Best Restaurants to Try While Visiting Wilmington, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Wilmington native Sam Cahoon’s downtown restaurant offers what the website calls “local fare with Latin flair.” Formerly the executive chef at Ceviche’s, Cahoon’s menu includes an entire section dedicated to salsas, appetizers like BLT arepas and chicken tinga empanadas, and entrees like the caliente tuna, a blackened tuna filet served with cilantro-lime quinoa, pineapple salsa, oven-dried tomatoes, balsamic glaze, avocado, and pickled shallots. The lunch menu is heavy on tacos and tostadas, and the Sunday brunch is one of the most popular in town." - Matt Lardie

Food was very good and although the portions were not hugh neither were the prices. I think that the value was absolutely there. I went with some friends for brunch on a Sunday around 10:30 and had no wait when we arrived for a group of 5. It is a relatively small place inside. Food came out very quickly as well.

Google
We love finding spots like this! Friendly service and delicious authentic food made fresh. It's a small place but we are able to fit all 7 of us at a table comfortably. The art around the restaurant is beautiful. The vibe is very chill and laid back. They were playing some r&b songs, very chill💓. It's kid friendly, but there were no kids' menus. They were very accommodating though. I'd probably go here again on a date night without the children. The food was the bomb 💣 😋 I'll post pictures. I got the Yucaa fries and vegetarian toastada. I enjoyed everything.

Great food. Loved the goat cheese and sweet potato spread they refer to as a 'guacamole'. I was here three years ago with my wife and again last month with my father. Will vome back next time in town. Good cocktails.

Absolutely delicious!!! We had the blackened grouper special and it was like having food sex. Every bite was exquisite. Their sauces are mind blowing. This is our favorite restaurant in Wilmington.

Google
Great tiny restaurant with delicious authentic food. We travel about an hour, esp for Savorez. The food tastes so fresh and the combinations of flavors make the dishes a cut above and worth the trip. The restaurant can get busy since it only serves maybe 10 tables and bar counter seats, you may have a wait. Menu items can be adjusted in cases of dietary needs. GF, Vegetarian, Vegan can be accommodated. Four of us had lunch, averaging $18, we left fully satisfied and with a lil carry out box.

Everything was amazing! From the Tito’s Punch to the flan for dessert. Our server, Nolan, was very nice and attentive! The Tuna Tostada was the perfect, fresh appetizer. We got the Carnitas and “Scalexander the Great” specials- super cute name btw- and both were delicious. The ambience is very fun and unique. Can’t say enough good things about this place! We’ll definitely be back.

Google
We had such a great experience at Savorez! The food was such a work of art. The flavors were so spot on and so exciting. The staff was into SERVICE and EXPERIENCE. I was watching them interact with other customers and it was inspiring. As a restaurant owner myself I xan honestly say they know what they are doing and have a passion for it.

My wife and I tried Savorez based on our children’s recommendation. They would drive from Ocean Isle Beach to eat here so we thought we’d give it a try! We arrived around 5:10 pm and they were already almost full. We actually got the last table for two! Wow this place’s atmosphere is funky and cool! Not a large space but it didn’t feel cramped. We decided to start with the sweet potato and goat cheese guacamole! It was unique and delicious. Our entree’ of blackened grouper we split and pay a touch more to have an abundance of sides/compliments of veggies, peaches, and a delicious sauce! Every mouthful burst with several different flavors and a touch of heat or spice. Great dish! Overall our first trip did not disappoint!

Yelp
This meal was the best i have had i a long time. I strongly recommend coming if you near. I got the breakfast of champions which i would strongly advise getting. Overall it was a great meal and even better service.

Yelp
This was THE BEST FOOD we've ever had in Wilmington! Wow! After 6am flights and running around, I was in need of some Latin comfort food to make me feel like home (Miami). Savorez was a lot more "Comforting" than we ever expected. If they opened one in South Miami, We would make it our "go to!". We will ALWAYS come here when we visit family! Try the blackened drum fish dish! The coconut white rice! The sancocho!!! Omg! I'm going back tomorrow! Oh and the margaritas!!!!! Lawd! Be still my heart!

Yelp
If someone said this was the best restaurant in town, I'd believe them. This was also the best meal we've had in a while. My family ordered one of each special and I got the vegan rellenos. The flavor profile of each dish was delicious and some of us went on a trip with the dish. My sister (not a critic, just a foodie) said it deserves a Michelin star. The caliber of this restaurant's menu alone is impressive, with some fun dish names like Scallapagos and Super Mah-Hio. The service was great. Getting there at 4:30pm was perfect as we saw a line of people out the door upon leaving at 6pm. The ambience was nice, with some light holiday tunes. The artwork and bright red walls brought in the Latin American flair.

Yelp
I absolutely cannot get enough of this adorable, corner restaurant in my neighborhood. If you are looking for the freshest to death empanadas you have found your spot! The chicken and goat cheese is an absolute slapper in the face of deliciousness. Normally I don't order extra salsas, but the one here are definitely worth it! Get the salsa flight, the pineapple one will send you. The tacos always hit and with eclectic combos like Gruyère and chimichurri together with the steak are my favorite. Staff is always upbeat and friendly and when I was unsure of what I wanted to drink, they had this delicious cranberry mule like drink that hit the spot. Do t ever forget to order the yucca frites. Seriously, they go with everything and are amazing. Bonus points to always having fresh water out for canine passes by and a cooler in the summer for anyone to grab cold water. This is local at its best.

Yelp
Another 5-star lunch experience! Caliente tuna tacos, check Pompano taco special, check My mom and I got two orders of different fish tacos had one of each. The caliente tuna is on their lunch menu and is consistently amazing. When we dined yesterday, the pompano taco special took the prize though--it was superb. I love how the chefs put the pickled cabbage and various in-season fruits in their tacos. The tuna tacos had pineapple while pompano had peaches. Today, we got the chocolate chile flan for the first time, and it did not disappoint! I definitely recommend this dessert if you like chocolate mousse!

Yelp
It's tough to get in sometimes since they don't take reservations, but the food is outstanding. We love the cozy atmosphere!

Yelp
Savorez continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Wilmington! I went to dinner with two girlfriends, and we decided to order a bunch of items and share. We enjoyed the sweet potato guac, the langousta and coco, the BLT arepas, the chorizo and goat cheese empanadas, and the smoked tuna and gruyere empanadas. Everything was absolutely fabulous!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite meals ever. Savorez is small and intimate with food and drinks that pack huge flavor. The cocktail I ordered was creative and fresh - each menu item seemed to be filled with as many flavors as possible, but it completely works. My favorite things about the scallopagos islands were of course the pan seared scallops, the blueberry, sweet potato puree, grilled peaches, blackberry salsa, and orange marmalade. I finished the entire thing. Service was friendly - I dined at the bar and enjoyed seeing the drinks being made and the beautifully plated dishes coming from the window. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Interior: Cozy seating area for 25-30, including the bar, with locally produced art dresses the vibrant red walls. Warm conversational atmosphere with a menagerie of music piping in. Cuisine: Flavor packed spice-loaded rubs on the jerk chicken unfolded on my senses with complex notes of smoke coming through the tender meat which sits atop a bed of bean/rice/pineapple chowder with cream drizzled about. The blackened crust of the tuna also doesn't disappoint. Seared medium was done correctly. Fork tender fresh fish! The use of sweet n savory with a hint of sour on the quinoa side was clutch. We closed out with a chocolate flan that was accentuated by a scoop of ganache with epic richness and chunks of Mexican praline littering the top. The flan was wrapped in a raspberry syrup. No booze to rate one this meal, sorry. Maybe next time.

Yelp
Consistently some of the best food in town. Great Latin inspired flavors and creative combinations. Always fun place with good service. Definitely a go-to place in Wilmington. Never disappoints.

Yelp
Consistently delicious! Great service and the best margaritas in Wilmington. The specials are always different from their regular menu, but the regular menu is always delicious!

Yelp
Had a great birthday dinner with family here! It's a small restaurant but feels like very homey spot tucked in downtown Wilmington. All the food is extremely fresh and flavorful. The tuna ceviche was my favorite and the quality was top notch. The blend of flavors in every dish creates for some unique combinations that really blew me away. Lots of fruit forward-ness in the dishes helped to make the food less heavy and more refreshing. Service was great and staff were very friendly. The presentation on all of the dishes was beautiful and so appealing. My only (slight) negative is that we went around 6pm in the middle of summer and it was HOT in the restaurant - it seemed like everyone was sweating just being in there. I would definitely recommend Savorez to anyone looking for some exciting food options.
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
Pros: The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Very friendly staff. Several good vegan options. Cons (which aren't deal breakers, it's just good to know in advance): there's going to be a long wait. We waited a little over an hour when we arrived at 6 PM. When we left at 8:30, there was still a 30 minute wait. The restaurant is quite small, so it can't accommodate a lot of guests. The dishes are individually and attentively prepared and you don't want to rush through them. Tables are fairly close together, and it does get warm during the heat of the day. Plan to take your time, enjoy your meal, and don't go there starving, and you will have a beautiful dinner. Food was definitely worth the wait!

Ann T.

Yelp
Very misleading menu post on this site. We were there last week and it's a different menu with limited choices to pick from unless you want to go with the "Other"menu at 39.99 a plate. I had the jerk chicken. So many different spices and sauces on the plate it made it difficult to enjoy. Why is there horseradish on that plate is beyond me. ‍ Never seen carne asada served rare in my entire life. Perhaps they should ask customers how they like their meat cooked. Don't bother with the menu posted on yelp. It's not the same. Enjoy.

Yelp
Amazing food, cute and small place- everything we had was great! We went for lunch and heard they have a great dinner menu as well. Definitely a must on your list!

Yelp
Savorez takes a Latin-meets-local concept and executes it to perfection. It's a smallish space and tables may be hard to come by, but there will likely be room at the bar. Red walls and vivid artwork give Savorez a lively aesthetic. The menu here holds lots of appeal, offering everything from salsas and dips to empanadas and tapas to full-sized entrees. The fusionist tendencies come across clearly in dishes like shrimp n grits (a Southern classic accented with chorizo and jalapeno lime) and arroz con pollo (dressed up with jerk chicken, coconut rice, and pickled shallots). My wife and I started with a sweet potato and black bean empanada, followed that up with a vegan rellenos and scallop-tastic (one of the daily specials), and ended with a chocolate chile flan. Everything was fantastic. We were looking forward to the empanada's pineapple salsa, and it didn't disappoint, but the accompanying chimichurri sauce was better than it had any right to be. The entrees were artfully plated and well-balanced. The scallop-tastic boasted perfectly cooked scallops and a strawberry salsa that, on its own, would have been too sweet. However, it paired nicely with charred tomatoes and greens. The flan likewise offered a raspberry gastrique to temper the heat. Service was attentive, and prices here were reasonable for the quality of the food. Expect to pay in the $20s for most entrees. Thanks to its bold flavors and excellent execution, Savorez made for a delicious dinner. Try it the next time you are out Wilmington way.

Yelp
This place is small. They don't take reservations. We checked in at 515, was told a 1 -1.5 hr wait. It was 2.5 hr wait. They have a bench outside but you can not take your drink out there to wait. Our group of six waited in the middle of the floor. Tried hard to stay out of the way. We gravitated to the bar after a bit where we had drinks and chips and salsa. The bean bacon was everyone's favorite. I had the vegan rellono, and it was good. Spicy. Hubby had the pork, but it was overcooked. The empanadas seemed to be a hit for those who got them. It's rare to find a place that has more than just on GF item when it comes to dessert. All were creamy custard types. Hubby had chocolate flan. Not very chocolatey, the ganache ontop was good- he didn't finish it. I had a pineapple brulee, meh, the pineapple just didn't seem right for it. The drinks were good. Staff was friendly and understanding of people standing in the middle of the floor. I think reservations would be a good idea Or getting a permit to have a roped off area so people can wait outside with drinks. I appreciate the menu and all it offered Vegan GF Flavor

Yelp
Came from it of town to this small , unassuming, and well decorated and colorful space based solely off of other Yelp recommendations. The wait staff is efficient and friendly, even at capacity and the food was better than I hoped. I had the tuna seared tacos and two bean salad, paired with The OG margarita. Would definitely return to try more items on the menu.

Yelp
Savorez is now officially my favorite food in Wilmington, NC! I love the look and feel of the restaurant, casual with character. Service was great. We had the salsa trio and dip trio, chicken tinga and sweet potato/black bean and goat cheese empanadas and all were delicious. Flounder tacos are out of this world and friend said steak tacos were equally as good. Highly recommend the coconut rice and the slaw!!! A+++++

Yelp
Looking for cuisine with a Latin flair in downtown Wilmington? Head to this local fave- Savorez. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in an intimate ,casual setting with great service. On our plates *Super Grouper Tacos * Guacamole * Empanadas ( chicken tinga, sweet potato & black bean) *Churrasco Taco * Sides ( Maduros, coconut rice) . Everything was so delicious! The crafted cocktails are made using fresh ingredients and all the food was full of flavor. Savorez is a must try for a delicious dining option in Wilmington, NC. Free parking on the street was available and it was easy to find. Just keep in mind the menu may have different specials, and operating hours differ. So check website or call ahead before going.

Yelp
As a former chef, I can attest that the food here is excellent. They are not checking boxes. The flavor factor is ON POINT! From the appetizers to dessert. And our server was SUPER!

Heather B.

Yelp
Food was delicious and light. The drinks had fresh muddled berries in them. I would definitely go back

Miles D.

Yelp
Burnt chips. Pineapple salsa that was just cut up pineapple core. Super inedibly greasy shrimp and grits for 2 for $75. Gave my leftovers to the dog and heading to another restaurant to actually eat edible food.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a gem! Quaint, top notch restaurant. Servers were attentive and the food was unbelievable! Best food we ate while visiting Wilmington, NC. Forget the riverside restaurants, you can just do the Riverwalk and then head here. This was one of the best meals we ever had. Well done!

Yelp
The best jalapeño cilantro margarita I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. It needs to be added to the menu it was Phenomenal!! The tuna caliente 10/10 and the shrimp n grits were so good! I'm shocked at how good this place is! Also has the verde salsa which was also amazing! You have to try this place! You won't regret it!! You know it's good when your last bite is as good as the first!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't usually post reviews that often, but holy cow, that breakfast of champions was delicious. Great service, very friendly. 10/10 will be back

Yelp
Wonderful....amazing and unexpected flavor combinations! Best dinner hands down in the last 10 years!

Yelp
The family and I had a good lunch. This is a nice and cozy restaurant with a warm service and good food. We like certain dishes more than others. We ordered the chorizo empanada (just okay) and the smoked tuna empanada (delicious) to start. Then we ordered the Pollo Loco Tostada, Gato's Taco (great flavors), Churrasco Taco (good, but I was not fond of the sauce) and Jerk Shrimp Tostada (great flavors) and Yuca Frita (delicious) and Coconut Rice (not too flavorful). The drinks were great. They have a great cocktail menu. Overall we had a good lunch. I will back to try the dinner menu.

John R.

Yelp
We were in town for a short weekend visiting and received a recommendation to this restaurant from someone we met here. Wow, what a great little place to have a meal. Great service, friendly staff, and the food and drinks were exceptional. The flavors in the food were quite amazing.

Yelp
My husband and I planned to make a stop in Wilmington on our way home from a trip to Oak Island. His favorite brewery is here so we decided to find some delicious lunch as well. Savorez sounded right up our alley and when we walked in it had a Yelp "Top Places to Eat" award on the hostess stand, good start! While a smaller place, it had a great vibe. Fun artwork to look at and other decor that embraces its Latin flair. A mixture of tables and bar seating was available, but went for a high too by the window. We started with the Platos de Casa for an appetizer to sample all three of their yummy sounding dips to be enjoyed with their corn tortilla chips. The dips didn't just sound yummy, they tasted it too. The bacon-black bean dip was served warm and I thought the bacon addition was a nice touch on this classic dip. Their Guacamole was fresh and chunky style, which is how I prefer it. The stand out was the sweet potato- goat cheese "guacamole". Very creamy and not a combination of flavors I had ever had before, but will again. Much on the menu sounded great, but I got pulled into the lunch special of the Super Ma-Hio tacos. Which were jerk spiced mahi with a chipotle-coconut aioli, avocado, grape tomato salsa, and pickled cabbage. They were so good. The presentation was nice and colorful and those two corn tortillas were filled with these ingredients. The mahi had a nice hit of heat from the jerk seasoning, and was also super flaky and juicy. Everything on that taco just sang well together. The entree came with a side and I got their yuka frites. You got more than needed, as I was already pretty stuffed. They were nicely fried and good when dipper in the aioli provided. Our waitress was very attentive and provided great service. Savorez was delicious and fun, we were very satisfied with our lunch stop. We will be back next time we are in Wilmington.

Yelp
This was our second time at Savorez and we were very impressed agaThe chef is extremely talented. The food is very fresh and prepared so creatively. Every dish has so many different levels. It's fun to discover something different with each bite! The staff is super friendly, the bartender is very talented, and the decor really cool. We love this place! Highly recommend.

Yelp
One of the easiest 5-star reviews I've written. It's a tiny restaurant, but we lucked out with two at the bar just before the dinner rush. Food was so good (Tuna Caliente, lobster ceviche, jerk chicken) that after the Burning Spear concert at the Brooklyn Arts we stopped back by for another meal and cocktails! They are open until 10 and were happy to seat us. Great conversation with bartender Brooke and general manager Marie who was kind enough to share some of her deep knowledge about spirts.
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
¡Delicioso! Fresh tuna ceviche. Yummy chorizo & goat cheese empanadas. Tasty sweet plantains, black beans, salsa, & avocado over coconut rice. Solterita salad sauce made the sweet potato, roast corn, white beans, avocado, queso fresco, etc., pop. Sancocho soup could've used a bit of salt but still delicious. Passion fruit crème brûlée to die for. A cozy, cool, interior. Great service. We'll be back!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Fantastic place. Fresh, delicious, well thought out food. It was just what I was looking for. Wonderful place for a date and good conversation. Kenzie (our waitress) was so lovely and funny! Recommend the lobster ceviche and the scallops special!

Yelp
Great food and quick service - last Minute stop enjoyed by all, especially the empanadas and arrepas

Yelp
Definitely one of the better dining spots downtown, this small restaurant (converted service station?) tucked just off of Front St. has equal parts charm, quirk, and personality. Wait times can be long, but on our first trip we lucked into a couple empty bar seats. The standard menu is Latin with flair (with nightly specials) and the cocktail and wine/beer selections are varied enough to suit most anyone. I had the house Margarita. My daughter went with the Pineapple Jalapeño version. Both were made with fresh ingredients (not bottled sour mix) and rivaled the ones I make at home. We ordered an appetizer of chips with fresh pineapple salsa and were both impressed with how good it was. For our main meal, I went with Empanadas and a side of Black Bean soup. My daughter opted for the Vegan Chile Relleno (using Quinoa as the main stuffing ingredient). We could not have been happier with the quantity and quality of our meal. The Empanada crust was perfectly cooked and the filling was tender and perfectly seasoned. The Black Bean soup was just a tick spicier than I would like, but still delicious. My daughter loved her dish and it consisted of quite possibly the largest Chile Pepper I've ever seen, leaving her with a rather large portion to take home. Our server was just the right amount of attentive in between her bartending duties. Sitting at the bar also afforded us a glimpse of every plate placed in the window for server pickups and everything looked delicious. Just a great overall dining experience. Savorez gets my highest recommendation, already looking forward to a return trip.

Yelp
Dinner or brunch - you won't be disappointed. The wait can be tough, it's not a huge place so the seating is limited but that tells you it's a great place to eat. Is it worth the wait? Are you local? Maybe, come back again when it's not so busy. Visiting? Yes, you should definitely wait. It will be worth it. Everything on the menu is delicious. I always like to try the specials since they're you know, special. I've been for brunch a few times and it's fabulous. The flavors are so flavorful (am I cliche?). The dishes are always colorful too. We've had thad the 'French toast' and it's HUGE. It's definitely something you share. My husband always gets the Huevos Rancheros, he tries to get something different but goes back to his tried and true. I've always gotten the scallop special and WOW. They're so tender and cooked perfectly. 100% AMAZING brunch downtown. 10/10.

Yelp
Truly one of my favorite restaurants OF ALL TIME. 5+ Stars This place has covered all it's bases. Cute, warm, cozy interior. Excellent, creative chef who meticulously thinks of all his dishes carefully, even naming them with care. And this goes for all of the craft cocktails ( See sample menus) Located on a corner in the trendier downtown river walk area, with approx 12 private parking spots, there is plenty of street parking. Super friendly staff \ great prices for very fresh ingredients and good portions ( = great value!) Only thing I am upset about is that I live in NJ and cannot eat here on a regular basis!! Savorez is a place that gives a true foodie renewed faith in the culinary world. This industry is tired with its expensive, small portion, Real Housewives haunts with a view ( or another Chipotle in a strip mall.) THE FOOD ( we tried the below, it was all superb, plated beautifully, bursting with various flavors that accented each other) They had an option similar to guacamole for their perfect chips: a dip made of sweet potato and goat cheese. AMAZING! The Chicken Tinga Empanada w\ pickled shallots, cilantro, and a citrus sour cream...WOW! The Sweet Potato-black bean empanada w\ pineapple salsa & chimichurri sauce... WHAT?! if you like soup. Try the Sancocho. Every Hispanic country makes their own version ( Dominican Rep, Cuba, Puerto Rico). This version with chicken, sweet potato, carrots, green plantains in a cilantro broth with coconut rice was warm and delish. THE MAINS Carne Con Ancho for the steak lover was a Homerun. A special super tender cut called the teres major is rubbed with an ancho chile powder, sauteed with arugula, roast grape tomatoes, carmeled onion, gruyere cheese in an ancho balsamic sauce served with a crispy arepa. A lot going on here and it all melds into a special bite every time...BRAVO! the Tres Cochinitos is a grilled pork chop over a black bean- bacon puree, warm pork belly, arugula and pickled root veggies.... MORE PLEASE! After this wonderful meal (and a whole bunch of their fantastic craft cocktails, we had to pass on their amazing dessert list. I am already trying to figure out my next trip to Wilmington and to Savorez. If you are a Foodie ( or want to be), this is a place to take notes.

Max V.

Yelp
Wow, fabulous dining experience. Food was impeccable. Wait staff wonderful. If I was a local I'd make Savorez a regular go to!

Yelp
Had the lobster ceviche and a scallops special. Beautiful presentation and imaginative combinations of flavors.

Yelp
What a gem of a place. It's tiny so you will likely have to wait. We arrived at 515 and had about a 40 min wait but we just walked down a couple blocks and grabbed a cocktail. We started with salsa verde and chips. They were both great. I had a black bean and sweet potato empanada and a chorizo and goat cheese as well. I loved the former but wasn't super thrilled about the chorizo, it was just the cinnamon like spice isnt for me. My husband had the pork dish and loved it. He said it was both mildly sweet but then tangy. I was super excited to get the passion fruit creme brûlée. I miss passion fruit since I moved back from Hawaii. It did not disappoint. My slide has the chocolate flan and are every speck. This was a great change of pace , the interior is interesting to look at and the service and food were worth waiting.

Pamela W.

Yelp
What a wonderfully different restaurant! The food is inventive, the service is warm and attentive, and the room itself is comfortable. I've been to Savorez over a dozen times and it never fails to excel. One warning: Savorez does not take reservations and the best time to get a table is 5pm; otherwise, expect a wait of 20-30 minutes at their small, and frequently crowded, bar.
google avatar

Colleen N.

Yelp
We had an amazing lunch at Savorez. We arrived when they opened at 11:30 and by the time we left, there were people waiting for a table. All of the staff were inviting and helpful. We had the black bean dip and lobster ceviche for appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. I can't recommend the lobster ceviche more. I could have eaten three of them. My aunt had the soup and said all of the flavors were fresh and clean. My uncle also raved about the lunch salad. My boyfriend had the drum taco special and the ingredients really complimented the fish. I had the steak tacos and they were fantastic. If you like fried plantains, get the maduros as your side. They were so good!! We can't wait to eat here again the next time we are visiting our aunt and uncle in Wilmington!!

Paul M.

Yelp
The food here is inventive and delicious. We recently had the smoked tuna empanadas - excellent. Soft shell crab and blackened Mahi specials. Also excellent. Very small, only seats 30. It has a small bar with great cocktails. Go early or late.

Yelp
I enjoyed one of the best meals I've had in a very long time at Savorez last night. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our experience. We started with the empanadas appetizer, split as one sweet potato and black bean, one chorizo and goat cheese. The sweet potato and goat cheese was presented with a side of black beans while the chorizo had a green salsa that had some mild and flavorful heat. For drinks I ordered an old fashioned, which was a good, solid drink but just a little heavy on the ice. The cocktail menu was eclectic and varied and all looked very good. Dinner was the real star of the show. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits from their regular menu and I ordered the black drum. There are no words adequate enough to express how amazing my meal was. The fish was prepared almost like a barbecue sauce but not quite. It was sweet, Smokey, and luscious. The fish was accompanied by potato cubes, wilted greens, and a whipped mash. Top that off with a berry sauce. Omg and there was pineapple in it too. Take all those flavors, and it was truly amazing. I truly wish I had take a photo of the menu because clearly my review doesn't do this dish justice. Here's a photo. Just note that they don't take reservations, it's a small place, and it's popular. If you can get in go ahead and do it. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Four of us went here on a Tuesday night, not realizing that it's half price night for wine. It's a good thing we arrived early because we got the last table for four. If I have any complaints about this place it's that it's too small. They could quite literally triple their size and they still wouldn't have enough space, but that's because the food is amazing! We each had a different dish, but not before trying their guacamole and salsa sampler, which were all excellent. I'm a guac snob, being known for making some of the best this side of the Mississippi (and probably the other side too), but savorez clearly knows what they're doing with their avocados. I got the trout, my husband the chicken, our friends the pork and mahi mahi. A quick glance would have you think they were burnt, but nope, just well charred and filled with flavor. Each dish was treated with care, making sure the sides were not just plated nicely, but complimented the main protein. I'm editing this post because I completely forgot to talk about the dessert, which was a special and was called bread pudding with coconut ice cream. It was the ice cream that sold me, because I love it on and with almost anything. Sorry to say this was a huge FAIL. Nothing about this dish resembled bread pudding, but more like a stiff gel like concoction that was dry and uninspired. The ice cream was ok, but not as creamy as I expected. This dish almost convinced me to give them four stars instead of five. All I can say is thank goodness it's not in their regular menu. Savorez is one of Wilmington's stand outs, with a menu that reflects a chef who is passionate about his craft. You can't fake this folks.

Yelp
Wilmington is such a super cute little town. We were only stopping there briefly, but it didn't stop us from taking the bikes out and riding around. But we were also hungry and Savorez was on our "list", so... Overall, maybe a little dissapointed based on the hype? The best things we had were the empanadas. They were excellent. Also, the fish tacos weren't too shabby. But the worst thing we had was the carnitas. So much stuff added you couldn't even taste the pork. A clear "miss" for us. But hey, check them out... opinions vary.

Yelp
I have celiac disease and am VERY reactive to gluten so my choice of restaurants is almost zero. if I don't feel safe I just leave. when I told the waitress I am "allergic" she immediately asked if it was celiacs. wow!!! most people have no idea what it is even if I tell them which is why I say it's an allergy even though it's actually a super agonizing disease. She told me the fryers are shared even before I asked and she walked us through the menu on what could and couldn't be made gluten free. I was able to have a delicious appetizer, entree and dessert. I was disappointed the quinoa fried fish was made in the same fryer but was so thankful she was forthcoming telling me! staff went above and beyond to accommodate. they even brought me toasted tortillas for the dip because I couldn't do the chips. Four hours later is typically when I have a reaction. No reaction! It wasn't pricy for me because I will pay any amount for safe food. They didn't even charge extra for their trouble. Restaurant was crowded and cozy.

Yelp
Servers were very friendly and checked in on us frequently! Food was outstanding. BLT arepas with the bacon jam was very tasty. My carne con ancho was fabulous. Will be back one day!
