A lively Astoria eatery, Sabry’s serves up a mouthwatering selection of Egyptian-spiced seafood, from whole grilled branzino to crispy calamari, all paired with warm, homemade pita and refreshing mint lemonade in a casual, welcoming atmosphere.
"It’s back to Astoria for one of Khan’s particular favorites run by the eponymous Chef Sabry, who came up cooking fish in Alexandria, Egypt. “I know many of you have had Greek seafood, but have you had Egyptian seafood? Think octopus, shrimp, branzino—all made with Egyptian spices. Make sure to get the shrimp tagine and any grilled fish. Ask for the eggplants as an appetizer, too.”" - chris mohney
"Sabry’s is a long-running Egyptian seafood joint, where a selection of very fresh fish (typically, sea bass, porgy, snappers, and mullets) can be had grilled, deep fried, or oven roasted. Grilled sardines are always a good choice, preceded perhaps by a plate of fried eggplant with tomato sauce, baba ghanoush, or a bowl of lobster bisque — and yes, the menu traipses into other regions of the Mediterranean, including things like shrimp scampi. This restaurant is a seafood lover’s paradise." - Robert Sietsema
"Why have french fries when you can have fried spearings? The custom is much the same: You dip something long and skinny in a sauce and pop it in your mouth, biting first into the crispy and salty layer, and then down into the soft innards. But in Astoria’s Little Egypt, Sabry’s punches up its version of the appetizer ($15), yielding more and bigger puffed-up globules of crispy fried breading than I’ve seen at Greek mainstay Telly’s Taverna or even in my own home cooking. With a fresh-squeezed limeade verdant and frothy with blended mint leaves on the side, I could have this combo as a snack every day." - Eater Staff
"Chef Sabry knows his seafood. If you have any doubts, he’ll likely be standing by at his namesake Astoria seafood house to help you pick a fresh fish right off the ice before whisking it away to the kitchen and returning with your new favorite plate of seafood. This restaurant isn’t particularly formal, but the plates of Egyptian-spiced sardines and octopus feel luxurious, and we highly recommend stopping by for a fun group meal or family celebration. Go big and get the seafood combo for two, a great value that includes fish, squid, shrimp, scallops, and a whole lobster you can choose yourself from the tank. You also need to order a whole grilled sea bass or branzino. No one does a whole fish like Sabry’s. The fish will arrive at your table flaky and charred, and all you'll need to do is squeeze a generous amount of lemon onto it and pretend you don’t notice a proud Sabry checking to see your reaction from across the room." - Neha Talreja
