"Another Vietnamese-Cajun seafood boil restaurant, which are growing in popularity in Boston. This one will have a variety of seafood (crab, lobster, shrimp, and more) and sauces from which to choose, as well as appetizers such as fried oysters and fried calamari." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

"Put this one on your to-do list for the spring: Shaking Seafood could open as early as May in Roslindale. The menu will bear a resemblance to Boston’s other seafood joints, with customers able to choose from several main items — including crab, lobster, and shrimp — and an assortment of sauces for dousing and shaking. As at Shaking Crab (though the restaurants are unrelated), Shaking Seafood will also offer fried seafood, like calamari and oysters." - Dana Hatic

The restaurant is small with about 6 small booths. The booth seats 4 people, but a table can added to seat 2 additional people and a child's high chair. The server was nice and attentive and even helped to cut and serve my birthday cake. My family and I ordered the 1 pound of crab legs with corn, shrimp, sausage and potatoes and Talipia and coleslaw, lemon pepper wings. Also calamari and sweet potato fries. The seafood was good if you like a little spice. I would recommend this restaurant. You should make a reservation since the restaurant is small and popular.

I've dined @ this location about the same amount of times to the # of fingers I have, & I like this place!!! Good service, family friendly establishment, decor is simple & promotes the theme, great lighting & open space, the food...... gooood. If Jenny's around, she'll make sure you have a great experience, just like the other staffs. If you want to feel like an addict to food, when selecting the sauce to your order, get the shaking sauce/& double the amount, along with your level of spicy. Thank me later, the 19 others did😄 & they are now addicts. On a G-scale rating of G👍👍👍 Satisfied Customer- G👍👍👍

DONT EAT HERE, THE WORKERS ARE THIRSTY FOR YOUR MONEY. Me and my friends went to go eat there and as we were so paying we left a $5 tip because you’re forced to tip. But 2 days later me and my friends got charged again as a tip that we didn't know about and the waiter kept my friends change and at that we are minors. The waiter added a tip after signed the receipt without us knowing what they did was not right you can't charge people's card and tell them about it.

This is a very unique place. I had a hard time rating this place. Let's start with the place itself. The walls are covered with writing. Some were funny, some not. The tables are covered with paper for easy cleanup. The staff seemed all about business. They were efficient and attentive, but not very friendly. They have strong again accents, so we had a hard time understanding exactly how ordering worked. You need to order in 1lb increments. The food you order will come in a bag, and you get a bucket to throw the waist in. You get a bib and gloves. Here are a couple of bad things. You only get plastic forks and a shell cracker for crab legs. This makes it very hard to get the meat out. Shrimp is not pealed. Gloves rip easily. Comes here prepared to get messy. We got the mixed sauce. The flavor was great. Medium heat was good. It is spicey, but not too hot, right on the edge. The shrimp and crab was over cooked. The shrimp was a little tough. The crab just broke apart when touched. That made it very hard to get the meat out. The scallops were just right. Overall, I liked it. The over cooking was not horrible on shrimp, but I don't recommend the crab. Maybe bring some metal utensils if you want crab. Considering there is no real dishes for them to clean and no display prep, it is a little pricey. At least everything was a good size. You don't get tiny shrimp and scallops.

Great seafood spot with amazing fresh seafood! Price to portions is on point and then service is very nice and attentive. Kids menu had a nice selection of items and portions again was very nice. Decor is minimalistic but still inviting and the bathrooms were very clean too! All social distancing protocols were in place and they politely asked everyone who walked in the door to get their temperature checked and to sanitize their hands as well. The food : clam chowder was delicious: lots of clam meat with a thick creamy sauce and some potatoes. Fried shrimp were battered not too thick and the boiled seafood in a bag came with your choice of sauce and heat level. I like that they offered plastic gloves to eat with too! All in all the experience was great for this family of four and we l forward to visiting again soon!

Google
Greeted by staff member when we arrived. Seated quickly and Great service and not crowded on a Friday evening. Excellent prices as well and doggie bag to go home. We were given a small gift when we were leaving a key chain with their name, phone number, and address. What a lovely gesture for new customers.

Took my daughter there for her birthday dinner and it was awesome!! She loved it❤️. She had the Crab leg and Shrimp boiled Dinner with potatoes and corn. It was delicious ❤️🔥 Will be back again very soon!!!

Yelp
Well this was good! I got a seafood boil of headless shrimp and a snow crab cluster, corn/potato and added egg. I did the seasoning combo medium. It was soooooo good! Everything seasoned and fresh.

Apex S.

Yelp
Delicious! As usual, every bite of this meal was lip-smacking good. We ordered the lobster and shrimp with no head combo and added on mussels and extra potatoes. Our sauce of choice was the shaking sauce which is a combo of all their sauces. We got extra rice and sauce on the side. We didn't eat at the restaurant but got our order to go. The food was ready on time and packed well. All the seafood was fresh and the flavors had infused really well. With rice and the extra sauce on the side it because a great overall meal. Yum! Note that they do not provide any tools for free to crack the lobster, you have to purchase it from them. We were able to do it by ourselves.

Yelp
Finally tried shaking seafood located in Roslindale. They have two different locations for this branch (Roslindale and Dorchester). This store is located in front of Adams park in Roslindale, parking is kind of hard to find and it's mainly street parking. The inside of the store is minimally decorated but it has a very vibrant and light interior. The workers greeted us as soon as we entered and we got seat immediately (our party size was of 5 people). The menu has a lot of great options, (I inserted a picture of the full menu in the pictures below) they even offer fresh oysters and a variety of fried appetizer as well as wings. This time I decided to order the Shaking Boil Bag option B, which was 38$ before tax. This bag comes with snow crab legs, 1/2lbs of green mussels and 1lbs of shrimps. All of the bags also comes with automatically 1 corn and 2 potatoes, adding extra sides will cost extra. Once you decided the shaking boil crab of your choice you get to decide which flavor you'd like to pair it with. I definitely recommend the Cajun sauce because it is absolutely tasty. I decided to pair my boil bag with a side of white rice which was fluffy and cooked to perfection. The service was fast and the employee were kind and made sure we enjoyed the meal. I really loved my boiling crab bag. The shrimps tasted so good paired with the Cajun sauce. The crab meat was very sweet and delicate at the taste. I paired my meal with strawberry smoothie which was very tasty. I recommend everyone to stop by and try to spot, you won't regret it!!!

Yelp
We finally took a trip to Shaking Seafood for a sit down meal and they didn't disappoint! The food was fresh, tasted great and was plentiful. Our server Sydney was attentive and suggested the special which we had overlooked. The casual and fun atmosphere was just what we needed at the end of our day.

Santosh T.

Yelp
The combo bag or the boil bag are a good deal. The food is well cooked and delicious, from the mussels to the shrimp. The potatoes and corn go well with the seafood apart from adding some veggies to the mix. Once I ordered the dungeness crab to share between three and it was sufficient. The order is taken accurately be it in person or over the phone. It's nice to sit in the restaurant or take out, you choose. They provide tools to crack the shells but one can feel free to get their hands dirty!

Yelp
I learned of The Shaking Seafood Roslindale restaurant just recently and couldn't miss the chance to try out their southern/Cajun cuisine. I was overjoyed. Having enjoyed a crab boil menu in the heart of low country Savannah, GA, I can attest to its authenticity. What a treat. We had combo buckets (bags) with crawfish, crab legs, shrimp, oysters, soft shell crabs, hush puppies and more. We didn't dine in, so I can't comment on the ambiance, but I'll be raving about the food for weeks. A word of caution: one combo bag is enough to satisfy two hefty eaters. Bob Z, Needham

Yelp
Tons of seating, usually never have to wait for a table. Food comes out pretty fast and piping hot! This is one of my favorite places to get seafood boil!

David N.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a rainy New Years Eve on our way to First Night Boston. On-street parking wasnt crazy hard to find. We got the typical king crab, snow crab, hot house sauce boil. Food was piping hot, and I called my momma to let her know the probability of her getting slapped was increasing with each tasty bite. "Hot" is not too hot, but you will feel the familiar tightening grip on your esophageal plumbing that makes you clear your throat, maybe a few errant beads of sweat that your beanie luckily hid. You get a whole ear of corn, and the eggs are very fresh. The fries are the right mix of crunchy and soggy, if that's your scene. Don't get the hush puppies, they'ren't hitting on nothing. Our server was pretty cool: present, but not overbearing. We even thought highly of the bathroom. To crown it all off: we got little kitschy nye souvenirs. 10 out of 5 would recommend.

Yelp
Went back for the 2nd time to give it a second chance and what a waste of time. The flood was bland, not tasty and not worth it.

Zadia T.

Yelp
i went here to sit down & eat w my cousin. food was decent. price came out to $60 which was a little more than what we were expecting to pay but we found a way to pay it.. fast forward, im paying for my meal and was asked if i was gonna tip & simply said i don't think id be able to & that lead to us being told we could "order online if we weren't gonna tip". the service we got wasn't good at all & the attitude in the restaurant needs to be fixed. they'd get more customers & maybe tips if the service was better.

Shaleah T.

Yelp
Shaking seafood is consistently consistent! The food is always hot and always fresh. I appreciate the owner Jenny, and how attentive she is to the people who frequent the establishment. She is truly awesome. I've been here with my family and with so many others! If you go during a busy time there sometimes may be a wait to eat in. If you order take out the order is never wrong which is huge. I appreciate their consistency whether you sit in or take out. I also appreciate the pricing for the amount of food that you receive. Most importantly, I appreciate that it's in the local community so you don't have to drive too far to get to it. Shaking seafood keep doing your thang by making the community a better place with your yummy food!

Gina D.

Yelp
This place was so good! We had the fried shrimp & fries, the easy peel & eat shrimp, the boiled crawfish & snow crab legs and hush puppies. Everything we ordered was so good. The server was really helpful and friendly. Because we ordered $60 of food, we got a 1/2 lb of extra snow crab free as well. I wish I would have taken pics. So fresh and large pieces.

Ricci B.

Yelp
I was very amazed on how great the food was!! The service was nice and the vibe was great as well. I was very pleased with everything especially since this ended up being a last minute choice! I will say it a bit pricey but it's worth it, my husband also approved and he enjoyed his birthday there!!

Yelp
Awesome place. Chill vibe good, reasonable crab legs! Great service! Would totally recommend it.

Foodstar T.

Yelp
The food is just really good and the customer service pretty solid and friendly. I'd recommend. The chicken finger basket, fried shrimp basket and really everything is amazing.

Xia Y.

Yelp
Decently priced and deliciously satisfying. There's no better way to end a vacation on the east coast with some fresh seafood. The spice level was phenomenal, very flavorful compared to the Midwest. They also have really good chicken wings.

Shana S.

Yelp
Great service. Young woman who served us was very nice. Same idea as shaking crab, but the sauce is different. I can't say that I like one better than the other. Sangria was pretty good.

Michelle C.

Yelp
While the food was okay, the seasoning didn't permeate the food. The heat and seasoning was just on top and that made it hard to eat (burning lips). My uncle was happy with his lobster though. I just wish the flavor was more consistent. It was easy to find parking. The space was clean, tidy and minimal. Staff wear masks and there is hand wipes and sanitizer. #COVID19

Eunice I.

Yelp
Wow! Where to begin. Just visited for the first time yesterday and I think they are doing a good job handling COVID protocol as far as ensuring minimal interaction with surface area items and bringing out essential items for dining. Our waitress was also very attentive and nice so that was an added plus! Now on to the food! It was just so good! Usually when I've eaten at seafood places that have fried platters, it always tastes like batter with hardly any seasoning or flavor. That wasn't the case here. I ordered fried tilapia basket and the tilapia was lightly fried without too much oil. It also had nice seasoning to it. Along with the basket, I ordered Buffalo wings and those were also really good, too! I definitely plan to come back again and try some of their other stuff!

John H.

Yelp
Saw this place reviewed in phantom gourmet so did take out to try it. Loved the sauce and the flavor. Has its 'an experience' to get digging into the seafood with your hands it was nice of the staff who packed bibs too with the take out. Definitely fun experience with the family

Joan R.

Yelp
Lobster rolls...lobster pancakes...lobster bisque...New England style, Connecticut style...I've had them all and loved them all. When I saw the good reviews for this place I was eager to try a lobster roll. This is not a lobster roll. And for $22 a pop, I expected the real thing. I don't know what they stuffed between two sides of the roll but it wasn't lobster and it smelled of vinegar. It may have been the crappiest part of a lobster at best. The service was slow and unfriendly. There was no thank you or goodbye when leaving. The atmosphere was dreary. I'm giving a "1" for the fries and hush puppies which were very good and not greasy.

Shia G.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times mainly because I'll have a seafood craving and it's super close. I'm never satisfied or pleased even when I try other things recommended by others. Whether it's spring, summer, or fall the corn is mushy like it's the lowest quality frozen gmo corn one can buy and that goes for the shrimp too. I think people are often jaded by the seafood "crab legs" craze to realize this is some of the worst seafood masked with highly seasoned sauce. It's so bad! If you can drive there try Capri in RI (best) or maybe even Cap'n Loui Braintree. This Shaking seafood location misses the mark every time and leftovers just get trashed, what a waste.

Julia T.

Yelp
Delicious ! I tried their Lobster for the first time and it was the best by far. I will defiantly go back. I had the Lobster, Mussels, Shrimp.

Austin A.

Yelp
Very good. Cajun fries were amazing. Lobster roll was great and fried shrimp were huge. Would definitely be back if we lived here!

Lucy S.

Yelp
Prices too high the food is great, customer service stinks they always rude never going back

Jovanna O.

Yelp
Amazing ! So good , so fast , and great deals !! My family from Miami loved it and so did I . All other spots were not gonna open til 4 pm (seafood boils) so we came here . So good!

Nathan H.

Yelp
Cajun/Lemon Pepper/Garlic Butter and medium spicy steamed bag shrimp boil w/ corn & potatoes. This. Was. Great. The shrimp was seasoned very well and the medium spice wasn't too hot. The shrimp were also prop deveined.

Joan H.

Yelp
So delicious. We picked up a bag to go last night for dinner. This my second experience with Shaking Seafood, and the food was amazing both times. We ordered the crab legs with mussels and shrimp with Cajun seasoning. The seasoning was perfect, the crab was delectable. I won't bore you with raving about potatoes and corn, but they too were perfectly seasoned and delicious. If I lived closer I suspect I would be here way more often. My only complaint would be the lack of parking, but that's the city's fault not the restaurant.

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Absolutely delish!! Local friends wanted to show us how Boston does seafood and brought us here....YUM! We ordered the lobster roll, Combo bag Crablegs and Shrimp and Combo bag Lobster and Shrimp. The lobster roll was a bit bland- we asked for some Old Bay and that helped tremendously. Note- they'll charge you $1 for seasoning...not a deal breaker but kinda a bit crazy, I think. Either way, get it! We asked for melted butter, so we dipped all the seafood in the butter and then the Old Bay- totally on point!! Lobster Roll was $21 (includes fries), Crableg Combo bag was $37.50 and the Lobster Combo bag is $41.50. Pricing seemed fair to us considering the portions. Combo bags include 2 potatoes and a small ear of corn. Service was great, considering we were a group of 19.

Melanie W.

Yelp
I gave them 3 stars because the service is really slow. We order the 1/2 dozen fresh oysters which were really big which lead me to order 1/2 steam oysters but they overcooked it. One funny thing is that the oyster is big and the shell is all in a different size which the oysters are a different size as well. The fried soft shell crab was okay but not really crunchy. We ordered 2 combos, the snow crab with crawfish and shrimp w/ heads with crawfish, both with the shaking sauces, one mild and the other medium which not much different is just they add more chili oil in it. All the seafood are fresh and big... we ended up ordering another lb of crawfish. I wish they have garlic noodle like other boiled seafood restuarants. Definitely will come back again...

Sweet T.

Yelp
Absolutely love Shaking Seafood! They never miss. The seafood boil bag C is literally top tier , so much flavor. Even the wings, buffalo or Cajun! So so good. 10/10 would recommend every-time!

Kelsey S.

Yelp
I almost don't want to tell anyone about this place because it's THAT good. Don't sleep on the shrimp with head-on! Get it spicy with their Shaking sauce and get a bunch napkins - you'll need them. Also their Cajun wings are fantastic - dry rub, no sauce. Definitely call in your order - maybe it's because of Covid, but they were out of a couple things we wanted.

Denada B.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Shaking Seafood since I live in Roslindale. I chose the most popular dish, the King Crab and Shrimp with No Head Combo + Cajun sauce... It was alright but definitely not worth the price, the ratio was very little just three crab lags, around 20 shrimps, three very small potatoes and half a corn. I would be ok with a small ratio for the price of $54 if the taste was amazing but the taste was meh. I enjoyed the crab legs but the shrimp on the other hand not that much.. I was also left unsatisfied and still hungry after finishing the dish which shouldn't happen for the amount paid. I would recommend getting individual bags since their price seems more reasonable instead of the King crab and Shrimp with No Head Combo.

Leslie R.

Yelp
So just got the fried shrimp basket and the Fried soft shell crab basket.. it's delicious!!! Plus the service for pick up is wonderful. Very polite and friendly The customer before had an issue with her card and the girl went ahead and called the Credit card company to make sure that the customer was not going to get charged 3 times .. you hardly ever see anyone do that . I will definitely go back to try more items

Lynne L.

Yelp
This review is for the delivery experience, as I have yet to dine in. (Stupid pandemic.) You know, sometimes you just crave something fried and decadent, so you order it as a treat, cheat meal, whatever... and it arrives coldish and soggy? That's not what happens here. I've ordered takeout twice in the last few months and both times the food arrived on time, hot, and still crispy. It's awesome. May I recommend the fried soft shell crab? Sooo goood

Sharon C.

Yelp
RIP OFF!!!! So I've been getting the King Crab legs since before, during and after the Pandemic. Although the prices has gradually increased I didn't mind paying the price because they have the best King Crabs so that I've tasted in Boston...and I've been to all of the spots including Captin Louie in Braintree. Today I call to confirm that they've actually had them because there have been times when I drove from Newton to Roslindale only to be told they have none in stock. I called to confirm at 2:30pm and told him I would call when I was on my way...sure no problem he made sure to tell me they're $51...No Problem. So when I get closer and wen to call me order in he tells me they've changed "since COvid"...something about the weight ...blah blah balh...long story short they now give you 1 leg for $51 dollars...mind you this leg is the same size it's always been...he implied it'd be COLLOSAL...NOT! SO in my opinion you pay some price less food...1 less whole crab leg!!! Pimping ain't easy...never ago!!!Tasted good as always (potato was hard tho) but I refuse to pay them $51 for 1 King crab leg!

Neesie G.

Yelp
I was craving seafood and despite some of the negative reviews for Shaking Seafood, decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did. I got two orders of Boil Bag B w/ All The Flavors for takeout. It was ready when I arrived and packed well enough to survive my 1 hr drive home. After unwrapping everything I could see that the portion sizes were humongous. (Only about 1/3 of the meal is pictured in my photo). I've had a lot of seafood boils but none so flavorful as this. This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I was thrilled to have the leftovers the next day. Shaking Seafood has a new customer for life.

Princess W.

Yelp
I love this place this is one of the best restaurant I've ever been to the food is great and the customer service is number one love it I'll definitely come back again

Yelp
Prices are a bit high but the King Crab kegs and sauce is delicious! Which the amount of food was bigger as well but for a nice seafood dinner this is great!

Barbara O.

Yelp
Great prices for seafood. Took my nephew there from PA for his fill of seafood and he got his fill.

Yolanda B.

Yelp
Girl likey! This place is awesome. You get a lot for you money. Such a fun experience. The staff was so nice and very welcoming! Brings me back to the times on the bayou We will be back soon ya hear!

Rachel S.

Yelp
When I come to new England I like to have seafood. On this visit I checked my handy yelp app and found that Shaking Seafood was not far from me. I hopped on over and grabbed a table before the dinner rush. I started with a Blue Moon draft. I was then served a small dish of complimentary movie style popcorn. Delicious! On the chalkboard there was a nice list of specials and I chose the lobster and shrimp combination. I requested the "Shaking Sauce" seasoning (a combination of all the seasonings) prepared mild. Soon I was served a large bag of steamed fresh seafood. The waitress opened it for me and the aroma and food inside was delectable. The seafood was prepared perfectly. The Lobster was so tasty and the shrimp had heads off but remainder of the shell on. It was served with two round potatoes and half corn on the cob. The sauce was so delicious I was considering requesting a spoon to soup it up. Every bite of this dish was incredible. I also liked the fact that they crack the lobster shells for you. It makes it a lot easier to scoop out the delicious lobster meat from inside. It was also cleaned very well. The portion was huge and I was full halfway through. Overall the food is totally deserving of five stars. I only took one star off because the bibs were faulty and I ended up with butter and red grease all over my shirt underneath the flappy bib. Highly recommend this place

S R.

Yelp
I've eaten the crab legs a couple of times and they're good. Have you ever been so hungry you eat anything? That was me today.I ordered the lemon pepper wings, onion rings, corn & mango mousse. I'm not mad because I know better than to order what I did from a seafood place. But they shouldn't bother to offer these items. Only thing good about the wings are they aren't oily like so many other places. They weren't cooked all the way through and they could kick up the lemon pepper flavor a lot. The onion rings weren't even brown. I'm assuming the barely fried them. The mango mousse is really good. But over all yuck. But I do recommend the crab legs

Becca P.

Yelp
Came here after work. I was surprised by how big this space is. They gave us popcorn to start. It was stale. Service was a little slow. Menu is small so it's not hard to pick what I want quickly. I ordered a pound of baby clams and half pound of shrimp in the medium shaking sauce. My bf got the wings and sweet potato fries since he is allergic to shellfish. The food was flavorful and had the right amount of spice. My bf loved the wings. The fries were crunchy on the outside but soft inside. Honestly, the food tasted great but I got food poisoning hence the deduction in stars. I felt horrible after until the next day. My cousin told me she went here too on a separate occasion and also got food poisoning. You have been warned. I am torn because the food tasted great but getting sick is not fun.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place for the first time on a trip to Boston with the family, and the husband and I were back the following week! The trip is worth it! The portions are great - especially considering the cost of seafood at market price!! - and the flavors are unparalleled. This is a hidden gem that has great service and fantastic food for more than a fair price. If you love flavorful foods and have a big appetite, this is the place to go. We leave happy every time. Side note: love the quaint town feel, homey atmosphere and Sharpie autographed wall.

Thena H.

Yelp
I love this place! Pros: The sauce wasn't overbearing and oily like Shaking Crab Their fried shrimp is THE best!! Their fries were crispy and seasoned light The portions match the price you're paying Cons: They don't have full bar service The menu doesn't have the option of adding on a lobster tail. You have to buy the full lobster I will say that not having the option to buy cocktails surely made me reevaluate how much I spent at Shaking Crab!

Ajah P.

Yelp
I think this place is amazing and for the most part decently priced. I love their Cajun sauce and I especially love their mussels! To get the most bang for your buck I would just get a combo bag. One thing I would change is that the king crab legs only comes with the two legs and it costs $35. It should at least come with shrimp without the head for $40, already paying that much anyways. Another thing I'm waiting for is for them to get on grub huh and Uber eats so I don't have to leave when I'm craving it.
