"Though Sichuan Impression now has locations from Tustin to West LA, a visit to its original Alhambra space is a required pilgrimage. The warm, homey dining room has big tables and long wooden benches—making it a great spot for a communal dinner with family—and the Sichuan food is still among the best in the city. We love the meaty, succulent tea-smoked ribs, sinus-clearing mapo tofu, and cumin-laced toothpick lamb—a great dish for said communal dining. Also, don’t overlook the kung pao chicken: it’s sweet, not too salty, and will vanish within seconds of hitting the table. " - Brant Cox

"Sichuan Impression takes coronavirus precautions seriously by requiring a body-temperature check before dining at any of its three Southern California locations. Since late January, staff have used infrared thermometers to screen for fever and other symptoms. Customers who refuse a test are not allowed entry, and those with questionable symptoms are connected with medical services. An employee confirmed that this policy is strictly followed at all locations, which include Tustin, Alhambra, and West LA. The restaurant became popular for its specialties like boiled fish, tea-smoked pork ribs, cold Sichuan-style noodles, and mapo tofu." - Mona Holmes

Really delicious Sichuan food that is presented nicely and not overly spicy. Very popular spot on weekends. I went right when it opened on Saturday at 5pm and it quickly became packed with people. The food is great and pretty big portions with lots of options. Tasted authentic too, overall a great spot for Sichuan Chinese food.

It doesn’t get more authentic than this place. Sichuan Impression absolutely delivered on every entree I tried. Highly recommend the Mapo Tofu and Kung Pao Chicken.

Got the short ribs, intestines, and chicken wonton soup. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. My favorite was the stir fried intestines because it has more sichuan pepper and so that mala taste was stronger.

First impression, the place was packed on a Saturday night. Menu are scanned on the table, the guys do some around to get your order. We got mild for most of our dishes. The numbing chilies did it’s job. We really liked the beef noodle casserole and spicy wontons. The lamb mutton dish was good, since it’s mutton, the meat is not as tender. Overall we enjoyed all the dishes. Three dishes plus a beer. Total was about $40 per person.

Super spicy, and pretty tasty. The dumplings were definitely my favorite. The Smoked Tea Pork Ribs were a bit dry and not too spicy, unfortunately. The Chicken with Rattan Pepper was spicy but not too much flavor. I loved the Fried Rice Cake with Black Syrup, but if you're not into rice cake and super sweet stuff you might not like it!

This is the second time I’ve been here. Good food. A little expensive, but big portions. Definitely a place to check out if you’re into authentic, traditional Sichuan cuisine. We enjoyed the fried rice, kung pao chicken, stir-fried beef, and dumplings. The pork dumplings were good but the broth wasn’t my favorite. The mild fried rice is actually pretty spicy.

I wish there were more Sichuan restaurants like this in town. It has authentic flavors - I'm addicted to their rattan pepper chicken, toothpick lamb, spicy boiled beef, and many other dishes. I do wish they have "Yuxiang Rousi", and a few other traditional Sichuan dishes as well. There are areas they can improve: 1. Cleanliness. The food material is usually fresh, but the quality can dip on a Monday to Wednesday - I'd give it a 8/10. The restaurant's cleanliness rates about 6/10, with a horrific restroom and sticky chairs that detract from the atmosphere. 2. Service. Most the time, you must to pay and order from a QR code, the service is limited, possibly due to low tip expectations. Given that the average cost per person is between $30 and $50, they really need to improve their service. I'd rate the service 7/10. However, they do excel in presenting traditional street food and farm-style serving plates and bowls, earning a 9/10 for the presentation. Plus the unparalleled authentic Chinese flavors in Orange County leaves little competition, as most of the other local Chinese restaurants would only score lower in cleanliness, service and flavor. Meizhou Dongpo has better atmosphere and service, however, if you order Kung Pao chicken from them once, you'd find it worse than Panda Express.

Kick to the mouth spice and flavor🌶️. The chili, spices and aroma occupy your senses as you chow down on the dishes here. Would definitely eat here on a cold day as the food will definitely warm you up. I would recommend ordering the toothpick lamb to share and maybe two orders as they go out pretty quick because of how tasty it is. It gets really busy towards the evening and they would seat people both inside and outside. The staff was friendly and will help you order if you haven't tried szechuan cuisine before. Update: the dishes still deliver the same experience to this day and the restaurant continues to be busy in the evening.
