The Best Road Trip-Worthy Restaurants Outside New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Farm-to-table and Southern-style meat and three lunches usually don’t intersect. Which is exactly why Scratch Farm Kitchen in Lafayette deserves a visit. Inspired by memories of working on her grandfather’s farm, chef-owner Jamie Harson takes pride in showcasing locally grown produce in any way possible. She sources from Louisiana and Mississippi farmers, opting to make her own condiments, cure her own meats, pickle her own vegetables — anything she and her team can’t manage to craft in-house, they buy from local makers. Meat-forward dishes are accompanied by vegetable-rich and even vegan plates that ensure everyone feels welcome." - Sarah Bisacca

This Is the Ultimate Destination for Cajun and Creole Cuisine

"Just like the name sounds, this is the spot that works hard to support local farmers and growers, bringing the freshest ingredients to the plate. “I love their coffee and general la veillée vibe, which is a Louisiana French saying we have in Cajun Country for ‘evening porch visits,’ something historically that used to be super common for families and neighbors to do," says Broussard." - Anne Roderique-Jones

The Best Restaurants in Lafayette, Louisiana, aka Cajun Country | Eater New Orleans

"For a late-morning snack I visit Scratch Farm Kitchen, a farm-to-table cafe downtown where I often share a Pretty Plate (pick a protein like smoked tofu, eggs, or chicken and enjoy seasonal sides that might include limas, broccoli salad, grilled zucchini, or oyster mushrooms), or just sit with a Vietnamese coffee and a muffin and soak up the artsy vibes." - Beth D’Addono

A farmer-run kitchen focused on local produce and from-scratch cooking, now in a larger mid‑city space across from Moncus Park. Covered by The Advocate, it’s a bright stop for seasonal breakfast, lunch, and baked goods.

Absolutely loved this place! Stopped here to grab some early dinner on our way out of Lafayette. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is incredible! It’s a pop of beauty in that location. Food is phenomenal! Service is 10/10. We ordered the Hash Bowl & a burger. It was delicious. I live 2 hours away from Lafayette and I’m already planning to go back soon. Definitely give it a try if you’re in town.

I love everything about this place. This restaurant introduced me to beet ketchup. Like whhhaaaattt??? So freaking good… The interior is amazing. Ben’s murals are so awesome!! it’s just a really cool spot and so refreshing that they have such an inclusive menu. It’s very easy to find vegetarian options here.

I’m going to start by saying that the ambience instantly steals the show when you walk in. Vibrant colors and beautiful plants made me feel so welcomed and excited to eat. I had breakfast here for the first time and everything was AMAZING! The service was A1, the Lavender Lemonade was super cute & tasty, the food was FRESH like best food I’ve had in Laffy, lastly I also had the Ginger Cookie it was to DIE FOR! So fresh, so moist, baked to perfection. Mid way through eating it was upset that I only purchased 1 lol Run don’t walk to Scratch you WILL NOT be disappointed!

Always fresh, and extra fresh farm to table flavors. One of our favorite, consistent spots! You can taste the difference. Beautifully plated meals each time! Awesome margaritas, and all the other delicious extras to take home! One of our favorite top FAVES in Lafayette. Amazing work they all do, thank you!!! Breakfast Burrito w/chicken.🙌

Very crowded, but tables inside and out. Menu is not that large, so I would’ve expected them to excel at the selection offered, but unfortunately this place fails to live up to the expectations and hype. Both burgers I ordered had a nice crispy crust and as a whole, the burger was a very complete sandwich with toppings included. Individually, the burger patties were over cooked and dry. I did not specify and they cooked it to well done by default, but if this is a farm to table place that prepares and grinds their own patties, I find it hard to believe their default cook would be well done instead of medium or medium rare, or even asking how I would like the burger cooked. Because they cooked the presumably 4oz patty like a smash burger, all it did was dry it out because a proper smash patty needs to be very thin so that you are not squeezing out all the juice from the burger. I probably wouldn’t go to this place again for a while until they fix these issues. The other food I tried like the wrap and grits, were okay but lacking in flavor and seasoning. Texture-wise everything was great. Lots of potential with a restaurant that uses high quality ingredients, but I will have to give this place another try in the future.

This is a very popular place and for good reason. The restaurant was full so it took a little while for the food to arrive. But that's also because they make things from scratch, hence the name! The food was delicious, good quality, very fresh and no "fillers" like french fries unless you ordered them as a side, but there were tons of offerings as sides to choose from. You order at the counter. When you go in, they give you a number and you take it to a table. The place is very colourfully and tastefully decorated which was a lot of fun. The three of us had a Bowl, a scratch burger and the dish called Scratch, with pulled pork. All delicious! You pour your own coffee and water at the sidebar, which was convenient. The lemonade and ice tea were also excellent.

Little place with a great concept. Farm to table so the menu changes depending on what is available. It’s a brunch menu with great options. I had the Scratch which was a biscuit piled with sausage , farm egg, Gouda, and blue berry jam. It came with a side and I chose the hash potatoes. Everything was very fresh and plenty of food to satisfy any appetite. I wouldn’t call the biscuit a classic biscuit but it wasn’t to heavy and was large enough to carry the sausage patty. The over easy egg was perfect and the yellow ran like gold when cut into and I loved the blueberry jam. Such a good compliment to the dish. The hash potatoes were a combination of well seasoned, crusty (from being grilled), and steamed. I’ve seen this before in many places but this was the best attempt I’ve seen. I ate them all! I washed all Of this down with their Lavender Hibiscus Lemonade. It was good but was a bit flowery for my taste. Next time, because I will be back, I will try the Lavender Lemonade without the hibiscus. Can’t wait to return and try something else! Update 6/28/25 Today had a fantastic ginger margarita with the Hash it Out with pork patty and bacon. Everything was very good. Not a fan of the stand in line and order then sit routine. Would prefer a waitress. Upscale breakfast should have upscale service, imho. Once you sit the staff is friendly and attentive. Just take my order! lol.
