Sichuan Popo in Kensington serves up no-frills, addictive Sichuan and Shaanxi street food, featuring late-night dim sum and dumplings you'll crave.
"The only time we’re not craving dim sum is when we’re eating dim sum. That includes 8pm on a Tuesday when it’s kind of hard to find, and that’s when we like to come to Sichuan Popo. This sleek Chinese restaurant on Earls Court Road is a place where servers stare impatiently and unimpressed, notebook in hand, if you have the audacity to not know what you want. Plus dim sum is served until closing, and pillowy prawn and scallop dumplings are inhaled as soon as the steamer hits the table. The all-day dim sum isn’t all that’s great about this straightforward spot. It’s a haven for in-and-out, last-minute group dinners that involve passing peanutty smacked cucumbers across the table and swirling chewy biang biang noodles. Walk-ins wait as tables are quickly wiped down before they’re sat, handed a menu, and served their first dish all within 10 minutes. There’s no time for niceties at Sichuan Popo, just great-value dim sum and excellent gong bao king prawns. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Rianne Shlebak

"Near: Design Museum You might have thought you saw some cutting-edge things in the Design Museum but can anything beat the perfect design of a pillowy prawn and scallop dumpling? Sichuan Popo in Kensington is a no-nonsense Chinese restaurant specialising in Sichuan street food, and just a four-minute walk away. You'll find late-night dumplings, great-value dim sum, and excellent gong bao king prawns. It’s usually pretty easy to walk in without a wait too. Which is ideal because your feet are definitely aching after a big London day out. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, jake missing
"You’ll find a mix of people at this no-nonsense Chinese restaurant in Earl’s Court. But whether they're on a date or having a heated family dinner, one thing you should know is that everyone at Sichuan Popo is too focused on the bamboo steamers filled with pillowy prawn and scallop dumplings to notice the stain you’ve been passing off as “coffee from this morning” for three weeks in a row. The lighting is dim, the servers are to the point, and the dim sum is served until closing. Eat with your head held high and blame that stain on the gong bao king prawns. "From the team behind outstanding Chinese restaurants Xi’an Biang Biang Noodles and Tofu Vegan, Sichuan Popo brings a fleet of Sichuanese and Shaanxi dishes to W8. Chengdu’s xiao su rou, a starter of crisp, meltingly rich fried pork with Sichuan peppercorn, could be followed by mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, Xi’an biang biang noodles, or a hero dish from Xi’an Biang Biang: Chongqing xiaomian noodles in a lusciously oily, numbing broth." - Alexander Larman, Adam Coghlan
