The 20 Best Brunch Restaurants In Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"The big and crispy chicken and waffles at Shugga Hi are worth the trip to this Dickerson Pike spot alone. And if your craving for maple-soaked fried bird and gridded pastry happens to fall on a Sunday, you’ll be right on time for the Jazz and Eggs Sunday brunch. It’s a 90-minute all-you-can-eat live music affair that feels more like a big family cookout and less like a Kenny G comeback vehicle. The eponymous eggs (scrambled, by the way) are on the menu as are an all-star lineup of Southern and soul food classics like smothered pork chops, cabbage and collards, cornbread, and donut casserole—all of which is included in the $36 price. What isn’t included: drinks from the mimosa bar and Shugga Hi’s chicken and waffles. But it’s criminally wrong to pass up either one." - jackie gutierrez jones 2, ann walczak

Truthfully upon pulling up to this quaint little blue building on the corner, I wanted to turn around. I’m so glad I didn’t. I felt at home as soon as I walked in where Mrs. Cathy was greeting everyone at the door as if she knew just what you needed. We ordered the chicken and waffles and turkey sausage omelette. I was blown away by the flavor on the chicken, the sweet waffles, and the Hennessy honey syrup 😋😋😋. The omelet was well seasoned and cooked nicely. Our waitress, Sedonna, was sweet, kind, and helpful. Next time I’ll have to try the buffet. The atmosphere was warm (literally) and the live music a sweet addition. I’ll definitely be back! 10/10 recommend!!

Google
Shugga Hi is the kind of place that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in! From the warm hospitality to the mouthwatering aroma in the air, you just know you’re about to have a great meal. The buffet-style breakfast and dinner give you plenty of options, and everything I tried was fresh, flavorful, and made with love. The fried chicken was crispy and perfectly seasoned, the waffles were light and fluffy, and the entire spread was full of Southern comfort. And to top it all off, Shugga Kat herself stopped by to say hello, making the experience even more special. If you're in Nashville and looking for incredible food with a welcoming atmosphere, Shugga Hi should be at the top of your list! I’ll definitely be back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Hidden gem for sure. It’s on the pricey side but the portions are big. The food was amazing and having live music playing really topping the experience. Would definitely recommend and I’ll be going back next time.

Google
Last day in Nashville & looked up places for breakfast. This place was 10/10! They had a Sunday all you can eat with a live jazz player. Great food & fun atmosphere!

Google
This is definitely a hidden gem, food really was amazing. I had "steak and such," on the menu. The steak was perfectly seasoned, and cooked the way I asked for it. The home fries were cooked well, and the grits were so creamy! The staff were very friendly, and helpful. The jazz musician was a treat for the ears. The overall feel of the restaurant was quaint and very homey feeling. The owner came to our table to make sure everything was to our liking. Definitely give it a try!

I love this place! I brought out-of-town friends for a breakfast on a Saturday morning. Everything was delicious and the staff if wonderfully attentive! Nashville staple.

Google
My husband and I were inspired to check this place out, and we’re so glad we did — no regrets whatsoever! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food? Absolutely phenomenal. We had the breakfast buffet, and let me just say… the grits were out of this world. I had three bowls — they were that good! Everything was full of flavor, clearly made with love, and left us completely satisfied. The service was just as sweet as the name suggests — friendly, welcoming, and attentive. You can feel the heart behind this place, and it makes the whole experience unforgettable. Shugga Hi is definitely a gem we’ll be coming back to again and again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious food and good vibes! 💕🍴

Google
As someone who is from the area but lives out of state this restaurant brought back the feeling of home immediately! I visited with my aunts and it was our first time and we will absolutely be back! I can’t recommend the stuffed biscuits enough I’ve never had anything like them and they were absolutely amazing. I think the breakfast potatoes were THE BEST breakfast potatoes I’ve ever had! Our server was extremely nice and made it even more of a joy to visit. I never leave reviews but this place deserves to be packed every day. The staff was so amazing and the food was some of the best I’ve had in a very long time.

Yelp
Stopped in during their Sunday Brunch. There was so many food options and the staff was so kind! I ordered a waffle and it was beyond amazing. Perfectly cooked, fluffy and sweet. The food was made to order and fresh out of the kitchen. I will definitely be returning! Love supporting a Black owned business!

Yelp
Got the chicken and waffles but husband and mother-in-law got the combo brunch/dinner buffet. Collective review: Sweet and savory down home cooking! Greeted like family and live jazz singer made for a great family Sunday brunch
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing experience. We were traveling through and Shugga Hi was the perfect spot to stop for lunch. The Sunday buffet was delicious and the kids discounts (and free lunches) were awesome. Hit the spot. Thanks so much!

Yelp
Can't say enough about this establishment! The food is AMAZING! The customer service is Above & Beyond (1of the owners came over and greeted us) It's such a family oriented restaurant. The live music was enjoyable & PERFECT (not to loud, like other places) You can also rent out the building for special occasions. They get a 10 out of 10 from me!

Yelp
If good food, spirit of generosity and community is your thing, this is your place. The breakfast buffet items were delicious. Kathy, the owner is a gem and our server, Ronin was wonderful. Added bonus was a fabulous jazz guitarist/singer who was great and just the right volume. Not only do they offer great food and a warm atmosphere, they also take care of the hungry in the community. Shugga Hi gets two thumbs up from me.

Yelp
Don't walk, RUN to Shugga Hi. I've lived here for 2 years and this is by far the best breakfast I've had in Nashville. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was incredibly crispy and not greasy. The waffles are the fluffiest I've ever had. The syrup is amazing and I wish I could've bought an entire bottle. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but it's impeccably clean with gorgeous art on the wall and live music. The owners clearly take pride in their work and walk around the restaurant frequently. We will absolutely be coming back.
google avatar

Nina E.

Yelp
Brunch is good you have choice of breakfast or lunch/dinner items to choose from. Today is live music. The food is soul food and it's very savory! Service is on point and the owner introduced herself and gave the guests the history of Shugga Hi Cafe. I found that the history of the restaurant was very inspiring. Every seat is taken and people are enjoying each other's company. Check it out!

Yelp
Cute, quaint spot. We were greeted by an owner and the very friendly staff. We enjoyed the soulful sounds of the musician playing acoustic guitar. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. The waffle! It was a perfect blend of cake and waffle. I'm glad we were able to support this black business!

Jan I.

Yelp
Wow just had a great breakfast! Had their signature chicken and waffles and they did not disappoint. The outside doesn't look like much but inside you get a nice vibe! The owner Cathy is a delightful. She came out to talk about all the different things she has going on this month... little sad I was just passing through and would not be there for a few of the events. We were there on a Thursday but it sounds like on the weekends that they sometimes have Jazz performers .. If I were ever in this area I would definitely come back.. #Hometownfavorites. #women #community #smallbusinesa

Yelp
In town for TSU homecoming and our Airbnb was across the street from this restaurant. Of course we found it on Yelp now on to the restaurant. I absolutely thought it was cute. It is woman owned and she gave us the history of the restaurant. We got there right when it opened so they were still kinda getting settled and such!! Overall the food was good. I'd say they would need a few more staff members. I really don't have anything negative to say! I'd recommend and say that everyone should try this restaurant and I'm excited about sharing this!

Yelp
Loved it the owner and employees gave genuine service. There was a variety of food choices, drinks, live music and perfect atmosphere.

Karen M.

Yelp
The $70+ paid for two buffets wasn't worth it at all. It wasn't the amount. It was what we got for the amount. I'll pay for good food any day and never complain. The service was the best, everyone was exceptionally friendly, the entertainment was nice, but the food (which was what we went for) left a lot to be desired. It wasn't hot, not even the made to order eggs, and the seasoning wasn't done right, not at all. If the vegetables were fresh, they weren't cooked properly because they weren't good either, that is with the exception of the pinto beans. The chicken and neckbones were tasty, but beyond that....can't say anything else was good. In addition to the lack of good taste, there's a concern when you get a charge for a buffett, THEN still get an additional charge for the waffles (nope, they didn't mention pancakes at all...). It wasn't like a charge for a beverage. Where does that fit in? I doubt that I or my guest will be returning, but I wish this establishment luck!! No pics because nothing really appealed to me.

Yelp
We had Breakfast and our visit was just full of Hospitality and love. Food was great and the biscuits were delicious!

Yelp
Fantastic! It was a great brunch and a special experience. The owner was so kind and talked about her story while we were eating. Also a cool vibe with a guitar player in the background. The chicken and waffles- eaten by my son and fiancés grandson was the best they had even had. The Da meat bomb was really good. I had the ribeye steak and it was really well cooked and seasoned. A cool experience on the east side. They really take care of their customers. We will be back!

Yelp
Visited recently. Had a strawberry banana mimosa that was pretty good. Had chicken and waffles and a piece of fish. The chicken wasn't seasoned enough for me. The fish was very good though and the people were nice.

Yelp
This was my first visit to this wonder establishment, the owner, the staff and even the chefs were so accommodating. I was with a group of 7 and we all enjoyed our entrees as well as the one man show of music as we were serenaded as we ate. Great artwork throughout the restaurant. Excellent food. Great location. Go! Go! Go! Did I mention the entire restaurant sang happy birthday to me too! This was everything!!

Yelp
Extremely cute place with great food, service, music, AND Black woman owned -- what could be better?? We came for Saturday brunch around 11 and snagged the lash available table (they don't take reservations FYI). Very unique, eclectic decor with a bakery case & sitting area at the entrance and about 10 tables in the main dining area. There is a small stage up front and we got to enjoy some great live music that was not too loud for us to still have a conservation. Signs indicated that they are short staffed, but our service was fantastic. The couple of servers seemed to be doing everything: we saw them making drinks, running food, bussing, taking orders, and seating people. They hustled nonstop and apologized to us for the wait even when we really weren't kept waiting at all. Our food and drinks came out quite fast. They have a huge number of mimosa flavors, so we tried the regular mimosa and the pear mimosa. Both were great! The coffee was nothing special. I had to try the chicken & waffles and my boyfriend got the meat stuffed biscuits. My waffle tasted vanilla infused (so good) and the chicken was nice & crispy. I also love that it came with an egg on the side! The stuffed biscuits were incredibly good too. Prices are quite reasonable: we got two entrees, two mimosas, and one coffee for under $50.

Yelp
So my wife and I were an hour early for our brunch reservations at Sean Brock's Audrey (3 minutes down the road) we stopped into Shugga Hi thinking we could grab a cup of coffee, only to find that on Sundays they only have a buffet service. We were greeted by the owner Kathy and she explained to us, and then immediately sat us down at a table and got us some coffee. We were trying to excuse ourselves simply because we didn't want to take up her table space, but she would hear none of it! My wife did order a pineapple mimosa which she loved and after sharing and laughing with Kathy for about 30 minutes or more she sent us on to our reservations with a sampling of her buffet. At first I thought she was being kind to the two folks who mistakenly stumbled into her restaurant, but looking back I think she knew how hungry we would be after leaving brunch at Audrey. As much as I wanted to try Audrey (as a foodie) I truly regret not cancelling that reservation and celebrating life and food with Kathy and her friends at Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe because the contrast in experiences and food cannot be over stated! I hope many locals and Nashville visitors alike continue to share with Kathy because this humble restaurant is a beautiful jewell in Nashville's crown!! Thank you so much for your gracious hospitality, and the wonderful food that sustained two hungry travelers!! We will absolutely be visiting again when we are next in Nashville!!

Yelp
What a great find while vacationing in Nashville. We had six in our party from Florida and Georgia. The owner treated us as if we were her house guests! She told us about the history of the business. And the work they do feeding people in need. The Food was great too! We believe in supporting Black-owned businesses, especially good ones! Will come back whenever we are in town! Sorry, we missed the Sunday Brunch.

Bonnie B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Service was slow. We hated asking for anything seems like everyone there was too busy.

Brian K.

Yelp
We were in Nashville this weekend and found this little hidden gem. We liked it so much we ate breakfast here both mornings. The food was awesome! On our first visit, I had Da Bomb that was recommended to us. Scratch made biscuits stuffed with bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese then brushed with honey butter. It was incredible! Also had one of the mimosas... perfect start to day drinking! On Sunday morning, it was buffet day! The sausage gravy was incredible, biscuits were fluffy and buttery, but the icing on the cake... err donut, was the donut casserole. It was sweet and gooey with fresh fruit and donut glaze. What really puts this place above everywhere else we experienced was the service. Every member of the team on both days made us feel welcome and like family the moment we walked in the door. Next time we're in Nashville, we'll be back!

Erin P.

Yelp
poor slow service, terrible cold waffle, not as advertised would never come back. Should have known when it was half empty on a Friday morning. Not sure where the people ate who had a good experience
google avatar

Ahmed A.

Yelp
Gloomy days call for comfort food, and what better than Chicken & Waffles from Shugga Hi Located on the Dickerson Side of East Nashville, Shugga Hi is only open 3 Days a week, but the wait is WORTH IT! The vibes of the staff, the atmosphere of the cafe, all add the wonderful experience that is topped off with incredible food!
google avatar

Ali V.

Yelp
We had an excellent experience at Shugga Hi Bakery. Walking in being greeted right away, to the food, music in the background, the lovely owner personally coming to the table to make sure that everything was great. We all had different breakfast dishes, and all were sooooo delicious. da Bomb with breakfast potatoes, chicken and waffles, tatter tot waffle, and the Catherine dish. We would go back again in the heartbeat! They nailed everything about this place!
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
We went on Sunday in the middle of the day and were glad to find they still have live jazz! They were busy but we quickly got seats at the bar. I appreciated how thoroughly they cleaned everything in between patrons. We got the chicken and waffles and the fish and waffles. Both were delicious. We were hungry and I ate before thinking to take pictures of the food but I have pictures of the current menu! Like many places these days, they seemed short staffed and everyone was working hard. Just be kind and patient and you'll get a wonderful meal! Thank you, Shugga Hi, for continuing to offer a friendly place to eat in our neighborhood.

Tami G.

Yelp
I really wanted to like and support this place. It was just ok. I can go anywhere for just ok. The chicken tenders lacked salt and seasonings in the breading. The waffle crumbled apart and the taste was just ok. The syrup was good and our sever Ronin was a blessing. Really all the staff were attentive and kind. Loved the gentleman who played the jazz oldies.
google avatar

LaTasha A.

Yelp
Restaurant is small, however, they have a stage and a guy was singing. He was a great added touch. Music was slightly loud trying to hear the waitress (with her mask). Menu is limited. Taste of syrup or something was awful. Couldn't enjoy/appreciate the waffle. Chicken wings were good.

hunter b.

Yelp
If you're looking for some authentic southern comfort food, this place is will become an instant favorite. We went on a Sunday morning to find a buffet of all the classics lying out. The staff was no nice and wholesome on top of the live music in the background. The second the chicken and waffles touched my taste buds I had to stop everything as the crunchy explosions of sweet and salty flavors finally were married together from the aromatic air to my mouth. Highly recommended
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
Fish was so good! Grits were a bit bland but atmosphere was so good! Live music is a bonus as well! Family owned establishment!
google avatar

AnnaMaria C.

Yelp
The owner was so inviting and friendly. My guests got the waffle burger and chicken and waffles and both looked amazing! Great food for a great price!

Yelp
In town for the weekend and stopped at this place for breakfast. So glad we did!!!! Food was amazing, staff and the owner were so nice and chatted with us. Definitely will be back!!!
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
Wow!!! So please come to this place... Sunday brunch is unbelievable. They have so many choices from breakfast items to lunch items and desserts! Service was super attentive and nice. The food was delicious and fresh. Very flavorful and well made. They had eggs, bacon, potatoes, the French toast were so yummy. They had catfish, chicken and veggies too. The live music just puts the cherry on top! Great place definitely and I will be coming back for more!
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
I love this place for the food, the welcoming and relaxed environment along with good cocktails! A must visit for a great brunch and good company.

Yelp
Here for 24 hour layover, saw Shugga Hi on IG, decided to give it a try. So glad we did, amazing staff, beautiful artwork, talented musicians And ohhhhhhhh the food! Yummmmm, we both had the Fried Chicken and waffles, I highly recommend giving this off the tourist path a go, it's just a quick Lyft/Uber ride and we'll worth it.
google avatar

Vicki G.

Yelp
First, let me say that everyone that works here is wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The brunch buffet was extremely good, with nice, crispy bacon, flaky biscuits, crispy breakfast potatoes, and a donut casserole that had me returning for a second helping. Nice jazz guitarist playing, that added a relaxing and fun ambiance. We will definitely be going back.

Sara V.

Yelp
As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by multiple people with wonderful Southern hospitality. That's a 10/10 in customer service! Then once you get the food it tastes absolutely delicious! Well-seasoned and very tasty. I especially love the Swai fish which is apparently a catfish (and I usually hate catfish) but I ate all of the fish on my plate because it was so delicious! Also fried chicken and biscuits are on point! You must absolutely must stop in for a meal . Oh! And there was live music. Can't beat it!

Darren R.

Yelp
Excellent food. The all-you-can-eat buffet is southern comfort you'd find in the Deep South! I really enjoyed the strawberry banana mimosa, the fried chicken, and the fried fish. The owner was so friendly and does so much for the community. The live music was also an added bonus!

Jelesia M.

Yelp
I really don't even know where to begin! The food is amazing! The atmosphere is amazing!! Service is top notch! Next time I'm in Nashville, I'm going back! We went for Sunday brunch, which is buffet style. We did have a wait but it was less than 15 minutes.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Loved Shugga High! The chicken and waffles were great but the Da Bomb breakfast biscuits were where it was at. Topped mine off with a Pineapple Mimosa (one of 6 flavors). Such a good find!

Yvette C.

Yelp
The customer service was excellent. The guitarist added to the ambiance, The chicken and waffles and the mimosas were delicious!
google avatar

Chelsie K.

Yelp
Food was delicious, and don't let the small menu scare you away because the portions were generous. The service was very good! Upon arrival, I was greeted immediately and escorted to a table. The staff member made sure everyone was taken care of and no need went unmet. The place is quite small but very cozy, as if you were at family's house. I went on a Saturday morning and there was a live musician. I will be returning!

Samantha T.

Yelp
Not only is the food really good but it was made with love. The owner shared the story of how she and her sister started their business and their mission in doing so. It was such a loving atmosphere and everyone was so kind. It was a great ending to my bachelorette weekend in Nashville.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food. The service was pretty bad. There was only one server but the restaurant was not crowded. Took forever to get water and even longer for a glass of champagne. Orders did not come out correct. The owner was super nice about it & the displayed desserts looked great. The Dickerson Sunrise ($6.95) was pretty good. Grits were a tad watery. Eggs cooked nice & fluffy. Standard sausage & typical toast. Would've ordered more champagne but I didn't want to wait another 30.
google avatar

Hunter S.

Yelp
Breakfast or a baked good, and everything is gonna be alright. Haven't been for the bar, or lunch but excited to have another newish place in the neighborhood owned by locals and not Dallas developers.
google avatar

Grace A.

Yelp
I called ahead of time after learning that most places had at least a 2 hour wait for my party of 5, and the wonderful hosts mentioned she had a table for me if I could be there soon. I walked in, was immediately seated and served with drinks. Most of ordered chicken and waffles, of which I name myself a connoisseur, and they absolutely lived up to my expectations. One of our party members ventured out and got the waffle burger, which was also amazing. This was one of the best spots on the outskirts of Nashville if you don't want the craziness of broadway. We will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Ruu B.

Yelp
All of the casseroles were delicious. The meats were plentiful and the music was delightful. Location is great but parking is not so good.

Mark C.

Yelp
Shugga Hi is cozy restaurant and bakery on Dickerson Rd (close to downtown). It is a gem. The customer service and southern hospitality are excellent. They have live entertainment that helps to add to the ambience. But, best of all, the food is SOOO GOOD!!! It's an all you can eat buffet and they have a great variety of dishes...fried chicken, fish, kale salad, and more. The donut casserole, peach cobbler, and other desserts are delicious, too. We have been here twice and plan to return more in the future.
google avatar

Jasper L. H.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. The owners are extremely not very and the food is AMAZING! The only set-back is sometime service can be a little slow...BUT you kinda forget that when your food arrives...lol Brunch is the best in the city!
google avatar

Yelp
When I first moved to Nashville, lived very close to Shugga Hi! Their hours & days are limited so call ahead - it's well worth it! The owners and management are warm & friendly. The food is delicious. - chicken & waffles! They have live music - which wasn't overpowering and very nice.
