Sebastiano's is a bright Sicilian deli in Sellwood, dishing out scrumptious muffulettas, fluffy focaccia, and dreamy cannoli, all in a cozy atmosphere.
"Head to this old-school Sicilian bakery and deli for heavily stacked sandwiches and cannoli. Try the shop’s take on the New Orleans muffuletta with mortadella, ham, salami, provolone, and mozzarella on a fennel seed muffuletta round, or the Tonno i Arugula with olive-poached tuna salad and olives on focaccia. Salads, creamy tomato soup, and cheesy focaccia rounds are available, too." - Paolo Bicchieri
"While the vast majority of Italian restaurants in Portland define themselves by their pastas, Sebastiano’s takes a different approach. This cafe and deli is all about Italian baked goods, especially its sandwiches served on fresh-baked focaccia. Options include a muffuletta with local meats or a vegetarian eggplant version, as well as sandwiches layered with oil-poached tuna or Sweetheart ham. It also offers salads, the city’s best cannoli, cakes, cookies, and pantry items like Calabrian chili garlic salt seasoning. The mini focaccio rounds make for a fun snack as well." - Eater Staff
"This family-owned Sicilian cafe recently left its Montavilla home, bringing its exceptional muffaletta sandwiches on house-made bread to the Sellwood area. But even more noteworthy are bakery offerings like candied-orange-and-chocolate cannoli with house-fried cannoli shells, petite boxes of Sicilian cookies, espresso brownies, and olive oil cake. Crowd favorites include the gluten-free pasticcini di mandorle, flourless chewy almond cookies with honey & candied citrus, and the seasonal cassata al forno, a moist and creamy cake filled with sweetened ricotta, chocolate chips, and orange zest." - Michelle Lopez, Janey Wong
"Dan and Elise Gold have moved their Sicilian deli Sebastiano’s from Montavilla to Sellwood. The couple opened Sebastiano’s in June 2020, slinging muffuletta sandwiches and slices of olive oil cake from their cheerful storefront. The new Sellwood space is triple the size of the original 690-square-foot deli, with 40 indoor seats and a courtyard patio. Also newly expanded are the deli’s hours — with daytime service running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., they’ve doubled. In the mornings, breakfast dishes including strata, ricotta and marmelatta toast, and egg and cheese on focaccia will be available until 11 a.m. Afternoon “aperitivo” hours will offer amari, negronis, and spritzes with antipasti and hot Silician doughnuts. A small market area stocks the brand’s olive oils, marmalades, and more." - Janey Wong
"Ken’s Artisan veteran and Sicilian American chef Elise Gold opened this tiny Italian market, bakery, and cafe in 2020, and it has since become a destination for Italian baked goods and sandwiches. A small, rotating menu includes chewy muffulettas, focaccia sandwiches, Nonna-style pizzas, and simple-but-impeccably balanced salads. Sweets from the oven include olive oil cake, almond cookies, and biscotti. Those who swing by the takeout window can also shop for pantry staples, like Sebastiano’s branded seasoning, marmalade, and other imported Sicilian specialties." - Janey Wong, Nathan Williams
