination was amazing. We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts, French fries, and a burger for us all to share. The little one lived their French fries of course but she also loves the Brussels sprouts! The glaze and nuts on top was the perfect sweetness and tang to bring out the flavors. Amazing spot for food and great drinks.

Yelp
You had me at Short Rib Hash! In Chicago for the weekend and looking for a brunch place. Yelp led me here with their rating. Thanks Yelpers! My friend and I shared the Short Rib hash and the Chia Seed Pudding. $32 what a bargain!! Savory, fresh and delish, from the crisp asparagus, edamame, micro greens and pickled onion. My poached egg was on the done side, but that's how I like them. Ooosy not runny! Jessica our server was delightful. Loved the open kitchen concept. We tried to make a reservation online, and they said there were no tables, but we took a chance and had no waiting. Inside the Sonesta hotel!

Yelp
Great ambiance, good food, wonderful service. Really enjoyed it. Ordered the salad and the avocado chicken sandwich which were both superb!

Lisa H.

Yelp
Short rib was amazing. We split the smash burger and the short rib. Both were super good. Cocktails were also delicious. We had the mule and the old fashion. Great atmosphere with music playing. Nice vibe.

Yelp
Had a great time here catching up with the girls. Food & drinks were amazing! Nate serves the best drinks here! I'll definitely will be coming back here!

Yelp
Food was excellent. Great vibe. Went here for a meal during a conference. It seemed like it's more of a drinks and apps place as my server, who was also a bartender only took my drink and appetizer order. After my drink and brussel sprouts were delivered, he never came back to take my order. I flagged down another staff member who went and grabbed him. Food came quickly and everything was great!

Yelp
Was working from home today and around 330pm I decided to take a walk to try a new restaurant in my area. I was walking by CBR around 4pm and it looked like they were just opening so I stopped in and I was immediately impressed. Nate and Miguel were both opening the restaurant and they couldn't have been more of a pleasure to interact with and gave me some really good recommendations on food. I started off with the Tuna Poke on happy hour... the only thing I'm upset about is I didn't start dipping the poke in the sauce until the end, and it was incredibly tasty... The dish itself was rock solid and it was the perfect appetizer because it was light with protein and healthy fat... (I was super hungry when I got there so it killed the hunger, but I still had plenty of room for the chicken sandwich and fries) With that in mind, I don't know if I was just really hungry... or the Chicken sandwich was the most perfect combination of flavor and tender chicken, topped with grilled Brussels sprouts. I think the kids these days call that, Fire! Ps. Make sure to ask for the chicken sauce on the side as well. They both recommended it was much better than having it with ketchup. Honestly, hands down one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while. Lastly, I tried Nate's self engineered "Kiss-Kiss" cocktail drink which I thought was amazing (Whiskey, with egg whites and some kind of fancy berries). Was definitely impressed by that one which is what you're seeing in the action photo, above! Just thought I'd say thanks for the food and service! You guys crushed it. Best, -Danny

Yelp
Stopped in for drinks with some friends. Everything was great but the Rai Tai was amazing. Will definitely be back. Especially with their service. Nate at the bar was great, welcoming, fun and friendly! Thank you!

Yelp
Four and a half stars - only thing that could be better was a bit more robust menu and the rose sauce on the bucatini being more authentic. Food came out quick and on point. Flatbread was great, skirt steak was awesome and the tacos were delicious!! Service was prompt and friendly. I love that it was a part of our hotel. Truffle fries sooo good!
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Might be good, but I'll never know. Call first as the hours seem to be more of a suggestion than a reality. Showed up at 6:00 when calling and website and yelp said "closes at 10:00. Nope. All locked up and none of the staff acknowledging cold hungry thirsty people that walked to come see (and pay) them. No worries. Walked to Il Porcellino around the corner and had a wonderful experience, so I'll go back there and never experience this place. Oh well. Feel like my gain their loss as Il Porcellino was so well managed with great atmosphere, food and service...

Yelp
I thought this was a surprisingly unassuming little spot. Didn't expect a lot but the food was really good. Had the short rib and it was very nice and the staff was super nice and happy to serve. I'd highly recommend this spot and sit outside if you can.

Adam R.

Yelp
I popped in for a quick drink but ended up staying for the service. Given that it's a hotel bar, I wasn't expecting much, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The drinks were fantastic--especially the "Berry in Love," a cocktail crafted by the bartender, Nate. He recommended it, and now I'm hooked. It's clear he knows what he's doing! It was a quiet Wednesday night, close to closing time, and anyone who's been in the service industry knows how hard it is to keep the energy up when things are slow. But Nate was friendly, attentive, and didn't make me feel rushed at all. I'll definitely be making this a regular spot.
google avatar

Daria B.

Yelp
Really cool restaurant + bar located inside of the Royal Sonesta hotel on N. State St. In the morning, the left side offers a full service breakfast. In the evening, the right side is a lounge/bar area that serves small bites and cocktails with cozy seating and chill music.
google avatar

Margaret D.

Yelp
Alexis was a great host for breakfast. Helpful with travel questions and a very attentive. Food was excellent. Margaret

Andrew W.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went to the bar for food and drinks. Nate and Miguel served us very well throughout the night. Nate was especially friendly and helpful. He made us his cocktail and turned on the football game we wanted to watch. The vibe was also nice, a couple tvs, light music, high top bar, and couches to enjoy with company. Highly recommend!

Jillian E.

Yelp
Nate is an amazing serving and bartender. He does a great job socializing with the guests and is super attentive!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a nice chic and classy restaurant that has a cozy feel. We tried their chilaquiles and breakfast plate which were alright and the portions were on the smaller side. Their strawberry mimosas were a hit though and so were their lattes. Decent spot if you are looking for something close by to your hotel if you're in the area

Yelp
Elegant happy hour at @cbrchicago in @royalsonestarivernorth Wednesdays to Fridays 4-6pm CBR bringing in all the vibes we need for a post-work happy hour. Located in Royal Sonesta hotel in River North, it's a quick walk from state street red line or from the loop. Clay the mixologist @xsuperclay and chef @jenzambrano80 brings in the best craft cocktails and modern american dishes throughout brunch, happy hour, and dinner (sponsored) We had the CBR old-fashioned & "the nude rose" starring Tequila Blanco. Utterly delicious tried some whiskeys as well as there were flights across Mighters, Four Roses, Makers Mark, Jameson. You name it and they have it! I personally love whiskey so it was perfect! Other highlights for happy hour $8-12 old fashioned, Sazerac, Kentucky buck, aperol spritz $4-6 draft beer, cider, hard seltzer & house wines/bubbles $8-10 truffle fries, Mac & cheese, pretzel bites, chicken pastor mini tacos, margherita Check it out! Yelp
Wow - I am so surprised this restaurant gets good reviews. We went there for happy hour. I was excited to see Sam Adams's seasonal draft for $4 - but then I asked what the "seasonal" was and was told that it was Boston Lager. What a joke for a seasonal beer! The flatbread, for $8, was a half-flatbread -literally half an oval and my wife got a glass of wine and said she disliked it as well. I would not recommend this place.

Morayma D.

Yelp
excellent service. Edgar made the experience even better super friendly and profession.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Affiliated with the hotel connected next door. Open limited hours during the week days. Paper plane drink was nice. Bar food was on point. Bartender made a mocktail, that suited my non-alcohol appetite for the evening. It's the spot if you don't want to go outside of your hotel.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Great place! Nate is the man! His attention to customers, speedy and knowledgeable service is exceptional. He shows what hospitality is all about

Yelp
Good food and wonderful presentation. Nice portions in a comfortable environment. I will be back; not another hotel lobby restaurant

Rhea V.

Yelp
Great service from the bar staff. Nate and Miguel were both attentive to their duties. Loved the music selection which was a good mix of both modern and EDM. The food selection is somewhat limited, but the short rib entree is my fav. Come check it out - you wouldn't be disappointed!

Yelp
Great spot for a meal, and/or drinks when in the area. We came by for a night cap. The bartender was very friendly and gave us a deal on a whiskey neat! Great atmosphere and decor! Will be back again!

Yelp
The croissants and chocolate croissants were delicious. We loved them so much we ordered a couple to go. Beautiful atmosphere and Edgar was a great server:)

Yelp
Great atmosphere to start with drinks. Also enjoyed the food as we got hungry. We even had dessert. No need to leave. A triple crown winner. Service was fantastic making CBR a must visit.

Yelp
We had such a fun time here! Nate was our server and ensured that we had a fabulous time. His hand crafted cocktails were delicious, especially his cosmopolitan! Definitely recommend for a cute date night to a night out with friends, the vibes are great and so was the music. We'll forsure be back :)

Yelp
This used to be Sable remember that! Sable closed down before the pandemic. This is in the Royal Sonesta Hotel - River North which used to be the Palomar. CBR means "Corn, Bailey and Rye". PS. They're not serving food yet just spirits, beer and wine.

Chinyera M.

Yelp
Edgar was great!!! It was a nice birthday brunch and the food was delicious. It's a nice location and great environment.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I tried their steak and fries today and it is to die for, love the truffle frie! As for drinks, any cocktail Nathan makes will taste amazing, trust me. CBR has become my designated spot when I'm in the mood for a nice relaxing happy hour and some good music. Vibes are always groovy, very impressed.

PeacefulGirl A.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place after work when looking for a spot to unwind after a productive work week. It's chill but chic with amazing HH options. Amazing staff ( I had the honor of being taken care of by Miguel, J.D and Alexis). Each one of them amazing. Thanks you CBR!
google avatar

Niecie L.

Yelp
Had breakfast here while visiting Chicago. My foodie friend and I ordered items that we shared - traditional egg/veggie frittata and a vegan, chickpea based frittata. We didn't know what to expect with the chickpea item - different taste and texture than an egg base but ''twas just delicious! Nice ambience, good service, reasonable prices.

Yelp
We stayed in the hotel, and thought we would give this a try......... They missed on so many levels. The service was lacking, and we were the only table. The server forgot drinks, and we had to ask multiple times. It is very expensive for what you get, the portions are small, and the food tasted mediocre at best... I would bypass this place and seek out other options. We only went here once on this trip. This place used to be good a few years ago, and I do not know what happened....

Merry E.

Yelp
Service!! Attentive staff. No need to ask for anything the staff anticipates your needs! Drinks were creative and festive, also had appetizers from the new menu! Kiss Kiss Holiday cocktail (photo below) was so tasty! Thank you to Bartender Nate, we loved the ambiance and street views! We enjoyed lounging on the velvet couches with our drinks. What a fun night!

Lauren L.

Yelp
This restaurant was in our hotel. Very nice ambiance, I can see this being a great place for happy hour or after dinner drinks. We went for breakfast. It wasn't very busy around 10am on a Sunday. Great service and good food. My boyfriend had the classic and I had avocado toast. Their bacon is amazing. Coffee and cappuccinos were also very good.

Shawna G.

Yelp
Edgar was soo sweet and accommodating. Very nice atmosphere. Food was awesome. The omelette was off the charts good.

Angela D.

Yelp
The food and cocktails were great! A very cute and modern atmosphere that had an intimate feel. The service was great because everyone was so friendly and attentive. Will be back for their brunch menu.
