The Giant Eater Map of New York City Slices

"This antediluvian Bushwick pizzeria that resides above the Dekalb stop on the L dates back to the days when this was an Italian neighborhood and its sausage roll was fabled. In terms of pizza, go for the Sicilian slice. It's thick and square and brown as a beetle, with little rivulets of sauce and cheese and a generous sprinkling of dried Romano for extra saltiness and flavor. It's worth traveling from another borough to try!" - Robert Sietsema

Eater Critic Robert Sietsema Picks His Favorite Pizza Slices - Eater NY

"This Williamsburg mainstay, open since 1967, is one of Brooklyn’s more elegant pizzerias, and you’d never hesitate to take a date here. The place is decorated with lots of marble, and the slices are fastidiously turned out, with a “bone” (the circumferential hump of dough) thinner than most and dough more bouncy than crisp. My favorite here is an eggplant slice with little hillocks of ricotta." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Food is crazy good and served freshly baked. We ordered regular cheese pizza slices which were as good or better compared to other famous pizza joints in the city. We also ordered a Grandma's Old Fashioned Sicilian pizza which had the rectangular slices and this was beyond amazing. The chicken parmesan sandwich was also to die for. Will definitely buy Sal's again.

Google
Sal’s is a spot I’ve been really enjoying. The staff is always super friendly and the pizza is delicious. I would recommend a slice of their white any day. A slice being around $5 is a deal and I look forward to going to Sal’s again.

Google
A regular cheese pie is $22 and $25 with pepperoni. I ordered 4 pepperoni slices, 3 cheese slices and 2 sicilians which came out to almost $43. When I asked why, the person behind the counter was extremely rude like I did something wrong. It seems it's more expensive when you order "slices" instead of pie. Just be transparent with your customers. Post the prices for slices if there is a mark up! It's easy to think we will pay less if you are selling pies at $22. I appreciate the gesture but no thanks. I come from a customer service background. I was very polite and asked a question seeking clarification and you responded in a rude manner. Appreciate the people that bring you business, especially when there are many other pizza options nearby. You also never know who you are speaking with and what kind of business they can bring you in the near future.

Google
I will give this place a 10/10!!!! I came to Sal’s pizzeria after my boyfriend job’s Christmas party, came here with my bf. The food was delicious, my bf bought me a Buffalo chicken slice it was nice & fresh. Sadly I wasn’t able to take a picture of it because I was starving. But my Buffalo chicken slice was fresh & hot. We also ordered Caesar salad & pasta everything was excellent & also the customer service was lovely. I will definitely try to come back again.

Google
Every time I eat here I’m reminded why I love it so much. The cheese slice is perfection. Dont fix what’s not broken. Sals is amazing and this is the most underrated slice in the city (I say this as I’ve loved and enjoyed many other pizza spots in nyc). Just come here. No frills, been around since the 60s (long before I was born lol) but enjoy and thank me and (obviously) Sal later.

Google
It’s been a while since we have had good pizza, this place rocks. We also order pasta and it too was delicious. We truly enjoyed it. Also, love the fact they do local delivery, saved us money. Thanks Sal for keeping it real.

Google
Awesome pizza spot that I've ordered since middle school. Their regular slices are one of the best ways to experience a NYC slice. The crust is crispy, with a savory tomato sauce and to top it off with great cheese 🔥

Yelp
Was in the Brooklyn area attending an art gallery show and we came across this staple of the community, Sals Pizza has been "serving Italian entrees since 1967.". The neighborhood is trendy, filled with many restaurants (some we discovered with 2 hour wait for a seat). We popped our head in Sals for pizza and it didn't disappoint. The place has an Old school and humble vibe. A few tables and stand up option too. The service was OK, the pizza YUM!! SAL serves good NY style pizza with an old-school flare that my teens and I enjoyed. Recommend you Check it out.

Yelp
Hearty pizza slices. Stopped by for a quick bite. Service was quick and friendly. I liked the crust and there was a good amount of toppings. Plenty of seating inside the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Sals is your neighborhood pizzeria. Has the largest hot heros I have seen in this side of town. Great bang for your buck. The pizza is standard. The workers are nice and they have ample seating.

Carla S.

Yelp
In town for weekend, the pizza and vibe on point!! Excellent service as well!! I will return my next visit!

Yelp
Stopped by for a late night slice. Pretty spacious inside with many tables and chairs. Came in for a slice and saw a good crowd of people enter the store to grab a slice. Seemed like a popular spot for the locals. Pizza didn't blow me away but it was a tasty and solid slice! I'd come back again!

Yelp
I've been coming to Sal's since I was a kid. I think they a have a very solid slice of pizza. Their specialty slices and rolls are great too. Large entree dishes are pretty good. Yes, they have the occasional hit or miss days. The staff is always nice and the vibe is a very solid pizzeria feeling. Prices are the biggest issue. I think they may have the most expensive slice in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick slice before going out. Very average - would not say this is Brooklyn/NYC quality pizza. It was just ok. Crust kind of falls apart. Sauce is decent. Needed a little salt. This pizza will get the job done. I will say- what stands out about this place is the service - everyone was so nice.

Jairo V.

Yelp
the People here are theives they took my Mother's and i credit card info after ordering food and used it DO NOT USE A CARD WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!! they used my Mother's card at the local Postal office for ipostal

Michael M.

Yelp
My wife ordered a small pizza pie from Sals today and when I got there for the pie they said 12.00 OK so I asked how many Slices he said four I said four?? everything is shrinking I told him I ordered a small pie not 4 slices it's ridiculous you pay the same price for less now... This place just lost a customer
google avatar

Mariel T.

Yelp
Solid pizza spot. If you're only going to get one slice, get the spicy honey (looks just like pepperoni pizza). It's the best!
google avatar

Xiomara C.

Yelp
NY style pizza done right! Excellent customer service. Crispy crust, sweet and savory tomato sauce. Nice cheese/sauce ratio. Hit the slice with a nice fold and bust it down wherever you are. Also, the pepperoni rolls are so good we had to get 3. I'd definitely try the pasta next time but for now the pizza is definitely highly recommended.

Yelp
I ordered eggplant hero. I have never eaten eggplant that didn't taste like eggplant. I can only assume it was frozen or something. I was so disappointed!

robert g.

Yelp
First in area to charge tax on everything even a slice also first to charge almost 4% to use credit card now he just started to use small Italian bread with the heel on both ends much smaller than regular cut Italian bread and keeps raising prices. The original owner Sal (mimo)was the best this owner bought from mimo in around 2017 or 2018 and has been the greediest miser ever

Yelp

Yelp
Mmmmm......light and crispy Sicilian slices. Pretty decent pizza joint not too far from the L train Lorimer Street subway stop. The place has some seating, it's bright and clean, service was decent, and the pizza tasted good. Not much else to say. Pretty much all pizza tastes good to me after many beers during happy hour or late night bar hopping. I enjoyed a few slices here after hanging out with friends, then with a belly full of pizza headed onto the subway back to Manhattan. After all, pizza is life.

Juan T.

Yelp
Great service, fast delivery, and a super pie.
google avatar

Paulina L.

Yelp
Pretty good pizza place and super cheap. Can't go wrong with a classic cheese slice of a Sicilian.
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
Ordered cheese pizza with tomato slices. It was pretty bland unfortunately. Disappointing considering they add a $3 delivery fee. But still good. Will try other items maybe when delivery.com has a promo to off set that delivery fee....

Yelp
**For Delivery During COVID-19** When the NY Pause first began, like many NYers, we were terrified of leaving our homes and even more terrified of interacting with delivery service. Enter the contacless delivery option. It really helped quell the anxiety of dealing with people coming to our home and gave us a break from cooking while also keeping our favorite restaurants in business. We broke our take out fast with a large cheese pizza, a large antipasto salad, and a 2 liter of diet coke (its all about balance, amiright?). The delivery was prompt and executed perfectly. Eating a salad felt like a dream after all the rice and potatoes we had been cooking at home. And pizza is pizza - its always good. We love Sam's- they have been a favorite in my family for as long as I can remember. They have catered my college grad party and my baby shower. Very professional. And of course - very delicious food. Let them fulfill your pizza cravings! Their penne a la vodka is delicious too!

Yelp
I have been coming here my entire existence. This has always been my staple go to, solid pizza shop. I have frequented ever since, I can remember & before Williamsburg was the place to be. This was just our local pizza shop where you could meet up with friends, grab a slice, catch-up, or come with family, sit down and have a pie. The same nostalgic feeling comes to mind every time I step foot in here although, the interior design has change to keep with the times. The same old faces among the new still, visit this place. Those that have moved away still return to grab a solid Brooklyn slice. The other day, I came and sat for a while. We grabbed some pasta which takes a little longer to make but it gives you time just to sit back, and relax as I did when I was a kid. I had the chicken penne in a creamy Pesto sauce. Oh so good, and al dente as it should be loaded with more chicken that I knew what to do with, not a complaint just letting you there is no skimping here, you get your money's worth and then some. Stop in for a slice, or pasta, either way you can not go wrong. It's Brooklyn!

Yelp
I love sals pizza. Their cheese is really good and the sauce they use is unreal as well. They also have a delicious vodka slice. I have seen people eat the chicken Francese and parm and it looks so good. My girlfriend and I make pizza once a year and we love using their dough and sauce. Customer service is always so great. Prices are good too.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Yum. Pesto slice was so nice and everyone in here is great. Really feels like New York. All good.
google avatar

Migdalia O.

Yelp
I like everything. However, my favorite is penne vodka. The pizza is delicious as well. Staff is great.

Yelp
Sal's pizzeria! What can I say? I've been going there since elementary school and still the best ! Even if it's not Sal there Anymore but same staff which is why it's still Sal's . Best Pizza Best Penne al vodka in the 11211/11206 Area! A Family place

Sophia B.

Yelp
pizza is amazing!!! thin crust and so good one of my favorite spots in the city. also the best people work there!
google avatar

Yelp
Grandma pizza squares were ok. The Crust should of been tastier. I was expecting better quality.

Oliver C.

Yelp
The pizza is good but a single slice is $6, which is ridiculous. Won't be back I'm afraid.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
This is actually my favorite pizza in New York. BROCOLLI rolls are to die for. Sauce is delicious. Black cherry soda . I lived in California and dreamt of Sals
google avatar

Jeric M.

Yelp
So this is my first time visiting New York and of course I wanted to have real New York pizza while I was visiting. I searched around for pizza spots and Sal's says they've been open since the 60's. The food had to be good for it be open for 50+ years. So my friends and I ordered one to go. The pizza was great and we were all impressed that they give fresh grated Parmesan. It could be typical thing for New York, but I'm from California and that never happens. The pizza was also made super fast. Way faster than the estimated time. Next time I visit Brooklyn, I will definitely have to pick another pizza up from here.

Yelp
This place holds fond childhood memories for me when I would visit my grandmother's house on the corner of this pizzeria. It would be a Sunday tradition after having meatballs and pasta to have the grand kids run around the corner and carry back everyone's orders of homemade Italian ices from here. There used to be a take-out window that we would try to reach with our grubby hands, but this place has been renovated some years ago and has lost it's old charm. These ices aren't just any old ices - they are not creamy like ice cream and not like shaved ice like a snow cone; they are the perfect balance of a great in between. My personal favorite is the chocolate ice, but my sister has been getting half chocolate, half cherry ice for years. My mom opts for the pineapple and cherry ice combo. Everything is fresh and made on the spot and is a great location for foot traffic from the G and L trains. Hop on and see why this is a great step above your usual joint!

Yelp
Sal's is my favooooorite pizza in brooklyn! Dont tell my friends at Millys or Anna Maria Pizzeria though, they are also good and special in their own way but I swear Sal's is the best! I have tried everything and is one surprise after the other. Love how I can come here and even have a glass of wine if I'm feeling like eating pasta. Sal's been there for me through all of my ups and downs LOVE YOU GUYS. Also, a very good thing to have the boys right up front, feels trustworthy. This place is never going out of business! At least not while I'm here!!! :D
google avatar

Chunjai K.

Yelp
Delicious pizza at night that many places around already closed. I was looking for some place to eat around 10:25PM and I saw they are still open. I ordered the regular slice and Manhattan special (coffee soda) I sat next to the window that open and look out wondering something special about this place because they have been there since 1967.
google avatar

Cassandra Melissa M.

Yelp
I'm a total pizza head and this one is definitely a great pizzeria!! Their garlic knots are actual knots. Therefore they're small, compact with flavor and thoroughly baked!! The pizza was amazing too!! (Check the pics out for a visual) Would definitely return!!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Great pizza! Their Buffalo chicken(when it's fresh) is some of the best I've had. They have a wide selection of beers and don't forget to try their veggie rolls.
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
I had higher expectations, and i'm not sure why. It was super clean, friendly staff, pizza looked good. But unfortunately the $5 slice I had was NOT worth it. Would I go back, probably not, but, I am not saying that this place is bad, I just don't think I found the right combination of things.
google avatar

Debora C.

Yelp
It's the corner pizza joint that quickly and efficiently serves pizzas and salads up for you. If you have some extra time to spare, their entrees and heroes are good too. There are a decent number of tables and seats should you and your family or friends decide to dine in. My friends and I have gotten pizza slices of every variety known to man--plain, chicken, pepperoni, chicken ranch, mushroom, or pesto. I appreciate that Sal's has vegetarian options, including salads, veggie entrees, or pasta. It would be useful if their menu would indicate what ingredients are in their salads though because how is anyone supposed to know what's in a "tossed" salad or a "mixed green" salad? If you order pickup/delivery, it seems that any entree order comes with a bit of white loaf bread. Solid classic NYC pizza.

Maria G.

Yelp
Old slices that look like they sat around all day. Awful crust, no flavor. Just BAD. Walk up to Carmines a few blocks away.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Decided to have lunch here the other day and I can honestly say this place has some great pizza. Very fresh ingredients, nice staff and clean environment loved the food a lot.

Gabe R.

Yelp
Not a fan. They took a very long time with my order, and their garlic knots are just okay. Also, they don't automatically include dipping sauce with the knots but charge extra for it. This is the first pizzeria I've been to in all of New York that doesn't automatically include dipping sauce with their garlic knots. Overall, it's an adequate pizzeria, but you might as well just go to Rosa's a block away and get the same thing for a comparable price.

Carolyn P.

Yelp
I moved out to Western NJ about 10 years ago and haven't had a decent slice since. It's either too doughy, the cheese is too thick or too cheap, the crust can't stand up to the job, or it's just undercooked. When I was in Brooklyn for a funeral across the street, I stopped to grab a slice before making the 1.5 hour trek home and I have to say - Sal's did not disappoint. We got a pesto slice, grandmas, Buffalo chicken, and a few plain. So delicious, the crust was perfect, and the flavor was spot on with what I was missing the last 10 years. Will absolutely be back!!
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
Toddler and hungry mamma approved! Can't believe I've never been here for pizza. Had three slices of cheese pizza. They sliced it up perfectly for my girls.
google avatar

Craig G.

Yelp
This may be the best New York style pizza I've had in Brooklyn. The slice is thick, without being too heavy, and covered with just enough slightly sharp cheese. Sure, there's a fair amount of grease on the slice, but not enough to make it unbearable. The sauce is decent, but the real prize is the crust: soft, yeasty, and crisp. It's exactly what the crust on a New York style pizza should be. Recommended for Williamsburgers, but delivery can be a bit baffling

MK G.

Yelp
This some good ass food! Larger than expected portions for how cheap everything was. They got everything I needed in my Togo order right. It was delicious, quick, cheap, local.
google avatar

Julian C.

Yelp
By far my girlfriend and my favorite Italian place. The pasta dishes are amazing. Penne a la vodka w/ chicken is out of control. We order it at least once a week! Pizza is excellent and they do not skimp on the toppings. Can't forget about the garlic bread!! The first time we ordered it we didn't expect the cheese and sauce on it but we could not have been more satisfied. Unfortunately no place is perfect. As a wing lover I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I didn't warn my fellow wing lovers; the wings are a bust. They're soooo soggy, I've never had soggy wings like these. I thought maybe it was a fluke. How could a place so great have such terrible wings. So I ordered a second time a couple months down the road.. same result. I will continue to order of course because everything else is just too good. I'll just have to steer clear of the wings ‍

Stefanie F.

Yelp
I found this pizzeria because of my job. I think they have the best grilled chicken Caesar salad ever! The chicken is always a good thin sliced cutlet (I hate veins and fat and chunky pieces of chicken) . The dressing is delicious and they put the perfect amount. I sometimes ask for extra on the side and most of the time don't even need it, but I do end up dipping my bread in it. croutons and lettuce just oh can't forget the great customer service!

Yelp
Mimmo made me a SPECIAL roll... shrimp with red peppers with red onions at it go , when I arrived home I went at it savoring to the fullest... AWESOME job Mimmo !!! I've been eating here from 1982 and enjoyed all of his cuisine.. everything on the menu is TOPS !!!! Thank you Mimmo !!!
