Shy Shy - Review - Chelsea - New York - The Infatuation

"Jungle Bird, which has long been one of the most reliable places to drink in Chelsea, has a younger sibling. Shy Shy is located right across the street, and the West Coast-inspired bar has a menu item called “Oh! You Like It Dirty,” a martini served over pebbled ice, like some kind of decadent snow cone. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Every Beef Noodle Soup Tells a Story. And Shy*Boyz Club Has Some Stories. | Bon Appétit

"A collaborative pop-up where two NYC chefs cook together to explore Chinese food’s past, present, and future and to celebrate the cuisine’s enormous regional and diasporic diversity; the project highlights how a single dish like beef noodle soup can be many things depending on region and technique, bringing together contrasting approaches such as delicate Chaozhou-style clear brisket broth, Cantonese restraint, and richer, tomato-forward bone broths, along with differing noodle traditions and vegetable accompaniments." - ByMeryl Rothstein and Jesse Sparks

Overall rating: 4.65 I saw this place on the Tok & it’s really cute. It’s very spacious! Which is always my big fear when it comes to cute. The bartender was really nice and I enjoyed my cocktail, but wow, the music was so loud! Loud enough, that I wonder if I was there on a date - we wouldn’t be able to hear ourselves. It screams a date place so I’m not ready to discount it yet. If I’m in the area & im looking to go out, I usualllly default to Jungle Bird across the street. But def adding this to my rotation!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Shy Shy. It’s such an aesthetically pleasing place and they had a great happy hour menu during the time I visited. The drinks were so good and the fries and oysters were delicious. The waiter even treated my sister and I to glasses of rose in honor of my birthday. Hope to be back!

Great spot with an amazing vibe! The atmosphere is cozy and stylish, with great music that really sets the tone. The cocktails are top-notch—super creative and well-made. I haven’t tried a lot from the food menu yet, but what I have had so far has been really good. The staff is fantastic—friendly, welcoming, and very accommodating. Big shoutout to Johnny at the bar—he’s awesome and really makes the experience even better!

I came here with one of my friends one evening to catch up and just grab drinks. The interior of the space is dimly lit, romantic, and has cute decor. Service was kind and pretty quick with both food and drinks. I just got a glass of wine, while my friend got a dirty martini and a caesar salad. I loved my wine, and I would definitely come back to their other wines. My friend enjoyed the salad, but unfortunately found out that day that dirty martinis are not her thing haha. Fortunately, the staff was so kind and we were able to get a different drink for her. Prices are reasonable here, and food is solid. I would just note that this place does get pretty packed and it CAN get hard to hear whoever you're with if you're sitting at a table as they're so close together (I felt like I was yelling half the time). But nonetheless, a cute spot with good drinks.

I happened to pass by this place and decided to enter. The ambiance (interior, music) is outstanding, and kind staff. The beverage was excellent, not overly weak, but sweet which I find ideal. The entire restaurant had incredible aroma/smell, remarkable!!!! experience for me.

Asked the host to be seated outside and they said no because once you’re seated you can’t move even though no one was outside. Receive attitude for no reason even though my party had spent hundreds buying drinks. Was not given a reason why we couldn’t sit outside. The rest of the service was good and drink were good. Didn’t like the attitude from the host for just asking to sit outside. I prefer better hospitality

My husband and I love this place. The happy hour is solid ($5 fries?! They’re perfect.) and the service is always extremely friendly. This is great for both weeknights and a Sunday afternoon. If you’re in Chelsea, looking for a good glass of wine or martini and outdoor seating, check them out.

You can tell the chef knows and loves his craft. This was an absolutely beautiful collection of food -- the hummus is to die for, the short kings in a blanket are a delight and I'm still going to be thinking about the drinks and all of the dips we tried for a while. Absolutely yummy.

Yelp
I fell for another TikTok trap. I saw their caesar salad martini and had to give it a try. Big mistake. The martini itself just tastes like a watered down dirty martini. The only thing that makes this martini a "caesar salad martini" is the fact that it comes with a single piece of romaine lettuce with some caesar dressing and parmesan on it, to enjoy along with the martini. Our server was attentive and extremely accommodating, all things considered. I choked down my martini but my friend couldn't do it and they were understanding and allowed her to replace it with another cocktail which was better, but still nothing to write home about. It's definitely a younger vibe here -- music blasting with a DJ spinning on a random weeknight, like why? TL;DR - If you're here because of TikTok, you're going to be disappointed.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has good reviews. Other than having a nice atmosphere, my friend and I were really unimpressed. We came for the happy hour and unfortunately the martinis were not very good. The dirty martini was a little too filthy -- you couldn't taste any of the vodka. To be fair, it says on the menu it will be really dirty, so we ended up ordering a second and asked for them to put less olive juice so we could taste more of the vodka. Bar still made it way too dirty, tasted the same as the first, and the quality of the juice just isn't very good. Food was average. Fries were good, but it's hard to mess that up. French onion labneh doesn't taste like French onion, more like sour cream and onion? What started to annoy us was that we still had food on our plates and multiple people came around and asked if they could clear them. This pushiness only escalated. We had a reservation for 5 pm and had only been at our table a little over 2 hours. Mind you, we're not just sitting there chatting -- we continued to order drinks and food. At 7:10 a woman approaches our table (one of the staff members who tried to clear our half-eaten food earlier) and says they're going to need our table for another reservation. I'm not new to the New York restaurant scene -- I realize most places need to turn over tables. The problem is, they don't indicate anywhere in Resy or your confirmation that reservations are only a certain period of time. If you only want people to stay for two hours, you need to put that somewhere in writing like other places do. We didn't fight with her; the drinks were bad so we decided to order our uber immediately after she told us she'd need the table. I kid you not, the uber hadn't even located a driver yet when she came back over and aggressively said "ok bye ladies I'm gonna need to take this table now byeeee". Really disgusting and poor hospitality. It's not on the customers if you don't manage how many reservations you have properly. Would not come back here and would never recommend this to our friends.

Yelp
Pretty decent cocktail bar with a nice back area. Great for large and small groups. The cocktails themself were pretty solid. Liked the gimlet the most.

Yelp
We came here at 4pm on a Wednesday and it was PACKED! Definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. The interior is really nicely decorated. There is one handicap accessible restroom on the main floor, the rest are down a steep flight of stairs to the basement. The happy hour menu is *extremely* limited but the prices are good if it has something you like - such as $5 beers, $5 French fries. The fries were drenched in garlic which was great for taste but not a good option if you're on a date or going out afterwards. There is no option for any red wine on the happy hour menu, which was strange. Most wines are $15-$20. Could not give it a better review because the bar staff using the glass washing station were an absolute mess. We - as well as the people sitting next to us - were quite literally getting splashed as the bartender was flipping glasses over after using the rinser without drying them so any water in the bowl was splashing everywhere. Every few minutes he would run a bar rag over the puddles that were on the stone, on the menus, splashing all over people's cell phones that they placed on the bar. He was also storing clean glasses on the bar top rather than behind or under the bar, limiting the space patrons had for drinks or food plates.

Yelp
This place demonstrated real talent. Highest satisfaction. Discovering this place by accident was fortunate. I'll definitely make a point to eat at Shy Shy again. The food satisfied us, staff was friendly, and our time there was nice.

Yelp
New addition to the neighborhood behind Jungle Bird. Interesting cocktail menu but they are all batched so adjustment isn't possible. (I prefer less sweet usually)... Martini was great, enough savory yet balanced. Tried the Dip during HH which the waitress strongly recommended - French Onion dip, yet it tastes more like dill and artichoke in sour cream, didn't love it. Feel like just fridge cleaning sell. It was heavy. Other than the bites, cute place to visit.

Yelp
Wanted to try ShyShy since it opened! Stopped in on a Sunday night. It was pretty crowded and lively. We didn't have a reservation but were able to get a high top table. The entrance is accessible. They have one accessible bathroom on the ground floor and more bathrooms down a flight of stairs. We both had a Caesar salad martini which was pretty good. They serve it with a piece of lettuce with an anchovy on it. I'm a vegetarian so I did not eat the anchovy and gave it to my friend. The martini itself has a peppery vibe and was refreshing. We shared deviled eggs. They were a classic deviled egg with no frills. They only give you 3 though - wish they gave you 4 for an even split. Overall, the service was good and attentive and the place had a great vibe. I would come back and try another kind of drink!

Yelp
The happy hour deal at this bar is sooo good especially on weekdays. The cocktails are good and pretty strong, and all areas are so good for pictures if you want to take any. Service is so fun I loved them

Yelp
Was looking into places to pop into for a drink before a dinner reservation, super happy I landed upon Shy Shy. They have a great happy hour and my the Cosmic Cranberry cocktail with a splash of grapefruit was refreshing and delicious. Didn't have any food but the menu looked amazing and will be back to try it. This place gives me unfussy cocktail bar with an airy beachy california-esque vibe.

Yelp
Went to try the infamous Caesar Salad Martini. The martini is served with a little skewer of romaine lettuce, anchovy, and dressing as a side bite to bring out the flavor of the cocktail. The deviled eggs were good. The bar was hopping but there were a couple free tables so we didn't need to wait. Service was speedy. I would go back again to try a different drink.

Yelp
Drinks and shrimp were great with attentive service, music was a bit loud but interiors are beautiful.

Yelp
Cocktails were great. We had the espresso martini and oh so dirty dirty martini and both were delish. The space is brand new and huge. I'm not usually in this part of the city at night but will definitely keep it in mind if I am.

Yelp
I think I saw this place on social media? Either scrolling or someone shared it with me. I had to come try the caesar martini. The martini itself was really good. The little salad bite didn't really add anything to it for me. Ordered a big bowl of fries that were also delicious. Was there around 9:00 on a Saturday night and had a nice crowd. You'd miss the location if you didn't know it was there. I think it's a nice place to go if you're in the area.

Yelp
Martinis were good - service was rude & rushed. Had made a reservation and waiter disappeared only to return after an hour and tell us we need to pay our check - poor service.

Yelp
My partner and I stopped in here on Valentine's Day and we really enjoyed our experience! We didn't have reservations but were able to grab two seats at the bar despite it being a busy night for the holiday. Our bartender was welcoming as we got settled, as were the folks that greeted us at the door. We got the Leanne's Lavender Lemon Drop and the Take A Hike for our drinks and they were both delicious despite being a pre-batched cocktail. The lemon drop was refreshing and the lavender cordial and lavender sugar rim added a nice delicate touch to cut the acidity. The Take A Hike was a nice balance of sweet and spicy flavors. Our bartender also shared they were doing a Valentine's Day special of heart shaped latkes with a dill creamy sauce and a cranberry apple sauce that we had to try. The latkes were perfectly crisp and paired nicely with the sauces, plus the heart shape was a fun touch for the night. In addition to food and drink, we also really liked the decor and vibe of the space. It made the place feel interesting and warm even with the amount of people.

Yelp
The espresso martini was absolutely delicious as well as the sexy chill vibes. Great spot to catch up with a friend or even a first stop to a date.

Yelp
Tonight was our first visit to Shy Shy. We live in the neighborhood and witnessed its construction but travel and the holidays kept us from being one of the first to experience its splendor. We were welcomed by a delightful hostess who sat us and charmed us all the way to our table. Josh our server couldn't have been more gracious, patient and helpful explaining the menu and describing the drinks. The room decor is tasteful and dare I say serene. The color pallet is cool and sleek and everyone looks great in it. I would have preferred the lights to be a little dimmer, but we were there on the early side of the evening. Maybe they turn them down as the evening progresses. Unfortunately we stopped in for a libation on the way to dinner so we weren't able to try the food, but the dishes that passed by on the way to other tables looked delicious and we will definitely be back to try them. We have lived in the neighborhood long enough to have visited this space through many incarnations. I really wish Shy Shy the best and we will for sure be back with friends to support, and request to sit in Josh's section.

Yelp
This was the best experience I've had at a bar in NYC and I've lived here for 8 years! The service here is exceptional - BIG shout out to Dani (host) and Josh (server) who made our surprise engagement party unforgettable. We needed a last-minute spot to celebrate, and they carved out a private section for us without hesitation. We brought flowers, cake, and balloons, and the Shy Shy team went above and beyond to make everything smooth and fun. The vibe was lively, yet intimate, perfect for a celebration. Plus, the all-day Happy Hour on Sundays made it an amazing deal. Shy Shy is officially my go-to spot for any celebration in the city!

Yelp
LOVEEEDDDD these cocktails!! Definitely the best cocktails we had during our trip to NY. We came during Happy Hour so they were only $12 each!!! A STEAL!!! The vibes were great. Thank you to Mark for making the best drinks ever!!

Reagan N.

Yelp
Amazing happy hour!!! Go and get the dirty martini - they give you extra drink on the side with ice. The lemon drop is also a great treat.

Abigail B.

Yelp
Atmosphere is beautiful and our server was very attentive. We came for happy hour and we were very disappointed by the cocktails. We ordered the dirty martini, espresso martini, and the cranberry cosmo and we could not taste any liquor in any of them. To spend $12 for some juice in a martini glass is wild.
