Yelp
I've been here a few times over the years, once quite recently, so I think it's about time I got around to making it "Yelp Official".
Seoul Garden is a good time for many reasons, some that have nothing to do with the culinary experience. Allow me to explain. The restaurant is located near several major roads (I-94, State St, Eisenhower Pkwy) without being situated actually *on* any of them, and that is really nice in my humble opinion. I like that it is extremely accessible without being overly burdened by traffic, noise, or clustered parking. Which takes me to parking ! - there is a private lot with ample spaces for parking, a feature that not all restaurants in Ann Arbor can make a claim of. Not paying for parking or using a tiered garage is a really pleasant start to a meal out, I have to say. Don't mind if I do!
The food is a combination of Korean and Japanese cuisine, with bbq, soups, sushi, bibimbap, noodles, and many other available options. This is great because it allows for a wide variety of preferences and dietary needs to be easily accommodated. On my last visit, I (the vegan) went with someone who rather prefers that every meal be centered in meat, and we were both able to enjoy a fantastic dinner! They also have beverages to choose from, including things like sake, some specialty cocktails, and imported beers. Drinking a Sapporo always reminds me of the first time I had one in Tokyo. How good!
I'm partial to the Dolsot Bibimbap, myself. Rice, veggies, tofu, (no egg for me, being vegan) loaded with a whole heaping mess of gochujang (Korean red pepper paste), served in a hot stone bowl that continues to cook the rice until crisp. Yummm! So good. I ate loads of Bibimbap in South Korea but most of those little family run restaurants I visited didn't have the hot stone bowl (so to have it served dolsot is a special touch). Also, as is traditional, the meal is always served with excellent banchan (basically Korean side dishes, usually different veggies (that are also found IN the bibimbap, as is also traditional)) and even miso soup. My dining companion quite enjoyed the Chicken Yakisoba. Can't argue with noodles!
If you're a fan of Korean or Japanese food and you have the opportunity, give this place a go.
