Sizzle & Crunch Review - University District - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Sizzle & Crunch is a Vietnamese takeout scheme where the assembly line has toppings like pickled carrots, cucumbers, and jalapeño, as well as fried eggs and a particularly tasty cilantro sauce. And while it certainly works for a quick lunch, the University District is full of much better options if you're in a hurry, like Aladdin Gyro-Cery or Xi'an Noodles. And Seattle in general has much better bánh mì. You can order various proteins in the form of a sandwich, salad, or bowl with broken rice—but just note that things get drippier and soggier the more sauces you have the staff slather on." - Aimee Rizzo

Sizzle & Crunch Expands to South Lake Union - Eater Seattle

"Amazon Country just got a new lunch spot with plenty of college cred. Though it didn’t make too much noise about it, the Vietnamese fast-casual restaurant Sizzle & Crunch — which gained a loyal following in the U District in its two years of operation — recently opened up a new location in South Lake Union to serve up banh mi, rice bowls, and other popular dishes to those in the tech-heavy neighborhood. The new spot is located in the Amazon Nessie complex, right on 9th Avenue North. Most of the fan favorites, such as the signature grilled lemongrass pork, have made it over to the SLU location, with a few additions. The new menu items include a Vietnamese corn dish flavored with garlic and butter, vermicelli bowls, and house-made pork cracklings. Everything is served cafeteria style, where customers can customize their bread and bowl toppings options. Owner Paul Nguyen — who launched Sizzle & Crunch not long after he graduated from the University of Washington — tells Eater Seattle that, depending on how the business performs in SLU, he is considering expanding downtown or Capitol Hill next." - Gabe Guarente

Very nice build your own meal restaurant, fast service and friendly staff. There is some good spice and the rice is similar to Cơm Tấm. There is beef, pork belly, sunny side up eggs, and more toppings. Would recommend!

Forgot to take pictures before we started eating but all was very chipotle esque adding rice to the typical noodle dishes! All flavors were pretty good actually! Slightly on the pricier side but everything is nowadays!

I've been to the U-District location of this chain a few times, and this was my first time at the SLU place I like the concept of this fast casual type quick service restaurant. I've heard this chain called the Vietnamese Chipotle before, and I can see why as they follow a very similar ordering pattern What I got here was the half-rice half-salad bowl with pork, egg, green sauce, and a few vegetables The first thing I have to remark on here is the portions are incredible. My bowl was absolutely stuffed to the brim - practically trying to explode by the end as there wasn't enough space for the sauce on top to even breathe - it was crushed up against the lid. This easily made two full meals worth of food, which makes it a great deal Unfortunately, the main part of this meal, the pork (which I got a double portion of) was pretty disappointing. The portion was huge, but this pork was pretty dry, and had basically no flavor at all. The food would've been a lot better if this had been improved. My guess is it had been sitting in the tray for a long time, leading to the dryness However, most of the other parts of this meal were much better. The rice was perfectly cooked - very moist and maintained its shape throughout. The combination of the salad & vegetables were great; especially paired with the green sauce, which is an absolute delight I also liked the idea of an egg I could mix around with If I ever come here in the future, I'll get the tofu - as I don't think I can trust this place to serve good meat The price here is also a little expensive - around $17 for a double protein, but like I mentioned, the amount of food does make up for it Overall, it's a pretty good lunch spot that'll last you multiple meals, but I would stay away from the meat. 7.5/10

Great place to get a quick and casual Vietnamese meal. Portions were good, lots of flavor and fresh vegetables. Some pieces of meat were a little dry. Overall good experience.

Google
I recently tried the grilled chicken rice bowl with all the toppings from Sizzle and Crunch, and it was fantastic. The dish was very tasty and affordable, with great portion size that left me feeling satisfied. The grilled chicken was tender and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the fresh and crunchy vegetables. Special mention goes to the green sauce – it was delicious, creamy, and packed with flavor. It added a delightful kick to the dish and tied all the ingredients together beautifully. I could easily eat it every day! The setting is simple and comfortable, ideal for both solo diners and groups. The service was quick, making it an ideal spot for a fast yet delicious meal. They emphasize that their food is prepared daily to deliver that burst of flavor you’ve been craving, and they definitely delivered on that promise. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tasty, affordable, and satisfying meal.

This place is awesome!! 1st time in Seattle and 1st time at this place! Food was delicious! Definitely would come back here! Employees were great and friendly!

Google
We originally had some difficulties related to a previous catering order. Long story short, that order did not end up working out. However, after getting in touch with management (Mathew and Isabelle) Sizzle&Crunch went above and beyond to make it right. We took a chance with Sizzle&Crunch and put in a new catering order; they delivered. They went above and beyond in fine-tuning the details of the catering to our specifications and needs. The food was of incredibly high-quality--to the point where our guests consistently asked where the food was from. The food was hot and fresh, and the pricing was reasonable. I believe our earlier less-than-ideal experience with Sizzle&Crunch was an outlier. If you have any catering needs, give Sizzle&Crunch a shot--you won't be disappointed.

The outdoor atmosphere was pleasant, and the food quality was excellent and healthy for an incredibly affordable price!

Yelp
Great food, flavorful, great amount and my daily eat! Love the vermicelli bowls, love the topping. So yummy!

Yelp
Came to SLU for 4th of July and stopped by here to eat while waiting for the fireworks to start. Overall, I thought this place was ok. I got the grilled pork bánh mì for $9.98 Pros: super huge generous portions. Given the big increase in food prices lately, what you get here is a steal and the main reason why I would come back. I noticed big portions in my sandwich and also others' orders. Grilled pork had good flavor and I liked the grilled corn and scallion oil (mỡ hành). Cons: I felt the bread was either old or previously heated to be crispy and then left to cool for a long time so it was a little dry. They ask to put the sauce on last but I think they should put it on first because after all the meat and veggies they give, there's practically no room for sauce. I thought they should've pickled the carrots longer or with more sugar. I wonder about the cleanliness because the bathroom could use some work. Thought it was weird they store containers and food wrappers a mere feet from the toilet (though everything looked wrapped/in boxes). Neutral: Service was not outstanding but got the job done Next time I would like to try the rice bowl

Yelp
Vietnamese chipotle! I ordered the grilled chicken bowl with all the toppings except jalapeños. The bowl was yummy and had good value. The green sauce was creamy and flavorful. This is a quick lunch/dinner spot and I'd come back to try their grilled pork or beef next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered 2 beef brisket bahn mi sandwiches and the grilled chicken rice bowl. The bread was a little rough and messy to eat, but the brisket was DELICIOUS! The chicken rice bowl was good too, but I'd highly recommend the beef brisket bahn mi.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Just amazing, lots of food and great service too. If you're looking for a nice cozy spot to grab lunch this is the place :)

Yelp
This place is legit fire. Straight up I love their pork bowl and their steak salad and that green house sauce is so good. Also has great veggie options as well and would honestly order again from here.
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
The menu itself has a good variety of things to choose from. We ordered the grilled pork and a beef banh mi. They were full of several ingredients and overall the flavor was good. For me, the bread didn't have the crunch I wanted and several of their toppings are not traditional for a banh mi. Well priced and filling food though.

Yelp
Want a healthy, delicious and hot meal that will brighten your day? Don't want to leave the comfort of your home? Order from this spot! This place has mastered their take out game -- we have ordered the chicken bowl at least 4 times now as delivery and every time, this place absolutely slaps. The chicken has this deliciously smoky flavor, rice is nice and bouncy, veggies are fresh and crunchy, and whatever aioli they put on top is like crack. Add the extra egg -- it's worth it! The value you get is amazing too -- you COULD share a bowl but you won't want to after the first bite.

Yelp
I love Sizzle&Crunch - they always load up your plate / bowl and the green sauce is so so delicious. I always try to stop by for lunch or a quick dinner if I'm in a rush. Staff are super friendly and the line moves fast!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a lovely and yummy spot! I had heard so many great things about this spot and finally got the chance to try it for lunch. We arrived around 11:40 and there was a decent sized line, but this actually ended up being a great time since by the time we finished ordering the line was extremely long. They do move fast here though, since it's more of a chipotle style ordering system. I got the house pork place which came with pork belly and grilled pork on top of broken rice, and a side of cucumber, tomato, and veggie salad. The portions are not only massive that it lasts more than one meal, but the food itself is absolutely delicious! Both types of pork were so flavorful and well seasoned, and the broken rice was fantastic and fragrant. I also loved the green dressing they give with the salad which tastes super fresh and tangy. For a lunch spot, this is fantastic and conveniently located. I would totally be back more often if I had the opportunity. They're also open super late, so I may have to run here for some late night Vietnamese food cravings at some point :)

Yelp
Stick to the rice or noodle bowls, the bread here is way too hit or miss. Sometimes the rolls used for the bahn mi is fresh and delicious, other times it's stale and dry. The fillings are always good. The rice bowls have never let me down.
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and got the BB Special Banh Mi, and it was definitely special. They pile it high with pork belly and grilled pork, along with a fried egg. You can choose what toppings and I opted for the classic jalapeño, pickled carrot, and cucumber topping. The sandwich was huge and the price was really affordable ($11) for something that could easily last you one and a half to two meals. The meat was also super juicy and flavorful, and the banh mi bread wasn't too dry or too crispy, which is a common issue with other banh mi shops. It definitely does get messy though, so I'd grab some extra napkins :)
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
Build-your-own Vietnamese bowl type spot. Banh mih and rice plates as options too. Build my own bowl ($13ish) with grilled pork and chicken on a vermicelli and salad base. It was awesome :) Loved the variety of sauces (get the jalapeño aioli yum!) Super kind staff, awesome outdoor dog friendly patio too.

Yelp
Holy cow, I LOVE Sizzle&Crunch. It's located in a very walkable area in SLU right between some Amazon buildings, with indoor and outdoor seating. I got the Steak Vermicelli Bowl with an egg and it was amazing. I really recommend getting the soy sauce and the fish sauce because those two flavor the vermicelli so well. Steak is tender, egg is perfectly gooey. This is my fav meal in the SLU area and the price is really good! I usually order on Uber Eats then pick up since they have some deals on there that they don't have in store.

Yelp
I work about two blocks away from this location and I'm so glad I do because my first several times here have been great, and I will definitely continue to frequent Sizzle@Crunch! A unique (to me) build your own banh mi (along with other foods) place, you go in, place your order, and let them know what toppings you'd like. I usually just get everything on it. The people working have always been nice, and seem very generous with portions! Especially since every time I've gone it's been in off-lunch times (around 2 pm) so there's usually no rush at all. I really enjoy the quality of the ingredients, the pork is really flavorful. I also was drawn to get a drink last time I was there. I was definitely quite big, but it tasted great! They also let you customize sweetness which is always a nice touch. The restaurant has quite a bit of seating, and a really nice outdoor seated area that's under a covered roof. So overall a pleasant place to eat regardless of the weather. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Moshi M.

Yelp
Ambience. C Service. B Food. A Price. A Found off main university side street. I call it a hole in the wall. Limited seating. Boxes store throughout store. Service is attentive when first opening of the day. Started making my bowl after putting order via app. I like the flavors in the noodle bowl! Lots of Tender bits of pork. I'm a fan of the food.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
This place really packs on the protein so come hungry! Service was the most I could expect from a bunch of college students. My partner and I sat outside on a nice afternoon and the tables were fairly clean. Really nice decorations and the banh mi special was out of this world but definitely not traditionally Vietnamese. I would come back!
google avatar

Samriddhi S.

Yelp
I'm a vegetarian and I had the tofu rice salad bowl. Loved that the food since tofu tasted well, overall healthy and the spicy cilantro sauce is a game changer! Love the taste. The ambience is decent, you find a coffee shop like quietness here and since they have some meat cooking there's a lot of smoke but no bad smell. Service is pretty quick too or we didn't go during rush hours.
google avatar

Nikita S.

Yelp
*Review based on to go* I got chicken, rice bowl with carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, jalapeños, and egg. Personally, I felt the rice and veggies were not fresh and lacked flavors The service was super slow as well and staff seemed very overwhelmed with 4 people in line
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
Only came here because I ordered uber eats pickup to the wrong location and couldn't cancel in time. Despite my foul mood after my very time consuming journey from UW, I must say the interior is very nice and the workers were so kind. Turned my unfortunate experience into a peaceful adventure.
google avatar

N K.

Yelp
Excellent quality sandwiches and drinks. I ordered catering for a work meeting and now I've been craving another meal from them.
google avatar

Alexandria W.

Yelp
Great lunch spot in South Lake Union! It gets pretty busy on weekdays during the lunch hour, but the like moves pretty fast and the food is definitely worth it. My go to is some variation of a grilled chicken bowl - the portions are pretty generous and the food and topping are always super tasty! If you are indecisive about what protein to choose you can do half and half (I sometimes do half chicken half tofu)
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
A very popular spot because of the location near all of the businesses. I came in for lunch and there was quite a long line but it moves really fast! The actual restaurant has seating and tables, but looks more like a fast casual takeout spot - mainly for convenience of all of the working professionals in the area. I got the banh mi sandwich which I customized with half pork and half beef. It was just ok. The bread was dry and hard and the meat wasn't too moist or flavorful. When I order banh mis, I usually love the taste of the pate and pickled veggies but it seems like this one had mayo and the veggies only had a slight flavor. I don't think I would come out of my way to get food from here again.
google avatar

Kat F.

Yelp
Soooo good! Getting a rice bowl with double meat is the way to go. Please open a location on the east side of the lake!!
google avatar

Ngoc R.

Yelp
We typically get the plates which you can never go wrong with the chicken and rice option. I decided to try the Banh mi knowing that it was probably not going to be authentic, and it wasn't bad. I'm not sure I would get it again other than the fact that the green sauce made it taste better. I'll stick to the rice plate in the future, and go somewhere else for a Vietnamese sandwich. My most recent visit we ordered GrubHub for pick up, and they gave us the wrong order so we had to return. When they did give us our order. They forgot our add additional egg on top... So service definitely needs to improve. Other than that this place is a generally a good spot to go to.
google avatar

Brandon J.

Yelp
Sizzle & Crunch is a great place to get Vietnamese flavours to-go for lunch. The ingredients are super fresh with enough options to customize your banh-mi or bowl dozens of different ways. Staff is friendly and the layout of the store is built with speed in mind. You and your lunch group can be back with plenty of time before that WBR.
google avatar

Kayla W.

Yelp
Do not eat here, I repeat DO NOT EAT HERE! My daughter and I ordered food and within hours we both had SEVERE food poisoning. I should've read the reviews before I came here, don't waste your money on this place, unless you want to be throwing up for hours! The staff was rude too.
google avatar

Latifa S.

Yelp
All the crunch!! I've been to their Ballard location but this one's so much more fun. It's actually made to order in front of you in a sandwich line. I like that I get to pick and choose all kinds of veggies, toppings, meat/ sauces. Get the corn! They offer it as a topping and it's delicious! I tried their steak banhmi and grilled chicken bowl, Steak banh mi: delicious! Crunchy. Not sure if they offer toasted baguette option but If they do, it'll be the best thing ever. Grilled chicken vermicelli bowl: it's loaded! I can barely finished 1/4. Had left overs for the next day! 2 meals! The jalapeños they use are spicyyy! I love when that happens. Overall. located right in the Amazon building. Fast, bust your tables/ service with quick delicious food. The only complaint: they don't have Vietnamese ice coffee!! Which was like a crack: extra strong, they said they had a recipe but now they have a fancy machine which does all kinds of lemonade/ drinks except that one! Whoops. Patio is super cute too. Very pretty and inviting even on a hot summer day. Fun spot!
google avatar

Annie C.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I wanted to try something healthy for lunch. Decided to come here after researching about this place. I like the concept where you can build your own bowl like Chipotle except with Vietnamese food. You get to pick your base, protein, and toppings. I decided to get the chicken salad bowl and have all the fixings added included a fried egg. Omg the salad was so good! The meat is nicely marinated with lemongrass, which made it so tasty! They give you a very generous portions of meat. The cilantro green dressing made it taste so delicious! Definitely a nice quick meal especially if you're on a time crunch. This location has outdoor seatings which is nice when the weather gets warmer. Fyi this branch is currently having a weekend promo where your second entree is half off. I decided to get the pork one to-go. I will for sure come back next time to try the rice version.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
A decent banh mi, made just the way you like it. Tucked inside a small mall-type area, Sizzle & Crunch is primarily a take-out spot. There are a few tables available if you want to eat here, but it does appear that most customers order their food and eat elsewhere. Staff was friendly, made the banh mi exactly as we requested and wrapped it to go perfectly. If you're in the area and need a quick bite to eat, this is a great place to stop. Good choice of food and very conveniently located in the South Lake Union area.
google avatar

Marah H.

Yelp
Sizzle& Crunch is trendy, laid back, and the food will leave you feeling satisfied. I enjoyed the friendly staff and ease of ordering. The most challenging thing about my experience was deciding what to order as it all looked so darn good.
google avatar

Kamini S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite to go spots ever. I ALWAYS get the chicken bowl. This easily makes 2 meals, feels healthy and is so tasty. I always get condiments and put the fish sauce on top, it makes it even better. The wait is really long at lunch time at weekdays so be aware. I usually order on door dash to skip the line.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Went around 1:30pm on a Tuesday. Not too busy but then the lunch rush happened shortly after. Kinda hidden within the complex but there's signs to follow FOOD: they were out of banh mi since they had a big customer order the day I went. I got the House Pork Plate and my friend got the Vermicelli bowl with grilled pork. Both faves! The green sauce had a nice kick AMBIANCE: cute inside, just got a little warm. There's a few tables outside with warmers they put on at night with a big tv Nice little spot my friend and I ran into! Good portions and plentiful flavor
google avatar

Harshmeet S.

Yelp
Their food is nice and they even offer 50% on the second bowl if you get two on weekends. I tried the grilled chicken and rice, their sauces are nice. It tasted fresh and flavorful. Their billing is really slow and during weekdays they don't have a good way to handle online orders which slows down billing even more. This results in long wait line and the food gets cold sitting there while we wait to get to the billing counter.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Found this place here on Yelp! The staff was friendly and fast -- I ordered to-go, a bowl with Chicken and added an egg. My meal was packed and loaded which is what every person hopes for when spending a good amount on their food! The flavors were great, though there were some fatty pieces of chicken in the mix. Other than that, it was a nice quick and convenient meal to enjoy during my visit to Seattle.
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
amazing value from the banh mi sandwiches. highly recommend the pulled pork option!! will be back
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
The bah mi beef bowl here was fire! Definitely one of the best beef bowls I have had in a while!
google avatar

Mariam M.

Yelp
Best. Banh mi. EVER!!!!! I dream about going back to Seattle just for these banh mis. Obsessed with the tofu banh mi -- I get it w cucumber, peanuts, carrots, cilantro, spring onion, mayo, and LOADS of the dreamy green sauce that they have. 10/10!!
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
This place is like a Mod or Subway for Vietnamese cuisine. Pick your item and then go down the line adding your toppings, sauce, etc. really liked the concept, but the food was just ok. Banh mi was dry. Need to add the green sauce they offer. The rice bowl and vermicelli bowl were decent. Portion size was big for the price. The location was hard for me to find. It's in a courtyard of an Amazon building. You can't enter from the street. If you need quick Vietnamese take out in SLU, this place is worth a try.
google avatar

Employee E.

Yelp
Food was good. I ordered the chicken vermicelli bowl which was fresh and tasty. Next time I will remember to order the light sauce that typically comes with the dish.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Sizzle & Crunch is like a Vietnamese Chipotle. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the rice was good but I wish there was more. I went near closing so they ran out of some toppings but it was still good. The cilantro sauce tied everything together and tasted amazing.

Cynthia Q.

Yelp
I'm trying to convince myself to manage my expectations as this place is essentially vietnamese fast food, but I can't help but compare it to traditional vietnamese bun and broken rice dishes that I grew up eating, especially since its the same price. I found it absurd that I was paying $15 for this easy meal, when I would have paid the same amount to sit down at an authentic restaurant where they actually make it right. I got the broken rice bowl with pork and all the toppings. The broken rice is way too mushy. It's supposed to be an almost al dente texture. Pouring the fish sauce over the rice made it even mushier and I didn't even use that much. The pork was delicious. Corn is not a traditional topping and I regret trying it with my dish. I did opt for jalapeño and maybe the staff member hated me or something but they put a shit ton that made it extremely spicy. I also don't get why everyone loves the green aioli sauce. It's like how italians would faint at us putting ketchup on pizza. It just doesn't belong there and it's almost offensive that it's an option. When my bf went to go pay for his meal, he also wanted to pay for mine, and the rude staff yelled over at me WHATD YOU GET. I felt like her tone was unnecessary and was extremely off-putting as I'm not hard of hearing, and even if I was, she could have just waited for me to come closer. Maybe she was trying to hurry me up so she could go back to scrolling on her phone. The bathroom also gave me crusty vibes cause they store things there, including napkins. I sure love wiping my mouth with napkins that catch peoples poop particles. Yum!
google avatar

Shania G.

Yelp
Ordered my meal online at 4:24pm and the order went through and said it will be done 4:49pm. Currently standing in sizzle&crunch waiting for my order to be prepared after being confused twice for door dash pick up. Love that they're big on cleanliness and were cleaning behind the counter as I walked in but I was hoping and expecting that my food would be ready after a long day of work as soon as I walked in. Their food is always good though and it was prepared super fast as I was only standing in the restaurant for about 2 min and got called back up to pick up order.

Savannah S.

Yelp
I ordered through ubereats today. I paid for a grilled sirloin steak rice bowl. What I received is not steak. It is clearly pork, and mostly fat. I cant eat pork. This was a $34 order :( I was only able to eat the rice and veggies. It's very careless to serve someone the wrong meat. Please do better.
google avatar

Saniya S.

Yelp
was working near the area and came across this restaurant, it looks very lowkey but the food was amazing! it was my first time visiting and the people working there walked me through the whole ordering process. it's not necessarily a sit down place but there are a lot of tables outside. this is a great place to stop by at if you are working in the area! quick and cheap eats
google avatar

Theo N.

Yelp
It's like a Vietnamese bun (rice noodle) style Chipotle. Not bad, not great. I'm surprised they don't automatically give you fish sauce, you have to ask/order it. That's a little wild to me, but okay. It's a bit white-washed in terms of flavors. It is in Seattle, so what are going to expect. I think it's a spot that gets the job done for an easy meal, not much more to say.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
I was absolutely starving when I ordered to delivery so I did not see the inside of this establishment nor did I snap any pic, sorry but there is already a next time lined up in my near future. I got the chicken vermicelli bowl. I wish it came with an extra sauce so I'll remember that for my next order. It did come a bit cooled down but the drive is about 10 mins and I'm not dinging them on something like a third party service. Even coldish this was good! The meat was marinated before being grilled this tender and juicy. A bit fatty too but it wasn't chicken breast and was more like a thigh so that's to be expected. The color comes from the marinade, maybe soy sauce. It came with tons of meat! I had to eat half and come back for the other half about two hours later. I also ordered the chicken bahn which had the same honking chunks of chicken thigh and was delicious too! Lots of veg and toasty bread. Good strong bowl for delivery, always a plus for me. I can't wait to eat inside and see how it goes all freshy fresh. I'll definitely order delivery again and look forward to trying out other items on their menu.
