LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Naengmyun is a side dish at most KBBQ restaurants, but Seogwan in Koreatown makes it the main event. This casual spot from the people behind Yellow Cow in Gardena specializes in Pyeongyang-style naengmyun, or buckwheat noodles, served in an icy broth. They offer set combos where the cold noodles are paired with bulgogi, galbi, or mung bean pancakes, and if you want more meat, there’s pork and beef cuts you can cook on tabletop grills." - cathy park

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week: July 21 | Eater LA

"A well-regarded Pyongyang naengmyeon shop from Seoul quietly expanded to Southern California in partnership with Monica Kim, the chef and proprietor of Yellow Cow Barbecue in Gardena, taking over the former Magal BBQ on Eighth Street. The sleek but smoke-filled dining room showcases Seogwan’s elegant, fully organic U.S. buckwheat noodles served in the ethereal and subtle Pyongyang broth. The goldong naengmyeon is described as a drier set of tossed buckwheat noodles wrapped in a tight bun, topped with thin beef slices and surrounded by earthy banchan like seasoned mushrooms, sliced mu radish, and cucumbers; texture and nuttiness come from toasted perilla leaves and ground sesame seeds. Mix it all together for a satisfying precursor to top-notch tabletop barbecue, or enjoy it as a light lunch." - Eater Staff

If you’ve never tried North Korean-style noodles, this is your sign to change that. Correspondent Matthew Kang showed social video producer Sakura Hegarty (@cucumbrane) the best dishes at LA’s Seogwan by Yellow Cow — a spot that’s a combination of a lauded Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) shop hailing from Seoul, and a Korean barbecue restaurant. #lafood #losangeles #noodles #koreanfood

From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome—their warmth and attentiveness elevated the entire dining experience. The service was truly top-tier, striking that perfect balance between professionalism and heartfelt hospitality. Now, the food? Easily some of the best I’ve had in Koreatown. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor and authenticity. The banchan(side dishes) weren’t just good—they were on another level. Each bite felt like a celebration of Korean culinary tradition, with a modern touch that kept things exciting. This place has officially earned a spot on my go-to dinner list. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of the men

We had to wait a bit and the valet area was popping, but once inside the food came out quickly. The black pork was my fave! The server gave me a tip to eat the naengmyun noodles with vinegar splashed on top and not in the broth and it was even more delicious for me. Service was good although i could tell they were tired and busy. It’s two orders minimum for the meat and you can choose your own combo so it was kind of a lot for me and my friend, but perfect to just grill and take home!

Lucy took me to this restaurant called Seogwan, and it was absolutely amazing! The Matbagi naengmyeon was beyond words — so refreshing and perfectly balanced. And the pairing of mung bean pancake with yuzu rice wine was just heavenly. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Lucy, thanks for the treat — everything was so delicious! ❤️

Excellent food and excellent service. I highly recommend the Pyongyang Naengmyeon ($20.00) with marinated beef ribs ($65.00). Note that individual meat orders require minimum of 2 orders. All the side dishes tasted very homemade. Located in the old Magal BBQ location that closed down. Make reservations ahead if you are coming with a large group or else wait time will be long. Valet parking is available ($3.00). Free street parking is available as well but difficult to find.

The food was amazing! Every bite was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The presentation of each dish was also so beautiful! Highly recommend trying the fresh noodles. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and everything feels fresh and exciting.

Yo, this isn't a paid endorsement. know that these folks here have class, etiquette and thee most pleasant customer service in town. The owner takes pride in seeing folks cheery and will fed. The host, waitress & WAITER Legend, name starts w/ a "H" - He was great with explaining and presenting optimal options for entrees. The owner stopped by and greeted us. She is A1! Thanks, everyone! Very, very clean and best ingredients used.

Since the weather was hot today, they kindly offered me some refreshing barley tea while I waited. Finally, I had the chance to try Pyeongyang naengmyeon here in the U.S.—what a moment! The broth was endlessly refillable, perfectly chilled, and the buckwheat noodles had that distinct, slightly coarse texture that I love. Back in Korea, I was a huge fan of authentic Pyeongyang naengmyeon restaurants, so just being able to enjoy it here feels like such a blessing. The owner and staff were incredibly kind, and for a moment, it truly felt like soul food to me. The cold boiled pork and side dishes were also delicious. Honestly, I envy people who live in L.A. and can have this anytime. Wishing the restaurant great success!

Went shortly after opening and waited for about 45min to get a seat. I like the modern decor of the restaurant. It gave it a clean feeling. They had several servers so we were always attended to. The meat and banchan was all very delicious…no complaints. The Naengmyeon was ok…a bit bland for me and for what it is a bit pricey. Overall a solid new restaurant to enjoy Korean food.

Yelp
Came here for lunch at around 2:00pm this past Monday. We were in the mood for some cold noodles and I found this place on Yelp. Their cold noodles looked enticing. There's a parking lot in the back. The restaurant is modern and has a nice aesthetic. We ordered the Pyongyang Naengmyeon and Goldong Naengmyeon. Both were good. I mainly ate the Goldong but I did take a few sips of the Pyongyang broth. It was refreshing and mild in flavor. I don't know if I've ever had dry naengmyeon before this, but I really enjoyed the Goldong. It had a variety of toppings and when mixed together, the dish was creamy, refreshing, and flavorful. All of the toppings went well together. We also really liked the banchan here. We liked all of them, and they were all seasoned well. However, one particularly stood out to us and it was the dried pollock. It was chewy, had a mild kick to it, and very yummy! Staff was very nice. No complaints.

Yelp
Had dinner here and enjoyed the beef brisket and pork belly. The presentation of the meat was so beautiful with the pork belly slices rolled into roses. There was a delicious assortment of banchan and we were satisfied with the meal but couldn't leave without trying the pyongyang naengmyun. The staff was attentive and shared specifically how to enjoy the naengmyun by tasting the broth first and only adding vinegar to the noodles as needed. The lovely owner was also so kind and threw in a free doenjang soup for us to try! Can't leave out the gorgeous interior with green tiles that complement the gold tableware. Definitely gives off a high-end vibe. A little pricier than your average KBBQ but worth a try!

Yelp
Came here with a friend on a Saturday night and luckily we had a reservation so we didn't have to wait. The restaurant was busy but service was super fast. My friend and I chose to split the seonbi naengmyun and marinated beef ribs. The food was amazing!! My friend said the traditional naenngmyun was pretty bland, so I'm really glad we got the spicy one. The banchan were some of the best I've ever had as well. I'd definitely want to come back with a bigger group so I can try more of the kbbq meats. The parking lot in the back is really tight and the only option is a $3 valet. To me, that was the only downside of the whole experience but that's K-town for you.

Yelp
Came here for a weekday family dinner and was impressed by the interior decor, attentive service, and overall quality of the meal. MATBAGI NAENGMYEON - This North Korean-style Pyeongyang cold noodle dish came with generous portions of sliced beef and toppings like pickled cucumbers, radish, and white kimchi. The broth isn't rich while some might call it bland but that's what makes it unique. It has a clean, subtle flavor that feels deeply traditional and true to its Korean roots. They also serve a warm meat broth on the side, light and comforting and nothing like an au jus, but more like a refreshing, savory sip between bites. MEAT COMBO SET A (Prime brisket, ribeye, prime boneless rib, and stew) - The QUALITY was OUTSTANDING, with beautiful marbling visible on each cut. Every side dish was neatly arranged on a large tray, and all were flavorful and DELICIOUS. The meats were tender, juicy, and had a great time grilling to perfection. I think I've found a hidden gem in Koreatown where it is not crowded, excellent quality meats, and great service. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I had never tried Pyongyang cold noodles before, but when I heard that this new restaurant makes their noodles in-house, I really wanted to give it a try. When we went, I found that their noodles paired with their homemade vinegar were so refreshing and tasty. The broth had a slight sweetness, which I also really enjoyed. I'll definitely go back for the cold noodles again. As for the BBQ, since we didn't want our clothes to smell like grilled meat, we asked them to cook it in the kitchen. The meat was good, but the portion was a bit small. Their side dishes were delicious, and the service was nice overall. Overall, I'll go back for the cold noodles; maybe I'll try a different type next time.

Yelp
I WAS SCARED BECAUSE OF THE BAD REVIEWS BUT DON'T BE!!! If you're curious, just try out the Pyongyang naengmyun for yourself. I was told that it was bland and a "very acquired taste". But in reality it's not "tap water" or bland at all. It's bone broth!!!! Now is that "bland" compared to like... pozole or bun bo hue or tom yum?? YEAH but that's not to say it's not GOOD. They're entirely different flavor profiles. This has a clean umami bone broth... think pho without the spices or like a homey Cantonese style pork rib soup. Clear broth with flavor. Just trying a sip of the broth before anything else I was like woahhh this is really nice! And then the fear + "what if I hate it" immediately disappeared. I mean I was ready to not like it and be ok with that (as one should be when you commit to trying something new) but it was really good and I would 100% go back especially since it's so hot right now. I also like that the noodles are 100% buckwheat so it's more like soba! I don't like the chewy style naengmyun all that much (where you need scissors to even attempt eating) so this is perfect for me!! Plus homemade noodles? Love love love. The presentation and portion size is actually really good. The bowl is aesthetic but that ball of noodle really is packing a lot of noodle, don't be deceived. It's slightly expensive at $20 a bowl but it's a decent portion and a unique find. I say it's worth it. You can eat it just like that if you want, but they recommended it with their house made vinegar. How you eat it is by holding up the noodles with chopsticks and then pouring the vinegar ON TOP OF THAT BITE OF NOODLE!! Not into the soup. The soup is precious umami, you'll pour the vinegar directly on top of the noodles instead. And I cannot explain why it is so good but it just is! That bite is bright and tangy and balances with the soup so well. The dot jeyuk is sliced boiled pork. It's good with the pickled shrimp + all their sides. I liked having extra meat with my noodles but this is completely optional. If you go on a weekday lunch, they actually have noodle + meat as a lunch special for $30. The banchans are all really good too and they will offer to refill if they see you running low. The service is fast and everyone is very nice and happy to walk you through the steps of how to eat everything. They just explain it, don't force or police you or anything so don't worry! I didn't get any of the barbecue meats but it does smell really good!! I'll consider it if I go with more people next time. But I really did enjoy this place and will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Probably one of my most favorite KBBQ restaurants out there. Their Pyongyang Nengmyun (cold noodles) is truly to die for. I've always loved Pyongyang noodles but there was not a place that served it in LA. The noodle texture is perfect and the broth is flavorful. Their meat is also very high quality and they cook it for you, which is great! Service has always been awesome every time we've went, and the side dish selections are amazing as well. Highly recommend this place to any KBBQ and Nengmyun lover!

Yelp
I will preface that this place advertised themselves as the only place that does Pyongyang Cold Noodles, which is the North Korean style cold noodles. North Korean style food tends to be on the blander side than South Koreans style (yes it's different). The North Korean style tends to be more bland with the emphasis on the broth. You should be adding vinegar to your liking and seasoning as you go. I grew up with Pyongyang style cold noodles and prefer this style for than the South Korean style (imagine Yuchiun). So I was super excited to try it out. I personally didn't prefer it. The soup was much more bland than I prefer. I grew up eating this type of noodle and it's not unfamiliar to me but it just tasted like bland tea water. They recommend adding vinegar to the noodles, which make it better but I won't be coming back for the cold noodles. The meat smelled amazing and our group said we'd like to come back for the bbq portion but the noodles were not my preference. As its specialty is the noodles, i wouldn't come back for the noodles.

Yelp
I've already been here more than twice, and I have to say the interior is clean ( It is new ) and well put together, showing how much effort went into creating this place. Finally, there's a spot in LA where you can enjoy truly delicious Pyongyang-style cold noodles (naengmyeon). Although the dish originated in North Korea, it has been further developed in Korea, and it was one of my favorites when I lived there. I always missed having it in LA--so when I heard this place opened, I had to come right away. The broth is refreshing, the noodles are perfect--this is exactly the taste I was looking for. It paired so well with the Dot Jaeyuk (a pork dish), and even the side dishes were excellent, full of authentic homemade flavor. The staff took the time to explain the menu with such pride, which made the experience even better. Since this is already a well-known food brand from Korea, the menu and quality really stand out. Most importantly, the food is just delicious. I'll definitely be coming back often for the Pyongyang naengmyeon and the meat dishes. Highly recommend!

Yelp
North Korean cuisine with an upscale feel! I visited this restaurant at opening on a Sunday and it was already packed by 11:30AM! Walking-in, my friend and I were warmly greeted by the attentive staff. The interior felt fancy and clean. I ordered the Goldong Naengmyeon which was a soupless cold noodle dish and it was good! It was fresh and nutty which I liked. It wasn't heavy and tasted healthy. It felt very traditional without the added flavor enhancers. I also tasted Pyongyang Naengmyeon and the broth was light and refreshing. Each noodle dish was $20-$25 which was a pretty good deal considering the banchan, tea, and ambiance. I also enjoyed the array of banchan. Everything felt fresh and well-made. The fresh water kimchi was crisp and refreshing. In general, all the food presentation was excellent. Overall, a great experience here! While I do prefer South Korean style naengmyeon, the food here was still good. I would come back if I was looking for something lighter in flavor.

Yelp
My husband and I have been on Pyongyang naengmyun tour in Ktown lately, and since Seogwan opened, we've been hankering to try it out. There was a wait during Saturday lunch, but it moves pretty fast. Make sure you put your name down inside the restaurant. As for the food... we had bulgogi stew + 2 naengmyun combo and an order of beef tartare (yukhwae). It was pretty good, but nothing outstanding. Also for the price (90$), the bulgogi stew had barely any meat in it. Since the 2 cold noodles were 20 each, the 90 dollar combo comes out to bulgogi stew being equivalent to 50 dollars, and that was kinda ridiculous for what we got. For the cold noodles, we chose one bibimbap (spicy) and one Pyongyang. Of the two, I actually liked the bibimnaengmyun better. Their Pyongyang naengmyun was good, but I just didn't get the rich, meat flavor in the broth. It wasn't my favorite of all the restaurants that we've tried Pyongyang naengmyun recently. Service was chaotic, but it was pretty packed, so I'll give them a pass. We had to ask for things and the food came out really erratically. One of the odd things about the restaurant is that the banchan comes out in a set platter of six small bowls. When we asked for a couple of the items to be refilled, instead of just filling the couple that were low, they took the whole platter and brought out a new one. I just thought it was such a waste, since we hadn't finished other items on it. That might just be a kink they need to work out since they just opened. I would go back once it dies down a bit. I think the restaurant has a lot of potential, so looking forward to it.

Yelp
I had heard multiple complaints about the long wait here, so I was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away during peak lunchtime on a Friday. We ordered two combos: Pyongyang naengmyeon with galbi, and seonbi naengmyeon with a mung bean pancake. I've had naengmyeon all my life, but this was my first time trying Pyongyang style--and I enjoyed it more than I expected. The flavor is light and, for lack of a better word, somewhat bland, but there's a certain charm to its simplicity. The seonbi naengmyeon was flavorful without being overwhelmingly spicy. The galbi was less sweet than what I've had at other places, but it was tender and paired nicely with the noodles. The mung bean pancake was decent, though not particularly memorable. What stood out most was the balanced variety of banchan and the overall thoughtful presentation of every dish. Service was friendly and efficient; I never had trouble flagging someone down when I needed something. Parking is valet-only, with no set fee beyond a tip, so I'd recommend bringing some cash.

Yelp
I decided to check out Seogwan because of all the hype surrounding Pyongyang Naengmyun nowadays. We went on a weekday around 7:30pm and were seated immediately with no wait...a huge relief because I had previously observed lines while driving by. Overall I guess it was an ok experience at Seogwan, but I was definitely somewhat disappointed. Although all the hype is around their Pyongyang Naengmyun, Seogwan is actually a Korean BBQ. So, I was a little shocked and somewhat annoyed that they don't offer a Korean BBQ combo option that includes their signature Pyongyang Naengmyun dish...I'm not sure if it's a greed thing or a stupidity thing, perhaps both. Anyways, the Pyongyang Naengmyun was just meh...not for me. I've heard the dish generally is a hit or miss for people, and it was definitely a miss for me. I want my naengmyun to be refreshing and this is not that. We also ordered the bbq combo A which is enough food for 2-3 people. The bbq was decent but nothing special. They cook everything for you, but it's ultimately just another unimpressive Korean BBQ option in an very oversaturated market. They fail to really set themselves apart in any way. *Yawn* The service started off pretty good and everyone was initially pretty friendly including who I think is the owner, but there's definitely room for some significant improvement. There were some pretty serious lapses in service including a period where an influencer type was in the restaurant and all the employees were super focused only on them. They even ended up burning one of our meats and having to bring us new meat. Also, the AC or something was dripping water from the ceiling/roof which was also kind of annoying...hopefully they get that fixed. Overall, I think it's overpriced for what it is, and I don't ever see myself craving anything at Seogwan. For me, truly great restaurants have two basic elements: craveable food and top-notch service -- and Seogwan, unfortunately, misses the mark on both. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 stars. Seogwan is located where Magal used to be, and there's a parking lot in the back.

Yelp
Had a reservation at 12 on Sunday for 7. It was pretty busy. We got combo d i think, 3 naegmyun, mung bean pancake, yookhwe. The meat quality was really good. I had no complaints about any of the meat cuts. Pyongyang naemyung was refreshing. It was interesting because we were told to put the vinegar on the noodles instead of in the broth. (Pick up the noodles into another dish and pour vinegar) Reason being is that they make their own vinegar so its a little sweeter. It did taste good that way and the broth was clean. Their banchans were different and the veggie looking ones tasted good with the meat. I like their meatball one. Mungbean pancake was not my thing but others liked it because it was crispy. Service was very good. We had one with no name but he was very kind and helped with whatever we asked for. Michael was also super happy with lots of energy.

Trinny T.

Yelp
We were seated very fast while having the name on the list. The food itself was rather average. Maybe I really don't like the North Korean cold noodles. The noodle soup wasn't even cold. What happened to the ice? 2/5 I thought the beef tartare was good but it wasn't unique. 4/5. Banchan options were scarce. Overall experience was rather forgetful and not unique. So I won't be coming back. At least I gave it a try. If someone pays for me I'd come back. I don't hate it.
google avatar

Karen P.

Yelp
Finally got to try this after much hype online. I'm not typically a fan of cold noodles but I did enjoy this meal. The beef tartare was delicious and simple. We ordered the Matbagi Naengmyeon and it did indeed have a generous amount of toppings and meat! We were instructed how to eat it (sip broth, stir noodles, add vinegar, mix everything together). Naengmyeon isn't my go-to meal by any means but I'm glad to have tried it. Parking is behind the restaurant, $3 valet. Then walk around to the front (can't get inside restaurant from the back!) Would be difficult to find street parking.

Yelp
This place is a well-known Pyongyang cold noodle (naengmyeon) spot from Korea, so I had high expectations going in, and it did not disappoint. I've visited twice now, and both times I had an incredibly satisfying bowl of naengmyeon. The broth is light and clean, but full of deep beef flavor, exactly how traditional Pyongyang-style broth should be. The noodles are made with 100% buckwheat, giving it that authentic chewy texture and nutty flavor that true naengmyeon lovers appreciate. I also tried the beef bulgogi in broth and the grilled flower-cut short rib, both were solid and enjoyable. The only thing I'd hope to see improved is the waiting system -- lines can get quite long, so a more organized system would make the experience even better.
google avatar

Nathaniel J B.

Yelp
If you know you know and if you're not a fan of traditional North Korean noods....Pyeonyang Naengmyeon then this might not be for you? Unlike the typical dish the broth is clear cleaner and noodles are traditionally not chewy!! Apparently the noodles are hand made here and I really enjoyed the broth after adding a little pickled radish, sweet vinegar and hot mustard!! Very odd corner designed seating but loved the decor!! Small space so limited seating could equal long wait!! Ban chan was very old school and very traditional vegan fwd but tasty!! I actually thought service was ok minus a few miscues and forgotten requests. I'm not sure if I would go back for return dinner service but very compelled to try out once more for the lunch sets?

Yelp
The pyung yang naengmyun was ok. I honestly like the noodles from MoRangGak better. But what made it worse was the fact that the girl that was taking our order was talking shit thinking I didn't understand. We didn't order too much because we weren't hungry and wanted to try multiple places while in LA. But she went to two other workers and started talking about it. Wonder what she says when people who don't understand are there. HORRIBLE

Yelp
after a 10 mile hike in 90 degree weather, my friends and i stopped by seogwan in the late afternoon for an incredibly refreshing and satisfying meal! our party of four placed orders for one round of bbq and two bowls of north korean style cold noodles. every dish was gorgeously plated! the iced barley tea, (refillable) banchan/side dishes, and dipping sauces arrived at the table first. i enjoyed the side dishes with seaweed and peanuts the most. they were packed with so much flavor and texture! FOOD 01. pyongyang naengmyeon ($20) after my first sip, i understood why the restaurant recommended tasting the beef broth first before flavoring it with vinegar. the broth (and slice of pear) carried a super light and clean flavor. the buckwheat noodles and beef were just as light. even though only a few thin slices of beef were included in the dish, i felt satisfied with the overall meal because our party decided to order an additional plate of meat. 02. meat combo set A ($145) the set included prime brisket, ribeye, marinated boneless short ribs, USDA prime boneless rib, a handful of vegetables, and stew (your choice between kimchi or soybean). it was accompanied by plate of pickled radish and leaves to cut through the greasiness of the meat. SERVICE staff were friendly and accommodating. they coated our grill with a slab of butter before proceeding to cook and cut the meat for us. as more patrons filled the restaurant, there were a few instances in which the staff had their attention diverted to other customers, and we took over grilling the meat ourselves. we didn't mind this given the fact that we were accustomed to self service at other bbq establishments. AMBIENCE the inside of the restaurant was clean, spacious, and elegant. ventilation was great. even with multiple tables grilling, there was no smokiness. PARKING parking is free in the decently sized parking lot shared by seogwan and neighboring businesses. the lot can be entered from serrano ave. and hobart blvd.

Yelp
Seogwan by Yellowcow BBQ is one of the best pyungneng you can eat in the U.S. I'm a pure otaku or obssessive when it comes to pyung neng (North Korea Capital Noodles). I would eat pyung neng everyday for lunch in Korea, drive 3 hours round trip to do pyung neng every weekend. Pyung neng has two people: People that get it, people that doesnt or cannot get it. As I have spoke to other Pyung neng mentors, its not something you can attract or influence to become "the one". "The one" is someone that gets it. The purist otaku's will eat this cold noodle dish when its snowing or cold. The true origin of this dish comes when wealthy elite in North Korea would eat this dish to cool themself from Hot woodfire heated floor. Also I like to eat this with no topping to feel just the buckwheat and the subtle soup umami. Pro tip: First drink the entire broth without dissecting the buckwheat noodles. Get refill for the soup all the way to the top. Slowly dissect and slurp the noodle with the yooksoo, pyungneng broth. You will thank me some day if I woke your past life love for this dish. Your welcome! :)

Yelp
Long line during busy hours, so be aware that the pyeongyang noodles served here are an acquired taste. Definitely not a taste I've acquired (which I was fully aware/ready for), and so my rating is mostly for the appetizers/banchan we got. They were absolutely class. I'd actually dine here more often if the apps were priced a bit lower just for them (the noodles can be for the other members of my party who actually enjoy that taste)

Yelp
Love love Yellow Cow in Gardena so was excited to try Seogwan, especially as we love naengmyeon. Clean spot that was definitely prepared for kbbq but since it was lunch, most people were just having cold noodles. We got the korean beef tartare, matbagi (more toppings cold noodle) and goldong (non-spicy drier cold noodle) naengmyeon. The korean beef tartare was better than I've had in a long with crunchy and nutty bits. I really enjoyed my goldong dish - a different kind of a cold noodle! My husband liked his as well. It did really have a lot of toppings for both. I just don't think it was fantastic or better than a cold noodle from Yuchun or Lee Ga which have some of my favorites. It's pricy as well so try if you want something a little different with your kbbq.

Yelp
Let's start off by saying that this pyong yang naengmyun is NOT the typical naengmyun that you're used to!! 1. Noodles are NOT chewy! 2. Broth is "blander" with a beefy cold broth, no vinegar or acidic "punch" like normal. So it's different in several ways. The way you eat it is you get. some noodle and pour the vinegar on top and eat it. The vinegar isn't too punchy but it has flavor to it! I got the kalbi combo- the kalbi is soft and thick, perfectly cooked. Friend got the bbindaedduk combo and that was pretty good, nice as crisp on the outside. I think the banchans they had were outstanding. The little dried shimp thingies? So good. Honestly I rarely see this and Ithink even my mom only made it a handful of times I don't even know the name of that banchan. Overall, you're getting a great, well thought-out meal with quality ingredients, but you should know what you're coming in for. Don't come with the expectation that this naengmyun is like the naengmyun you get at all the other places. In my opinion, I like the other one better because I like the noodles better. I don't think that this one is bland, but it definitely has less flavor than the typical one. I personally like the subtle gentle beef broth flavor, but I hate the noodles. If they could have the option for the other one I feel like it would be amazing, but that's not traditional. I would come here to try it, and come early because this place gets packed, even in the middle of the week during lunch time. There were a bunch of halmonies and harabujees waiting in line, so you know it's popping if you see old people wait for something that's hype. The service was really exceptional, and the restaurant itself is clean and aesthetically pleasing. The presentation of everything was beautiful too and they even explain the dishes and how to eat it on the placemat.

Yelp
as a Korean, this is by far the best KBBQ restaurant I have been to in the states. It's better than parks bbq. This place has low ratings because people just get the "Pyongyang nengmyun" and aren't satisfied. This nengmyun is a particular type of noodle and is an acquired taste. I'm not into Pyongyang nengmyun myself, but I am a very harsh critic of kbbq. I don't eat at AYCE or most of the kbbq establishments in the states. The kBBQ here is IMPECCABLE. Dont let the low ratings from Pyongyang nengmyun fool you. These low raters don't know Korean taste

Yelp
Came here because it's known as a famous Pyongyang cold noodle spot in Korea. Honestly, it was just okay. We ordered black pork samgyeopsal and pork cheek. The samgyeopsal was tasty, but the pork cheek was too fatty. The good part was the 8 side dishes plus kimchi !!And the staff were very friendly.

Yelp
My favorite new cold noodle spot. Love the high-scale, clean environment. Met the owner and she was super friendly. Service was quick and spot on. Would definitely come more often!

Yelp
Feel good for traditional taste. Very rare and spot for memory for Korea. Anyone like cold noodle named PyungYang try here

Yelp
It just opened up so there's alot of people and hype about this place. My expectations were high because I've been going to GABIN. The noodles were really good. The banchan sides were not as good. The meat quality is very good. I would go again if there's no wait time. Maybe until the hype is over.

Yelp
This was my third visit to Seogwan Myeonok, and it just keeps getting better. Some negative reviews are clearly from people who complain no matter what . I love that the side dishes change every visit and are always fresh. I had the naengmyeon + BBQ combo today, and as always, it was amazing. Each visit feels like the flavors are upgraded to another level. Quality here is on a whole different level. Highly recommend -- this place never disappoints!

Yelp
Expensive, service was bad but i'm giving a pass because they just opened so that didn't affect the rating and still it's low. I've had pyeongyang naengmyeon in korea and it was never this bland or poor quality, the meat was mid quality and priced ridiculous amounts. The banchan was presented nicely but tasted mid. it was very reminiscent of modern places in korea in that they prioritized the presentation and looks of the restaurant and food over the actual quality and taste. Unfortunate given my high expectations and excitement to try to place.

Yelp
The food was exceptionally clean and every dish was truly delicious. The quality of the meat was outstanding .Each side dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with nothing made carelessly. It's definitely a place I'd love to bring guests I want to treat well. Without a doubt, I'd love to come back again.

Yelp
Authentic Pyongyang Naengmyeon Worth the Drive We recently visited Seogwan Myeonok by Yellow Cow to celebrate my mother's birthday with the whole family. I had been here once before with friends and really enjoyed the experience, so we decided to come back for a special occasion. Even though we live in the South Bay and the Gardena Yellow Cow is closer, we made the drive up to LA specifically for their Pyongyang-style cold noodles. There are a handful of places in LA that claim to serve Pyongyang naengmyeon, but honestly, none of them have ever really hit the mark--until now. The noodles are made with 100% buckwheat, and you can really taste the flavor the more you chew. The texture is light but chewy in a satisfying way. The broth is a clean, clear beef broth--mild and subtle, almost like a cold version of a light ox bone soup (gomtang). It's not salty or overpowering at all, and I found myself wanting to sip more and more. I personally prefer a clean and understated flavor profile, so this really hit the spot. The restaurant is spacious, and the staff were friendly and attentive, making it a great place for a family gathering, even with elders. If you're a fan of authentic Pyongyang naengmyeon--or curious to try the real thing--this place is absolutely worth it.

Yelp
This place is for the unique people who really love PyoungYang style noodles. Not for the rest of the peeps. And I'm one of the rest. The broth was too plain and bit salty. The instruction stated to add vinegar after you taste the broth, but since I wasn't used to this style of noodles. I really had put a whole lots of it. Also ordered the spicy mix? Noodles? Unfortunately this was a big big bust. Was blan no flavor besides being little spicy. It needs a bit of sugar and no ground beef. And our Bandhan was different from other tables. The waiter said, depending on what you ordered. Last ordered was nokdu pancake, which was the best out of all our orders. Would I go back? NO! Interior was nice and the servers were great, but the hype just wasn't there. Not worth the money nor the wait in line that it has.

Yelp
Their side dishes are the best in K town. I come here because of that! also service is very good!

Yelp
Can you believe a BBQ spot like this exists in LA? Seriously, this should be illegal--it's that good. They grill the meat on a huge wire rack, then roast aged kimchi and fernbrake right next to it. Every one of the twelve side dishes tastes homemade, and that smoky, savory aroma lingers all the way into the cold noodles--pure perfection. This is Seogwan Myeonok, personally and proudly recommended by Chef Michelle.

Yelp
Tbh we came here for Magal BBQ but once we got here, we realized that it was replaced by this new restaurant! We decided to give it a try. We eventually came to realize that they are known for their cold noodles. As noobs who did not know, we ordered for kbbq. All the meats that came were very delicious. Something notable were the amount of side dishes which were all so delicious! I loved how instead of the typical greens for wrapping, they had seaweed and salad instead. It definitely felt more unique and upscale. The atmosphere was very aesthetic and it was very comfortable to dine in. As we went during soft opening, I definitely feel that they are still working on some of their kinks (such as refilling water timely and watch for the cook of our meats more closely). Despite this, we are excited to come back next time for their cold noodles and hot pot dish!

Yelp
It's okay, not great. Get the noodles, which seem pretty good and authentic. I would not get the meat. as I feel there are many other places with better quality meat at better prices. The meat, as they prepred it, was tough and dry. The bean paste soup was also disappointing, neither rich or tasty. The peole here are so great, each seeming very passionate and interested to being there, which makes me wish I enjoyed the food better. Maybe they can make a few changes to make the food beter, because the people there and how wonderful they were eally made me want to come back.

Yelp
Meat is good and the nangmyun is good - you have to add a ton of vinegar and some mustard. Overall it's pricey for what you're getting. Problem is my partner, who is Mexican, and I went to grab dinner. He's not Korean and he walked in first and went directly from the parking lot in the back. One of the servers was very rude and told us we can't take the back door. There was no sign in English so of course my partner would walk in. Others after us have walked in but the server didn't say anything to the white customers. Second, they don't do a good job at grilling. They keep forgetting and the meat burns. So we try to grill ourselves. I get it happens if it's busy but at least lower the heat or communicate to us that you won't be coming back to the grill. Lastly, the sets come with soup. We were waiting on our soup for 10 minutes and a server comes by with a check instead. I reminded them of the soup order and they took another 10 minutes. This place is unorganized and servers can be rude. Food is good but not great.

Yelp
Underwhelming. Ordered: 2 pyeongyang, galbi, and mung bean pancakes. Total with tip: $168 Pyeongyang nengmyun is not my type of dish. I love chewy, super cold nengmyun. The broth of this was bland, not cold. Noodles were not chewy and frankly seemed overcooked. Galbi was fantastic! Mungbean pancakes were burnt and under seasoned. Banchans were decent. Service was great. Overall, I wouldn't come back here for a nengmyun experience. Might try some barbecue next time!

Yelp
Finally found my spot for Naengmyeon ! I was torn between the Pyongyang and the Seonbi Naengmyeon for lunch. I ended up selecting the Seonbi to get my spicy fix and it did not disappoint at all! I loved how I didn't have to use scissors and that the consistency of the noodles held up ! I also ended up ordering the seaweed from Jeju which I couldn't stop eating as well. The service was fantastic ! Shout out to the head server for taking the time to talk to me about the restaurant and also gave me some broth that is in the Pyongyang which was very satisfying. The ambiance was also very nice inside! Sup

Yelp
This restaurant offers legit Pyeongyang Noodles. One of the best dining experiences I've had recently. The Pyeongyang naengmyeon was absolutely solid. Hands down the best Pyeongyang noodles I've had in LA. The broth was clean, deep, and refreshing. Chef Monica Kim was incredibly kind and took time to explain the dish to us. She even offered us extra broth which we were very grateful for. Everything was so good that we ended up ordering more Pyeongyang Noodles. I would definitely come back for more Pyeongyang Noodles.

Yelp
I'm surprised by how this place did a whole 180 in just a matter of a week. We got the beef combo set A and it was the smallest portion I've seen served in Ktown for $145. Also it appears that they don't turn on the hoods so our party ended up smelling like straight up meat. The naengmyun which used to have a rich beef broth has now changed to just plain water. It also got so sweet which is disappointing and not what Pyongyang Naengmyun is supposed to be. This is just an assumption but I'm guessing that the owner changed their recipe in response to the negative reviews to add sugar. The only positive side to this was our server who was so nice and checked in frequently.

Yelp
BBQ is great, but I wanted to try other dishes this time. There is not many places that offer Pyengyang style cold noodle. I loved it!!!

Yelp
Lots of hype on Instagram, so we had to try. The pyeongyang naengmyun was great! The broth was very rich and light-which I didn't think could happen! I also loved the noodles- great texture. We also got the bibim naengmyun. It was good, but not memorable. I'd like to try the other two noodle dishes if I visit again. We had heukdwaeji pork belly and marinated kalbi without bones. Both were comparable to other k-bbq places-good, not amazing. The mung bean pancakes good, too. It's on the denser side than others. I had it for lunch the next day! The table we were seated at had a bit of a condensation issue with the AC, and drops of water would drop on my head, not often, maybe three times...I let the owner know, he said someone was coming out in a day. The service could have been a little bit better, not because they weren't attentive, but more because there wasn't a system. At least 4-5 different people came by to check on us, and at least 3 people came by to flip the meat for our table, often less than a minute or two between the flips. The owner came by to serve us water and he was very gracious and kind. It's a good place to go for fun, loud and lively. I might return, but it's not a definite yes.

Yelp
Finally a restaurant that understands and capable of creating this complex yet simple dish called PyungYang NaengMyun aka Korean Cold Noodle (Northern style). This dish may taste very blend but there are a lot of effort that goes in to make the broth the way it is when they serve so clean and presentable. The noodle as well is said to be made organic + none GMO buckwheat flour, which give the pasta-like texture, instead of chewy texture. I'm sure the service and taste will improve as they settle in, so no complains and GREAT job importing this awesome brand from Korea :) MUST TRY!!!

Yelp
The staff was friendly and quick to bring out everything we needed. The owner seemed a bit overwhelmed by our larger party (we had three kids with us), and they ended up splitting our group into two tables. Honestly, I get it--it was a busy day, and the restaurant was full. The place itself is fairly new, very clean, and has a nice, modern ambiance. Parking isn't the easiest, but once you're inside, it feels welcoming. As for the food--it's a different style of naengmyun than we're used to here in the states. If you're expecting bold, sweet-and-sour flavors, with the springy noodles, this might catch you off guard. Their broth is much more subtle and layered, almost like going from Arizona iced tea to a carefully brewed artisan tea--less sugar, more nuance, and a bit less cold with noodles that doesn't need scissors to cut prior to eating. It's definitely a regional style that may not be familiar to everyone. Like the many types of pizza out there, this is just another style of naengmyun that seems to be trending in Korea for awhile. Is it for everyone? Maybe not. But if you're open to trying or have been curious to try Pyongyang naengmyub, it's worth a visit.

Yelp
I didn't like Pyeongyang naengmyeon, but Seogwan Myeonok opened an LA, so I went with my friends, and the combination of cold noodle mung bean pancakes and the meat was so delicious. The service was good. I want to go again
