Santo Cielo, perched atop Hotel Indigo, offers a dining experience as elevated as its location. With a gorgeous view of the downtown Naperville skyline, it's a spot where the ambiance almost makes you forget about the hiccups in your meal. Almost.
Let's start with the good: the openness of the restaurant, coupled with the panoramic views, sets the stage for a delightful evening. It's a great spot for a date night or a laid-back gathering with friends. Plus, who doesn't love feeling on top of the world while sipping a cocktail?
Speaking of cocktails, my wife swears by their espresso martini...or at least she did until our last visit. This time, it arrived with dark rum instead of vodka, which threw her taste buds for a loop. It wasn't bad, just not the same. Kind of like expecting a text from your best friend and getting one from your boss instead. It gets the job done, but where's the fun?
We weren't super hungry, but we thought we'd try the Caesar salad. Well, let's just say, it was Caesar-ish. Word on the street (okay, the waiter) is that they had to tweak the recipe a bit. Unfortunately, the result was a salad that left us more puzzled than satisfied.
Then came the fries. You know, fries can be a saving grace, a universal comfort food. But these were paired with an aioli that was watery enough to consider a career in soup. I'm no chef, but I'm pretty sure aioli is supposed to have the consistency of, well, aioli.
In short, Santo Cielo's got the views, the vibes, and the potential, but a few of the dishes and drinks need to come back down to earth. Would I go back? Sure, but I might suggest they swap the Caesar salad for a skyline view and keep the rum out of my wife's martini.
